Best

One of the best restaurants in Philly! A must try along with any Jose Garces restaurant.

Worst

This place just didn't do it for me. The meats and cheeses were good, and paired well with their acoutrements, but some of their prepared foods were not good. The spicy potatoes...

MAKE RESERVATIONS NOW 11/6/2007

This place is amazing. The cocktails are incredible. The menu is so different, it's kind of fun deciding what you want. Get the chef's tasting menu. It's the way to go. The mojitos are the best in this city. There is not one thing bad, that I have to say, about this establishment. Pros: Uniqueness, cocktails, flavor of dishes, ambiance more

So much to choose from! 10/2/2007

The atmosphere of this place is reason enough to walk in. Wine list is great-a lot of good Riojas to choose from. I was only there for a quick bite and so did not have the pleasure in sampling a lot of the menu but everything coming out of that kitchen looked delicious. Definitely try the manchego cheese and get one of the flatbreads and dip. But make sure you make a res-I was there on Mon night and it was packed but I was able to snag a stool at the bar. more

One of the Best in Philly 9/25/2007

Went here for Restaurant Week and we could not have been happier with our decision. Amada is truly one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. All 8 dishes that we tried were delicious, and there are so many options to choose from that you could come back several times and never order the same thing twice. The Spanish Octopus (you'd never know it was octopus) and the Shrimp w/ Chorizo & Garbanzo Flatbread were both amazing. The Blush Sangria was also very good, with peach, ginger and mint accents. The only downsides were that the tables are very close together and that it got very noisy and difficult to hear the people you're with. I most definitely will go back in the future. Pros: Every dish was delicious, enormous menu selection Cons: noisy, tables close together more

Perfect for anniversaries! 6/19/2007

I was suprised with a wonderful dinner at Amada. The hosts were very friendly and promptly took us to our seat. The ambience is warm and romantic. Our waiter was extremely attentive (but not to the point of being annoying) and knowledgable of the menu. For someone who loves trying different flavors and tapas, the menu was delightful. My other half, being from Texas and not used to small plates, was a bit dubious but I assured him he would enjoy it. Tapas is meant to be enjoyed slowly over fabulous conversation and drinks. My partner loved it and kept saying how suprised he was that he was full. Being from Europe myself, I have to say, it was a joy to find a place to eat that reminded me of home. We had about 5 plates, 2 glasses of Brut and 2 beers, which came to about $120, a bit expensive but for a perfect evening on a special occasion, it was wonderful. They also do a $12.50 lunch menu, i haven't tried it yet but i'm sure it will be great when i do. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: price more

Waitstaff rude-Food and drinks were ok 6/16/2007

We had a party of two on a busy friday night. The host and waitress want you to feel honor to be at such a place. Waitress that we had should have worked at a Fridays. Drinks were $10-12 for just ok cocktail. I had the lemon rosemary martini and it tasted more like cough syrup than a refreshing drink. We had an assortment of tapas ranged from $10-$15. You will definitely need to spend about $75 per person if you get at least 3 tapas per person and 2 drinks. I would say the experience was nice but wouldn't spend my money there again. There are many great restaurants in Philly not aimed at tourists. Pros: proximity to everything in Old City Cons: loud, tables crowed, boring tapas more

The best lite fare by far! 6/16/2007

It has been a long time since I have been to such an excellent restaurant. My friend just had a party there last night and I expected that one or two of the dishes would fall flat. Amada served up tapas course after tapas course of PERFECT food. Nothing was over cooked, everything was seasoned to perfection, and I had the hardest time picking out my favorite dish. If you want to have a good meal, this is the place to go. Pros: absolutely everything more

Yum 5/4/2007

Amada has the perfect romantic atmosphere, and delicious food to delight the palat. My intitial impression of pretention quickly resolved with the friendly staff that greeted us. Our waiter was extremely nice, attentive, and very knowledgable in making reccommendations. I took my bf there on his bday, and as picky eaters as we are, both he and I loved it! In addition, our seats were comfie, the lighting was romantic, the music was really good, and the food was excellent. Our final didn't hurt too badly either, because although the size of appetizers, it was all filling, and therefore we were careful not to order in excess. I definitely recommend this as a meeting place for friends, or for a romantic dinner. Good dinner treat & Classy. Pros: everything. Cons: nothing. more

Best restaurant in town 4/25/2007

I have been to pretty much every restaurant in town, and to me Amada is the best. I loooove Amada. Athmosphere, service and food are all outstanding (even though the food can be a little too rich at times). The tasting menu with the wine pairing is a great experience if you've never been there. Pros: Service, Food Cons: A little too crowded @ times more

Best Tapas Place in Philly 3/4/2007

We decided to try Amada recently as it is close by and when we strolled in, we were pleasantly surprised. I had no idea how large the restaurant was and stylish with the various rooms (my favorite is the back bar area), and it certainly beats out other tapas places across the city. The staff was knowledgable, professional and seem to enjoy working there and were very accomodating, given we had no reservation and they were packed on a Sunday night. All the food from the meats, to the cheeses (truffle dip and garlic du leche were excellent) to the vegetarian options (white truffled asparagus) and homemade desserts, were delicious. The wine list had so many amazing Spanish and Southern American choices which the staff was on the mark in selecting and recommending to suit our tastes. Great place for a date, a girl's night out or a business meeting and conveniently located. more

Finally, something different and great for Philly! 2/24/2007

This is what Philly needed- a great restaurant, offering different types of foods and plates. WOW, I loved it here! And although it is tapas style, these plates are fairly large (4-5 tapas are enough to feed 2 ppl.) and all the different dishes...AMAZING. This is what great cuisine is all about, a definite must-see! Pros: Great food, entertainment, great service more

Small plates, big flavors 2/15/2007

Amada is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in the city. The small plates pack huge flavors and there is something for everyone on the menu. Great service with every visit and I find a new favorite each time! The servers are well versed with menu and wine offerings, so ask for their opinion. When you make your reservation (highly suggested), ask for the chef's table and watch the dishes being made. Pros: food, service more

Best restaurant experience in Philadelphia 1/19/2007

Amada is absolutely the best restaurant in Philly. It is one of the only places that lives up to the hype & is truly on the same level with top restaurants in New York. The decor is one of the best I have seen in Philly - refined & chic but not over-the-top like some (ahem Starr) restaurants. Most importantly, the food is absolutely divine. When I go, I usually just get a small plate and a signature drink as a treat because it's so $. However, when I ate a full course meal with friends, it was literally the best culinary experience of my life. If I could afford it I would go all the time. Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: parking, pricey more

Awesome all around 11/15/2006

Fantasic food, love the small plates, some might think with small plates, you won't get full, but everytime I leave there after dinner, I'm stuffed! Awesome speciality drinks. Chocolate 5 Ways--best dessert ever, Chocolate mousse, Chocolate ice cream, white chocolate milk, chocolate truffle, Chocolate cake! Pros: Ambience, Service, Food, Location Cons: Parking more

Tapas... the real deal 10/31/2006

After trying many tapas-like restaurants in Philly, Amada gets it right. The sangria is outstanding and I have yet to try something on the menu that I did not like. As far as a date spot, it is number one in my book for being something new and exciting to try in the area. On a Friday and Saturday it can get extremely crowded and noisy with the live music, so I'd recommend Amada as a bar for those nights and a romantic dinner out during the week. For those not familiar with true tapas, the wait staff do an excellent job explaining and recommending. If only the tapas were free with your drinks like in Spain. more

Fabulous Spanish cuisine 10/6/2006

This is a great restaurant. I adore the drinks and the variety of their cuisine. The Paella is amazing and the service is first class. The place is lovely and always serves the best food. Pros: Paella, Fish and especially the chicken valenciana more

Fantastic taste experience 10/5/2006

Food was wonderful. I love trying new things and this was a great way to sample everything. Love the atmosphere - very New York. Garlic shrimp was awesome, serrano ham is not to be missed. Tho bring a LOT of money, because it really adds up, especially if you have a large group and go crazy ordering. It came to $80/pp and I wasn't even drinking b/c I was pregnant. Would've been even more had I been able to. But for a unique experience in a way cool setting, this is the way to go. Oh and b/c of all the food and the fact they they bring it out bit by bit - you're there for a while. So at least you get a "night" out of it. Pros: Fantastic food, cool NYC loungey atmosphere Cons: Holy god was it expensive! more

The food is great 7/30/2006

Go and try this if you take a trip (as I did) to Philly. The food was just excellent and the service matched the quality of the food. Pros: Tapas more

Tapas, Eclectic, Spanish, for those who like surprises 7/10/2006

My boyfriend and I were here two weeks ago and I really urge everyone to try it. It may not be authentic "spanish tapas" who knows, I wasn't fortunate enough to live in Spain. But it was delicious. It was a great experience although pricey, we ordered the chef's selection ($45 p/p), which served us about 10 different tapas courses and it was GREAT. We loved everything, it was creative and flavorful, and we shared a pitcher of Sangria. By the end of dinner we were stuffed and could not do dessert. If you are not a picky eater and will try everything once, this is a wonderful place to try. I will be back again for sure. I also have to mention that the ambience was wonderful and everyone from the hostess to our server to the food runners were awesome. It did cost us around $160 including tip so know that it will be expensive. Pros: Service, Ambience Cons: neighbors may be too close depending on where more

Best tapas in town...but only good in reality. 6/29/2006

Philadelphia's tapas scene is admittedly lacking. Amada, while very good for the area, may disappoint those more familiar with tapas having had it elsewhere. Very good are the charcuterie smoked meats as well as the spicy potatoes, which are like crispy french fries drizzled with a spicy sauce. Small, tasty ham croquettes are served atop a very tasty sauce and are a good choice. The spanish tortilla with mustard is so-so, and the grilled squid and calamari both taste (not surprisingly) indistinguishable. Well, the calamari was nicely crisped but both could use a little more flavor. Skip the grilled mushrooms, as they were overpriced and a bit sour tasting. The desserts feature a fair trio of chocolates and a better dessert that is part flan part creme brulee. The service was fabulous and knowledgeable, the decor was fine, but the food lagged a bit behind. It's also rather expensive for the amount of food you get as other posters have noted. As I said, good but not great if you've had great tapas in the past. more

The Best Tapas in the world, but very expensive! 6/27/2006

If you love tapas and creative cuisine, you will love Amada. This place is a playground for your senses, and trust me, your stomach will thank you. Our table of four, ordered four $65 tasting menus, so the waiter brought about 20 different dishes for us to share. The food was phenomenal, authentic, creative and worth every penny. The wine list was extensive so we ordered 2 bottles and with 4 tapas plus desert, our bill was $650. I guess it is easy to get carried away at Amada, so skip the desert, it is not really worth it. It lacks some ambiance, but you really don't go there for the decor. The spectacular food is what makes Amada the restaurant that it is. Pros: Fantastic Food Cons: Expensive, unattractive decor more

  • In Short
Minimalist decor, an open kitchen, and groovy music all factor into the great energy that permeates the entire establishment. Diners would be remiss not to try the hand-sliced selection of cured meats, accompanied by caper-berries, cornichons and mustard; only to be outdone by the creamy cheese choices paired with balsamic strawberries and garlic dulce de leche (a delectable, sweet, garlic caramel).
