enjoy service, warm people, and nice landscape 3/14/2011

My wife Kathleen and I have, for the last eight years, throughly enjoyed living in Apt.6. We have had excellent and immediate service from Stacy, our apartment manager. Stacy brings a personal and warm outreach to any discussions we have ever had concerning maintenance or company protocols. The grounds are kept as nice as the day we moved in and it is always a pleasure to walk through the landscaped courtyard to the garage... We always speak highly of Breven Brock more

Always treated with respect 2/28/2011

Bevin and Brock has been the management company for the complex where I live since 2000. Rick Houser, my manager at Bevin and Brock, has always been courteous to me, and I have never had a problem that they didn't take care of right away, usually on the same day. If there is one thing I don't like it is that Rick doesn't always call back, but he does call back when he needs to. And anyway, I don't need him to hold my hand, I need them to address my problem and they always have. I do know that Rick is genuinely conscientious, and has tried to make things right for me when he didn't have to. Sure, they're a management company, and I don't know about the other reviewers situations, but as far as I'm concerned, I've been treated with consideration and respect. more

Pleased Customer 2/23/2011

I just moved in last month, June, 2010. The application process seemed very business like. I liked that. At the outset they told me exactly what they would need from me. I am a very busy person with my job, and was satisfied when the whole process was completed in just two days. As others have mentioned, I was clearly directed to take pictures of the apartment before I moved in to show its present condition so there could be no dispute after I move about my security deposit, even if the property is sold to another owner. I liked that, too. After moving in I discovered a problem with my air conditioner, but they had it fixed the next day. Im sorry they didnt figure this out before I moved in, but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt so far. So far, they are OK with me. more

A great management company 2/14/2011

Beven and Brock has been nothing but a good experience. They are well organized with their rentals and even provide maps. I have been renting for a year and every time I needed something fixed all I had to do is submit a maintenance request and it was taken care of. They are friendly every time I have called. I recommend this company to anyone who needs to find a place without having to pay for listings, and they are open 7 days a week more

So far, I have had a very good impression of Beven & Brock 2/9/2011

When I arrived, I was greeted by Rosa, and she gave me a clear instruction sheet on how to apply with their company. HERE WAS THE GREAT PART: at the bottom of the cover-sheet, in a "bold" box, was a note from the owner of the company. It read "To All Applicants: If you have any problem with our service, any problem at all, please call me. If you think that I might be able to help you in any way, to answer any question, please call me at my direct line". It then gave his name and number. I will reserve final judgment until I have more experience with this company, but this to me sounds like an owner who is involved, and who really is concerned about customer service. more

Follow the instructions and they're will be no suprises 2/1/2011

It is my understanding that every tenant who moves out of one of the Beven & Brock properties is given detailed instructions on "HOW TO GET ALL OF YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK". I certainly did. I followed the instructions to the letter, and there were no surprises. I got everything back except a charge for re-screening the back door where my cat had a habit of trying to climb up the screen door. I thought that their charge was a bit high. However, I am not really complaining about that. I could have had the screen replaced myself, but I just did not want to take the time to deal with it. As the folks at Beven & Brock explained to me, it is clearly in their best interests to have the tenant repair any damage they caused and clean their apartment before they move out. If the tenants do the work, this shortens the vacancy time, and everyone wins. Darned cat ! more

Here's a company that understands what going on out there. 1/26/2011

I am one of their tenants, and I accidentally got a copy of an internal memo from the owner. It was directed to all of his property managers, property owners, and rental staff. The sense of the letter was that for the foreseeable future they would not be raising rents unless someones rent was ridiculously low. This was apparently not done as a favor to the tenants, but out of what seems to be good business sense: to avoid unnecessary vacancies when times are tough. Mutual benefit, as it turns out. Good for the owners of the properties, and good for us tenants. I gave them "4-Stars". Good, not perfect. Nobody is. more

Never had any problems 1/19/2011

The whole time we lived there, it was awesome. Any problem we had, they were on top of it & pretty prompt. We went through an associate named Taylor and she was always very pleasant. more

Rude employees, Rude managers and Rude company owners 6/30/2010

I was a renter with Beven & Brock back in 2005. Beven & Brock was the worse property management company I have ever dealt with. Their employees are rude, the managers are rude, the company owners are extremely rude. Although their properties may be nice and clean, their attitude and behavior are definitely rude and nasty. I had several encounters with their employees. I went to their office to sign a rental form. The lady at the rental department told me it was 15 min to lunch break and she was waiting to have the lunch break. She asked me to come back 1 hour later. How long does it take to sign a lease? This is Beven & Brock's customer service. In 2007, I moved out. I wasn't able to get my security deposit back. On top of that, they charged me a few hundred bucks more for repairing. There was no damage to the apartment. The most work was to repaint and shampoo the carpet. Beven & Brock claimed that they do not mark up from the vendor, everything was straight charge from the vendor. If it's really true, then your vendor is VERY expensive. Why the employees act like that? It's because the owners act the same way. I saw the owners of Beven & Brock leaving posts in different forums such as 'I am the co-owner of the company. My name is Finley Beven, and I can be reached easily during our business hours. If you have a question or a complaint, please just call me. 626-xxxxxxxx' Sounds nice, right? But if you really call and try to speak with him about your complaints, he won't listen. He won't let you finish a sentence. He 'sounds' nice by asking 'what can i do for you?' for about 10 times in 2 minutes. It really ticked me and he still insisted that he was trying to help me. They know the law very well, they know how to play around it. Everything they said is very 'legal', everything that the tenants complained is considered as slander, being libel and defamation. We (tenants) sometimes are like ants trying to fight an elephant. They have company attorney but we don't even have a lawyer. Anyone who reads this forum, don't rent with them. Don't become their tenant and get yourself into trouble. Even if you get yourself into trouble, you better don't mess with them. They will nail you. Pros: nothing Cons: rude, rude, rude more

Boy, are they picky ! I am glad they are ! 4/14/2010

Boy are they picky, and now I’m glad. When I first went to their office, I was stunned. They wanted to take my fingerprint and a copy of my driver’s license before they would give me a key to go look at a vacant unit about a mile away. I asked them if that was really necessary. Eileen, my rental agent showed me an article from a recent newspaper. It detailed some really nasty scams some people are running, using vacant houses and apartments. In one case some couple got access to a vacant house, and over a weekend accepted deposits from at least 10 un-suspecting families trying to rent. I don’t remember exactly, but I think they took (stole) around $1000 from each of these people. They told each one to come back the following week to move in. It was a total scam. The police were called, and I doubt that any of these people ever got back any of their money. None of them could move in. With those kind of scammers, I was then happy to know that Bevin and Brock was being so thorough. I was glad to find out that Bevin and Brock would be running a criminal background check on me. That’s because I don’t want to move in to some place and later find out that I am now living in the same building with some criminal because my landlord did not take the time to check. They did not charge me for running these checks. They told me that they run these checks, and use these strict procedures, to protect me, the other tenants, and the owners of the property. I am concerned for my safety. I am glad that they are so cautious. Pros: Careful about security Cons: not now more

Can't think out of the box 4/1/2010

I found the people at this management company to be rude and not at all helpful. Renting a place is difficult enough without snotty people being part of the hunt. Go elsewhere for less headache. more

Ower answered my call 2/4/2010

I am new to the Pasadena area. I had never heard of Bevin and Brock until I found one of their ads on Craig’s List. My experience with them was an eye-opener. Not only was the rental staff very attentive, but just as I was about to sign my lease, the owner of the company, Mr. Bevin, came out of his office to introduce himself. He gave me his business card, with his direct office phone number and his e-mail. He told me that if I ever had a problem with service at the office, I could contact him directly. One of the ladies in the rental department said that he almost always does that. That was a huge surprise to me, that a company owner could be that accessible. Well, two weeks later I had a problem with my heater. I called my property manager, but he did not answer. I was concerned that my problem would just get lost in voice mail. I called Mr. Bevin. He answered and took care of the problem right away, and I had my heater working by noon the next day. This seems like a good service. Pros: Needed Help, owner was right there Cons: I'l let you know more

If I could give zero stars...I would 1/26/2010

I concur with other reviewers who state that no one returns your phone calls or picks up the phone. They seem to prefer to speak to you via voicemail. Very unprofessional. Second, they expect you to follow everything to exactly the way that they want it. Even if it is unreasonable and has no basis in logic. Failure to do so will result in the managers childishly lashing out at you and trying to retaliate against you. It is a shame that people who manage such a basic necessity such as housing would be run by such incompetent and unprofessional people... Live elsewhere. The properties are nice, but with managers like these, it's not worth it. Pros: There was one nice lady at the front Cons: Everyone and everything else more

Great Service & People 11/3/2009

We have used Beven & Brock for our HOA management for several years now. They are competent, conscientious, accurate and responsive to any issues that come up. I highly recommend them and the services they provide. Pros: Attentive & Responsive to Needs more

Everything was going great for me 9/10/2009

Everything was going great. I had been hired by a local engineering firm. I found a great apartment in Alhambra, and it was just a few miles from my new job. I went through all of requirements to check my credit history and I signed a lease. Just before I was supposed to move in, my new employer advised me that my job was being moved to another state. I could move, and they would help me with some of my moving expenses, but I had committed to rent this apartment managed by Bevin & Brock for one year. I went into the Bevin & Brock office and told them what happened. They probably did not have to do this, but they told me that they understood, and offered to cancel the lease if I would pay a small cancellation fee of $95 to cover the cost of the credit check and the time they spent working with me over three days, as they would then have to do this same work all over again. My obligation under that lease would have been $985 each month for 12 months. I got out of that lease for $95. What a relief. I am sorry to have to move, but I am thankful that they helped me to make the move easier. Pros: Very helpful Cons: have not seen any more

Years of Good Experience 8/19/2009

My condo association has been with Beven & Brock for many, many years. We have been with two different property managers over those years. Both of them seemed concerned about our association, and me as an individual homeowner, when I needed them. As with some other writers here, I know that there were times when the service was not perfect. In my experience, some of their personnel are more people-friendly, more attuned to customer service than others. They should work on that. But overall, I have found them to be professional and responsive. When I needed to rent out my unit for a year, they found me a good tenant who continues to pay good rent. Pros: Attentive and Professional Cons: must be some, can't think of any at this time more

HORRIBLE Customer Service 8/12/2009

Called from one of their managed HOA Boards and was transferred to the person who is designated as our "property manager." Although I was very polite-she had an attitude like "why are you bothering me?" from the start of the call. When I asked her if I had done something to put her off, she hung up on me. Called her boss to speak to him about it and got no response. Will be moving "service" providers as these people are obviously incapable of providing service. Pros: None Cons: Worst people to deal with more
