Story from a friend 5/6/2012

My daughter worked there for a short time. Anyway, in that time she was belittled in front of customers constantly, told NOT to smile, told if a single plant dies on her watch consider herself unemployed, not allowed to go to the bathroom, got laughed at if she teared up from the constant belittling and being told she had to be babysat. I always thought that family was rude but it has been totally confirmed. The ""woman"" owner is miserable and takes it out on her employees. There isn't anything you can't buy at a grocery store or other market. I almost forgot, the employees were NOT given gloves to handle the animals, the feces, or to remove the dead animals from the cages. When asked where she could wash up after removing a dead chick, they pointed to a community bucket of water and told her to dip her hands in that and get back to work. I would recommend washing your produce thouroughly if that is the way they run business. I will never give another dime to that business. I'm not telling any of you to not go there but I just had to share my family's experience. more

THE BEST OF THE BEST - WE ARE BLESSED! 4/24/2012

Periodically I skim reviews and did so yesterday when to my surprise I read some very negative feedback with regards to the Frog Pond. I have watched this special place grow from the very early days. I want to inject here that I am not a personal friend, employee or parent of an employee of this establishment. I am a long term customer, period. \r \r Every year I have witnessed the hard work and effort the owners put into providing quality produce to those who appreciate the best at an affordable price. This is a family run operation and it appears they employ many (and need many!) helpers. I don't know what ""old lady"" anyone might be speaking of that might be considered the owner but I do know of a very kind hearted, weather worn, getting older - as we all are - absolutely lovely lady that I see working hard every time I shop at The Frog Pond. \r \r The folks employed there have always been polite and helpful. The man who is the human calculator and runs off a tally faster than speeding train doesn't have the time to make small talk, obviously he is too busy getting us checked out and packed up. This sure beats waiting in line for price checks and malfunctioning cash registers as we experience is most retail establishments. My family, friends and coworkers envy the fact that I have The Frog Pond such a short distance from my home. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that's fair, but when comments are so out of sync with reality...it just makes no sense to me. I hope my review will give those of you who have NOT been to The Frog Pond yet the encouragement to just get in your car and drive there. It is so easy to get to regardless of the direction you are coming from, don't miss out on this place. I know I am jumping the gun here but in the fall...pumpkin time...it is a breathing place to see so bring your camera. I hope this review helps give an honest perspective on this great establishment.\r , more

so rude! 4/10/2012

I used to enjoy going to frog pond until I witnessed the old lady (owner) screaming and humiliating her employees in front of customers. I was embarrased for them and I left my stuff and will NEVER return. People that are looking for a friendly little stand will be let down. The young hired help are wonderful, but the owners are VERY RUDE especially the older woman! more

LOVE it!!! 4/6/2012

No matter what season, I always find what I want at the FrogPond, whether it's produce or flowers or something special. Nice, helpful staff who works their tails off. Everything is always beautiful. My granddaughters love it here. I can't get them to leave. more

owner could care less 7/11/2011

i am a local person who always supported frog pond. the last time i was there i had two boxes of produce. i paid for both boxes and led the young man who carrys the boxes to my car. when he went to put the produce in my car i saw that he only had one box. i asked where the other one was and he said that he did not realize that there was two boxes. we walked back together to find the other box. it was not on the counter, most likely it was put in someone elses car by mistake. when i told the gentelman who calls out the prices what happened he just shrugged his shoulders and moved on to the next person. he never offered any help or refund. i have not been back to frog pond again. i know they have a very good business going so the loss of one customer will not hurt them. but they will not get any more money from me. more

Great place to buy cheap veggies, flowers, fruit and livestock. We love Frog Pond. The only complaint is the guy who does the mental math check-out. Not super -friendly, kind of scary! Lighten-up! LOL more

Let's appreciate the difference between apples and oranges 9/12/2010

Having grown up 15 minutes from Frog Pond, and lived in major cities throughout the US and Europe in my adult years, I return to this place often as a reminder of a REAL farmer's market set on a working farm, and with appreciation for the value and importance of shopping locally (if you care about pesticides, preservatives, and supporting your local businesses). \r \r If you are looking for produce infused with additives to make them look good and taste bland, or can't handle the ""smells"" of being on a family farm, (which incidentally are not overbearing, but more character building), then don't go to Frog Pond. And honestly, the only thing worth shopping for at Great American (that you can't even get at Frog Pond) is their meat. Great American has great deals on steaks, ground sirloin, pork tenderloin, and chicken!\r \r Frog Pond is a place that has old school charm, the kind that has been lost and unappreciated by people looking for apples, while shopping for oranges. \r \r One thing I will say is if you are trying to shop in bulk for food to last you for one to two weeks, that probably won't work here. No preservatives=fresh=needs to be eaten in the next 3-4 days, or take a gamble! more

worst place ever if u want something to eat go to the great american in town Cons: smells like shit and piss and has insects and mice all over more

great local business 5/28/2010

I grew up going to Frog Pond for our fruits and veggies back when it was a tiny stand by the road. We loved wandering up to visit the animals while mom shopped. It has been great watching this local business grow to the scale it has today, and I proudly continue to shop there. I have brought many visiting friends over the years and they all ask to go to Frog Pond every time they come to town. They have the best fruits and vegetables as well as locally made products such as cheeses, maple syrup, even greeting cards by talented local artist Linda Devona. I buy their annuals, perennials, vegetables, and herbs for my garden every year. Ron and Karen and their staff provide top-notch service. They have a corn bin where the kids can play, as well as special activities such as a flower planting cart and a hay maze in the fall. The full parking lot and bustle that is ever present on the weekends speaks to the quality of this business and their popularity in the community. Pros: excellent service, great prices, fun for family Cons: can be crowded more

More Expensive this year 5/15/2010

I have been buying at Frog Pond for many, many years and have always found the quality and pricing of the vegetables and fruit a very good deal.\r \r However, this season and last, prices have risen rather drastically so that I no longer find the frequent drive worth the trip. I will still go to Frog Pond occasionally, but feel that many of the price increases are not justified and I can get better deals locally, without spending gas money on the drive. The quality of the food just isn't the same as it formerly was.\r \r On the plus side, service at this business has always been good. I especially like the fact that young people are hired to assist customers to their cars with items. And yes, I am still amazed at the mathmatical skills of the owner - worth the drive once to lsiten to him add the totals for all the items in his head!\r \r Pros: large variety Cons: pricing increase more

I drive all the way from Connecticut to come here! 3/28/2010

My parents have recently retired to this area, and my mom wanted to take me here....I've been to farmer's markets, there's one every week in the small city near me, but this is NOTHING like that at all!\r \r Where do I start? The baby animals are so adorable, the annuals are beautiful and they stay pretty hearty all summer, the produce is soooo cheap and delicious (i want to learn how to can so I can can some fresh summer fruits and veggies) and the cheese that they have is the BEST I have ever tasted (besides Brie, I love Brie)\r \r The staff is sooo friendly and attentive they answer all of your questions, I think they may even take credit cards as well!\r \r All in all, I can't wait to come back here, I usually make it a once a month trip, can't wait to get my flower boxes started as well.\r \r Oh yeah and if your time is limited (like mine) and don't have the time to plant a flower box, they have these cute containers already planted with pansies and vinca vines. I bought two last summer. One for my porch and one for a neighbor/assistants porch who was watching my cat. They lasted all summer with minimal watering.\r \r PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL STORES AND COME HERE ASAP!\r \r One suggestion too, it would be great to get some Finger Lakes wines in the store as well. I LOVE wines from the Finger Lakes and they're hard to come by here in Connecticut. If this can be done, it would truly be one stop shopping for me. Just a suggestion though :)))) Pros: Fresh produce at cheap prices, beautiful annuals. Cons: NONE! more

frog pond is the best!!! 7/2/2009

This place is like a spa. First you get your produce or animals or plants( sometimes it gets busy) then they take it to the counter and bag it for you. They even have people who carry it to you car for you!! \r But the best part is Ronald (the store owner) adds everything in his head he remmembers everthings price in the whole store!! If you want you can go up and look at the animals. Also there is Karen(the question lady lol) you can ask her anything about the store and she will tell you.But watch out on weekends it gets packed. I recomend this to anyone. Pros: You hardly do any work Cons: It may get a little busy more

Response to Queenogreen 4/14/2009

I am that ""snippy little blonde teenager"" that works at Frog Pond; I remember that day like it was yesterday. That day was a very busy day and the only reason Ron told you the cart couldn't be in there was because you were using a carryout cart not a wagon. Wagons are fine in the building, green carry out carts are not, even if they are half size. Ron meant no harm I'm sure, he was just stressed, and frankly, that's his personality (trust me I know). But just as the others mentioned, he does have a great sense of humor and I'm sure he did mean to hurt your feelings. You could have asked any of the employees for help and I'm sure they would've gladly come to your rescue. You could've simply parked the cart in front of the counter and waited in line. I apologize that you had a bad experience on a hard day but should that really stop you from visiting Frog Pond? Doesn't everyone get frazzled at work? Pros: Price, Quality, Service, Atmosphere more

Love to go to Frog Pond 4/2/2009

We have been doing business with the Frog Pond owners for years. We have bought and sold chickens there. Sold them eggs for resale. And bought our goats there (for a great price)\r \r I have never seen the owners yell at any customers, but I too, wish people would not bring the wagons into the barn.\r \r We use the hand baskets for inside and use the customer counter to pile (and I mean pile! ) our selections on until we are ready to pay. I have never had a problem with this system.\r \r They do have an outside counter for wagonload purchases.\r \r Yes the owners can seem stern, but they are keeping track of everything while adding up orders in their heads! (which is amazing to watch)! There is definetly a humorous side to them too.\r \r I dont like to go when its crowded so I do my best to go at more unpopular times. Pros: Great prices on produce and plants Cons: crowded more

Great Place 3/31/2009

We just love Frog Pond. Nothing more to say about it. Yes, we realize the owner is ""stern"" but we witnessed his lighter side. Farmers are known mostly by their serious nature and this is his personality. Not to mention his phenomenal ability to add all that stuff up in his head. It always brings a smile when I hear him spewing off those prices faster than any calculator. All of our trips have been positive and we eat the most delicious, natural produce all summer into the fall. Fall being My favorite time for veggies, and my husband's summer for those tomatoes and peaches. Pros: Prices Prices Prices Quality Quality Quality Cons: wish we next door more

Gotta Love Shopping at Frog Pond 8/24/2008

When I started visiting Frog Pond I was a transplant from VA who had grown up on a farm with fresh produce popping out of our ears. Knowing that nothing tastes as good as homegrown, but not having time to grow it all myself, I was anxious to find a place that I could shop and get what I wanted. One of my new neighbors told me about Frog Pond, and I fell in love. Not only are the prices more reasonable than most grocery stores, guests are encouraged to sample it as they walk around. The homey atmosphere and constant bustling are wonderful. While I admit it can get crowded, (and I don't like crowds at all), I've found a system that works. I grab a wagon, park it, then walk around the store grabbing a few things at a time and taking them back to ""base"". When I'm done, I pull my wagon into line and there is always a helpful someone around help me unload it onto the counter until it's paid for, then bag it and help me out to my car. \r \r I will admit that the owner does seem rather stern at first, but as I've returned many times a summer, for many summers now, I have found that I like that sternness - it reminds me of the people I was surrounded with when I grew up. No nonsense farmers, with a serious attitude about their business on top and a wonderful sense of humor underneath. I'm a regular there now, buying hundreds of dollars worth of produce every summer to can. \r \r Nothing makes my week like a trip to Frog Pond. I'm glad I found it, and I'm glad that they are doing so well. I would hate to have to give up my trips to their wonderful store. Pros: Atmosphere, service, food quality, prices Cons: A little crowded unless you time it well. more

great place to shop 7/26/2008

I have been going to the Frog Pond for many years. The owners are wonderful people. I am sorry that Queenogreen got so upset. BUT if you have ever been there you KNOW that those carts do NOT fit in the building, you end up ramming it into people legs causing harm. The owners always come to the outside counter and ring out customers that have a cart. and being as you go there as much as you say, you should have known this. Slamming them is just making you look like a mean person with a bad attitude. \r Yes, it is a popular place to shop and people drive hours to go there, so I don't think you and your family not going there is going to hurt business one bit. I personally will continue to go there and eat delicious fresh fruit for the remainder of the summer. I have many online friends that have shopped there and they drive from all over NY state to go there. Pros: close, inexpensive, fresh , friendly service Cons: very crowded more

Utter Chaos, rude owner, great prices 7/19/2008

I have been going there for several years now, and have watched it transform from a small petting zoo and produce stand into this million dollar a year industry. The prices have always been great, which is probably why I was willing to drive a half-hour each way to get there. Lately, it has become so overcrowded that it is nearly impossible to get a parking space. Items are set up too close together, and it is too cluttered to move through with ease. Carts are available for use, but God forbid, if you use one, fill it up with merchandise, and try to take it inside to pay for it. Today I tried that, and the owner stopped what he was doing and yelled at me in a very loud voice saying ""You can't bring that cart in here!"" I was completely embarassed, as everyone was looking at me like I was a freak. Other people had their carts inside, and were using them to drag their kids around, but I was told to get the cart out through the back door by a snippy little blonde teenager. This meant I had to carry all of my items in by hand even though I had a lot and it was heavy (2 large hanging baskets, 2 watermelons, peppers, lemons, etc.) I paid for my stuff, and left in tears. I will never return. Things might cost more at a retail store, but at least you don't get yelled at for bringing your cart through the line. Frog Pond needs to remember that consumers always have a choice. My entire extended family won't be returning, and that amounts to several thousands of dollars a year in lost revenue to them. The customer should always leave feeling good about their experience, not crying because they were yelled at and embarassed. I would rather drive three hours down to Amish country, where produce is even cheaper, and the folks respect their customers. Pros: cheap produce Cons: limited parking, overcrowded, owner yells at people more

GOT TO GO! 6/4/2008

FANTASTIC! Take the kids the neighbors, family and friends. Wonderful people and reasonable prices. Fresh foods and beautiful plants. Oh yea, check out the animals too! Pros: prices Cons: just a little out of the way, cash only more
