Great Service, Great Price 3/28/2011

Bought 4 guns. Very helpful staff, especially the older, bearded gentleman. A long drive from Stamford, but worth it. more

employees were terrific 3/28/2011

Wow! I went there for the first time this week and I thought the employees were terrific! Being a newbie to guns(pistols anyway) and a woman to boot, I was afraid that they would treat me like I was stupid but they were wonderful. Answered my ton of questions, patiently, showed me various pistols for my needs without being too pushy and were supportive. I will be taking my permit class there in a few weeks. Love that you can try out pistols on their firing range for $10 for 10 shots. Also a neighbor found some old ammo in her basement that her late husband had left years ago. she didn't know what to do with it so she took it to Hoffmans and they took it and disposed of it for her, no problem. Price wise they seem average to other places I have looked around. more

went above & beyond 3/22/2011

Had a great experience here. Brought an old Ruger 22 rifle in, and the person who helped me took the time to teach me about the gun, really went above and beyond. Great selection, once I get my pistol permit, I'm buying there. Also nice place to go to the range during lunch. They let you shoot pistols and pistol caliber rifles. more

Don't let the other reviews keep you away, not that bad 3/13/2011

I went twice in the same day - middle of a week day and then back around the early evening. It gets crowded around 5ish so go early if you can. Some of the staff does seem to hang around chatting with one another, so don't expect them to proactively come over and help, but when I asked for assistance they were willing. One guy stocking the shelves even stopped his work to aid me twice. When I was their mid-day and wanted to look at some guns, I did have to wait a few minutes and was ignored by one or two people there, but a gentleman with a beard and glasses stopped by as soon as he was finished with another customer and took the time to explain the differences between the models and was very friendly and informative. They didn't have what I wanted so I ended up going to the Gun Exchange. I had about the same level of service there. My last stop that day was Cabela's - I would recommend going there first because their selection is massive and their prices were $10 - 20 lower than the either Hoffman's or NGE. more

Hoffman's really Bl0ws 3/11/2011

Hoffman's is for sure the worst. Scoot & Patty Hoffman are only concerned about shoving money in their pockets. OSHA has been back to the store twice. That grey dust you see on everything is lead-dust. Scott & Patty kept denying it & refused to fix it so OSHA will be shutting them down in the next couple of weeks. more

Disgusting customer service... 2/10/2011

I have always been disgusted by the customer service at Hoffman's, just like most other customers, but for some reason I end up going back from time to time. Really only because of their large inventory. This most recent time, I walked in during the early afternoon with a pocket full of cash and full intentions of purchasing a $1000 pistol they had in stock. I counted 5 customers, and 11 employees while I was standing at the counter waiting. I waited for 15 MINUTES and was completely ignored. No ""can I help you,"" or ""someone will be right with you."" So, like any self-respecting consumer I walked out and went down the street to give my business to another local dealer. As if their instructors shooting themselves and negligent discharges inside the store weren't enough, their customer service really is as poor as people say. I only wish I could give them 0 stars. more

SPARE YOURSELF AND DON""T GO. IT IS AWFUL 1/17/2011

BBBBBBBBBAAAAAAADDDDDDDDD service, if thats what you want to call it. they are particularly rude and can give out stupid sarcastic answers. THey are douchebags. Some prices are ok or pretty good and others are a rip off. ANd if you happen to want to shoot at their range, now that is a fudging rip off. and on top of that dont even think about bring your walmart/ personal ammo, they will give you a hard time and wont let them into the range. yeah its nice and new, but is it really worth about $1 / min essentially, i know of private or public ranges in C-sucker CT that are $5/hr and $1/15min after that, and you start wondering about the $15/15min that hoffmans wants to swindle you for. TO be honest, save yourself the hassel and drive 5 min up the street to Newington gun exchange. they have great customer service, a pretty large selection, and similar if not better prices than hoffmans. Cabela's is alwasy another option. you might be waiting a while, but at least they aren't buttholes when they get to you. more

UNSAFE 1/2/2011

I hate to write bad stuff about a gun store in this anti-gun climate but it is a matter of safety. I had a loaded gun pointed in my direction and noone bothered to see if it iwas loaded first!!!!! I was there the day one of the instructors shot themself. I haven't seen him in a long time so I think he quit or was fired. No one will say. Turns out the big guy there named Darren I think also shot himself. He is a instructor to. i've been going there for a long time (6 years both stores) and they have always be dangerous, but now its way to out of control. A lot of the guys that work there are really careless. i won't bring my kid anymore. more

Poor customer service 5/13/2010

I was there to buy some accessories for my AR. I asked a guy there for help and he pointed to the other end wall and said ""They're over there"" then went on chatting with 1 of the staff there. When I decided to buy the accessories, I stood at the counter and waited for my turn. The staff saw me but didn't bother to offer help. So I decided to leave. Very sad though. Pros: Tons of inventory (2 stars) Cons: They don't really care much about their customers more

Poor Customer Service 3/7/2010

After reading the review, I just had to post my own experience. After obtaing my pistol permit, I was in search of a handgun, so I visited the Hoffman location. I entered the location expecting to be help by a sales person. I was not acknowledge while waiting at the counter. I had to ask for help. The people that work at this location are rude and yes they pick and choose who they want to service. When I finally got help, I was told I need proof of this and that, when I clearly have a permit. At that moment, I went to another store when the service was 10 times better and I was not given the third degree. Cons: Poor Customer Service more

Same Story Guys- Poor service 1/19/2010

The store is filled with inventory, at times plenty of good used guns as well...along with a really nice new range- so to shoot a little or browse, its a good place to kill some tume. However, when you actually want to BUY something and need a truly kniwledgable servvice oriented salesperon, the entire experience changes. These guys wrote the book on curt, condescending customer service. The sales people seem more into bs'ing with their coworkers than helping buying customers work through choices as they evaluate different firearms. It is truly dissapponiting- they could get much more business from me, which I have taken to Newington Gun Exchange with better luck, and I have to say....Cabelas gun salespeople have been the best around! They've gotten more business from me lately, have been coolecting more and in buying mode. BMG is now across the street- hope they eat some of their lunch as well. By the way- writing this review at 11am, having just hung up after 12 minutes on hold for a Hoffman salesperson. more

Poor customer service 2/21/2009

I laughed when I read the other reviews, as I just had the same experience. I don't understand the attitude at Hoffmans. I stood at a counter for over fifteen minutes when it wasn't even busy. When I asked for help I got an attitude, so I finally left. I was about to buy a pistol, but I decided to buy elsewhere. Pros: Good inventory, nice store. Cons: Poor customer service. more

Great Inventory, Poor service / attitudes 10/1/2008

I have to say their new location is great. The store is new, fresh smelling, tons of inventory. They have a sad holster selection but its always been like that for 15yrs. I seldom go to Hoffman's. But I figured why not check out their new store. They may have a large inventory but the ""regulars"" are still working here. They have a few new employees and they must all follow the same poor customer service and bad attitude Hoffman's employee handbook. I am not sure why its this way. The service is below average in the sense they pick and choose who they want to help. If you ask a question to an employee who is just standing around you are given a ""chip on the shoulder"" answer. All of my friends have received the same treatment when coming here and they took their business elsewhere. I went in looking at a high end 1911 willing to drop $2800 but the poor customer service really turned me off. I was ignored many times trying to get someone to show me the 1911 and when I finally got to fondle it I was talked down to by two employees. I am ex military (12yrs) and not sure where some of these guys working here think they are (stuff I overheard...) Overall I went to another store down the street and had them order me the ""$2800"" 1911 and I got it at a better price, waaaaaay better service, and more goodies thrown in. Stop into Hoffman's and see for yourself. Maybe you will have a better experience. I hope Cabela's takes even more of their biz. more
