Best

I tried this restaurant for the first time last year at the recommendation of a friend. I have since introduced many of my friends to it. The atmosphere is great, the food excel...

Worst

Truly some of the most over-priced and GREASY tapas I have ever had. The Spanish tortilla was un-inspired and weighty with oil, the beef empanadas were flavorless, and the risotto...

Great Place for any occasion! 4/12/2005

I just had my birthday dinner here with 11 of my friends and had a great time. The sangrias and food were excellent. The service was superb. The ambience was great. I could picture myself going back for all sorts of different occasions. So, in other words I will definitely go back. more

Some of the Best Outdoor Dining in LA 4/10/2005

The food is good, especially the deserts! We had a desert sampler that included Chocolate Mouse, Banana Pudding and Rice Pudding. Great stuff! The outdoor dining area is great...so nice you almost feel like you were somewhere besides LA. Pros: Ambiance, Value, Desert more

The staff knows the menu. You can ask them any question and they know the answer, or, if they don't they will find out. Incredibly personable and polite. The staff makes dining there a pleasure. The food was great and fun. go back again and again to try it all! Pros: Staff, Food, Service Cons: smaller portions more

YOU MUST VISIT - The Courtyard - You'll get well worth what you spend. Every penny! Now for those that have never tried Tapas like my self, it's a great experience. You'll be wondering why you didn't come here sooner. Jim and his excellent staff have the best service in all of Hollywood area. I highly recommend going to The Courtyard. Try them for lunch too. Pros: EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING Cons: NADDA, NADDA, NADDA more

Great service! Amazing food! 3/21/2005

Our waiter, Tony, was actually from Spain and had extensive knowledge of the cuisine and wine! By his suggestion, we tried about seven of the menu items. The daily croquette special was delicious, but I think that the favorite was the steak and scalloped potatos dish! The courtyard took us on a tour of a variety of flavors including the jamon, (wrapped around grapes), chorizo and even a quail egg! The garlic shrimp melts in your mouth and the tortilla comes with a delicious garlic mayonaise. Great atmosphere and a friendly staff made it ultra nice. Go early in the week ... I'm sure that its packed on the weekends! Pros: Service, Traditional, Wine List Cons: Parking more

Absolutely fantastic. 3/19/2005

The service was well timed and Perfect. It took no time to get seated and served but by no means were we we rushed. The servers and hosts were great looking and friendly. They were on top of clearing plates and cleaning of the table even if you aren't staying for drinks and dessert. The food was wonderful; ambiance Uber romantic. It was absolutely lovely. Take your girfriend their for sangria and tapas for a romantic treat. If you haven't had tapas before, they really are only appetizer sized, but try the paella for something more substantial. more

Highly Recommend 3/16/2005

I'd have to agree with most of the other reviews, my experience at The Courtyard was terrific. Everything we ordered was excellent, the service was very friendly yet professional and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We ordered several things including the steak pobre, chicken paella, garlic shrimp and a wonderful watercress salad and several rounds of Sangria. I'd defiantly come back and would recommend it to others. Very European and relaxed vibe. Pros: good atmosphere, good food, you can sit outside more

a disappointment.... 3/9/2005

after reading the glowing reviews on citysearch, we were expecting big things from a "9.5" restaurant... not much lived up to the hype although the pupusas were tasty. a warning to all, do NOT try the plantains -this is an instance where "baked, not fried" is a BAD thing, they tasted like packing peanuts... the sangria was watered down (although maybe it was just an off night) and the paella was nothing to rave about. try another restaurant first... Pros: nice lighting Cons: everything else more

new favorite place 3/2/2005

lindabb Provided by Partner
The courtyard has become in one of my favorite restaurants in just the few short months it's been open. The food is great, the lamb chops and chicken paella are my favorites. I'd recommend the "piquello peppers", garlic shrimp and the spinach dish as well. Everything I've tried has been very tasty. The waiters are super nice and the service has always been excellent. They just opened for brunch too- the french toast is to die for. I think The Courtyard is a great new find that I'd highly recommend. Pros: outside seating, romantic, great food more

Don't Miss This Place! 2/6/2005

Everything about the Courtyard was excellent. From the ease with which my dinner companion and I made the (same day) reservation to final cup of coffee, I couldn't have been more satisfied. Having traveled extensively in Spain and had more than my share of "Spanish" restaurants in the US, I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic and delicious the food was. Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient without being obtrusive. We even had the opportunity to chat with Jim (one of the owners) and tell him what a great place he has. I highly recommend dining in the courtyard - it adds a lot to the experience. The food, the staff, and the ambience all come together perfectly to make this a destination in itself. more

Would definitely eat here again 1/31/2005

To start with, I had no problems making reservations for two on a saturday evening, even with a request to sit outdoors. although we were late for our reservations, they still had no problems seating us immediately. the portions of the food were a little smaller than i expected, but the quality of the food was tasty. but they have a good variety in their menu, enough for everyone in your party to find something they like. like the other reviews state, the sangrias are highly recommended. i think the blueberry-lemonade sangria was better than the sangria royale, though. overall, it was a very good dining experience. i will definitely bring a group of friends next time...so we can share pitchers of sangria. fyi about parking, park in the pet shop parking lot, the hostess told us to park there next time, instead of paying at the ramada parking structure. Pros: Good for groups, Variety of food, Sangria more

very good 12/20/2004

janemm Provided by Partner
i went to this newer Mediterranean restaurant not really knowing what kind of food it served. I was very happy with the menue, it had lot's of choices with a spanish flair. The seafood was amazing, i'd go back just for more of the mussels, the best i've had in LA. I was really impressed with the servers. I had a lot of questions and she was very helpful. My friend had entree size portions but i went with the "small plates" so i could try several things. a very fun way to dine. I would highly recommend this place. Pros: good prices, skilled waiters, very good food more

great new find 12/20/2004

lookinglady Provided by Partner
I have never written one of these, but I feel compelled to this time. I want to get the word out for this place. It's one of the most pleasant atmospheres in LA. They have a great outdoor patio. I've tried tapas before at a few of the other places around town, but The Courtyard was far and above the best. I really felt like I was in Europe. The food seemed so authentic. They even bring these great olives to start off with. We were a party of 7 so we got to try a lot of dishes and they were all good. We ordered a few new Spanish dishes as well as some more tradition things... and to die for fries. For a really good dining experience in a very hip Mediterranean feeling place you have got to check this place out. I think it's a new restaurant. Pros: open late, patio seating, large menu more

Spanish Success! 12/20/2004

vallury05 Provided by Partner
I absolutely LOVED The Courtyard!!! The Spanish ambiance and decor was truly authentic and the service was superb! I grazed on a delicious selection of Spanish food like Chicken Paella, Grilled Merguez (spicy North African lamb sausage with white bean olive tapenade) and Gamba al Ajillo (sauteed shrimp in garlic sauce)not to mention Sangria to die forall of which left me craving everything on the menu. Im going back next week! It was by far the best Spanish restaurant I have been to since my trip to Spain last summer. Hats off to the owners for successfully creating a Spanish gem right here in West Hollywood! Pros: Great food, Great Price more
