Best

I tried this restaurant for the first time last year at the recommendation of a friend. I have since introduced many of my friends to it. The atmosphere is great, the food excel...

Worst

Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto...

Exquisite 6/28/2007

Classy, charming, lush and outstanding are the best adjectives to describe this restaurant. Its adept ambience resembling a town plaza in Andalucia, Spain fits for all occasions. I have been here several times for romantic dates, business dinings and casual socials, and have received flawless, quality service. Not only does The Courtyard's setting makes it adaptable to everything, but in fact it delivers a different mood for different functions. The staff is very accommodating and friendly while the cuisines adhere to a high degree of taste, perfect quantity and aesthetics. I have traveled and lived around the world, and The Courtyard, is a definite place to visit and enjoy the cuisine, the Sangria, the atmosphere and the divine strawberry mojitos. I give it five diamonds! more

Tapas Bar 6/24/2007

This is the perfect place to go out for drinks and tapas, with friends or on a date. It has a beautiful outdoor seating area that gives it a cozy atmosphere, along with good music playing in the background. The food is exquisite and the service is great. One of the owners, Jim is a sweetheart and the place has a great vibe over all. We loved the sangria, this time we tried the royale, but can't wait to try the peach flavor, or maybe the blueberry. All in all it was a great way to spend my best friend's last night in California (she just moved back to Hawaii) and I would recommend this place to friends, for special occations or just to go relax and enjoy the atmosphere after a long day or before a night of partying. It does get busy, so I would recommend making reservations. Pros: smoking area more

I just absolutely love the ambiance and the plates were so creative. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to throw a party or anyone who wants a romantic atmosphere. You definately don't feel like you're in Los Angeles, which is nice, and the wait staff and management were very polite and enjoyabe to be around. All together, I had a great time, and just fell in love with those dates and bacon and that steak a la pobre!!!!!!!! more

We love the Courtyard! 6/11/2007

For a restaurant in the middle of West Hollywood, this place has all of pluses of a new hot restaurant (delicious food, fun experience, energetic scene) without all of the hollywood drama. True to it's name, The Couryard is an open air restaurant designed to make you feel like you are enjoying a meal with friends in the beautiful courtyard of a tuscan villa. The service was excellent, and the tapas style menue made the meal a fun experience to share with friends (do not come here if you are not big on sharing your food). All in all this was the perfect way to start a Saturday night out in L.A., the Sangria alone is worth stopping in for. We will definitely come back again and again! more

So much FUN!! 6/9/2007

Having had a stressful week of work my boyfriend and I decided to give the Courtyard a try after hearing good reviews from friends and I must say it definitely lived up to the hype. A very crowded evening -- the place had a lot of energy as people were clearly having have a good time which immediately put us in a festive mood. The hostess sat us at a table outside near the fountain (outside was the place to be that night) which we enjoyed because we both smoke. Our waiter was very friendly and we started with a strawberry mojito that he recommended (it was excellent) and we quickly felt the stress we walked in with melt away. We then had dates in bacon that came with a blue cheese sauce to dip it in (interesting taste combo but it works), chicken empanads (sweet and well seasoned) and a steak pobre which was spot on. For desert we had the bread pudding which was heaven and by the end of the night we realized two hours had flown by and we were having a fantastic time. On the way out we were asked how our meal was and invited to come back which was a nice touch. The Courtyard did a great job of taking care of us and we will be comming back for another fun evening. Pros: Great ambience, great food and mixed drinks. Cons: None but if it's a weekend get a reservation as it gets very crowded. more

Feels & Tastes like Spain 6/1/2007

We had a fabulous meal last night, table for six. Excellent service for our waiter, a charming owner who made sure the restaurant was happy and offered to buy us a round of beers. But mostly, what is really going to bring me back is the authentic and delicious Spanish tapas. I was excited to see all the classics, like croquetas, albondigas and jamon serrano, and they didn't disappoint. I especially recommend the cheese plate and the....I forget the name....but it's bread, dusted with tomato paste, and topped with manchego cheese, spanish sausage or jamon. If you like Spanish food, go, go go! more

For Some Great Spanish Food 5/30/2007

Well if you are a dining novice as I am, The Courtyard offers small plates that are to-die-for. I went with my girlfriend and tried a few of there dishes which were mushrooms with jamon serrano, little sausages in a terrific sauce, and steak a la pobre. Each dish had its quaint little flavors that made you wish they werent small plates. The service was very attentive, we were greeted with a smile and left with that same notion. The parking is a bit difficult we parked at the structure at the Ramada Inn because I was looking for the first parking spot I found and that was a mistake because when we left the structure we had to pay $8.00 for a little over an hour! All in alll I would highly recommend the restaurant to everyone I know. Pros: Great outdoor dining patio, service, fare, and food Cons: Parking more

This place was great. They had over 40 different types of appetizers. From steak and seafood to vegetarian nice selection. Each with a different taste and a selection for everyone. The wines and sangrias were unique and at a great price. I was there with my girl, but iot looked good for Bdays and such. Friendly service and the chef and owner came out to say hello. They actually seemed to care. All in all it was a great dinining experience. more

Nice and cozy courtyard setting, close your eyes and you could be in Sapin. Food was excellent, very authentic. Love the happy hours, priced right and a fun spot to be. Pros: ambience, food Cons: menu could be a little more extensive more

Great food and location. Service? Not so much... 4/12/2007

Heartbreak is hearing, "I'm so sorry, but we are out of the [insert highly anticipated wine]..." from your server. Heartbreak is hearing, "I'm so sorry, but we are out of the [insert highly anticipated dish]..." from your server. Then again, eating at The Courtyard IS a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. Yes. Genius. Lucky for the waiter['s tip], the paella was the ultimate redemption song. It was an inspired creation, and my meal's only saving grace. Don't take the server's advice on the wines. The malbec is excellent. ...and let me know how the tempranillo is... if they have it! Pros: happy hour & paella Cons: bring a book... the service is abismal more

Great Value, Great Food & fun! 3/30/2007

t_roch Provided by Partner
We met another couple here for a really great dinner last night. The food, while not totally authentic Spanish tapas, was VERY good and we got great service, as well! We found our meal to be much less greasy than some of the more well-known tapas places around town. I do agree with another reviewer that it would be nice to have our red sangria with something more than just apples. I think our favorite dish was the bacon-wrapped asparagus, but we ordered about 8-10 items, and the bill was about $100 - for 4 people -- an absolute steal! FYI, you can park for free in the Collar & Leash parking lot just west of the restaurant in the evening. Pros: fun experience, great food & service Cons: none more

So Amazing!! 3/22/2007

The Courtyard was the first restaurant I came to in LA, and it was AMAZING! The tapas, the wine, the service and not to mention the owner were amazing! The outdoor seating was so refreshing and great for our large group. The Courtyard comes highly reccommended from this Atlanta native. Pros: Great tapas, wine, service and facility. Cons: None that I can think of. more

very romantic and a nice hideaway from the busy city 2/26/2007

yayfoodisgood Provided by Partner
When I went, it had been raining earlier in the day, but the outdoor courtyard was still open for seating with heat lamps and tables under tarps. We decided to sit inside and the ambiance was very peaceful and quiet - a stark contrast to the busy streets and noise just outside. the small appetizers we ordered (stuffed mushrooms and dates wrapped in bacon) were flavorful, unique, a tad bit too salty, but overall very good. The paella was a little soggy, but really, the atmosphere and setting was so romantic and pleasant that it was a very enjoyable meal and I would recommend this place to my friends. more

Simply AMAZING 2/14/2007

I went to The Courtyard for Valentine's Day with my lady friends last night. It was the best Vday I've ever had. The tapas are fabulous, the Sangria is pretty darn good and I'm not even big on Sangria. Free parking, gorgeous, friendly waiters/staff and the dessert is oo-la-la! Try the hot lava cake if they have it! You'll feel like you've just died and gone to heaven...SERIOUSLY! Pros: friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere, great food, good music Cons: none! for once! more

Great outdoor dining, friendly staff, misleading website 11/26/2006

After careful consideration of several tapas spots, I decided on The Courtyard for dinner last Tuesday. I called ahead for reservations, which were not necessary on this particular evening. I also asked if the Tuesday night Tapas special was still going on. The gentleman responded yes, and confirmed my reservation. First off, the restaurant has parking, which is amazing considering it's location in WeHo. The outdoor courtyard is beautiful, very festive. You don't feel like you're in LA. Our server was great, very friendly, actually way above average as servers go. My date had a peach sangria, and I ordered the traditional. I read quite a few reviews which stated the sangria tasted watery - and my date's first comment confirmed this. I do not doubt that the sangria is made from fresh ingredients, but I think it's taste is a victim of being made too early in advance, allowed to sit in melting ice long before being ordered. The tapas were very good. The bacon wrapped dates were excellent. The mussels came in a delicious, creamy broth, soooo good. The cheese plate was average, but well presented. For the entreee we shared the seafood paella. The rice was cooked perfectly, infused with savory broth. The seafood was not over-cooked, and seemed to be of good quality. When the bill came, I noticed that the half price tapas special advertised on the website was not applied. Granted, the discount would not have been substantial, but if you advertise a special, it should be honored. I asked the server about it, explaining that I called in advance and was told that the special was still going strong. He said that they didn't "do that anymore, because of the music and dancers on Tuesday nights." Not a big deal, but worth mentioning, in case you're on the fence b/w "The Courtyard" and "Cobras" and the 1/2 price apps are your deal maker. I will definitely return to The Courtyard for its festive atmosphere, great food, and friendly waitstaff. Pros: Festive environment, friendly waitstaff, parking Cons: Misleading website specials more

Beyond Words 11/12/2006

The Courtyard is amazing! I ate there with some friends last night, and our "quick meal" turned into a three hour dining delight. We could not leave the table! The food is the best tapas in town. The Sangria is amazing. The atmosphere is romantic but fun, great for an initmate party but also for a loud group of friends. But what makes The Courtyard so amazing is the service. Our waiters were so friendly and so attentive! Just when we thought that was a rarity, we met the owner and chef who were just as wonderful! Tapas is meant to make the meal a friendly warm environment, where everyone is sharing the food, their thoughts, and themselves. Courtyard, really took it to new heights! We will be back very soon! Pros: Great food and great price Cons: parking is a little rough more

Wonderful food, service, and sangria... 11/6/2006

aribstein Provided by Partner
The husband took me to The Courtyard promising a lovely, relaxing evening. This is exactly what we got. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. The bill came to about $60 covering 4 different tapas (each more delicous then the next) and 2 carafes of sangria. There are plenty of restaruants costing two or three times as much, but you won't find the level of service and attention to detail that you'll find at The Courtyard. Pros: food, service, sangria... Cons: parking more
