Doesn't have the skills for technical repairs 9/14/2012

Took my laptop in as it had no power. Looking on the internet and found many links to same problem and with the same solution to them. Took to Ky Trade and even talked about what I found on the internet. I can't do board soldering but Ky Trade said they could. Laptop sat a week with me calling several times after the 3rd day when finally informed that they can't find the problem and motherboard is bad. Only thing they can do is replace the motherboard. I paid $50 for the appraisal. Went to eBay and found several vendors offering service to my laptop for same issue, money back guarantee for $100. Sent to NY and had back in 5 days repaired. more

hard working 3/19/2011

i got a labtop, but the battery didn't work. instead of sending me out with the bad labtop, they worked to get the labtop working, and when they didn't, they got me a new one. more

Don't Go There! 9/28/2010

I took my PC there to be repaired twice. Both times I was charged $125 dollars. They also 'kept' the PC for over a week both times as well. When I had problems with it again, about 4 months later, a guy at work worked on it for and charged me $35 bucks. He said, KY Trade had ripped me off and that the problem was an easy fix. He spent less than 30 minutes fixing it and I haven't had a problem with it in the past year since he worked on it.I don't recommend anyone going to KY Trade. Do some checking around first. I wish I had done the same thing. I'd still have $250 bucks in my pocket if I had. more

Pricey and Condescending! 7/21/2010

I had some issues with networking at home and a few computers I purchased for myself and my family. I took computers (all laptops) to KY Trade for repair on a few occassions. They treated me like I was dumb and as I found out later, completely ripped me off on price. I spent a total of over $300 there and could never get problems fixed to my satisfaction.\r \r I met the owner of another computer repair place, BT Solutions, his name is Jon. After talking for a few minutes, I decided he might be able to help. He has made two visits to my home and completely solved all of our issues and we are paid up for months to come still for less than I spent at KY Trade. Don't go here, call BT Solutions or anyone except KY Trade! more

A good company!! 4/8/2010

The reviewer who said that cultural differences are mainly the reason for the "bad customer service" reviews is mostly correct. I attended UK, which is literally right around the corner from Ky Trade Computers. Before I graduated a few years ago, our old desktop system bit the dust and my wife and I decided to have Ky Trade build our new system.\r \r Sidenote: I spent several years in Central and South America while I was in the military. I speak Spanish quite well.\r \r I and my wife talked with several employees, including Freddy, about what we were looking for (ie: easily upgradeable, power requirements, memory, etc). I talked with Freddy and the other Dominican employees in both Spanish and English, which put them at ease. We were, in fact, treated like family- laughing and joking the whole time they were squaring us away. Their dog is ancient, but loveable.\r \r Anyways, they put us together a good system for a reasonable amount of money, warrented the whole thing and had us a ne more

KY trade good company 11/16/2008

OK people, I have been doing business with KY trade for 6 years. Are they the cheapest? Not always. Do they kiss up to their clients? No. But guess what? They get the job done. They will sit there with you for hours and educate you and talk to you, rather than the larger stores like best buy who will rush you out of there ASAP. \r \r You get the personal treatment. They are large enough to be very professional but small enough to care. Their technical people have actually taken me to the computer shop in the back and showed me what was wrong with my computer. \r \r You also have to understand that they are not americans. They are Latinos from the Dominican Republic. Latinos businesses are not customer friendly driven, they are all about business and straight forward. So the experience will be a little different. It is not a lack of customer service it is just a cultural difference in the approach to business.\r \r As a consumer it is your responsibility to educate yourself about your product more

Put me down as a hater as well! 9/23/2008

Recently I purchased a used computer from a college student. The computer needed a new power supply. I decided to try Kentucky Trade as I like to support small businesses and this one intrigued me with their webpage description of on-site working stations and knowledgeable personnel. \r \r I went to the store and did in fact use the work station and I did meet 2 of the store employees and they were very polite and knowledgeable. What put me off were the prices. All I needed was a generic PSU ATX250W power supply and I was charged $50 for it. I knew I was being completely ripped off but I needed the power supply that day so I bit the bullet.\r \r Today I need something else for my computer. I just now got off the phone with them as I am needing Arctic Silver Thermal Paste and Radio Shack did not have any in stock. What did they want for it? $35! It retails on Newegg for $5.95. I then called Office Depot and they sell the exact same thing that Kentucky Trade was trying to sell me more

Ignore the positive reviews here. KY Trade is NOT the place to go! 7/14/2008

I think if you checked the IP addresses from the positive reviews of KY Trade Computers, they would be shown to have originated from their store or from their homes.\r \r I have experienced everything that the previous negative reviewers have expressed. \r \r Bottom line: You will pay more than retail for most items. The owners' are not nice people. Your computer service will cost you more than they will tell you, and they will erase things without consulting you.\r \r The individuals working in the service department, i.e. the people who will work on your computer, are NOT certified and have questionable abilities.\r \r STAY AWAY! more

Update to "Beware!" (below) 7/8/2008

I am the author of the review below. I was impressed that Freddy very promptly responded to my e-complaint e-mail, refunded a portion of my money, and fixed the customer service e-mail account, all very courteously. This make me much more likely to return. \r \r I have no relationship with the company, other than being an occasional customer. more

Good work, bad service. 1/25/2008

I'm giving them 3 stars because my computer was fixed in the end, and that's the most important part.\r \r Pros: They fixed my computer fine, saved all of my documents (which I was VERY grateful for) and the price was fairly decent ($175) compared to what I was expecting. After I had more problems a day later, they re-fixed it for free.\r \r Cons: To put it simply, they treated me like I was an idiot. They were short with me every time I went in there, not listening or even writing down what I was trying to tell them was wrong with it. The woman was the worst, she was rude every time I went in. I only dealt with the man once (apparently they are husband and wife from reading the other reviews) but he seemed much nicer. They never called to tell me what was wrong, they just wiped the hard drive and gave it back to me. Also, after I had more problems a day later when I hadn't even used it yet, they tried to tell me it was my fault and that I'd have to pay again. After some arguing, th more

Overcharged and No Customer Service Response 12/17/2007

We wish we had seen the negative online reviews before dealing again with Kentucky Trade. Over the years we have purchased computer parts from them and placed reasonable trust in the company, although the prices were full retail. The atmosphere of late seems tense at times and something seems to be wrong. Recently, we needed a business notebook computer with a specific operating system in a short amount of time. Miguel said they had one in stock (by a major brand computer company) and we were asked to come look at it. He said he would be gone but Maria would help and "not to worry." Maria was nervous and seemed incompetent regarding the correct computer items and box. Freddy was aloof and the place was, in a word, "creepy." While looking up the computer part number, we found out we had been overcharged $175 above the manufacturers suggested retail price for the system (22% above the going retail MSRP price). We contacted Kentucky Trade at their customer care E-mail address and it bo more

Great service 12/15/2007

I have used this store for many years now and I have always received the best of service. I have never been disappointed, with the service of either the owner or his wife!! I highly recommend.\r \r Davy J more

Extremely malicious review 10/9/2007

I just had to respond to this mean-spirited, malicious review of a store I've been doing business with for over 15 years. Hey, these guys are wonderful. Their prices are great, their support is beyond exceptional, and they really, truly care about their customers. The reviewer obviously forgot to take his meds. I couldn't recommend KY Trade more highly! more

KY Trade is a rip-off 7/8/2007

I would never recommend KY Trade Computers as a business to go to if shopping for a pc or any parts..........and never again will I purchase a KY Trade computer. \r \r I bought a re-built pc from this place and each time I have taken it in for repair I received hell. Earlier this year, I took it in for what I found out later was something extremely MINOR, and they wanted to keep my computer for 3 days and charge me around $300.\r \r I do not like Freddy or his wife, who thinks she is the bomb. They are a rip-off business and I pray that they go out of business soon. They rebuild computers then jack the prices up to make it seem like you are getting a "good deal" when in reality you can purchase a computer in store for a better deal and one that will last!\r \r Do not purchase anything from this store. You will regret it. They do not care about resolving your issues, they just want your money.\r \r By the way, KY Trade is not a well known computer manufacturer across the world. KY Trade Computers 9/30/2005

Located on Virginia Avenue Ky Trade a small locally owned family run store. It is great if you are buying a large amount of computer equipment, they will try to give you the best price they possibly can. Once purchased if something goes wrong they are good about fixing it as long as you are continuing to purchase large amounts of merchandise. It's once you have stopped making large purchases and just need various small items that their customer service becomes practically nil and the owner's wife can be downright rude at times. Watch out if you have pet allergies, they do have a mid size dog on premises who is often allowed to roam the store. more
