Heinrich's Decorating Nook

First, I would like to say that I am thrilled they have so many of the luster dusts, pearl dusts and powders! THAT is what makes me go there. HOWEVER, the fondant is way more expensive than Miles.. so that makes me have to go to 2 places.. There cake accessories are absolutely outrageous in price! I've found them online MUCH cheaper. And lastly, the owner is a rude woman. She IS nasty to her staff. And on 2 different occasions, she has come over while I was looking at the dusts and started putting them away, before I even got what I needed. She was rushing me..and telling the girls to put things back. It was VERY uncomfortable. Will I go there again? YES, because I NEED those powders! Unless I can find them elsewhere, cheaper. The girls and women that work there are VERY helpful, when given the chance to do that for a customer. more

For many years I have decorated cakes! I started shopping at Heinreichs when they was on Gratiot in Detroit. I agree that they have a great selection of merchandise. But I was in there with my grandson who is 8 years old. I simply asked about a certain cake pan and the lady that was waiting on me asked the older lady a simple question, the older lady was so rude. My 8 year old grandson was scared of the lady. He commented on how mean she was. After that I walked out of the store. I have gone back in but refuse to take my grandson in there. I only go there if I can't find what I need at Miles. They need to cage that lady in the back room and not let her out during business hours. She is going to run the customers away. I have heard her snap at the employees. Not fair to them or the customers. more

I used to go to Heinrich's on a regular basis and never failed to find what I needed for a baking project. Was always able to come up with new ideas just by walking around and looking at their supplies. I moved to northeastern Alabama 6 yrs ago and & miss Heinrich's so much!! There is nothing like their shop where I live and would really like to be able to shop there online. Really miss all the friendly, helpful staff. more

I have been in the store in a few different occasions, & was impressed with the variety. Some of the stock is a bit outdated tho.\r I do have to agree about the older brunette woman who I assume is the owner. She is rude to not only her staff, but customers as well. I witnessed an incident last summer that I was appalled by. The older woman out her hands on an employee in a way that was VERY INAPPROPRIATE. She placed the womans arms behind her back & held them like that for a few minutes. The poor thing looked like she was in shock. I did walk out, I think I was in shock too. Just recently I overheard her telling someone that everyone who works for her are idiots. How this woman has stayed in business the way she treats people just amazes me. \r The staff is on the otherhand is great, most of the Ladies that work there are very knowledgable, & helpful. Went to Heinrich?s the other day and was very impressed with everything. Their stock is like no other bakery supply house I have ever been at. The service was pretty good from my end and what I saw/heard with other customers. Only gave it 4 stars because honestly I have yet to find a place with ?World Class? service. Great place I will recommend and use them again and again. more

I am an intermediate baker and find that I have a hard time containing myself inside this store. I could stay for hours, just looking at the variety, and hoping to get a phone call to make a specialty cake or cupcakes. Unless it's behind a counter, I have no need for employees helping me, so that point is moot to me. I strongly and highly recommend this store, because if you are a cake decorator, you know what you need and shouldn't be bothered by the employees, helpful, pleasant, or otherwise. more

I've shopped at many cake supply stores in the Metropolitan area and I still think Heinrich's is the best. I too have found that the workers in this business just aren't the bubbliest people, Heinrich's included. However, Heinrich's has the best hours and they definitely have the largest selection. And while they aren't particularly friendly, they haven't been rude either. It's pretty much if you don't bother them, they won't bother you....and I can accept that. I just remind myself that it's a cake supply store, not a ""feel good"" store. I had a very bad experience at one cake supply store but I wouldn't do them the favor of mentioning their name and giving them the advertising. I'm glad Heinrich's doesn't resemble that type of atmosphere at all. I like that Heinrich's keeps their shelves clean and stocked with fresh and current items.... not filled with dusty old bottles of flavoring with stains all over them and white labels that have yellowed with age, as one of their competitors often does. I've seen things at some cake supply stores that I wouldn't want if they gave it away for free. So if you want to find the products you need, Heinrich's has it all.... classes, hard to find items that you expected to find online only, competitive prices, good parking, and great hours. more

Wow...I thought I was the only one who thought the staff there was rude! I only go in a couple of times a year for chocolate and candy molds but always find that the people that work there are rude and act like you are wasting their time by asking them a question! Someone actually rolled their eyes when I asked if they had Hello Kitty candles. I also heard this old woman barking at the cashier about "being to friendly and talkative" to customers! Are you kidding me?!? I'm glad I only go a couple of times a year...I don't want to give them tons of money a year! :( more

i had to check out the reviews after hearing talk about it at the store. I always shopped at lynn's pantry til they went out of business. Then i decided my relatives and friends that decorated used heindrics i'll try them. They have some real dated stuff but they also have a large variety of new creative items. I have experienced rudeness once maybe twice but not so bad i had to leave the store. I bekeive the good out ways the bad. more

I am only giving Heinrich's 2 stars because, like the others previously noted, their inventory is outstanding. A bit more expensive, but still - you can get pretty much whatever you are looking for at Heinrich's.\r \r However, I refuse to give the store any higher than 2 starts because of the service I have witnessed in the store. The staff is great - very helpful and friendly. However, there is an older woman there, who I presume is the owner (she has to be if she can get away with the way she treats people), who is quite simply the meanest person I have ever encountered. \r \r On numerous occasions, I have seen her yell at the employees about ?not stocking? appropriately, ?don?t waste the staples?, and just yesterday, saw her refuse to help a customer stating ?I don?t get paid $2/hour anymore?. I've just come from Heinrich's Decorating Nook. The only thing I can complain about is the fact Chris (my boyfriend) dragged me out with the excuse "I have to go to work today!"\r \r The selection was far better than I had hoped, seeing I had just been to two GFS stores looking for the sleeved filling. Even though I've been told they have it, the guy told me I'd have to order it. So I hit Google on my phone and found my way to Heinrich's.\r \r They had everything I needed! The floor help was excellent and cheerful and one of the girls who'd just clocked out even helped me with a question I had about the fillings. I don't know where the rotten customer service came from, maybe those people weren't working there when I paid them a visit. more

I have visited Heinrich's on many occasion have always found what i need and the staff has always been quite friendlily, courteous and willing to help. I have found no other place in the area that has the inventory they do and feel that their prices are reasonable. I do cake decorating more or less as a hobby doing most of my work for friends and family. more

I love this store and very sad that I recently moved to Texas and the stores here do not have not even close to what Heinrich's have.I have always had great customer service especially from Emily she would not only help me she would give me more ideas to make it easier. Keep up the good work and I hope in the near future you would have a web page to order from or even better open a store here in San Antonio I know you would make a ton of money. more

Its sad that a place with such a great variety of products has such unhelpful, caring employees. I am a professional cake decorator so I love it there and the prices are good. But like the other reviewers i agree the employees really are unhelpful and uncaring. Bakers Nook in Saline may not have as big as of selection but I tend to go there because everyone there is very nice and helpful. I have been shopping at Heinrich's for years; I love their selection and their prices are decent. I drive from New Baltimore to their location in Center Line for their variety of items. I do agree that their sales staff is not very customer-oriented, but neither is the owner. :) more

I have been shopping at Heinrich's for years -- and I find their service helpful and friendly. I have never encountered a rude salesperson, but have always been directed in the right direction to find what I am looking for. I have done multiple projects for birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc. and have found it to be the place where I can find just about anything and everything I need. Yes, sometimes you have to look for yourself - but it works because then you learn where things are in the store, etc. It's a good thing. So people, chill out and show a little mercy here - they're a good store & they sell a good product. more

I made my daughter's first birthday cake. A sales assistant showed me what I needed, but was not very friendly. I explained that I didn't know exactly what I needed and had the list from the cake pan. She suggested that I " stick to something I know and buy a cake" I thought that she didn't think I was worthy of help, because I wasn't a professional cake decorator. If you know what you are doing this place has everything, if you don't...I suggest another supply store. more

Unfortunately, we go to this store because they have certain items we need for our cake business. But don't ask for help! The woman that I have seen working in the "sugar room" is not friendly at all!Absolutely no customer service from her. I asked about something from the other side of the store and she shot me a look and said "I don't know". She didn't offer to find someone who could help me. She brushed me off and left me clueless. Now because of this witchy woman, I don't go there unless completely necessary. Miles offers better customer service and they will help out anyway they can. more

I have shopped at Heinrich's on many occasions and have never had problems getting help if I needed it. The wide array of products is amazing and the books available add to the possibilities. I have also used their candy fillings- it was so easy to make a wide selection of dipped Christmas candies with the large selection of flavors and coatings available. The person working there at the time was very helpful in telling me the best way to work with the products. Prices are fair and I have recommended them to all my friends and family. more
