Best

I have been eating here off and on for years. This place has the best food ever!! They make their own bread crumbs fresh! The jagerschnitzel is the best I've had since I was in...

Worst

I took my family here because I had bought a Groupon and love German food, had heard good things about the place, so thought I would try it. Called ahead to make sure we could use...

Service was terrible (our waiter was 6/3/2012

Service was terrible (our waiter was slow, inattentive, and forgetful). The food was about on par with Applebee's. The building is pretty neat, but the tables are diner-like and crammed up against each other (no privacy at all). Our $85 meal was no better than a $45 elsewhere, and even if we had paid $45 for this somewhere else, it wouldn't have been satisfying enough to go back. more

The best european food in town!!! 5/22/2012

I have been eating here off and on for years. This place has the best food ever!! They make their own bread crumbs fresh! The jagerschnitzel is the best I've had since I was in Germany. They use veal instead of pork, and it literally melts in your mouth!!!! They top that off with the best mushroom gravy I've ever had!! The service is awesome and friendly, they make you feel at home. I love the hospitality. I have never had a bad experience here. The food always tastes fresh. I love the lamb pirogues, stuffed cabbage and borscht soup and potato salad and red cabbage and Albanian salad and....ok I love freaking nearly every thing on the menu!!!! Including the three cheese spread! Oh and don't forget the Oktoberfest and Bitters(dry, not sweet for me). The lady that owns this place is awesome and she goes to great lengths to ensure the food is authentic and top quality!!!! Again, I've never had a bad experience and I've been dining here off and on for over ten years. You want European cuisine this is the place to go!!!!!!!!! more

Poor service, overpriced food. 5/12/2012

I took my family here because I had bought a Groupon and love German food, had heard good things about the place, so thought I would try it. Called ahead to make sure we could use the Groupon on a Saturday night and was told we could but that it would be an hour before we could come in because they were busy. Was quoted a time of one hour from when I was called. When we arrived, the woman said our name was not on the list (?! What happened with the information I gave over the phone when they wanted to verify everything I had told them?) but added us and told us we could sit down and wait. About 15 minutes later we got a seat. 25 minutes went by before our presence was even acknowledged to take our drink order. After our drinks were brought, 15 more minutes passed before the waiter took our dinner order. By the time we got our food we had been sitting at the table for over an hour and a half. Portion sizes were small for the price, and for the amount of time we waited and the overall experience, I would rate this 2 stars. I won't give it a 1 because the food was decent (although, as stated, overpriced), but I definitely will not be back to European Bistro. Disappointed to say the least. more

European Bistro 9/4/2010

My husband and I have been fans of European foods for many years, as we like to try cuisines of different cultures. We were disillusioned by the rigidness of the local restaurants and the unfriendly service by the hired staff, where the quality of food items has always been below standard, even if they actually served the menu item that we ordered. So, you understand the reason of our excitement when we heard about the European Bistro of Pflugerville for the first time, from an acquaintance during the July 4th celebration, on Fort Hood. The man, who brought this restaurant to our attention was Hungarian like myself and loved tasty food and good service. A few days later, my husband and I were on our way to the European Bistro with high expectations and empty stomachs. The staff of the European Bistro welcomed us in a friendly manner and with smile, which by the way, have never disappeared. The food was simply delicious and reminded me of Hungary. We had the opportunity to relax while listening to Hungarian songs or live piano music. The food was absolutely delicious, because the seasonings were chosen to complement each other and, most importantly, the entire meal was made on site, even the breadcrumbs as opposed to the every-day restaurants, where everything is ready-to-make, the kitchen staff just have to heat up the ingredients, and there you go? Of course, it took a little longer for our food to be prepared than it would have taken in an average American restaurant. We did not mind the waiting time, because we know that it takes time to make good food. By the time we finished our dinner, we felt relaxed and happy not realizing that the time flew by. The owner took time to talk to us, as she usually talks to all patrons, to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction. When we left the restaurant, we knew that we were going to come back as we do every other week. The European Bistro is in an easy-to-find location, even if you do not live in Austin. We recommend the European Bistro to those people, who want quality food and quality service. Leslie & Andrea Otto, Killeen, Tx more

A wonderful experience 8/23/2010

John and I had dinner at the European Bistro on Saturday night and the entire dinner and evening was far beyond what we expected. The service was very attentive. The chef came out to greet us just prior to the owner stopping by our table to ask about our dinner. The waiter was very helpful in helping us select our entrees and the prior courses. The starter was just what I hoped for, I cannot remember the name, but it was a Hungarina wanton. The second item was the most wonderful cucumber salad, my husband is going to attempt to replicate it for me. My husband is still talking about his dinner, a combination of duck liver and red cabbage. I am not a fan of liver, he is, and he is still talking about it to his friends. I will give you a quote from him, "" the combination of flavors in this dish were incomparable....if was a feast for the palate. I think he will be trying to figure this one out until he goes back and stands in the kitchen while they prepare it. more

Lovely interior 7/14/2010

As soon as I walked in I could not help, but notice how beautiful the interior was. I felt like I was back in Europe again. It was so beautiful that I could not help, but to think of my times in Europe. The food was so good. My sister took me out for my birthday and I could not be happier at that moment. I am a big fan of different styles of food and this place was great. The owner came and talked to us and I enjoyed our conversation. I started out with an appetizer 1 made from lamb and the other from beef. Both were great. My main course was a meal made from veal and I loved it. We had a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal thoroughly. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Pros: Beautiful interior along with great tasting food Cons: Menu is kinda small more

One of our faves... 7/7/2010

My husband, who is hungarian born and raised, introduced me to this place a few years ago and we make it a point to get there as much as possible. Food is always great, only place of we know to get certain hungarian wines and it's very well priced. The cucumber salad is excellent and my husband loves the cheese strudel. He says it's almost as good as his grandmother's and he will specifically request it when making a reservation (recommended for the weekends) to make sure they have it. She made a fresh one just for us last time we were in. Pros: great food, specials, cheese strudel!, wine, well priced Cons: always a little slow to take drink order more

A Perfect Evening 1/6/2010

Visiting Austin from Seattle, we searched to find something other than steak and ribs. We feel fortunate to have found the European Bistro. The 25 minute drive to Pflugerville was straightforward and well worth the time. The borscht was heavenly and the German potato salad was the best I ever had! The pork shank and salmon entrees were done to perfection and the apple strudel dessert topped off a perfect evening. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and pleasant to converse with. The owner stopped by and proved knowledgeable about the cuisine and was delightful to talk to. This dining experience will be one we'll long remember. Pros: Excellent food, service and ambiance more

Wonderful Hungarian Restaurant 11/12/2009

What a wonderful restaurant! The Hungarian recipes taste just like my mother use to make, full of flavor and cooked perfectly! I love the old-world ambiance, especially the paintings and the Hungarian music. I've been twice, driving up from Houston, and it was well worth the trip each time. The wait staff are friendly and efficient; the owner is interesting and fun to talk to, and the chef is a dream come true!! Pros: Excellent food! Cons: None. more
