:) BEST of the best... 11/20/2006

This is not only the best yoga studio in the Los Angeles area, but one of the most beautiful spots in the city. Both the indoor and outdoor garden studios are beautiful spaces that inspire peace, tranquility, and love upon entering them. The teachers are top notch and equally challenging and encouraging for students of all levels. The wonderful owners have put their all into making this not only a yoga studio, but a true community. You'll feel welcomed on your very first visit and feel like part of the family of warm and loving yogis who flock there religiously by week two. Do yourself a favor and try out a class at Liberation... I am positive that you will LOVE it as much as I do! more

Best Yoga in Los Angeles! 11/20/2006

If you are looking for a warm and inviting yoga studio, then liberation yoga is the place for you! All levels welcome in a friendly and welcoming environment! A rare gem in such a big city. more

Wonderful vibe, great for all levels 11/16/2006

It is because of this place that I even got into yoga - specifically christine's classes. I started by just doing the various workshops they offer (they have all sorts of cool and different workshops) and slowly worked into doing their vinyasa (not sure i spelled that correctly) flow classes and am now hooked. Truly a wonderful place with a great healing energy. I can't say enough about how great this place is -- especially gary and christine. A mom-and-pop yoga studio as opposed to some chain. So if you're looking for something more in your yoga practice (mentally, physically and spiritually) then liberation is your place to go!! Pros: Great teachers, wonderful vibe/spirit/energy/, the other people who take classes there Cons: honestly? none... more

Look No Furthur - Liberation Yoga is IT 11/15/2006

I have been practicing yoga for years and have taken classes in more studios than I can count. It seems like in a city like Los Angeles - a mecca of yoga and health - that a great studio would be on every corner. not so - except for Liberation. It isn't that holier than thou pretentiousness that seems so rampant and it's not gym yoga disguised as a studio! It is the ESSENCE of community and warmth. It is real yoga - simple, true, healthy and life altering in the BEST way. The classes cater to the super novice (as well to the elderly, students with special conditions and FAMILY YOGA) all the way through to advanced flow classes that are unique and inspiring. The owners not only seem to work 24/7 but know the students personally and you always feel welcome and appreciated. So much so that Gary will make sure your car is waiting conveniently for you after class on busy nights. It seems that they truly want your experience to be magical and transformative and every detail of the beautiful place is thoughtful. They bring exciting teachers for workshops, host spectacular parties and have a very cool art gallery. The boutique is really great and very reasonable. And the teachers are top notch!! Everything at Liberation is a treat. So don't let hollywood get you down - this place is as down to earth and kind as it gets. There's plenty of parking on the surrounding streets and the class prices cannot be beat. Pros: Everything is a pro Cons: Not one more

THE BEST PLACE FOR YOGA- HANDS DOWN 11/14/2006

Liberation Yoga is the best yoga studio I've been to. Pros: Instructors, Vibe, Value, Ambience, Variety Cons: parking more

Yoga as Home Away From Home 11/14/2006

Liberation Yoga is the best place to practice. Christine and Gary create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and provide a variety of teaching styles in all levels of practice. Everyone is a friend. The teachers are caring and attentive, not to mention very well-trained. You're never pushed to do more than you can, but you're always encouraged to push yourself past your own limits. Pros: Great environment, good prices, great teachers more

Liberation Yoga 11/14/2006

I highly recommend Christine's introduction to yoga for beginners. She starts at the very beginning, so that people who don't know anything about yoga or who are afraid to jump into classes can get a firm footing. I was able to persuade my husband to just try it through this and now he goes all the time! Pros: wonderful environment Cons: some classes are getting crowded as Liberation Yoga gains in popularity more

Freedom on La Brea 11/13/2006

Who would think that on La Brea, in the heart of Los Angeles insanity, one could find such peace. Liberation Yoga is my favorite yoga studio in all of LA. I've been going there for about 2 years now, and even from the very beginning, the owners Christine and Gary knew my name! That's almost unheard of! Just walking into the studio brings me an overwhelming sense of calm and safety. Plus, the classes and workshops they offer are amazing. From kirtan concerts to re-birthing workshops, from gentle restorative classes to raging-fire level 3's, they've got everything. I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know (in fact, I have done just that). Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, amazing classes and instructors Cons: Some of the more popular classes are REALLY full more

Never what I expect, in the best possible way 11/13/2006

I stumbled onto Liberation Yoga a few months after I first moved to Los Angeles. I came from the East Coast, where both this city and the art have kind of a similar negative association (Seriously, how cliche is it to move to LA and take up yoga?), but walking past this quiet, friendly studio one day enticed me to take a class, and I've been hooked ever since. I started with the most basic of classes, and over the past few years I've worked up to a higher level, and every teacher I've encountered at Liberation has been insightful, gentle and inspirational. It's just so great to go to a place where you're greeted with such energy every time you walk through the door. Under their guidance I've become stronger and more flexible physically, and grounded and more centered spiritually. The humble, communal atmosphere of the studio and the students who practice there is a bright spot of joy and peace in my week. Students are encouraged to rise to, and revel in new challenges, but never to push themselves beyond what their body is telling them. Every time I go to the Candlelight Flow class on Sunday evening, Christine has a new gem of wisdom to pass along to us aspiring yogis, and every time I leave, I feel like I'm taking a new sense of clarity back out into the world with me. more

an authentic yoga studio filled with warmth and charm... 11/13/2006

If you are looking for a sactuary with heart and soul- where you not only go to do some of the best Pros: warm atmosphere, parking, service, great yoga Cons: small reception area, sometimes a bit noisy in garden more

best of everything 11/13/2006

Christine and Gary have created the impossible in LA: a warm, inviting, community centered environment with a wide variety of excellent teachers. Kind, caring, nurturing but rigorous best describes each class and there is truly something for everyone. Liberation has the best of the basics with interesting art, clothing, candles, books, cds and on and on. Wouldn't go anywhere else!!! more

Unpretentious Sanctuary 11/13/2006

Liberation Yoga is an absolute treasure! It's got such a welcoming vibe and comfy, serene atmosphere... It's always a pleasure to hang out before or after class. The owners Christine and Gary (who always seem to be there) are so hospitable, and genuine--I'm amazed at the way they remember everyones name! The instructors are spectacular-- all very knowledeable and approachable with diverse teaching styles. In addition to their regular schedule- Liberation also hosts awesome life coaching, breathing and feng shui workshops. You can check out what's coming up on their website. Great location...easy parking most of the time (read posted signs 4-7pm can be a little challenging) Pros: class size, ambience, friendly staff, package prices more

Liberation Yoga is hands down (yoga style) the foremost learning experienc ever! 11/13/2006

I work with inner city students struggling to find a place in an imperfect world. Realizing my students and I were on the same path I reached out to find some sense of tranquility and enlightenment for me. Yoga was introduced to me by Christine Burke and Gary McCleery of Liberation Yoga as a way of heightening my state of awareness, reducing my work related stress, and sending me on a path of health, healing, and inner and outer strength. Liberation Yoga has created a safe environment where new and old students alike can practice without judgment. I discovered more about myself in the time I?ve spent at Liberation Yoga then in years of alternate therapeutic environments. I?ve been able to pass on my enthusiasm for yoga to my students who now look for the opportunities to practice and they get a happier healthier counselor! I healthfully walked through the dark path of divorce and was able to maintain a positive sense of self through it all thanks in large to Liberation Yoga and their caring instructors. This is not your ordinary exercise place; Liberation Yoga fosters growth spiritually, mentally, and physically. I highly recommend this community to anyone interested in inner and outer growth. As a side note to those purely motivated by what they can see, I?ve lost 20 lbs, I?m free of pain, I?m running 6 miles ever other day, and I?m stronger than I ever was after years of weight training. All the results of my practice at Liberation Yoga! Pros: Excellent Instructors, level variation, genuine concern regarding injuries and alternatives more

everything you needed and wanted from life that had been missing until you walked in 11/13/2006

Coming to Los Angeles, knowing no-one, at a time of a lot of changes in my life, Liberation provided much more than just a place to ""learn yoga"". Christine and Gary are incredibly welcoming, friendly, genuine and knowledgeable - and conscientious with the way they run Liberation. If you want to go to a yoga place that is about posing and having a physical work out which doesn't engage one's higher consciousness then don't go to Liberation. The first few times I went there I went out knowing that I was being made aware of things that were going to change the rest of my life. Since that first burst of practicing yoga a lot over four or five months....my life has changed. And when I am back in town...I always pop in to say hi and have a gossip over a cup of tea with Christine or Allison. Which reminds me I should really start doing some yoga again....Liberation showed me how yoga can transform your life and also is a great little community of friendly and various souls which can be a nice thing to find when you are new to Los Angeles. more

A Place to call ""Om"" 1/30/2006

After practing yoga at a number of local studios, I'm proud to call Liberation Yoga home. Every detail makes this place great, from the wonderful owners, teachers, fellow students, and the yummy tea waiting for me after class :) There's art on the walls painted by fellow yogis, twinkle lights in the candlelit garden studio, a number of cool workshops and events, and super cute finds in the boutique (keep your eyes peeled for the great sales!). Also, Ako's massages are incredible! Best of all, Gary and Christine (along with the rest of the Liberation Yoga crew) are so warm and open...such a difference from the pretentious vibes I've encountered elsewhere. Check it out! Pros: relaxing atmosphere, great teachers, garden studio more
