No thanks... 12/28/2011

I've been here twice now. It took me a lot to go back the 2nd time, but I thought it was fair to give it another try, but was I wrong! The second time was equally as bad as the first. The first time was with a group of friends and while the second time was similar, I also had my 3 year old with me. Both times service was slow, servers didn't know much about the menu or if items (like soup) were vegetarian, and it was way overpriced for what we got. My veg friend had basically no options. more

Absinthe Makes My Head Go-Round 4/4/2011

My husband and I dined at Preservation Kitchen this past Saturday. We live close by and like to support local Bothell restaurants. My husband has been dying to try Absinthe and PK is one of the few places that serves this in their bar. I tried the 'Obituary Cocktail' and understood the next morning why it was so aptly named as I scanned the Sunday paper for mine. Onwards....the overall atmosphere was underwhelming. The contemporary furnishings are nice but is it so hard to throw on some nice white linens? We were greeted by a server that seemed as if he was a Microsoft moonlighter- this geek had no personality. The food: Appetizers were phenomenal. The duck was fabulous. I had to have my pork loin cooked a bit more but otherwise a nice dish. Thankfully, they ended on a high note with dessert that saved this experience. The owner should hug his pastry/dessert chef and buy them a week in the Bahamas just for their ability to bake! The chocolate torte with sea salt caramel sauce was out of this world and sent me there at least for a minute. My husband had the cheesecake and had his own mini-experience. Overall we give PK a 7 out of 10 - it's worth a shot but not worth the money if they fall short. more

Rude and not accommodating 9/27/2010

Because of my celiac (no gluten) and IBD we never eat out because I feel like I'm a pain with my special requests. Eating with others is such an important social experience and everyone should have the right to a good meal together with family/friends. I emailed Preservation Kitchen that we wanted to come for my birthday, a very special treat since we never dine out, and could they accommodate me? I gave them a clear list of what foods I could and could not eat and was reassured that we would be taken care of. Well, I was served something I can't eat and when we told the owner I couldn't eat it, she accused me of being wrong and that I was the one confused about what was on my plate. She wasn't polite about it and embarrassed me in front of everyone we were with. It ruined the entire experience not to mention I left hungry. Very frustrating because asking for a simple fish and steamed veggies doesn't seem like a hard request. Not to mention the servings were very small for the high price they come at. more

Avoid unless you want to be there all night, broke & hungry 9/10/2010

Disappointing night... I had my 34th Birthday party at Preservation Kitchen last night with 8 family members & they struck out big time! 1st they gave us 20 minutes looking at the wrong menus & we all had to change our orders. Then we had to wait not only 1 hour but 1 hour and 40 minutes for the food & the portions were FAR TO SMALL for their prices, and the food was only okay. Plus they were out of chicken & we'd ordered 5 orders so half of us had to change our order AGAIN. (they told us this an hour after we ordered. Wouldn't the kitchen have figured this out sooner? We asked twice for some music because it was dead silent upstairs in the room we'd reserved for our party of 10. Then they messed up the charges on 2 of our bills & that took 30 minutes to clear up. The waiter was new, slow & horrible. Who knew it would be a disaster & we'd be there 3 hours. I was embarrassed that I'd chosen such an over-priced, overrated, SLOW, horrible serviced establishment. If I ever returned there it would only be to the bar for their drinks (which are $10 on average). Was great company though. Thanks family for coming out for the eventful night! Also I asked for the Owner & they never came out of the Kitchen, only the Hostess dealt with us (who was the Night Manager. HORRIBLE PLACE, HORRIBLE SERVICE, SLOW, OVERPRICED, LACKS ATMOSPHERE!!!!! more

local, sustainable, on its way up 5/19/2010

Went to Preservation Kitchen in Bothell for the first time the other day. I called ahead and checked the website to check prices, because the setting is so high end I was afraid the prices would be. Not so! : ) Although the menu is semi-swanky, the prices were comparable to any average restaurant. My main reason for wanting to go there is their intent to use only locally grown, sutainable ingredients. I was unhappy to learn that they do use caged eggs, but said they could use cage free on request. Hopefully they will make this standard. My over easy eggs were a little underdone, and the bacon was not crisp (although it was the delicious thick cut). Told them I would love to see some shredded hashbrowns offered in addition to the softer home fries. Their sourdough was not sour either (tho bakery fresh). Pros: Amazingly low prices for such high end setting Cons: breakfast chef needs more experience more

Food and service outstanding 12/4/2009

First, the good. We have been in numerous times since the beginning. We have found it odd that in just one year of being open, we have been greeted by three men who have informed us that they are the chef. Unless there is 9 of them, something tells me this place turns over more employees than a nursing home does patients. Now I have worked in the restaurant business for 15+, my sister is a lifer also, and my fhusband's whole family runs a little greek place in the Village, so I have reputable sources that tell me that this kind of thing isn't necessarily normal. Either way, I don't really mind, because for one, the food has always been spot on, but most importantly (and selfishly) the food recently has been out of this world amazing. First of all, the new chef has a set.....I don't think I haven seen a fondue on a menu since the 70s (I had mentioned that to the chef, and he told me he wasn't even alive in the 70s) hilarious, and even if it's true, this guy gets mad props because if that's true, hes cooking way beyond his years. I'm kinda hoping it was true, it adds to the fact that he is a cutie, and to think that he's not even 30 makes me love it even more. Ok, back on track Lillian... Pros: I would steal their chef in a heartbeat Cons: The chef said no :o) more

Place is great, if you know what it is 11/17/2009

Food is great, but if you love the feeling of being hounded by your server because she has nothing else to do or NO other tables to tend to, then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, this place doesn't seem to show up on many people's radars, and it's obvious why. When you drive by it, you have no idea what IT is. It looks like a house on a hill, not a restaurant. And am I the only one who thinks that the name Preservation Kitchen sounds like the name of a soup kitchen? I had written a review about how great the restaurant is, but now I feel like it's such a shame that people don't know where to go in Bothell for really really good food because between the fruit market and the auto body shop, it looks like a vacant lot. This is a comment for BZP who went to great length to slander this restaurant. I am a local business owner of 8 yrs. I personally have done business with this company several times; they are and have been highly respected and trusted in the Bothell community for years! They are professional, kind and caring in addition to having wonderful food. Unlike many of the other restaurants in Bothell. I find it despicable that BZP would spend so much time writing such a nasty review rather than talking directly to the restaurant manager. Had they of taken that route, I am certain management would have refunded their money and probably given them a FREE dinner in the future. This is the difference at this restaurant. Who ever reads the review captioned Pick another by BZP please don't be swayed . This restaurant will bend over backwards to create a memorable evening or talk directly to the Owner, Susan. Pros: classic,beautiful, caring, quality,professional & great food Cons: nothing! more

What a disappointment. I don't know what happened to this place. We'd visited the Preservation Kitchen many times in the past and brought out of town guests here last night. We raved about the boar and other unique menu items...the olives, gnocchi, deserts. Pros: Nice setting Cons: Many more

bits and pieces of an email to the owner 9/17/2009

so I finaly made it back to New York last night, and I still can't get over how amazing the salmon dish is. If you have not been to the Preservation Kitchen, let me tell you what you are missing. I sent an email to the restaurant thanking them for a great night but I felt obligated to share my night with Citysearch, yelp, and pretty much anyone else that will let me rave because if I lived in the area, I would probably be at this restaurant about 3 times a week....yeah the food is that good. Pros: best food around. period end of story Cons: i live in new york and the commute is no bueno :( more

Very slow service 8/13/2009

We went there for Happy Hour and while there was only one other couple in the bar we waited a very long time for our drinks to come. When mine came (a Lemon Drop) it was too sweet to drink. I noticed the bar tender with a straw tasted each drink. Ours and the couple at the other table. Cons: Very slow service. more

We came in Sunday night as a party of four and were greeted immediately (I will admit, previous times we had to stand in the bar for almost 10 minutes before the bartender or anyone notice) so thank you PK for fixing that, so far we are starting off on the right foot. Local food done right 8/7/2009

Picture this....driving up to a rustic brick building, and feeling like you are at home from the second you walk out of your car. This was my husband and my night earlier this week. We live close (Kirkland) and have always talked about coming out again, we came once or twice when they first opened. We didn't really have any other reason to stop coming other than we said we wanted to wait until all the kinks got worked out, as the service the first couple times hi t or miss, and the GM had a very pretentious way about her when we informed her that we didn't need to see the wine list. Beautiful restaurant, huge disappointment 8/1/2009

We had really high hopes for this restaurant. We had checked out their website and thought it was the type of place we would love. We went on a Saturday night around 6 p.m. and the place was dead. There was nobody in the dining room at all, the bar was empty when we arrived (a table of 4 showed up later) and the patio had a few tables seated. There were several employees just hanging around which gets uncomfortable when you are the only customers in the section. I ended up feeling out of place after awhile. Pros: Lovely setting, beautiful restaurant, free parking Cons: Inconsistent service, food not up to par, no atmosphere more

Don't Be had! 6/22/2009

Owners are rude arrogant and incompitant, no wonder the restaurant is dead everytime we go in. The last time will be our last time. Not even great food can cover this place up. The parking is a joke, the bathrooms haven't been updated in what looks like about 20 years. The restaurant itself smells like old people, and having to ask for water is embarassing. We won't be back, what happened to customer service? Do people really think we don't notice more

Great food, good prices 4/26/2009

I tried the weekend brunch, and it was incredibly tasty. The food was top notch, even compared to the fancy places in Seattle, which was fantastic because it's so hard to find a good place for breakfast, especially on the Bothell/Eastside area. The prices were great, too. Service was good, and it's in a cute little location. It's really great to go to a good local restaurant, that's not a part of a big chain. I'd totally recommend it. We'll be going back for dinner soon. Pros: tasty food, reasonable prices more

Be wined and dined in Bothell! 3/11/2009

My husband and I have traveled alot in our lifetime and have been lucky enough to eat in some of the best restaurants the US has to offer from NY to New Orleans. We are truly spoiled in the NW by our local produce. fresh seafood and grass fed meats as well as the excellent and creative breweries and wineries! Preservation Kitchen showcases all of these attributes very well! Pros: Pretty much everything! Cons: I miss the original Goat Cheese Fritters and Fried Apple Pie for dessert! more

Awful 3/7/2009

I am completely dumbfounded at how truly tasteless the food was at Preservation Kitchen. The place is charming, our waitress was delightful (though not a ""professional"" that you would normally expect in a 4 star establishment), and our cocktails and salad (the crispy coppa and grilled romaine) were all good....which made the dinner that much more disappointing. I stayed on the light side with the Pulled Pork Sliders and the soup du jour (creamy asparagus). The sliders were greasy and without any flavor...I mean NO flavor...not in the lime coleslaw or the pork. My friend's Seared Chicken was even less flavorful (imagine a vat of chicken, potatoes, and green beans boiling in plain water all day and then scooped into a bowl for you). My cream of asparagus soup had separated due to the slick of truffle oil across it...mind you the truffle oil was quite odorific and kind of permeated everything else in front of me. Never in my life have I ever had to tell a server that the food was not edible much less send everything back (except the salads...they were delightful). Not willing to try anything else, we ventured onto dessert. Oops. I had the cheesecake which was flavorless, good texture though, and had a generous dollop of sour goat cheese on top. I mistakenly read it to be Creme Fraiche not Chevre. My bad. Now I've read some other reviews and I believe this place may have been good at first, but the waitress indicated that it was an all new crew in the kitchen. Perhaps it's time to find a new crew and bring back a little of the salt you apparently got rid of in December. I will say that our waitress handled our displeasure graciously and had the manager or owner remove the items from our bill and give us a nice gift certificate to come back with, however, I felt for the poor waitress and felt that a manager should have taken over at some point. I won't go back and I strongly recommend against dining there. Wait til it changes hands. Pros: ambience, free valet, full bar and extensive wine list Cons: tasteless food more
