Just too disorganized! 5/16/2011

I am sorry to say we will be changing vets. This place is just too disorganized. They are very nice, but it is dirty and cramped and needs some major organization. I called to check on the registration for my dog's microchip and Dearborn never sent in the registration information. I was not surprised by this...that is why I called myself to check on it and make sure my dog was registered. The check-in and check-out process is just painfully disorganized and slow. They will have to get better organized or I'm afraid they will lose all of their clients. more

Awesome! 3/19/2011

I only had a minor problem with my cat...1.5 year old ragdoll ""Buddy""- last week I had my cat neutered with Catsnips (whom I LOVE)...they informed me that my Buddy had round worms- Dearborn charged $35 for the office visit and $10 for the deworming med...as I went to pay I realized that I left my debit card in some pants pockets that I did not have on (residual effects of too much st. patty's day fun)- they had no problem with me leaving to go get my card- they didnt take my cat (or daughter) as collateral :) they even allowed me to take the medicine with me! THe staff was very friendly and awesome!! Ive read some other reviews and just want to say...when people loose a pet their opinions will often be negative...1 review is negative BUT they used the clinic FOR YEARS prior....im just saying! more

Very Disappointed in Dearborn 3/11/2011

I'm grieving and mourning the loss of my wonderful dog, Ivan. So, I hope I'm not too harsh. Though, I believe in my heart that he would be here today if he got the care and attention he needed. I rushed my sick dog to Dearborn, who we've used for years. I thought he would have been moved up in the queue due to the nature of his illness, but I waited a very long time. The vet who saw us examined him didn't find that my concerns were anything to worry about. They took his blood, and it came back within an hour. He was anemic and deficient in calcium, and his red blood cell count was low. It was an indicator that he was losing blood. She ordered more tests and sent us on our way. Our dog died 30 minutes after we got home. We suspect he had blood clots which caused cardiac arrest. While I don't want to blame anyone for his death. I really believe Ivan's fate would have been different had we gone to a more professional, organized vet. We were promised a phone call the following day to get the second part of the test results. They failed to call us. Also, they misplaced records from my other dog. I'm at the angry stage of my grief, and I'm grateful he didn't suffer for long. But I am utterly disappointed in Dearborn, and their lack of attention to detail. We ended up working with the Village Vets on North McDonogh street. They treated us with so much respect and compassion. more

THE BEST VETERNARIAN IN GEORGIA 9/3/2010

Dr. Ellington was like a best friend when my 2 Boxers died last year. She was very understanding. When I had questions and left messages for her, she always called me back, even if it was late at night. Her prices are the lowest in town. She even sent me sympathy cards when they passed. I wish that she could be my regular Dr. I would recommend her to anyone that has a beloved pet! more

Grossly unprofessional. And just plain GROSS! 8/16/2010

Okay, so after waiting for a bit over an hour to be seen,(for a toe nail clipping on our cat, and to look at a little infection, or ingrown nail), my girlfriend and my self were escorted to an examination room by a tech. On the exam table are numerous dirty sutures that have been left over from a previous pet.We have to request that it be cleaned, which the tech does with a bottle of windex, then attempts to proceed without even washing her hands. At which point, my girlfriend and I look at each other, completely mortified. Then, before we can even say anything, another tech barges into the room with a dog in her arms, and says, ""I need this room."" Again,we're mortified. Then, our tech takes us into an adjacent room, which is not an examination room at all, but a stock room, with pallets of food in it, and requests that one of us holds our cat so she can proceed with looking at his toe and cutting his nails. Right there. In a stockroom. After looking at his toe, she then sends us back into the waiting room to wait and see a doctor. We sat back down for a second, before we decided to run for dear life, before our cat catches some disease(s). Or before we do! So we go up to the front desk, to let the receptionist know we are leaving, and are completely ignored by the sleepy-or-stoned-looking tennager at the desk. If there is a Doctor reading this, who is at all concerned, I sincerely hope that you invest some time to speak with your staff about a few basic things. Thank you for reading, I'm going to go take a bath in bleach, and incinerate my clothes now. more

Great Vet Clinic 7/12/2010

We have been very happy with Dearborn. I recently took my cat on a Saturday morning at 9am with no appointment; there were 6 people in front of me but I was still out the door by 10. I commented on the quick service to the vet and was told it depends on the type of cases they have. These vets spend time with your pet, not just rushing in and rushing out of the room. So if there is a pet who needs a lot of attention they will do that. When I have a long wait I just tell myself someone else's pet is getting really good care and I'd want the same for my babies. I really liked Dr Ellington, she was super considerate and caring. I liked it that she took an ear swab and looked at it under a microscope right there in the same room. This place is really laid back; the vet took a phone call during my visit, a clinic worker came in and out a couple of times. None of these things bothered me in the least and I enjoy the family feel of Dearborn. It's not as fancy as some of the intown vets but it's very reasonable. At least you're not paying for the decor or any BMWs in the parking lot. We took our dog to to Briarcliff for a limp, they did an exam, took one x-ray and gave us some pills and it was $500. Our visits to Dearborn usually run in the $80 range (although only two visits so far). The surgery that Briarcliff wanted $450-$600 for (removal of cyst) will be $250 at Dearborn. The only slightly negative thing I'd say is the waiting room is small and if there are more than 6 or 7 dogs it can get crowded. There was an aggressive dog in the waiting room when I was there but the owner did take it outside whenever another dog came in. I had a cat in a carrier so it wasn't a big deal. The staff was very friendly when I was there. Pros: Great vets and reasonable prices Cons: small waiting area more

dearborn animal hospital 5/22/2010

I have been coming to Dearborn since the eighty's. The late Dr. Jackson took care of my ""Nikki"" from a stray at 6 weeks, through a car accident on Columbia Dr. until his death many years later. Dr. Ellington now takes care of our mix from the pound. I believe the staff problems have improved alot (per my last visit this week 5-21-10). Dr. Ellington was open and available to listen to my concerns regarding the experience at the front desk. \r I have never boarded my dog because she is afraid of storms and they do not have night staff. \r PS They are in great need of newspaper and old clean towels! Pros: great doctors and assistants Cons: have had sad experience with one of front desk staff more

Avoid the boarding service 5/17/2010

I boarded my cat here. When I got him home, I found he had an open place on his nose that obviously needed treatment. No one told me about this! I called and was placed on hold for a very long time - I think the hope was that I would give up and hang up. But, I didn't. I was told that the sore was caused by my cat rubbing his nose against the cage. Ok, so they knew about the sore. When I asked how to treat it, I was huffily told to use Neosporin . Hmmm... I wonder if I will be going back here... Not likely! Cons: poor communication more

No Thanks 2/2/2010

This hospital may be cheap but you get what you pay for. Pros: cheap Cons: not organized or professional more

Dearborn Animal Hospital is good for the basics but.... 1/8/2010

I've learned if you are looking for drive thru pet care I would recommend them for the basics. Otherwise...I would suggest taking your furry family member to a more professional and caring hospital. My experience on Tuesday November 24th, if you can get past the sourpuss (and I don't mean a cat) at the front desk, over the holidays was talking to FOUR different doctors in the same day about my dogs issues. After waiting 50 minutes as a emergency walk in I got to see a doctor. I've been a client of Dearborns for about 8 years with my dogs. This was my first time needing emergency assistance and I will never go back. The entire staff was more concerned with their holiday schedules and shut down than their patients. After being in an out twice with my dog and talking to them on the phone, IN THE SAME DAY, I never got to see or talk to the same doctor. I had to explain my pets problems over and over to four different doctors; again, I have to stress, in the same day! They couldn't even re more

I had to explain my pets problems over and over to four different doctors; again, I have to stress, in the same day! They couldn't even read each others writing on the charts for medications that they already had given my dog. They suggested I monitor her for two days since they would be closing a half a day the day before Thanksgiving and would be closed on Thanksgiving and to bring her back on Friday if she wasn't any better. My dog suffered for the two days just for me to bring her back to them on Friday and then to tell me to take her to the GVS. That should have been their first suggestion the first day I brought her in to see them and they could not figure out what was wrong with her. I hope they figured out their holiday schedules! I wish I would have known about the GVS first. They GVS diagnosed what was wrong with her and after attempting several times to help and assist her we wound up losing our baby of 15years. After having to put our beloved baby down, we received several cards AND phone calls from the GVS staff stating their sympathy for our loss. Hmmmm....do you think we got a call or a card from one of the four veterinary doctors from Dearborn to see how she was doing? I'll let you guess. Yes, Dearborn she is better and doing well in heaven...! Pros: Good for the basics, but...... Cons: Lack of emergency care and ANY follow up! more

Caring and compassionet care for all my pet over 10 yrs 10/26/2009

They have cared for all my pets and rescue pets for over 10 years. A great group of doctors and Dr Ellington always finds a way to take time to be thorough despite a busy practice. I always make an appointment. but have received the same great care when I've had unscheduled emergency visits. Pros: Caring , very competent, fare pricing Cons: No in house emergency night and wk-end more

wonderfully caring and compassionate 9/4/2009

We have taken our cats for about a dozen visits. We especially like Dr Carol Tobias, but Dr Linda Ellington has been wonderful also. You are not rushed, they take the time to carefully explain procedures, choices you have, etc. They have talked to me on the phone on more than one occasion to answer my questions. Their fees are reasonable and fair. They are popular! An appointment is recommended. Pros: truly care for the pets and their owners more

Dearborn Animal Hospital gets A+++ 6/13/2009

Awesome vet! We've lived in three cities with our dog so far and Dearborn has been his favorite! He wags his tail when he arrives because the staff is so friendly and loving to him. He got excellent treatment and care and the vets were very helpful to us and informative. Their approach is very personal like your pet is their pet as well. Their charges are very reasonable and affordable as well. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone....they get busy because they are popular so if you have to wait a little remember it's worth the wait! GREAT SERVICE means a lot for your pet! more

Awesome vet with personal service 6/13/2009

Our dog recently had an accident and needed several surgeries. It was a stressful time, but the staff and vets there treated our dog in such a way that you would think it was their dog too which made the whole ordeal a lot easier to get through. He would wag his tail on the way in to this place he loved them so much. They truly care for everyone's pets and want to help you in any way they can - we never felt like another paying customer. The doctors and staff are emotionally involved and very caring for your pet. We are so appreciative for everything they did. Pros: affordable, clean, friendly more

A wonderful animal clinic! 5/13/2009

Extremely affordable and the vets there are great. They do not rush your pet through like an assembly line. No wonder there is always a line at the door in the morning before they open! Sometimes there is a wait but it is worth it as you never feel ripped off here. more

didn't care at all for dr. ellington 3/28/2009

i have a feeling all of you will change your minds. dr. jackson made that clinic the place it is. once he's gone for good, the new owner/vet is going to realize you have to have more than knowledge to keep clients. i wouldn't trust my sweet animals with the likes of her. she's not a very nice person. Pros: she is nasty Cons: rude, snarky more

Dr. Ellington is wonderful. 2/4/2009

My 16 year old cat was on his last day & my usual vet was not available. I heard good things about Dr. Ellington & called & went in. She was kind, intelligent and compassionate. I will continue to take all my pets there. Highly recommend them. more

fantastic 9/5/2008

Even though I was not an existing customer, they let me walk in without an appointment, the staff is friendly, professional and courteous. I had already taken my dog to my vet, but was not comfortable with their recommendations or the high cost of the services they recommended, over $350. Dr Cely is great, she took care of my dog, made the proper diagnosis and it only cost $60. Needles to say, I had my dog's vet history faxed from Village Vets to Dearborn that same day. They made a believer out of me. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any one that loves their pet. more
