Best

I have been eating here off and on for years. This place has the best food ever!! They make their own bread crumbs fresh! The jagerschnitzel is the best I've had since I was in...

Worst

I took my family here because I had bought a Groupon and love German food, had heard good things about the place, so thought I would try it. Called ahead to make sure we could use...

For those who have not yet eaten at European Bistro, a great dining experience awaits you. The food is absolutely delicious, and that applies to every dish we've tried. We have been dining there for five years with no increase of price during that entire time. Pros: Food Taste, Quality, Price and Service. more

Wonderful, had 20th B-day there tonight. 5/23/2009

This food is really really amazing. The Hungarian food here is fantastic, as agreed to by my Hungarian born and raised bf. They are super friendly, and made a wonderful atmosphere for my 20th B-day. Both my American family and my Hungarian bf love this place. I will be back many many times! Pros: Amazing food, caring staff, good prices for a fancy meal. Cons: Doesn't deliver :P more

Save room for dessert! 5/22/2009

A hidden gem in the Pflugerville/Austin area! Nice atmosphere and friendly waitstaff. Great place to go for traditional German cuisine. The desserts are AMAZING (especially the apple strudel and the German chocolate cake)! Will definitely come back! more

Worth a trip from South Austin 5/10/2009

With the new toll road done, Pflugerville is only 1/2 hour from Buda, via 130. Exit Pecan St. We have been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed. Hungarian and German food is true comfort food. We recommend the Albanian Salad, the cherry soup, the deep fried mushrooms, the borscht, any of the entrees, the house wine is Hungarian, but other wines are also available. The special is always great. All their foods are wonderful. Try the Tokaj wine with dessert. The Eastern European culture is wonderful, but still undiscovered, and this is a great place to sample it. This restaurant is family-owned, and part of the family grows all their peppers, back in Hungary. When you come here, you're part of the family, too! Pros: Friendly staff. Treat you like family. Cons: Can't think of any. more

Great Valentines Day dinner 3/26/2009

The following is an e-mail sent to European Bistro about our Valentine's Day dining experience, Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2009 12:43 PM Subject: Re: European-Bistro Anna, My wife, Shari and I had a great time at your restaurant. The wait staff gave us great service that night. We enjoyed talking to the other couples and drinking wine while waiting to be seated. No complaints from us, just our compliments to the chef and your staff for great food and service. I am very happy that you have such a fine establishment serving Hungarian food.. It was a real treat to find European Bistro in Tx being that I am half Hungarian. The musician was fantastic - I asked her to play a chardas and the songs reminded me of my childhood. Thanks again for a fantastic evening!! Joe & Shari My wife and I had a great time and the food was wonderful. European Bistro is highly recommended. more

Way overpriced for the quality and service--Valentine's Day, 2009 2/15/2009

I had been to the European Bistro several years ago when it first opened and was impressed. So when I got an email about their Valentine's Day special, I thought it would be a unique dinner for us. We reserved early online and got a call back twice and confirmed our reservations by phone. It was much to our surprise then when we arrive for an early dinner at 6:30 that they had apparently been lost. After a half hour wait (along with several other couples) we were seated. It took an eternity to be served (2 hours in all) and the food was unremarkable. The appetizer a salmon pate' was served with too few bread sticks to really appreciate it. The cream of asparagus soup was good, but not outstanding. My lamb was overdone (the red cabbage was excellent) and my wife's salmon was palatable, but unexceptional even though the sauce was unusual. We had to ask to get our dessert and the bill was extraordinary with the gratuity already added in--an affront to our dining sensibilities--$258 for two people--we did have champagne to be fair. Interestingly people who order the steak seemed to be served much faster than other entrees. As the place was full, we assumed the owner made enough to pay for her next trip to Hungary. There was a definite shortage of wait staff (we counted 4 waiters for over 20 tables) and our waiter was doubling as the manager. The accordion player was very good--a bright spot of the evening and decor of the restaurant was definitely romantic and interesting. Our overall feeling--a ripe candidate for a ""Kitchen Nightmare"" episode. Pros: Decor and ambiance Cons: poor service, overdone or mediocre food more

Not suggested for special night or event 12/18/2008

Had tried this spot for lunch and was pleased with interesting food. Called and made reservations for a birthday dinner. Owner made suggestions for flowers, table, birthday banner...I accepted suggestions and plans. Arrived for dinner...no knowledge of reservations noted. Waited an eternity for a table to be made available. Two stale, drooping, pink roses in tacky vase for male's birthday was put together at last second. (should have been red roses). Birthday banner? printed out (on dot matrix ?) then taped together. Service was poor, slow. Food was good but the night was soured. Disappointing. Will not be returning. more

Wonderful Experience 9/21/2008

After having heard and read about The European Bistro, we finally had an opportunity to go there this past weekend and we were extremely impressed. It is much easier to get to and closer to Austin than we had realized. We went with a large party and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The wait staff was professional and attentive. More than half the party were children and the wait staff was very good with them as well. The waiter recommended a sampling of appetizers that were happily passed around. Given the size of our group we had a pretty good cross section of everything on the menu and everyone was content. Fortunately, we had saved room for dessert and those were excellant as well. We heartily recommend The European Bistro and intend to return often. more

The Best Get Away Restaurant in Town 7/24/2008

Do you want private get away, causal atmosphere, and tasty food with a European flare? Then the European-Bistro is your best bet. The food is different but filled with traditional flavor. Desserts melt in your mouth and go great with a fresh cup of coffee, espresso or fruit drink. The atmosphere is filled with history dating back to the 1800s. This is Pflugerville's best hidden secret for food beyond the hassle of downtown Austin's warehouse district. Reservations are reccommeded but not necessary. The Hungarian Sister will make you feel at home and treat you as their own family member. more

Amazing beef gulyas and spaetzle 6/1/2008

I love the building this restaurant is in. We went for lunch on saturday and there was only one other group there, it was dark and a little too quiet in there but the food was to die for. We ordered the beef gulyas with a side of spaetzle....yummm! Amazingly tender, melt in your mouth good...but soo lean. It was wonderful, I also has a garden salad with homemade tomato basil vinagarette which was soo unique and tasty. To be honest, i think the decor is out of date, bordering on tacky, but its obvious that they are going for a romantic, higher-end ambiance. The food made up for this, however, it was wonderful. Our server was very knowlegable and farmilliar with the menu and friendly enough, maybe slightly snooty, but not rude. We were too full for dessert but they had some delicious looking crepes and strudle...I will try them in the future. Overall...don't let the decor deter you...the food is worth it. I think we went at an off time of day, so it wasnt crowded...I dont know how it would be at dinner. Pros: Amazing food, unique culturally diverse menu Cons: bad decor more

  • At European bistro we offer you, not only food, but history, culture and tradition that built the tall columns of the European panache. We offer you everything- from spicy Hungarian food to creamy Russian soups, from Austrian pastries to German austerity and dishes from several countries.
