I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2007 -- I interviewed several surgeons, but I was completely wowed by Dr. Funk (she was at Cedars then). I went with her for my surgery and it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. While my team of doctors was great (yes, you get a whole team with B.C.; surgeon, radiologist and oncologist), Dr. Funk works at a level I have rarely encountered before. While my other friends who have had breast cancer (and it's a sad commentary on life today that I have several friends who have also had B.C.) had various problems post-surgery, I sailed through it and I attribute that to Dr. Funk's skill and her pursuit of the newest and most patient-friendly technologies. Not only is she a great doctor, she is the kindest, most caring surgeon you can possibly imagine. Often, the problem with going with "the best" is that you, as a patient, become just one of the mass of people being herded through the office of the in-demand doctor. That does NOT happen with Dr. Funk. She spends as much time as you need, she focuses on your concerns, and she remembers EVERYTHING about your case, no matter how much time has passed.
