overpriced and bad service 4/27/2009

This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. When I arrived, the managers were too busy talking to notice that I wanted to be seated. The server took a long time to approach our table, and was not knowledgable when I asked what the different types of fish were. Way overpriced. I will never return. Pros: food was edible Cons: servers do not know what they're doing more

Beyond all my expectations!! 3/8/2009

When you are looking forward to a meal this much, there is usually something that doesn't live up to expectations- Not at Roy's! The service was incredible, our waitress was friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. The appetizers were fantastic, I loved my Philly Cheesesteak egg roll! My mahi mahi was so light that I had room left for the heavenly chocolate dessert. The prices are high, but not inappropriate for a nice restaurant. Overall, fabulous service paired with incredible food. I can't recommend Roy's highly enough! Pros: food, service Cons: bit pricey more

Exceptional Food, Service, Ambience, and Prices 2/14/2009

Having Dinner at Roy's was a rewarding experience. The ambience, service and food are outstanding! The choices of food gave my guests and I a chance to taste and explore a vast array of dishes from the Hawaiian culture. Everything was delicious! The staff was superb! This is a very comfortable and friendly fine dining experience. We will definitely return and refer others to this fine restaurant. Pros: Food Taste; Comfort; Staff Excellent; Variety on Menu; Prices Reasonable Cons: Parking more

Hawaiian fusion experience from hell!!! 1/30/2009

I cannot understand how this place has been well reviewed. My girlfriend and I went last night for the first time and were very excited. We had giftcards for 100 dollars and were especially excited that this meal would not really ""cost"" us anything. We had reviewed the website and reviews on Citysearch and everything seemed to be in place. .... So the night went as follows ... First we get there and even though we made reservations we had to wait twenty minutes for a table. We were annoyed but fine with that. The drink we ordered was ninety percent ice but ok whatever. We ordered based on recommendations of our waitress who said the sushi was great. ok. The appetizers were very average for the price but edible. Then we get our sushi. The first bite was like a burning mouthful of salt. Maybe I have developed a higher standard since Kisso is my sushi staple but this was inedible. We tell the waitress that we could not eat this roll and they assure us they can make it better. The second time it was not as salty but the thing we most closely related it to was v o m it. Although I thought our waitress was nice the service was not good. In the end, after our dinner and drinks the amount i had left on the giftcards came out to a strangely appropriate $6.66. Lucifer's little way of letting us know he had a hand in making our sushi and creating our experience. Go to Kisso. Cons: read my review more

good service, great food, though a bit on the slow side but overall quality met the expectation 1/25/2009

I love the Edamame appetizer, lobster potsticker, and desserts. My butterfish was a bit too salty but I think it's because I generally eat very light. The server was professional. The restaurant was beautiful inside and I found it a pleasant experience. It was not too noisy. From where I was sitting I could see the kitchen, which was an interesting & different experience. I will recommend people to go to this place for family party or dates. It's on the pricey side, appetizer run between $7-$11, main course are in the $20-$30 range. We have five people and ordered 4 appetizers + 5 entry + 2 dessert and the bill came to $260 after tax not include tips. Pros: fusion food- creative, new stuff you have not had before Cons: not an everyday place, a bit pricey more

Solid Center City Restaurant 1/3/2009

Excellent entree selection (though the duck and chicken dishes were not on the menu the night we went) and perfectly seasoned courses. Service was attentive and personable. Definitely recommend a specialty cocktail and the braised short rib. In response to previous review, valet is now available. Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it in the end more

Best service in Philadelphia 9/29/2008

I have eaten at every talked about place in this city and not one has matched the service staff at Roy's. It may be a bit confusing with as many as 5 different people coming to the table but it made everything go wonderfully. Our server Terry knew more about the food and swore by the Shutome dish and absolutely nailed it. The BLT Sliders that were created by the Sous Chef (who came to the table to talk to us about the food) were an amazingly pleasant surprise. The souflee was to die for. All in all, the friendliness of the entire staff is unrivaled from the host to the managers (Jeremy especially). Me and my wife splurged and spent $150 after tip for the two of us and will do it again next week. My only regret is that we waited so long to try it out. Pros: Service, level of mastery, and intimacy Cons: No valet although they informed it was temporary more

Best on Monday nights! 6/24/2008

I took my boyfriend to Roy's on 06/16/2008. We were seated right away. We decided on the lobster pot-stickers as an appetizer and for dinner he got the short ribs over broccoli and I chose the Mahi-Mahi with red skinned potatoes. The food was to die for and the service was excellent. The interior is beautiful and includes an upstairs dining area and a bar. The food was a bit pricy but I'll have to splurge again sometime soon! You won't be disappointed. Pros: The Ambience, service, and food Cons: a bit pricy but can be overlooked more

3 1/2 Stars 5/20/2008

My Girlfriend and I took a friend here for dinner on a Saturday night. Instead of bread, they serve edamame here. I thought this was a pleasant departure from the routine (besides I really like edamame.) The edamame were perfectly seasoned and had a hint of spice which was a welcome surprise. The cocktails were festive yet small for the price tag. We ordered the sun rise at Haleakala sushi roll and the filet and halapeno gyozas as appetizers. Portions were generous and the gyozas were great. The sushi roll while tasty was a bit shy on the amount of fish and was mostly rice. Pros: Great Service and good value Cons: Small cocktails more

Great Food 5/11/2008

My sister and I took our mother to Roy's for Mother's Day. The restaurant is gorgeous. The food is incredible. I do not think you can go wrong with any entree. Most of all the staff, Art the head Chef, Mabel, and Correy. The server staff is strong (particularly David) and I would highly recommend this place. The flourless chocolate cake is a must try! Roy's is a little pricey, but to me it is totally worth the experience. We had lobster potstickers as appetizers, U-10 scallops and salmon. I am not sure if this was only for Mother's Day brunch or if any of these items are offered usually. Trust me, you will love Roy's. I first experienced this restaurant in Kona, The Big Island in Hawaii- It was equally amazing! Pros: Excellent food! Great service. Beautiful restaurant. Cons: You may have to pay to park, but there is a parking garage across the street. Roy's has valet parking too. more

EXCELLENT 4/16/2008

We visited Roys 4/12/08 The service was excellent. We had the best seafood dinner ever! Get the chocolate souffle. We will be back! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Simply An Amazing Experience!!!! 3/11/2008

So I took my girlfriend to this restaurant for her birthday week and we simply LOVED the experience!!! Need I say, Seafood done at its best!!! I must also say that I was very impressed by the romantic ambience and the clever seating arrangement. Our waiter encouraged an appetizer selection that seemed to be most popular amongst Roy's patrons and ... ""GREAT"" is just simply an understatement! We too, are suggesting that you try the lobster dim sum. Never have we had such fresh, succulent, and flavorful preparations of seafood. My girlfriend entertained the shellfish combo of U-10 scallops and black tiger shrimp. She mentioned that they may have gone overboard with the sauce but she has not stopped talking about how AMAZING the scallops and shrimp were. I had the Classic Trio entree which brandished a seafood array of blackened ahi tuna (my favorite), hibachi grilled salmon, and butterfish, each of which was cooked to perfection. What I mean to say is ... BURSTING FLAVORS that are still making my mouth water!!! With that said, if you don't finish the experience off with their signature Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle then shame on you!!! Nothing more can be said than HURRY UP AND TRY FOR YOURSELF!!!! Pros: Food & Dessert, Ambience, Service, Wine & Cocktail Selections (& Tasting) Cons: Pricey (but remember you came for the experience, and it's well worth your investment) more

great place 10/6/2006

awsome place, the food was great as well as the atsomphere. Our service was wonderful and we even got a thank you note in the mail. I would highly recomend this resturaunt to others. Pros: everything was great more

My New Fave Restaurant 10/5/2006

I tried Roy's during September 2006 Restaurant Week. It was a completely great experience. The ambience is wondeful. Our service (Laura) was superb. I had the szechuan ribs as an appetizer, the chicken for entree, and the banana bombe for dessert. All delicious. I also highly recommend the prix fixe wine deal they offer. Their selections were wonderful and went perfectly with each course of the meal. Pros: ambience, attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff, dessert Cons: I can honestly think of none. more

Great Experience 3/19/2006

This restaurant is the best! We got seated immediately. The waiter was extremely helpful and made us feel very special, as it was our anniversary. The food was exceptional from appetizer to their fabulous dessert. We are looking forward to going there again. Pros: Food, Service, Desserts Cons: parking more

could have been better 1/15/2006

the food was average...i expected higher quality considering what we paid..the atmosphere was ok, too..i wasn't so amazed... more

Divine dessert! 9/21/2005

After arriving slightly later than our 830PM reservation, we were greeted courteously and promptly led to a table on the balcony. The restaurant noise was normal, but muted enough for conversation. The drinks and three courses came promptly and the service was flawless. On the whole, the food was delicious (if slightly rich), but the dessert stood out from the rest: caramel almond torte with vanilla ice cream. Perfect. Pros: Dessert, Service, Ambience more

prix fixe 8/13/2005

two of us went on a friday night with no reservations around 9:15pm. we sat in the bar room another option is at the counter and watch the chef/cooks. there is a full menu available at the bar and counter. food was excellent, we each went with the $33 fixed price menu as it offered entrees with both wanted to taste. mahi mahi was great as was the medium-rare cooked miso steak. the chocolate suffle (sp.) was to die for. cappicini is piping hot. more

Roy's 7/8/2004

It was a treat! The staff was fun and very professional. I have been to Roys with a large group and now hooked for life as regular diners. Pros: Service, Food, Decor more
