Best

I tried this restaurant for the first time last year at the recommendation of a friend. I have since introduced many of my friends to it. The atmosphere is great, the food excel...

Worst

Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto...

buenas tapas, lugar romantico 10/21/2006

pepirrin Provided by Partner
Pros: ambiente y buenas tapas Cons: gaspacho y paella more

expected more, got less 9/24/2006

While service was good and atmosphere excellent, the food disappointed. Bread served with the cheese platter was spongy and tasteless. A 5 minute drive to any artisan bakery would have been a dramatic improvement. Then there was the tapa with white anchovies. Small tip .. the anchovies should not still be frosty when I bite into them. Finally the tomatos on the mozzarella was absolutely tasteless. Not even identifiable as a tomato unless you happened to see the red when you put in on your fork. However .. the rest of the food was outstanding. The lamb was savoury, and the chickpeas with chicken dish was piping hot and excellent. Over all erratic, though with a little more attention to detail it could be back on track. more

Another one bites the dust.... 9/23/2006

I always enjoy seeing new interesting looking places opening up, and I was overdue to check out The Courtyard. The setting is inviting, but unfortunately the food and the sangrias do not live up to the potential of the place. It is not rocket science to mix a flavorful sangria, yet they fail miserably. I sent the blend peach sangria back, only to get a watered down regular one, in which fruits (only apples!?) seem to have been thrown in as an afterthought. It was clearly watered down and lacked that 'latin excitment' which I was hoping for. The menu has quite a bit to offer, yet it is fairly uninventive. We tried a few and stopped ordering after the third tapas and called it a night. When I read all the great reviews, I can't help but think that my expectations are too high or is it that people in general are easily pleased? I was re-assured to see similar posts. In conclusion, while the waiters were cute/nice, the culinary experience just doesn't cut it... I do not recommend the place. Pros: ???? Cons: Food + sangrias more

Go On Tuesdays! 9/18/2006

Incredible tapas! We've made it a weekly girls' night out for Tuesday's Flamenco at 7:30pm. The dancing makes conversation a bit difficult, but the show is fantastic. The outdoor patio seating is also amazing. Definitely order the dates wrapped in bacon and the Cheeses of Spain platter. They also have a killer blueberry/lemonade sangria as well as free parking in a nearby lot - very unexpected for WeHo. Pros: Sangria, Patio Dining, Parking Cons: Service is unreliable more

Great service, awful food, watered down sangria 9/8/2006

I decided to try out this place after reading great reviews on Citysearch which boasted fantastic service, delicious food, and amazing sangria....I guess 1 out of 3 is better than 0 out of 3. Yes, the courtyard shines in good service (waitress was super nice with plenty of bus boys constantly checking on water/drink refills), but what makes me become a repeat customer is the food. The food was not good at all....and to top it off, I felt it was rather pricey for what we got as well. Nothing was fresh (canned asparagus), paella was yucky (undercooked rice with over cooked chicken, sausage, and seafood), and it was hard to distinguish between my glass of water and my glass of peach sangria by taste (sangria was super watered down). Personally the only thing that keeps me from giving a "Not Recommended" rating is that they did have good service. I will not be returning to the Courtyard. Pros: Service, parking next door Cons: Food, Sangria more

Okay at best 8/7/2006

After fighting to find a parking spot at this no parking lot/no valet place I was pleased at how cute it was. But once I got my first dish, I had to send it back. The rest of our Tapas were okay, but not very good. Especially since they give you 1/2 off the second tapa on tuesdays...remember that half comes off the cheapest item you order. The Sangria was excellent though... Still, all things consider I'd pass. Pros: Sangria is excellent Cons: Tomato sauce is way too sweet, food is mediocre with very little flavor more

I love this place! it's not only convenient, as I live down the street, but it really is a good neighborhood place. Love being able to sit outside and feel miles away from the hubbub on Santa Monica Blvd, and just order a bunch of sharing plates, some good wine or sangria and have a nice dinner, nice conversation. I even had a large birthday dinner there and they were more than accomodating. Plus, i DREAM about the bacon wrapped dates... more

Great Tapas, order a few but stay away from the Chicken Paella 6/28/2006

Little taste of Spain in WeHo... 6/26/2006

gshaenan Provided by Partner
I celebrated my birthday with a large group there recently and I must say The Courtyard really deserved its ratings. Great (not to mention HOT) waiters who move fast and seemlessly, make you feel like home from the moment you walk in, as well as get you sangria-ed up for the tapas... The Cuban music fits the ambiance, and the bulls all over the walls make you want to go (back) to Madrid. Pros: Service, price, great sangria Cons: Parking is a little tricky, try sidestreet... more

great sangria and fantastic food 6/14/2006

The Best Best Best 5/16/2006

Superb, fantastic, scrumptious, delightful fun magical. This is the courtyard. We held an event for 75 guests, young and old to share a memorable moment. We enjoyed an eccelectic array of Tapas Style foods, shrimp, steak, paella and bacon wrapped dates to die for. The free flowing pitchers of peach and blueberry Sangria were a hit. The list goes on and on and the variety will work with any palate. They were more than accommodating for my guests and my D.J. The evening was perfect. Thank you Jim, James and Albert. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Ambience Cons: none more

all good stuff 5/12/2006

blankenshiperino Provided by Partner
The whole vibe here is pure relaxation and serenity. Not to mention the best looking waitstaff i've seen - i didn't know which way to swing! But seriously, the food had a remarkably fiesty and rebellious originality. For someone like me, always looking to avoid bland mediocrity, The Courtyard satisfied my pernicious palate. My server, Martin, was wonderfully patient with my disabled friend, and really made us feel like we were his only concern (though he seemed to keep all of his tables happy)! I recommend The Courtyard for the large group, romantic date, or even an evening alone. Pros: prompt service, great dishes, wide variety Cons: none more

Loved it! 5/4/2006

Don't listen to the bad reviews! I went here with a few of my friends and we had a great time! The service was amazing. Our waitress Sam was very friendly and knew the menu inside out. We took all her recommendations for food (the peppers with goat cheese, the steak, the scallops!!! all are great... i could go on) and the wine she suggested was just what we wanted. (My friend is a very picky wine drinker too!) We didn't try the sangria, although I plan to try it the next time I go, because I will definitely go back! This place is a real find. The vibe is friendly and you can tell that the people love working there (rare to find in most restaurants), and the courtyard seating is nice and relaxing. And there is free parking next door! Loved it!!!! Pros: service, parking, food and wine Cons: none! more
