Yoga with Intention 3/14/2005

Surely we go to yoga to promote peace within ourselves and others as well as to reap the many physical and emotional benefits that come so perfectly provided in the practice. If you are searching for a supportive, community oriented place to find peace and intention, this is the place. Liberation greets you at the door; find support here to be communal or private. The beauty of the atmosphere makes it a retreat in the middle of Los Angeles. Liberation is yoga. Yoga is Liberation. more

Beautiful studio - beautiful people 2/13/2005

A beautiful studio owned by the passionate and dedicated Gary McCleary and Christine Burke. Excellent instructors, a variety of classes, and a warm ambiance create an environment that is most inviting. Captures the true essence of what yoga is/should be - a true sanctuary of peace and joy to retreat from the madness that is Los Angeles. Pros: Beautiful setting, Friendly staff, Excellent Classes more

my favorite yoga studio ever! 2/12/2005

liberation yoga has so much to offer... from the beautiful studio space and garden practice space to the generosity and warmth of every teacher i've met. christine burke and gary mccleery have outdone themselves with this genuine contribution to the yoga 'scene' in los angeles. just a pure, open atmosphere that encourages a sense of peace, discovery and healing. i love liberation yoga! Pros: great pricing, cool merchandise, alison crowley! more

Best kept secret 2/12/2005

Liberation Yoga is a very hospitable yoga studio. The owners (Christine & Gary) have imbued Liberation with their loving energy and great taste. They are very down to earth and consequently treat each student and teacher equally. The option to practice in the womb like indoor studio or the outdoor garden makes the space unique. Plus they offer the best tea, so it is a great post-yoga bonus! more

My tranquil ""other world"" 2/12/2005

After getting tired of the overcrowded classes and feeling like just another number at the studio where I used to practice, I decided to give Liberation Yoga a try. I'm sooo glad that I did. The studio is much more intimate. The teachers, the owners and whoever is at the sign-in know who I am and make me feel welcome the moment I enter the studio. Most importantly, I feel like a human being again at my yoga studio and not just another number herded into the class. My last yoga studio was starting to feel too much like my drive home from work on the 101. Liberation Yoga, however, is like a tranquil ""other world"" that frees me from the hectic momentum of the rest of my life. Pros: Intimate, Tranquil, Beautiful space more

Gem in the Heart of the City 2/11/2005

Just when you thought that yoga studios were becoming the new Starbucks. This wonderful yoga center is the real thing. One of the two incredibly nice owners is herself a devoted experienced yogi and a qualified popular yoga teacher - and this is rare in the dime-a-dozen world of yoga studios in LA. Everything about this place serves the greater purpose of promoting joy and compassion, and best of all in a very lighthearted and often witty way. I may be biased as I am myself a yoga teacher, but I think I'm qualified to speak here: the instuctors at Liberation Yoga were hand picked from the likes of The Iyengar Yoga Institute of LA and Center for Yoga and are all excellent instructors. Pros: parking in rear, beautiful rooms, great boutique more

Why I love Liberation 2/11/2005

This is one of the best studios in town. The space is beautiful, the garden is a great place to practice & the boutique is nice. It feels like a family not a business. more

We've found a yoga ""home 2/11/2005

When trying to get my husband started in yoga, I knew I had to find a studio with the right ""vibe."" Not intimidating, not snobby, but warm, fun and spirited. We found the perfect place at Liberation Yoga. The studio is beautiful - the classes are varied and fun. What's really great is the community feel of the place - from the teachers to the students, it feels like a place you can go and hang out, have a cup of tea, chat and practice yoga among friends. Its a special place. And the boutique! Lots of great stuff for great prices. we recommend it to all our yoga buddies! Pros: atmosphere, quality yoga classes, friendly people more

Liberation rules 2/11/2005

Christine & Gary are the owners and they make everyone feel comfortable & welcome. It's a very friendly scene with small classes and consistently high-quality teachers. Sunday night candlelight yoga is a personal favorite. more

BEST YOGA EVER 2/11/2005

liberation yoga is no-holds-barred, acoss-the-board, hands-down the best yoga place there is! a mx of styles, of teachers, and times; a well-stocked cute-as-can-be boutique with gifts (for others or self!) of a spiritural and sensual nature; fountains and candles and music; ever-changing art on the walls by people who practice there; a garden studio -- with a tortoise! Pros: sense of connnection; physical and spiritual nature of classes; atmosphere of studios, attitude, inexpensive more

Amazing ambience! 2/11/2005

Liberation Yoga has an amazing ambience of peace, tranquility, relaxation and warmth. You notice it as soon as you enter the space. The owners, Christine and Gary, are extremely nice and have created a very open and welcoming atmosphere. Plus, they have a good variety of classes and teachers to suit all my yoga moods, from Flow classes for those times when I want to ""sweat out"" a rough day at the office to gentle yoga for those times when I want to ease my way through a calming practice. They also carry some really unique and one of a kind items in the boutique from local designers. Pros: Ambience, variety, Christine (she's a wonderful human being), Variety, Affordable more

Like Coming Home 2/10/2005

To be able to experience the warm, welcoming, highly gifted teaching capabilities of the teachers at this studio is like ""coming home"". From the ""natural"" surroundings in the garden area to the warm, dark-wooded of the inner room, I find myself simultaneously invigorated and relaxed. more

Wonderful kids yoga class! 2/10/2005

""Liberation Yoga is a great place to do yoga. Christine is a fantastic teacher."" As written by my 8 year old! My daughters have been taking yoga from Christine for three years, and they absolutely adore her (as do I!). Christine is wonderful with children. She creates a playful and inspirational environment for them to develop strength, balance and flexibility while learning about the physical and philosophical aspects of yoga. She is fun, creative, gentle and intelligent in her approach to teaching the kids class. I couldn't have imagined a better teacher to introduce my daughters to yoga. more

Real Yoga 2/10/2005

Liberation Yoga is a place for a an authentic and unpretentious experience of yoga. In a city where yoga spots are as common as a coffes shops (well, almost!), it is a relief to find a place that offers excellent classes in a calm and supportive atmosphere. Liberation Yoga not only teaches yoga; they practice it in all aspects of their business, teaching, and relations with students. Hooray for that! more

A Place Called Serenity 2/10/2005

If you're looking for a an oasis from the bustling big city, find your way over to Liberation Yoga. They have a great instructor line up (lots of depth and variety), a beautiful asana room and an outdoor asana garden, a friendly staff (mostly lovely and charming women), and what appears to be the beginnings of an interesting yoga-book, etc. library. The outdoor patio is a great place to spend a calming half-hour or hour after a stimulating yoga workout. I found a lot of serenity at this place and would recommend it to anyone seeking the same. more

The best yoga in l.a.! 2/10/2005

over the last couple of years, liberation yoga has only gotten better -- which is amazing, since it was great from the moment christine and gary took it over! liberation is more than just a yoga studio -- it's a warm, loving, welcoming community. the teachers are all exceptional and have their own individual styles -- but somehow, they mesh perfectly. maybe it's because they all live and belive what they're doing -- and aren't practicing or teaching yoga because it's the ""in"" or ""trendy"" thing to do. if you're looking for a spiritual practice -- you'll get it. if you're looking for a great work-out practice -- you'll get it. somehow, liberation manages to include it all. i can't imagine my life without liberation! (and did i mention the great parties? whoo hoo!) Pros: great teachers, great atmosphere, friendly, welcoming, great facilities, comfortable atmospher more

student 2/10/2005

liberation is very aspiring place to be. With many choices of different styles of classes. the atmopsphere is wonderful especially doing yoga in candle light is a treat. Pros: wonderful teacher, atmosphere is nice more

Liberation Yoga is the best small studio in L.A.! 2/10/2005

Liberation Yoga is a small studio owned by husband and wife Christine and Gary, who share many years of practice and teaching. All of the instructors are uniquely different in their methods and styles of yoga so there are classes available for all levels and types of practices. This small studio has something corporate chains such as Yoga Works do not have - that is a great big heart, staff who know you by name, and a genuine welcome to everyone who is lucky enough to step through their doors where Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god, sits patiently waiting to welcome all. I have tried many studios in the L.A. area, and finally found my home at Liberation Yoga. Pros: Terrific Teachers, Terrific Schedule, Good Parking Cons: None, None, None more
