Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto...

The drink here are amazing and not a bad price for the west hollywood area. Food isn't bad either. Service was a bit slow for us but the waiters were friendly and kept us updated. more

Dates in Bacon, Blueberry Lemonade Sangria... What else is there to ask for 10/10/2008

I tried this restaurant for the first time last year at the recommendation of a friend. I have since introduced many of my friends to it. The atmosphere is great, the food excellent, the staff friendly. My friends and I have tried many of the dishes on the menu. Some of our favorites include the dates in bacon, steak a lo pobre, paella valencia, piquillos, and risotto-balls. And don't forget the sangria! I'm partial to the blueberry lemonade sangria but the peach white wine sangria is also very good. Parking can be a little scarce but before you park a hike away from the restaurant, try the Collar and Leash parking lot (I was just there last night and they've put up more No Parking signs in there but look for a couple of unmarked spots and you're good to go). The restaurant can get busy and I'm not sure if they don't have enough waiters or what but I noticed that the last few times I've been there our waiter went MIA. We finished eating dinner around 10:15 and didn't see our waiter for a good half hour until I finally tracked him down for our check. Granted, waiting for the check is hardly obnoxious while enjoying the last glass of sangria but the fact that this wasn't the first time I experienced this kinda makes me wonder what's going on. MIA waiters aside, I highly recommend The Courtyard. Pros: food, ambience, friendly staff Cons: Parking can be tricky, MIA waiters more

You get what you pay for. 10/7/2008

Ya, that's right... You get what you pay for! It's never been a more true statement than for The Courtyard restaurant. You get a great environment, fabulous service, and quality food. I've been here a few times traveling to Southern California, it's a great stop to make coming off the 101. The parking was a little chaotic, but I plan on coming back here again and again. Pros: The tapas are to die for. I know that's cliche, but I would really die to eat these.. they are that good. Cons: Nada. I really can't think of one reason why this place would have a down side. Perfect service, great quality food every time. more

Great Food and Excellent Service 8/21/2008

My Husband and I were staying at the Ramada down the street, we were looking for a cute, close place to enjoy Breakfast. it looked a bit empty, which concerned me at first. I ordered the French toast, coffee and my husband had the All American Breakfast, 3 eggs that INCLUDED coffee! great deal! The food was EXCELLENT! the french toast was nothing like I had ever tasted! It was dipped in cornflakes and topped with bananas and blueberries, which was amazing! Our server was also, just as amazing, he even went out of his way to ask us how our vacation was. he must of known we were from out of town, I think his name is Drew, I can't remember. He was the only one working. This place is the best kept secret! Next time my husband and I come to LA we will definitely make a stop at the Courtyard!!!! PS. This is the best romantic dinning in LA we have seen! Pros: Food, Service Cons: Location, people need to know about the place! more

Best tapas ever eaten 8/14/2008

texasbecky Provided by Partner
Our party of 7 ate there 3-4 times on our trip last week. Every time we went, there were new things to try. Every dish was better than the last. Their garlic shrimp and bacon-wrapped dates were unbelievably wonderful. We all enjoyed every item there was and shared off each other's plates. I've eaten at other tapas and Spanish restaurants in Houston and this place beats all of those I have tried. The ambience was fabulous every time we went. The waiters and owners were very cordial and the service was excellent. I would fully recommend this restaurant to anyone. What a wonderful idea for something different - I only wish they would open one in the Houston and Southwest Louisiana areas. Pros: all of the above - plus parking was sufficient for area. Cons: We don't have one close enough to us to enjoy. more

Rip Off Central 7/27/2008

My husband wanted to go here and after looking at the menu online we headed over. We ordered lamb chops which were priced at $15.00 and the mussels in a cream sauce with leeks. Sounded good. The atmosphere was very lacking there being only one other table with dinners and this was Sunday afternoon at 1.30. We ordered 2 beers which were served barely cold, accompanied by 2 glasses that were still wet from where they had been run under a tap. This made me wonder how clean they were, and was frankly a turn off. When the food arrived it was a big disappointment. The lamb chops were 2 small pieces of meat on a tiny plate.....no waaaaay worth $15.00. The mussels again a tiny portion were swimming in heavy cream with littl flavour. They were served with some dried up french bagette cut into tiny slices. Service was so slow I had to physically take my credit card to ask for the bill because we were bing tortured by flies on the patio. The bill was $50.00. This was a bad experience that didn't come cheap. I will not be going here ever again. more

I passed this place several times on walks with my friend and finally one day was out with another friend of mine who suggested this place and was like been dying to go here. Fun place, nice little courtyard, great tapas. The thing i remember the most and truly enjoyed was their peach sangria's. Oh my goodness were they good. I don't like normal sangria but these were great !!! more

grease ball!! 5/9/2008

poppycock Provided by Partner
Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto-balls were absolutely disgusting--- we couldn't even finsh them. The Shrimp al Diablo was actually pretty good, but consisted of five shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce.... for $11! The wine list was pathetically short and expensive-- there are so many good and affordable Spanish wines out there that there is no excuse to offer nothing under $8 per glass. The only positive was the ambiance-- the courtyard itself is quite nice. There are lots of better places in LA to get tapas-- try Cobras y Matadors, or Primitivo. Pros: very nice outdoor setting with fountains and plants Cons: GREASY!!!! OVER-PRICED (both food and wine)!!!! more

Paella or Rice-a-Roni 5/6/2008

This was my first experience with Paella. I didn't realize the dish called for a box of Rice-a-Roni and frozen carrots. Nice ambience, fair service, poor food. Pros: ambience, location Cons: average food, poor service more

Still Great 4/15/2008

I have been going to The Courtyard for almost 4 years now and they still are one of my favorites. While other restaurants have come and gone, The Courtyard still has great food, friendly waiters and a nice atmosphere. I wish more places in LA were as solid as this place. I can see why they were rated #1 best small plates and #1 best outdoor dining in all of Los Angeles. more

Really 3/21/2008

Hmmm ... Is this an Italian restaurant or is it Spanish? What is it? Let's start with the wine. The only Spanish varietal offered by the glass didn't have a name. Weird. Whateve. Moving on. The wiater recommended a lot of things as "outstanding" and we ordered them. Beg to differ. The Shrimp Al Diablo was OK--but a little overcooked. The Steak al Pobre was good texturesie, but otherwise flavorless. Also, the menu said it came on a bed of bleucheese and potatoes. The potatoes were chips and where was the bleu cheese? The roasted artichokes were not roasted--straight out of the can. They were swimming in a mess of melted parmesan cheese that had hardened and ham bits. We thought they would just be garnished with the cheese. The best or should I say wors was their version of Pan tomaquet. The bread slices looked like melba toasts and they were not rubbed with tomato, they literally had tomatoe salsa on top! The jamon serrano was PROSCIUTTO and the "chorizo" was, I kid you not--FRIED PEPPERONI and both were garnished with shredded (?) "manchego) it was not manchego, it was maybe store bought parmesan? Not sure what they are going for here. Service was good. But lower your expectations. Pros: Nice patio Cons: the food more

Bad Service...bad food... 2/9/2008

mcomerchero Provided by Partner
Extremely slow service. It took 10 minutes in between each plate and our glasses where constantly empty. The food was flavorless and heavy with oil. The paella was not fully cooked and bland. The ambiance is nice, but the rest of the experience left our party wanting. more

Best Tapas Restaurant in Town... 1/22/2008

musicaljunki Provided by Partner
I am writing this after my 5th visit to the courtyard? As a matter a fact, I signed up with CitySearch just so I could write this review. You could not ask for better food at a great price, especially on Tapas Tuesday when it?s buy 1 get 1 for half off? But don?t let that fool you into thinking that this is some low rent ?running bar specials? kind of joint. It?s fantastic during warm evenings to sit in the courtyard for a relaxed or romantic time, you can find a table for all occasions. And by no means are you missing out by sitting inside. Great ambience, knowledgeable servers and staff, and fantastic food. I have never had anything less than delicious. They also offer a large plate section of the menu for those who want more of a traditional dinner serving. Try it, you will not be disappointed. Pros: parking in the lot next to Collar and Leash more

Best Sangria and Tapas 1/18/2008

Excellent food without the wallet pain 1/16/2008

By the beard of Zeus this place is good. I cannot vouch that they have great customer service because my waiter was nothing special, but everybody else seemed so pleasant and welcoming. I ordered the fish and my friend ordered the steak and both were on the top of my lists of the best of the best. Even if I didn't like fish I would eat this fish. Actually, my girlfriend ordered the steak out of recommendation by th waiter because her original order was out of stock. After, ordering it she said "I don't really like steak," but before tasting it. I guess she like it now. I cannot guarantee that you will get it this good, but I doubt 2 for 2 was not luck. The ambiance and decor was nice, but I would not say that it was amazing or glamorous. I guess it was just fitting because it has very reasonable prices ($12-$25) for moderate proportions. It is comparable to the level of Olive Garden, but more stylish in th sense they had modern art. Honestly, you just have to go here just to give it a shot. It is good. I have already recommended it to three people since yesterday. Pros: Delicous food, peaceful setting, close parking Cons: Not sure more

All around FABULOUSNESS! 12/20/2007

I'm a HUGE fan of The Courtyard! The tapas are delicious (I've never done heroin, but the dates wrapped in bacon are what I imagine it to be like) the sangria is delicious, the atmosphere is so fun and nice, the energy there is GREAT! The staff is friendly, fun and accomodating.... I had our big holiday party there this week and it was a COMPLETE BLAST. It went SO smoothly (without a hitch). Jim, Albert and their staff made me feel so confident and comfortable knowing everything was taken care of. Our guests had an amazing time (still getting emails saying what a fabulous evening it was) and I owe it all to them. TWO HUGE THUMBS UP!!!!! Pros: Happy Hour is FABULOUS, small plates for my short attention span...Great service...etc. Cons: I am hoping they will serve hard alcohol soon. A Grey Goose martini would complement the Steak a lo pobre nicely :) more

excellent spot for a group dinner party 12/19/2007

We held our teacher holiday party at The Courtyard earlier this week , and everyone was so impressed. Despite the other holiday parties happening simultaneously, we all felt well taken care of. From the delicious array of tapas to the superb customer service, our teachers felt welcomed and right at home. With the tapas coming out at various times, it gave teachers who were running late an opportunity to still participate in the whole experience. I overheard many of them say that they wanted to return again on their own. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday party -- thanks to The Courtyard! Pros: ambience, service more

good service, bland food 11/24/2007

aimeedesh Provided by Partner
My boyfriend and I were very excited to explore this "little find" as tapas and wine lovers. The plates were relatively inexpensive, but also greatly disappointing. The bacon wrapped dates--delicious. The artichoke hearts were smothered in a bland white cheese and had tiny ham bits that reminded me of an ingredient in a make-your-own-omelet bar. Scallops are a favorite of mine. The half shell scallops were undercooked while being drenched in fried oil. The rest of the meal was fine, but again...not great. It was such a huge let down. Our server was very nice, and apologetic at the absence of certain menu items. From the looks of the menu, the owners have gotten lazy and not changed it in quite a while. The wine descriptions are meant to be cute--but don't offer any help ("a white wine to bring home to your mother"? are we at TGIF? does that mean its taste is similar to the wine coolers my mom enjoyed when I was 5? either add comments that help, or assume we are better off using our own knowledge) The courtyard itself looks quaint and inviting, but when dining inside, it is overlit with very little charm and an awful mix of your run-of-the-mill mariachi ad nauseum. It is time that restaurant owners do as much for the restaurant as the terrific servers they have hired--change the menu up! Use the best ingredients! Change the wine list! Fine dining does not mean cloth napkins and tea lights! It is attention to detail. This could be a great little spot, if someone put in any effort. Pros: servers do their best, courtyard is nice Cons: lazy menu with limited taste. more

What a Well Kept Secret! 11/7/2007

It's an absolutely charming place. The outside courtyard, you literally feel transported to another place, Seville or New Orleans. I'm so glad I walked by with my boyfriend because we're hooked. It was a cold out, but I didn't feel it between the heaters and the tasty Rioja wine. What a great recommendation from our server. He was adorable and very knowledgeable about the menu. Make sure you get Alejandro. He knew how to be be attentive without hanging out at the table. When the tapas came, it sealed the deal for me. Oh so tasty w/ generous portions. I had the shrimp in a garlic sauce that I would not let the bussers take away from me. I also had a delicious steak that was married with a blue cheese sauce, so yummy. What a romantic night. Well now the secrets out! Go, you won't be disappointed. Pros: The outside courtyard (heaters), Service, Tapas Cons: Beer selection more
