Broadway's consistent overcharging 6/14/2009

I've had the displeasure of using Broadway's several times, the last of which ended with a cab driver cursing me out because we wouldn't agree to pay a flat rate before starting our route. Hmmm. A few weekends ago some friends and I took a cab from 2nd Ave to PGE Park (about 14 blocks). The charge was $7.80, which is a little much, but then the cab driver pushed another button which brought the total to $11, when there was already a flat fee involved. Finally, Broadway ends up running my card for $15 total. Same thing with taking a cab from Portland Airport to downtown. Other companies it's $25-28. With Broadway it was $45, and he took the slowest route possible. When I called their accounting manager, his ""mailbox was full"" and i was unable to leave a message. Looks like many others have had unethical charges as well. Pros: Frequent cab routes Cons: Unethical service, poor customer service more

First Cab Ride Experience 2/18/2009

My husband just had knee surgery and this is his first experience with cabs. We called Broadway cab, a female answered the line & she was very nice & answered all my questions. We then set up a time for the cab to arrive. The first cab driver arrived early knowing my husband was on cruches and was very polite - limited english - but very polite. This cab ride went well.\r \r The cab ride on the way home was a different driver. This guy was also limited english - didn't have a clue as to where he was going - his car smelled very bad like body odor and up chuck. When I called a couple days later for another cab for his next appt a male answered the phone, he isn't so helpful. I told him about the last cab ride & how it smelled bad - he asked if I knew the cab #. I said no - don't you have records of who picked him up? He then said no - we only keep information for 24 hours so unless you have the cab # I can't help you with that. After each question or comment - the guy was like ""ok thanks bye!"" I said wait!! We haven't even set up the cab yet. \r Now we've had 3 cab rides - I wouldn't ever suggest riding in any cab unless one absolutely has too! more

Rear Ended and Not Able To Speak English in the USA 2/12/2009

On 7/16/08 I was rear ended by driver #652 on I5N @5:38PM. Said driver was cell phone busy and it was rush hour. When I approached him he shoo'd me as he continued his cell phone conversation. Hmm, so I have beautiful yellow paint on my black car forever?\r Nobody thinks they should contact me (us) to 1/ see if we are hurt 2/ or/and reimburse me (us) for his damage.\r Nice play fair responsible company and drivers. Oh, English is not a second language. We are not in Europe.\r What to do...\r Thank you, Yours Truely and Sincerely.\r BPC\r \r Cons: Irresponsible more

Good drivers, bad management 1/28/2009

The drivers and lot supervisors at broadway cab are good people who give good service to the customers, but the people who run the company, Steve Hext the Operations Manager and Raye Miles, the president and general manager are shallow people who think it is okay to make up reasons to let a driver return to work and hide behind them to disguise their real reasons for not letting me come back to work there.\r I was a good driver, who got very few complaints in a business where just about everybody received the occasional complaint and who never failed to pay the lease they made us pay every week to drive there. \r Yet, after leaving for a couple of months to recover from back surgery, waiting a couple of extra months due to a bad economy and no cabs available, I was told I couldn't come back due to numerous complaints in my file making me look like a loose cannon by Mr. Hext. After requesting a copy of my file from Miss Miles 3 times, I finally received it and found only 1 valid complaint, which by itself does not make me seem like a loose cannon, or every driver would be one and nobody would be able to come back. \r I am what is considered obese and I feel that Mr. Hext just didn't want someone like me to work at Broadway, even though it had no bearing on my ability to do the job and they always got their money from me and as my file indicated, I did not receive numerous complaints. But he had to make up some reason to keep me from returning and even after appealing to Raye Miles to review the file and reconsider my request to come back there, I was ignored and forgotten about. No room in this economy for such shallowness and bad treatment. Pros: Good drivers and lot supervisors, good customer service Cons: Management is shallow and unfair in how they treat obese employees more

Worst service ever 12/7/2008

The other night, my friend was driving me home and his car ran out of gas. We pulled off to the side of the road and called a few buddies to see if they would help out. Nobody was close enough, so he called Broadway to get a ride. A male dispatcher answered and my friend explained the situation to him and we told him the street and cross street we were on. The dispatcher asked us for a specific address and we calmly told him we didn't have a specific one (we were off the shoulder of a very busy road). We asked him if he had any way of looking up an address to use and he rudely replied ""No. That's not my job."" After a few more minutes of trying to get the point across that we were stranded and just needed a ride to a gas station and back my friend nicely repeated the question ""Is there any way you can look up an address? All we know are the cross streets."" The guy said no, more agitated, and then HUNG UP before we could say anything else. \r \r I understand he might have been having a bad night, but you NEVER hang up on a possible customer. I work for a company where customer service is key and you do anything to help that customer, even if it means looking something up. You don't hang up though! That's horrible customer service! \r \r We ended up calling Radio Cab (who were very patient and nice) and they had a cab sent out to us immediately. \r \r While my friend met up with the Radio Cab taxi, I called Broadway and left their feedback department a ""disappointed"" message. I'm thinking of filing a formal complaint if they don't call back. \r \r I don't think the guy should be fired or anything... But I definitely think some training sessions on courteous service should be utilized.\r \r I strongly suggest you avoid using Broadway, unless you like being treated with disrespect. Pros: The Radio Cab driver we ended up getting was awesome. Cons: Everything having to do with Broadway more

You've got to watch their drivers! 5/24/2008

The other day I called Broadway for a cab to get me from the shop where my car was being repaired, to a nearby car rental office. When the cab arrived, the driver started the meter BEFORE I even got into the cab, then pretended that he was having trouble unlocking his doors, racking up a good five minutes on the meter! Then, after I gave him the EXACT ADDRESS to which I was going, he pretended to have problems entering the information into his computer! If that weren't bad enough, he then had problems following the directions on the computer! By the time he was done, he'd racked the fare up to almost $14.00 for a two, and a half mile ride! Broadway Cab IS bad!!! 1/29/2008

I'd already read the reviews that Broadway Cab was not to be trusted. I use Radio Cab and have always been happy. However, when I had to take cab from the airport, the first in line at the taxi stand was Broadway Cab. It was 3:30 am, and I told the cabbie the address. As we pulled from the curb, I saw that he already had the meter running up to 6 bucks - for the first 20 feet that he'd moved the cab. Then he missed the major exit that would have taken me home the quickest, and I really woke up - I was really angry, and asked him where he thought he was going. He said he was going to take highway 26, which is ridiculous. I told him he was trying to take the long way, and that I'd never paid more than $35 to get home. At any rate, towards the end, I had him stop early, and I walked the rest of the way home, close to 4 am, with luggage in tow. Now I really know why Broadway Cab shouldn't be used. Clueless drivers that overcharge!!! Pros: May be available at the taxi stand Cons: Don't go with them - you won't get to where you want without overpaying more

Best way to be late !!! 12/8/2007

They never showed up and when called told us that we canceled our cab!!!\r When we asked for more details, the operator wasn't able to provide us any reason or how our reservation was canceled.\r My honest point of view, they prefer to lie and drop their customers than honor a reservation.\r \r Avoid them!\r more

Who's the Customer 10/22/2007

We were in Portland for the weekend and called Broadway Cab to take us to a restaraunt because we did not feel safe walking around. When we told the dispatcher what corner we were at she asked for an address; we told her we were at the corner and did not know an address that we were visiting from another state. She asked if we could walk to a destination with an address. All the cities I have ever visited you could always give them the corner of 2 streets and be picked up in minutes but this city is rude and seems to not want tourist. It will be a long time if ever before I visit Portland again. Pros: You can get your excercise by walking to the destination they want to pick you up at Cons: Rude Dispatcher - no assistance - doesnt care about the customer more

Terrible, rude & untrustworthy 9/11/2007

Usually i use Broadway Cab as opposed to Radio Cab because of the convenience and timeliness, but tonight it was a totally different story and frankly, Broadway Cab left me in a greater mess than I could've ever imagined. A group of friends and I had early dinner down at Beaverton tonight and recalling previous Broadway Cab experiences, we decided to call a cab at 6PM (we even gave the cab company our number), before we finished dinner. However, 6:30 came when dinner was finished and.... not a single cab in site. Therefore we called again and they told us that 5 people cannot fit into one cab and unless we wanted a van (which means we had to wait an hour), they could get us 2 cabs instead in 30 mins which, the operator told me in a rather rude voice (like i was stupid), ""WELL, YOU COULD... BUT IT WOULD BE TWICE THE AMOUNT."" and so we decided we didn't want it. However we called again after we calle radiocab and they informed us that there were no cabs around... Here was the response from Broadway Cab the second time we called, ""I remember your number... You called us before. Do you still have 5 people? We cannot send you one car."" We said, no, we didn't have 5 ppl and so we took one car (we had to be back by 7:30). 7:20 came and still no signs of the car... therefore, we called again. this time they said, ""We sent you a cab already, and u guys didn't take it."" and we replied with, ""We didnt see it and you didnt call to let us know even though you had our number... will you please dispatch another one? we are in a hurry and have been waiting for over an hour"" and they said, ""No, we cannot get you another cab because you misuse us. Sorry."" *Hang up*. SUCH TERRIBLE SERVICES!! What has the world come to? A cab company refusing to dispatch cabs to their frequent customers and insulting the customers along the way? Initially i was going to file a complain on the 3 different but equally rude operators there, but since they don't have a Customer Services.... more

Broadway Cab 8/27/2007

I never complain about services and always give the benefit of the doubt to the company, but for the second time Broadway Cab has left me in a big mess. They assured me they would be here for a run to the airport at 4:30 AM. They did not show, did not answer the phone, nothing. After 30 minutes we called Radio Cab and they were right here. When I tried to call the office no one seemed the least bit interested in the problem. And when I called back to register a formal complaint I was transferred and hung up on. Since I got nowhere by going directly to the company I am writing to alert others. \r \r I guess I should know better than to call them--when they take you home from the airport the drivers often get angry and yell at you if you are not going across town. They let a friend off in front of my house a while back and the driver was actually screaming at her. He was a big man and she is a 5 ft petite woman. These are just my experiences but I will never call them again. And I will tell all my friends the same thing. more

unprofessional and late 8/16/2007

I have had bad experiences with Broadway. Driver was late and didn't speak much english. I recommend and use Radio cab. Cons: Driver didn't speak english and was late more

Late foir airport ride 1/9/2007

I called the night before for a 5:30 am pickup. Called and they said they were 5 mins sway. 5:50, they still hadn't shown up. I called Radio Cab and they were here when they said they would be. The bad reviews on here are 100% correct about them being late. Don't risk your flight or plans with this company. more

Horribly late cab service 12/8/2006

We had to catch a boat in Portland, and called these guys at 3pm to get a cab at 5:20. They couldn't even tell us WHEN they were going to get to us!! Unbelievable. We had to find another ride to get there on time, and Broadway wasn't even the slightest bit concerned. No customer service at all at that place. Sad. I'd definitely take Radio cab next time! Cons: late late late late more

'Punctuality' not in Broadway vocabulary... 11/13/2006

I work at a hotel and am frequently required to call cabs for my guests, whether they need to go to the airport, or get to an important meeting. Usually I call Radio Cab because they are reliable 99% of the time, and my past experiences with Broadway have been less than satisfactory. Recently I called Radio Cab for a guest, and after waiting 15 minutes, I called back and they didn't have any cabs in the area. So I was forced to call Broadway. 15 minutes after the initial phone, I called back to check the status of the cab. The dispatcher informed me that I had not placed an order, which was most odd, because unless I was dreaming, I was quite certain that I had. Then she proceeded to ask me my address, and messed it up 3 or four times, then asked if my hotel was at a new location, and at this point I was getting upset. It took entirely too long to get it sorted out, and she didn't have a very apologetic attitude. Just an attitude. My guest was going to be late to his meeting, so I ended up having one of our staff members take him, and called to cancel the cab. Right after my guest had left, a Broadway cab pulled up. Then the driver got upset with me because I hadn't called to cancel the cab. I told him that dispatch seemed to be having a communication issue. This display just re-enforced my negative feelings towards Broadway Cab. I do not recommend using them if you plan on getting where you need to go. Or getting a cab at all. Cons: Unreliable more

On-Time Transportation 11/5/2006

I've used Broadway Cab for two early morning pickups to the airport in the past month, and both times they were right on time. Cabs were clean and drivers were friendly and efficient. I would recommend using Broadway Cabs, and I will definitely use them again for my next trip in Dec. more

Better than expected 3/28/2006

I called Broadway the night before my flight for a 4:10 a.m. pickup. They arrived 5 minutes early and had me there very quickly. Friendly and efficient. Would use them again! more

Unreliable 2/17/2006

I stopped using them recently. They don't arrive on time and don't give you any warning about the delay. On one occasion when the cab hasn't arrived on time and I called them to check the status, they were telling me that the driver was ""just half a mile away"" while the cab hasn't arrived for another 20 minutes. Also, I don't know where they hire their drivers from but they seem to lack elementary knowledge of Portland and the main streets. On top ot that they often speak very little or no English so you're never sure if they understand your instructions. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. more
