Editorial review from Citysearch 8/9/2012

During a recent inspection of my fiance's engagement ring, it was discovered that there was a small chip on the side of the diamond. This chip is not noticeable to the naked eye. First of all, I was disappointed in the fact that her diamond had a chip in it and she has only worn it for a year, not to mention we are not even married yet and I still have payments left on an 11K ring. But, that is not my biggest concern/complaint. My issue was with the overall general lack of concern and compassion shown by both the store and customer service because we were two months past inspection. Apparently this null and voids EVERYTHING that Jared offers as a guarantee! They do not explain that to you when you overpay for their diamonds. They do everything they can to make you feel like you will be taken care of for all of your years. Well, that is completely false! \r \r Their initial answer was to buy a new diamond at retail ($7700) to replace the old one. After some arguing with the store, they were willing to sell it to me at cost ($5400). Now, that right there shows you the markup that they place on diamonds. Had I been armed with this information at the time of purchase, I would have actually tried to haggle, but hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, what they did not understand was that I had no intention of purchasing a new diamond! Even though I continued to repeat myself, they offered no alternatives. I called customer service and the first person I spoke with could care less about my issue. After fighting to get a supervisor on the phone, I was able to find some compassion, but no alternative. \r \r Their main reasoning for not assisting in the matter was due to the fact that I violated the warranty by coming in two months late. Basically, because I was two months late and they discovered a chip, the diamond was no longer warrantied from there on out...against ANYTHING! Interestingly, I actually had an assistant manager at the store inform me that a Jared warranty is like insurance, if you do not pay the insurance, you are not covered. Seriously?!?!? A warranty is called a warranty for a reason. Insurance is insurance, for a reason. They are NOT the same! One is paid for up front (built into cost) and a customer often purchases a product of such magnitude based on a company's willingness to stand behind their product. Insurance is paid to a second-party, often monthly and often with a deductible. My warranty on my GMC expired after 36,000 miles. I took it in at 50,000 miles because the fuel pump was shot. Although my warranty had expired, GMC still replaced the fuel pump at no cost to me because they did not feel that the fuel pump should have failed so soon. I never asked, they just said that is what they were going to do. That's customer care! I is not like I am talking about a $200 necklace here or a Pandora bracelet. It is an engagement that cost me 5 figures!\r \r Anyway, there is much more to this story, to include customer service placing the burden on the store and the store placing the burden on customer service. But ultimately, what I came away with was that Jared could care less about their customers and it is all about the bottom dollar. I will never shop at a chain jewelery store again and I am going to tell my story to every social network site I can find in the hope that people do not spend their hard earned money on Jared's over-priced merchandise, weak warranty and uncaring staff.\r \r If you live in the Ashburn/Sterling/Leesburg area, there are several established mom and pop jewelers in downtown Leesburg that can attend to your needs more

Don't go to Jared 11/14/2011

outstanding service until they get your money, then Horrible experience. To make a long story short, bought a $1600 diamond ring that came with life time warranty, had a problem with it and people at Jared will not honor the warranty, they offer to fix the ring for the cost of about $600, or I need to purchase another kind of warranty for $139(another way to keep selling you things and taking your money). Will not fix my ring and will not honor the written warranty that I showed them saying the people who sold me the ring a while ago are no longer here and they are new staff. If you want to deal with them, do it at your own risk. My advice, find someone else. This comment is for Jared at Dulles Town Center in Sterling, VA. more

Can I PLEASE have my watch back? 8/17/2010

In early May, the clasp broke on my Tag Heuer watch (despite the fact that I had it ""overhauled"" through Jared a year ago). Jared sent it in to the repair facility and told me it'd cost $160 to get fixed, which I approved, saying it'd be done in 4-6 weeks. \r \r No phone calls, no emails, no communication whatsover for 8 weeks, so I called to find out the status. They told me the part was back ordered and it'd be done in two more weeks. It's now mid-August, and I still don't have my watch -- or any idea of where it is! \r \r I get that sometimes you have to send things out for repair vs. doing them in-store, but if you're charging me $160 to replace a simple metal clasp, you should at least earn it through good service. more

Watch Vendor Opportunist 6/3/2010

I have a Swiss watch that has a built-in led flashlight. The watch has a separate battery for the timing mechanism and the flashlight. I had them send it to their watch repair vendor because they can compress the watch to maintain the waterproof integrity of the watch. They wrote up the work order as “watch broken” however the watch was keeping perfect time and only needed a new battery for the led flashlight.\r A week later I received a telephone call that the repair vendor said the watch needed a total timepiece overhaul. I told the store representative that the watch was keeping perfect time and only needed the one battery; however I opted to have both replaced. So here a vendor somewhere gets a watch that appears to be keeping perfect time and decides to make an opportunity for some easy money. The store representative said they would look into it and give a return call. Two weeks passed and no call, even after I called back after the first week and again was promised a return call. Finally, I called and requested my watch be returned and today I picked it up. It is still keeping perfect time and the store still doesn’t have any knowledge of what happened with the quote of $160 to fix a perfect time keeping watch.\r Run like the wind future newlyweds-this is not the way you want to start your married lives.\r Pros: Oops Shouldn't Have Scammed That One!!! Cons: No follow up-two steps below a pawn shop more

I visited the Edina, MN location and was treated very well. Great service. 12/29/2008

I visited the Edina, MN location and was treated very well. I was greeted as I entered the store, looked around and saw the look I was after. I asked for some help in selcecting a pice that had the look my wife was after and the price I could afford. The salespreson did that for me, they wrapped the gift and placed in in a attractive bag. My wife was delighted. I know the price I paid was at the high end ($2,200) for a piece like this but it is as my wife had wanted.\r She is happy - I am happy. Service was great - easy in - easy out - I am going back.\r I don't know what locations the others went to but I was very pleased. Pros: easy in - easy out, knowledgable, friendly service Cons: to crowded more

CAUTION.... AVIOD: JARED, ""GALLERY OF JEWELRY"" 8/20/2008

WOW !!! Impressive that a jewelry store, in today's economy, can run business off by insulting their customers. Maybe I should have asked for a job application... anybody who behaves as condescendingly as MIKE MORGENROOD (He's the manager), at 21115 Dulles Town Cir. Dulles, VA's store, must not need to sell any merchandise to make a living. This guy acted as though we were doing HIM a favor by spending money on his product. CONDESCENDING, ARROGANT, RUDE.... Maybe we should have dressed up in more expensive clothing... We were treated like qypsies, efforting a theft. I purchased 2 wedding bands from FINK'S ( a store in the mall adjascent to the Jared store) inside of an hour after my miserable experience with Mr. Morgenrood. $3,200 might not be a lot of money for a sotre like JARED.... but it SHOULD be. This is NOT an advertisement for FINKS... Chris, the sales associate there, happened to EARN my business with his customer service, and product knowledge. JARED will NEVER see any of my business. more

AWFUL SERVICE! Sales Rep VERY uninformed! 4/3/2008

If I could rate them a zero I would!\r \r They lost out on a $2,000.00 purchase all because the sales rep was VERY uniformed and the manager was rude and unwilling to work with us. I will never set foot in that store again. I am appalled that a place deemed so ""Classy"" was so incredibly unprofessional.\r \r We bought a ring, being told that it would fit a 2 CT, come to find out it would only fit a 1/2 CT and the ring would need to be remade in order to fit a 2 CT. This is of course after we purchased the ring and had to take it to another Jeweler to attempt getting the stone set...since we didn't buy our diamond from the they wouldn't set it for us. The other local Jeweler also told us that Jared's did not put a crown on the ring and that we would need to purchase that...hmmmm...so there's another few hundred dollars! The manager later tells us that they do not put crowns on any of their rings and after the initial purchase then you buy your crown. We asked the sales rep two different times if one the ring price was the ""final"" price and two that the ring would for sure fit a 2 CT. Both times being told yes. The Manager was unwilling to work with us and was put off by the fact that we wanted to return the ring because of all the errors! They suggested we get a smaller stone to fit the ring!\r \r After all the headache this place casued us we were informed that they had no cash at the store and it would be 5-7 business days before we reveiced a check from them! Other wise we could keep calling them to see if they had any cash for us, in hopes that someone would come in and make a purchase.\r NEVER NEVER NEVER again will I do business with this place.\r \r \r \r Pros: Nice Building Cons: Too many to list in such a small space! more

I went to Jared for the variety of engagement rings. I already had my center stone but was struggling to find a wedding band and engagement ring that I liked when put together. My best friend and I went together and we got our other jewelry cleaned while we were waited on by two people. I ended up getting a beautiful Tocori. It was only two weeks away from my wedding when I picked out the rings, and Jared had to special order my ring size as the band had a lot of detail they didn't want to reck the detail to resize it. Jared was able to put my center stone in the ring that was too big for my finger with a spacer so I was able to wear it on my wedding day. When my ring came in, Jared was able to replace my center stone with my new ring very quickly and at no charge. So, that experience was great. Anytime I go to Maple Grove, I stop in Jared's and have my rings cleaned, and the staff is always friendly. Sometimes, it takes a few minutes for a sales rep to greet you if it is busy, but otherwise, the service is great. Pros: Variety and service more

Worst jewelry store experience EVER! 9/13/2006

My boyfriend and I went to look at engagement rings and were both completely put off by the poor service and quality of merchandise at Jared. We were shuffled around to three different sales people, none of whom would listen to what I wanted in a ring (something very simple and classic, while they kept bringing out rings with tons of filligree and jewels all over). One of the sales women actually DROPPED the loose diamond over the counter onto the floor next to my boyfriend's chair when she was trying to set it in the ring! They seemed very adament about selling us an ideal cut stone, which is funny, because when another ""diamond expert"" came over to admire the two rings I was comparing, she couldn't even tell the difference between the ideal cut and the regular diamond. We left feeling pressured and frustrated - not a positive experience to have when you're looking to make an important jewelry purchase. Pros: Beautiful store Cons: Idiotic sales people, poor service more

Completely disappointing. 2/28/2006

I have seen jareds ads on TV and theyve made their name sound as though it were synonymous with quality. This could hardly be more of a lie. \r I was impressed with thier watch selection, but their prices were exactly like everyone elses, so no advantage there. But for jewelry, Jareds is limited to mall-quality refuse, the only difference is that they have more of it and their staff actually takes the time to convince you that its not actually garbage that youre looking at. Knowing what little I did about diamonds, I knew that I was being lied to from the start. If you know anything about jewelry youll want better. Pros: Watch selection. Cons: Poor Quality, misleading sales staff, horribly over priced. more

Awful service. 11/26/2005

I was in the store for more than 20 minutes and not a single employee even greeted me. They claimed to have some the designers I was looking for but only had two to three pieces of each line. Two to three? That's selection. I asked two different employees for help and they both said they would be right with me but niether one came back. Terrible service. Pros: Nice store. Cons: Their name is a joke., Few designer pieces., Horrible service!!!!! more
