Best

I've been a fan of Baby Blues for a long time. They have stupendous sweet tea, perfect pecan pie, bitchin' blackened catfish, and kickin' collard greens. Everything here rocks. I ...

Worst

The place is not the cleanest, our table was still greasy even after they wiped it with the dreaded wet towel, I sat there trying not to touch the table with any part of my body. ...

THEY NAILED IT! 5/2/2008

O.K., here's the deal: I went skeptically tonight because the last two reviews said it wasn't authentic and they didn't smoke their meats. But my work associate forced us into going. Holy cow, indeed (as one of the reviewers said). I cannot find one thing wrong with the place. Actually, that's not true. The wait is long. Now, for those who said they don't smoke their meat, you are mistaken. I told the owner (Rick, I believe) that the rumor was out that the meat was not smoked. He then gave me a tour of the kitchen, and yes, they have 4 smokers and use a combination of hickory and apple woods. I thought it was a nice touch that he did that. Then we ate. The ribs were stellar. The sides (we split 5) were all excellent. The cornbread was great. And they have PBR. This place needs beds so I can move in. If you're a review junkie, take my advise and go. Oh, and for the record, I am from , Abbeville, Alabama. Born and raised. So I know a thing or two (or three) about barbecue. Good show, fellas. - Rob from Bama. Pros: Everything Cons: They won't let me move in more

It's not a smokehouse 3/31/2008

This is not strong barbecue. I find it absolutely crazy that this place as high of a rating as it does. The barbecue is oddly seasoned. It is not slow smoked, but is probably doused in something similar to liquid smoke. It can't compete with any smokehouse I have ever tried. The lines are annoying. One credit, the people that work there are very cool. I would rather drive farther to get something authentic and tasty. more

HOLY COW, BATMAN! 2/17/2008

The buck stops right here. This place is the holy grail of barbecue. Long waits, yes. But it was worth every minute of it. The shrimp are exactly what the waitress said ""superb"". The ribs were nuts. Not only tasty, but meaty. Tons of meat. The creamed spinach was the best I ever had. The atmosphere was awesome. Friendly waitresses, owners, everybody. After dinner we split a big pile of Banana pudding. Unreal. Couple glasses of wine to top it all off. I'll be back often. more

Top Of My List 2/17/2008

Not sure what that last reviewer was talking about, but I'd disagree on just about everything they said. I ate there Thursday night and still can't get over how good it was. We had four of us and the waitress recommended we do the ""family-style"" platter (which is a little of everything). Every single thing we ate was incredible. The ribs were, far and away, the best I've ever had (and the others agreed). The shrimp were amazing, the chicken was moist, the sides were all phenomenal. The only snag was it was crowded and we waited about 30 minutes for a table. But c'est la vie. I found a new favorite restaurant, so I'm not complaining. Pros: Walking in the door Cons: Having to leave more

Bad Choice for Barbque 2/3/2008

My wife and I were born in the Carolinas and were disappointed to find a sad excuse for Carolina barbeque at B.B. We tried the vinegar based barbeque sauce but it was on the weak side. The service was pretty good but the baby back ribs and pork left us really disappointed. We figure that the hype on this place is from locals who have know clue as to how great real Carolina style barbeque can be when prepared properly. We had high hopes for this place. Maybe we'll try it again sometime and leave an update to any improvements made. Pros: No wait for tables, corn on cob was pretty good but cold Cons: Prices, Not Carolina barbeque as advertised more

great bbq - finger licking good 11/21/2007

just went to baby blues bbq for the first time. and i loved it. had the lunch special with pulled pork and baby back ribs. i have to say that i loved the ribs better than the pulled pork, but both are so much better than chain resturants! i love that they give you a selection of sauces at your table. downside is that this place is a real ""hole in the wall."" and very small for its popularity. we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated and service (though extremely friendly) was a bit slow... but i realize.... you're not paying for first class service when eatting bbq! next time i'll order take out. overall, a really good bbq place. Pros: finger licking good bbq Cons: long waits out the door - bring your iphone or blackberry more

Quit Yer B???'in ? This Place Rocks! 10/30/2007

I have eaten at Baby Blues so many times, I can't give you a number. I have eaten in as well as ordered delivery, and I've tried just about everything. Pork ribs, however, are my favorite food and I haven't had any that beat the ones I get from Baby Blues. The meat is so tender and succulent. I've never had a bad meal. I'm just so thankful to have wound up living in Venice right down the street from such a great place. For those who can't ""smell the smoke,"" ahem, yes. Yes, you can. It's takes everything in my power not to eat there everyday. As for the portions; they are generous. With my ribs, I can choose two sides plus a piece of cornbread to top it off. I'm an oinker, so I will order an extra side, as well as a side of BBQ shrimp or pulled pork that I drown in their tangy sauce. I could drink that stuff. Seriously. No, it's not your thick molassas-y stuff, so if that's what you consider good BBQ, than maybe they aren't for you. But, the meat is so good, you don't even need sauce. As for price, get over it. It's a great deal for quality food, and it's actually not even that expensive. How many places can you go to and create a platter of four meat selections, whether it's pulled pork, baby backs, beef ribs, chicken, shrimp, catfish - you get the idea - as well as 3 sides and cornbread for under $30? Not many. Not many I would want to eat at, that's for sure. Anyway, bottom line, I've eaten here a lot, and I've always enjoyed it. I think people get caught up writing bad reviews, and I equate them with the picky people I used to serve when I waited tables. I don't know why all of a sudden a person walks into a restaurant and they transform into the high priest of food service, and act like complete jerks. Get over yourselves. Stop being mean, and wisen up to the great things the world has to offer - like Baby Blues BBQ! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Price, GREAT BBQ! Cons: I have to smell it everyday, and restrain myself from moving in. more

Pretty disappointed in our experience 10/11/2007

Wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I guess that our expectations were higher than what was served to us. The sides were fine but the meats were not well smoked. They actually seemed to be grilled not smoked. We won't be coming back soon. Pros: sides were fine. Cons: meats had very little if any smoke flavor. more
