Best

I have been eating here off and on for years. This place has the best food ever!! They make their own bread crumbs fresh! The jagerschnitzel is the best I've had since I was in...

Worst

I took my family here because I had bought a Groupon and love German food, had heard good things about the place, so thought I would try it. Called ahead to make sure we could use...

Authentic 3/16/2008

My husband and I visited the restaurant on a Thursday night. We were the only patrons for about an hour. We were served by a very cordial young man, who remembered serving our friend, who had recommended the Bistro. My husband and I had the homemade bread with the cheese spread, an outstanding cucumber salad, potato dumplings with the hunter sauce(marvelous) and wienerschitzel, (too much breading and not enough schnitzel), but tasty. The atmosphere is great and we loved the historic building. We have not found this quality food, since the original German-American restaurant closed at Buchanan Dam. Pros: outstanding food Cons: Pricey more

GREAT 15th ANNIVERSARY!!! 11/8/2007

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last weekend, and it was incredible. It was our first time in, and he wanted to surprise me with a German restaurant (I grew up in Bavaria). They had a special area you can use for anniversaries and such, and it was very romantic (dimmed lights, candles, rose petals...lovely). We had a great German champagne for not much more than a bottle of wine. My husband and I split their salad sampler (LOVE the Albanian!!) and the Potato Dumplings, which were a treat. We then had the Borscht and Gulyas soups and for dinner my husband had the Roast Duck with the Hungarian salsa (which was really tasty). It was an entire half of a duck, so he had to take a lot home! I had the Schweine Hoxe which came with Mashed Potatoes with Onions. It was INCREDIBLE! The pork was so tender, it just fell off the bone, and the skin was perfectly crispy. For dessert, my husband convinced me, and we splurged and split the Chestnut Cake and the Cheese Strudel. As much as I resisted, I'm really glad we did - they were awesome! The evening was a little bit pricey, but it was well worth it!! I'll definitely be going back again - SO GLAD to have a great German restaurant in the area. Pros: Ambiance, Food Quality, Service Cons: We didn't want to leave!! more

Avoid This Restaurant - It is horrible 11/1/2007

It was my wifes birthday and I wanted to surprise her and take her to a new restaurant for a new experience. At first, I thought this would be a great experience because the building (inside and out) is very charming and the perfect place for a romantic dinner. We waited about 10 minutes and the server came to our table and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered a glass of wine, glass of beer, bread and potato dumplings and our main course. After another 10 minutes the server brought our drinks and bread (this was the best part of the meal except for the quantity of wine, which was a small glass filled half full). Then the real wait started..... 10 minutes, then 20 minutes, then 30 minutes. Finally after 35 minutes our meal arrived with no appetizers (the potato dumplings). We advised the server and she said it was not her fault, that it did'nt print out in the kitchen. She advised us that she would comp our bread order. Now for the meal, my wife ordered the special (beef tips in sauce) that was recommended by the server and I order the veal schnitzel. The food was at best poor to average. The fest part of the meal was the beer, which was good. When we received our bill (over $86.00), the bread was not comped. As my wife said, it is the thought that counts. more

Best borscht & desserts 6/10/2007

I was raised on traditional Polish food and I found this restaurant serving food that is the closest to what I ate in ""Poletown"" Detroit, Michigan. I had the Mushroom Crepes, my husband had the Cordon Bleu. Our guests sampled the salads and had the goulash. We loved the ambience with the accordian player and her beautiful voice. The service was very nice. We will go there often. Pros: Service & Food Cons: Wasn't very busy for a Sunday night. We felt special, but lonely as the only table for an hour. more

Well you are all blowing it because you hate to think that Pflugerville ? yup ? Pflugerville simply stops you all dead in your tracks. Try the delightful European Bistro, a little restaurant tucked away on Main Street in the city with the funny first few consonants. Anni and Piroska, the Hungarian sisters, treat you like you were in Europe. No rushing! No hard sell. A warm welcome from Anni, a firm explanation from her son of the available entrees, and you are on your way. Treat yourself to a traditional goulash, or chicken paprikash, or if you are simply dying to find the perfect cordon bleu or schnitzel, look no farther. This is the best European fare to be found anywhere in this area. Pros: Terrific cuisine. European Atmosphere. No rushing!!! more

Best Hungarian Goulash 1/25/2007

I just recently dined at the European-Bistro for dinner and fell in love with the restaurant, the food and the owner! I had fresh bread with farmer's cheese spread, marinated beet salad, sour cherry soup and Hungarian Goulash with spaztel. All of it was wonderful, authentic, and delicious The waitress was friendly and served the food promptly. The paintings on the wall were gorgeous and you really feel like you are in Hungary. Shirley Johnson was there and played the accordian as well as sing. She sings in several different languages and sounds like an angel in all of them. Anni, the owner, came by my table to ask if everything was alright and to make sure that I sign their guest book. Every New Year's Eve she gives away 1 week at her family's Budapest Condo for up to four guests. Transporation is up to the winner but her sister picks you up and takes you back to the airport. I received a business card with $5 off the next time I come in provided that i bring a guest. My husband and I plan to be there soon. Reservations are required for the weekend. I highly recommend this place. It has to be Pflugervile's best kept secret. more

SLOW SERVICE 9/30/2006

Let me say this don't ever go here if you have to be somewhere else. The service was very friendly but HORRIBLE! It was soooo slow we were convinced it was our waiter's first night. The table next to us actually walked out because no one greeted them after 10 minutes! As for the food..the beef pierogies were awesome and the sourcream & dill sauce was awesome. I had my chicken schnitzel again and I asked for mushroom gravy and well I didn't get mushroom gravy, I got some other sauce, even though I was charged for mushroom gravy. We were in arush to get to the movie so there was no point in complaining. more

Authentic Eastern European Food! 9/27/2006

My wife and I are German, so we know real German and Hungarian Food. And I have to tell you this is the real deal. We both started with the Fried Cauliflowers for appetizers, which were crispy and delicious, followed by a cup of the Gulyas Soup that tasted just like my own mom would make it. My wife then had the Jaegerschnitzel with Spaetzle, and I treated myself to the Roasted Duck with Potatoes. Both dishes tasted delicious and authentic, and the portions were very generous. Pros: Great Food, Great Service. Great for any occasion. more
