Best

I tried this restaurant for the first time last year at the recommendation of a friend. I have since introduced many of my friends to it. The atmosphere is great, the food excel...

Worst

Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto...

NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!! 4/21/2006

We were seated immediatley but did not get our first dish until 40 minutes later. The food was bland at best. Throughout the evening, we wondered if the next dish was going to be better than the last dish...it did not. Altogether we ordered six dishes, all not a bit satisfying! The selection of wine was alright. Pros: Desert of the Night Cons: Parking, Food, Service more

Probably wouldn't return 4/19/2006

The outdoor courtyard is a great place to sit back and enjoy the sangria. But the sangria is not all that enjoyable. They have some interesting flavors, but all in all, not the best. It is tough to do paella well, and this to me, is just another place that doesn't do it well. I don't even remember the other small dishes we tried, but if it had been memorable, I would've remembered. The service here is great...so if you want a nice atmosphere and to be treated well, you may want to check this place out...but if you want great Spanish food....you may want to consider elsewhere. Pros: Service, Parking lot, Atmosphere Cons: Food more

This place really set the mood for a good memory. I was celbrating with a friend and the experience was only heightened by the delicious food and friendly waitstaff, not to mention their Peach Sangria! Also, this place is permanently logged as "place to bring a date!" FUN TIMES!!! more

food, wine, and conversation 3/6/2006

Great place to come with friends and share food, wine, and conversation. The tapas were so good, the dates, the empenadas, the asparagus, the mushrooms, I can go on and on. I would recomend sitting in "the courtyard". Pros: empenadas, the patio more

TERRIBLE!!!!! SLOWEST SERVICE EVER!!! 2/8/2006

mbellavia Provided by Partner
we waited - no joke - 45 minutes for the first dish to be served and it was 4 shrimp. this is after much prodding and questioning about when the food would arrive and reassurances that it would be any minute. then it took another 20 minutes to get the next dish which was supposed to be a spanish tortilla but was pretty much cold scrambled eggs. we left before getting any of our other food. a total nightmare. avoid this place like the plague! And, no, sing-a-song, i don't own a restaurant. i just know how a customer should be treated. Pros: nothing, nada, zero Cons: slow, sloth-like, lugubrious more

Hidden Treasure 2/5/2006

When reading the reviews of the Courtyard I was shocked to see the negative reviews on it. My only thought...other jealous restaurant owners? Scared of the competition? I think so. I had a great experience while dinning and the food and service was fine. All I can say is try it for yourself and be your own critic. Pros: food, service, ambiance more

I am in Spanish HEAVEN!!! 1/30/2006

I've been to Spain; I've been to Spanish restaurants all over California. I can honestly say The Courtyard has the best tapas I've ever tasted. The red sangria was pretty good, although I think fruit should be soaked in it instead of dropped in at the last minute. The blueberry lemonade was interesting, and good if you like white wine. I would definitely recommend the Mixtas Plate (plate of various crostini) and the seafood paella. I'm definitely going back. Pros: Tapas, Ambience, Easy Parking Cons: Expensive, Slow service, Busy area more

Sangria and Tapas 1/24/2006

We were seated promptly and our server was on top of everything. Understand that tapas come out gradually, unlike a non-tapas sit down place, and you will enjoy the nice atmosphere. I recommend the garlic shrimp and a pitcher of blueberry sangria. Pros: Service, Food Cons: A Bit Pricey, Parking more

great food without forgetting the fun 1/11/2006

My girlfriend made me go to this place, and I got to say while I was unsure at first, it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. The food was great, we tried lots of different things and they were all good, and fun to eat and share. The service was friendly, and everyone really seemed to care how we were doing. The wine list was fun. I see why my girl likes this place so much, thats why I wrote this review, not because she made me.ha ha Pros: food, service, atmoshphere more

holiday fun! 1/1/2006

This place is amazing! We had our corporate holiday party here and we have a very picky group of employees and everyone rated it a 10. After the food, the service was the best part. They have satellite radio and so we had our selection of any music we wanted and that coupled with the ambiance made it an excellent night! Thanks JIM! more

What a great find! 12/16/2005

I ate here on a Friday night with ten friends and it was a great time! We were there for two and a half hours - no one rushed us. Our waitress was fantastic! And the food was really yummy! It's hard to find because it looks from the outside like it's part of a strip mall, but don't be fooled by the exterior! Pros: service!!!, food!, environment! more

fun for groups! 12/15/2005

Tapas and Sangria... woozy with delight... 12/11/2005

athanasios007 Provided by Partner
Authentic, Spanish-style cuisine. Idyllic first date setting; she was even more impressed than I, which worked out well... Ambiance: An oasis from the cacophony of the busy cityscape with the soothing sounds of the Flamenco guitar and the red and yellow hues of its cozy, Mediterranean-style decor. Food: Excellent tapas! Stick to the hearty dishes - steak or paella - if you're hungry like me. Drink: They had a nice wine selection but for us it was sangria. Traditional was the best! Pros: Ambiance, Great food, Fun! Cons: Smaller portions more

Ambience... but not much else 11/19/2005

kreplech Provided by Partner
Great LA setting. Outdoor porch seating is very nice. Every waiter looks like Ryan Seacrest. Food is not impressive at all. Interesting varieties of Sangria - we tried Royale, their traditional, and blueberry - both were a bit watered down. Tapas = average portion sizes, unimaginative dishes, below average quality. Probably a good place to take an out of town friend that wants to see LA rather than eat. Not cheap. Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: Food, Value more

Treated Us So Well 11/9/2005

maxemsno Provided by Partner
I recently hosted a bachelorette party for my friend here and the service and menu were great. Owner Jim Vandeventer really worked with me to create a menu of tapas and sangria for our party of 15. There was more than ample food and sangria to satisfy our table. The service was prompt and attentive. Thanks so much for a great time! more

Overpriced for Average Food! 11/7/2005

reviewlaoc Provided by Partner
The courtyard was pretty inside and the ambience was nice. There was no wait on a Saturday night. The tapas were good, some of them we didn't care for though...however, the bacon wrapped dates were delicious! The owner comes by to the tables, so I thought that was a nice touch and the waiters are all really sweet, but be careful when you order because the dishes are so tiny (only about 4 pieces each plate) that you can go through alot of them quite fast. The bill can add up really quickly.. I would say that our bill for 4 came out to be almost 300 dollars and we were not even full afterwards, but it was a nice experience overall. I would reccomend coming here for a date, but not for a meal to satisfy your hunger. Pros: good service , ambience Cons: expensive, food is mediocre more

ONE OF THE WORST! 10/20/2005

truthful_reviewer Provided by Partner
My friend and I just went there for lunch in that restaurant. It was so bad that I feel I had to write here just to vent my disatisfaction. I second with the last reviewer that it is below mediocre. Where were all these high ratings coming from? The owner himself and the waiters??? Or friends of them???? The lentil soup was mediocre and the salmon entree (under Entree on lunch menu) was terrible--it had a SOAPY taste. I am no kidding. We were joking whether they put soap in it! My seafood paella was quite bad also. The seafood didn't seem fresh and very dried (esp the shrimp). The whole thing was poorly done. None of us wants to go back to this place again. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food more

BELOW MEDIOCRE 9/26/2005

juddeus Provided by Partner
I've never written a review EVER before this, but I feel compelled to write one to save others from the misleading rating this place has. I dont know why they have a 9.7 score because this place has nothing to offer. If all you are after is the LA scene, then this place COULD be good for you. Other than that, this place is not worth going to expecially if you are after great quality Spanish tapas and sangria. They should be ASHAMED of serving their sangria...it's gross, watered-down, and just plain nasty. I had some tapas that were extremely salty. The seafood paella was not worth the wait. I could tell that they used the least amount of saffron to save money. After studying in Spain for months, I wasn't expecting this place to be absolutely authentic Spanish, but I didnt think they could go below mediocre, either. YUCK! Pros: NONE Cons: Below mediocre food, Bad parking, Terrible sangria more

Go ahead and try it!! 8/14/2005

After reading the comments about this pplace, I went ahead and try it. I must say that the service and food was amazing. I felt in love with the dates with bacon and the tasty Steak (Pobre). The waiter was very helpful with the menu. My girlfriend really love the environment. This place is great for those romantic dates... specially with some sangria on the table. more
