I'm from South Carolina and had to laugh when I heard there was a ""Carolina BBQ"" place in Venice. Once I tried it though, I literally felt like I was back at home it was that good. The food and the service are fantastic! Whether as take-out or eating in, I love everything about this place and the food. The style is country dive - like you'd find anywhere in Carolina, but nowhere in LA. My favorites are the mac & cheese, BBQ chicken, pulled pork and cole slaw. This place is the ONLY place in LA that even remotely reminds me of being back home. Enjoy! Pros: Mac & Cheese, BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork Cons: Parking more

This is the best BBQ I have ever had! Excellent Mashed sweet potatoes and mac&cheese. Bring your own beer and they will provide the bottle opener. Just loved it! Pros: Yummy food, nice staff Cons: small place, parking more

everyone's got their favorite style of bbq and the carolina style that they serve here is liquidy and vinegary. i prefer thicker and sweeter sauces so wasn't quite to my liking. the sides too were unremarkable. what really ruined it for me though was the sweet tea. it's nothing like what i've had in the south. it tasted like the tea and the sweetener were two separate components and somehow not mixed in the iced tea. i actually added water to it to see if it would taste better. the nicest part of our dinner experience was the hostess, who was very kind. we sat outside to avoid the wait, and the hostess brought everyone in our party jackets to keep warm. Pros: easy street parking, nice hostess Cons: not the best bbq or sweet tea more

Get the shrimp 11/18/2006

I'm surprised the reviews for this place are so mixed: I've only had good experiences here. I've also only ordered the BBQ SHRIMP which is amazing!! Perhaps they're not consistent with their meat (to judge from other reviews) but I promise you if you order the shrimp you will not be disappointed. more

Insane BBQ! 11/15/2006

It was crowded and we were seated at one of the little round tables outside. There were two bottles of BBQ sauce, one was labeled HOT. I was intrigued: a challenge! I ordered the prawns and baby-back ribs. The prawns were absolutely nuts! Some of the best spices I've had anywhere. And the hot BBQ sauce lived up to it's name; I was sweating outside on a chilly night! I'd absolutely come back again. I wasn't so hot on their sides but their cornbread was excellent. more

I love all types of BBQ and I usually drive past this place on my way home from work, so I decided to give it a try a few months ago. I ordered the beef brisket and it came with a couple of sides. The sides tasted fine, nothing great but nothing wrong with them. The brisket, however, tasted terrible. It was dry and therefore very chewy. I may give this place another chance and try the ribs due to the high rating this place received. I'll let you know how that goes. more

WORST BARBEQUE EXPERIENCE EVER 8/9/2006

Short & sweet, my golf buddies & I had the worst example of barbeque we've collectively ever had. Two of them are from Memphis & were born & bred on the stuff. Keeping it short, the corn bread was greasy & hard, the ribs were tough & the skin membrane on the bottom of the ribrack was still on, and the chicken was dry. We stopped in because of the above average reviews and were served a below average experience. Pros: plenty of seats available Cons: dry & tough barbeque, hard & greasy cornbread more

I dont get these reviews from people that say Baby Blues is no good. I have been coming now for about a year and granted, the place is a liitle small and its not your dark booth place, but I think thats part of the allure. It down home, reall good eatin food. The ribs are mouth watering awsome! Go for the Rib/shrimp combo. They serve the shrimp with a chipotle like butter sauce,not too heavy... its all good. If your looking for a real rib place that has excellent BarBQ and great food with a casual flare, I would recommend this place. Sit at the bat of your into checking out the grill, i like it better because theres more action. Enjoy! more
