I have been shopping at Hoffman's for about 2 1/2 years now and have bought approximately 19 handguns and rifles from them. Both used and new. I have never gotten a bad deal on either. The used guns have a 30 day warranty which I never had to take advantage of. Their prices may be a little higher than some internet outlets, but you don't have to pay shipping or transfer fees, and I like to look and touch items before I buy. They have always beaten the other local retail outlets in both price and quality. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable sales staff. Huge selection of both new and used firearms. And they have a brand new state of the art indoor gun range in the store. Check them out! more

After reading all of the negative comments I was to say the least, surprized. Of course, having dealt with Forest and Field in Norwalk any place is better. My experience with Hoffman's is the opposite in almost every way to the other posters. I have purchased a dozen or so guns from them both new and used. I have always found the staff to be helpful and knowledgable. I especially like Hoffman's ten bullets for ten bucks policy that has enabled me to test fire guns before I purchase, or in some cases didn't. The only issue is...they get crowded and busy especially on Saturdays, resuting in some long waits at the counter. If that's your hangup, I suggest going on a weekday or early Sunday morning. I have also done business with Newington Gun Exchange, and they too are excellent. They are smaller and more ""quaint"" if that's your bag. They are a little more high priced than Hoffman's and have nowhere near the selection, but will be happy to order anything you want. For my money, Hoffman's prices and service can't be beat. If you ever really have a problem with the staff, I suggest you go to the front counter and ask for Scott (the owner). more

Loved it. Very positive experience all around. We tried out their 10 for $10 deal, which is a great deal and is also tremendously helpful in deciding if a firearm is worth a purchase or not. This is a super way to minimize the chance of buyer's regret. The range is nice, new, clean, and air conditioned. Targets, eyes, and ears are all included in your range fee. Also, no long guns are allowed, so the noise level is probably a bit less than other range. The sales process was an ease as well. Darren was very full of information, patient, and easy to work with.The prices are incredible, the specials are even better! No haggling necessary, as all prices are on the merchandise and (from my research) very very fair. Hoffman's is a bit of a hike from my neck of the woods (Stamford), but it is well worth it for the great prices, selection, and service. more

Rude, Obnoxious, unknowledgable and meat head Staff that talks down to customers, who find it a hastle to work for your money (answer questions/engage customers). On my last visit there I emptied, and double checked my firearm, and was putting it away in my bag. It was half way in the bag muzzle down, and the employee came over and nagged me about keeping the muzzle downrange. I complied and apologized. Two seconds later he went over to an acquaintance and was guffawing about (I $ hit you not) ""What a F*cking Retard"" I am. It is funny because this is the same type of attitude and vibe I have gotten from many of their staff over the years. Everyone knows they love paying someone to treat them like $ hit. I will say that the owner is pleasant, along with maybe a select few others, and that they have a good selection. But it has seemed that maybe every other time my family, friends or I go, we feel that we get treated like $ hit and walk away flustered. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years at this store. But, Since I am so f*cking retarded though, I don't think I will be able to figure out how to spend anymore money or time there. I might even get lost because of how retarded I am and end up at Newington Gun Exchange 5min up the street, or maybe even at Wolf's 20 min over in Bristol. Who knows maybe they will just happen to know how to treat a retard. more

Good selection and competitive prices on some items, but not the best customer service overall. Waited about an hour to be helped when I knew exactly what I wanted before even stepping foot in the store just needed someone to get the damn guns out of the display case and ring me up. Ratio of employees to customers did not warrant the long wait to get help, they were well staffed enough to help customers, instead I saw numerous employees just standing around and shooting the sh!t with each other well aware that I was standing in the same place waiting for someone to ring me up, even looked directly over at me and made eye contact and still stood around like a lazy sloth. Honestly if I was their employer I would probably fire 90% of the lazy ass and disrespectfully staff there, I say 90% because yes I did see a few staff members who did make a conscious effort to help customers waiting for help. I finally got help from a nice young man who retrieved the guns for me and took care of my purchase, one of the few gentlemen that actually does some work there. I bought my two guns there since I wasted an hour waiting there already anyways, and yes I have to agree that the prices on some of their products are very competitive, but honestly I will probably not be going back there again, I certainly would never consider taking anything there to get serviced. I would definitely consider the many other places in CT. that are more Customer Service Oriented (NEX, K5, Outpost, Cabellas, Ron's Guns, northcove, to name a few before going there even if the prices maybe slightly higher at those other mentioned shops. Too bad...Hoffmans is a nice store with a good selection and competitive prices, but the customer service is so poor that it negates those positive points. more
