Good experience 11/30/2008

I would definitely recommend Dr. Cain and his staff. He's a nice guy and he won't waste your time. He wanted answers to my problem as much as I did and I really appreciate that in a doctor. more

Great Neurologist and Staff 11/23/2008

I've been a patient of Dr. Cain's for several years. I wish I had seen him many years ago. He was able to diagnose my condition after many years of going to different drs. with no answers. He is upfront and honest and doesn't try to sugar coat. I highly recommend him and his office staff! Pros: Dr. Cain is great clinician and very people-oriented. Cons: Dr. Heytens is good clinician, but not very people-oriented. more

The worst experience ever... 10/9/2008

I have been looking for a neurologist for a long time for my migraines. I did some research and several people found Dr. Cain to be a good doctor. So today I called to make an appointment. The receptionists took all of my information and told me to wait for the nurse to call me back and schedule an appointment. I found that to be weird that I had to go through 2 people just to get the date of my appointment. 3 hours later Melissa (the nurse) called me back and started to ask me question that have nothing to do with scheduling an appointment. Not only that but she was extremely rude and unprofessional. She would not let me finish my sentences; she would talk to me with an attitude and not answer any of my questions. After I answered all of her questions I told her that I am in a lot of pain and would like to see a doctor. After all she told me that she needs to see if they can do anything and when I asked her what does she mean by ?IF they can do anything? she said :?Exactly that!? and hung up on me. \r She called me back later and said ?we can?t help you? and hung up on me again. And when I tried to call her right back she didn?t pick up the phone and even the receptionist would refuse to transfer me to Melissa. \r I never got to see the doctor and I hate his facility already.\r While Dr. Cain might be a great doctor he sure needs to pick his staff more carefully. If you have another doctor in mind my advice to you is to go to another doctor. \r Pros: didnt get to find those out Cons: staff more

Knowledgeable, informative doctor who takes his time and is thorough in diagnosing. Helpful staff too. 9/30/2008

Most Informed Doctor Ever! 9/23/2008

I really appreciate it when A doctor and his staff remembers my name, medical history, life changes and events, and concerns. When I have a problem I call the nurse and teh doctor calls me back with advice and issues. So instead of making me come in for every little adjustment he works with me over th ephone. Dr. Cain is genuinely concerned with my issues. Plus it is hard to find a doctor who actually listens to you. It is sad but true. Dr. Cain not only listens but remembers. I highly recommend Dr. Cain to anyone suffering from headaches. Pros: Excellent customer service and adaptability Cons: cant think of any more

Great Experience! 7/17/2008

I had an appointment today and I could not be more pleased. Like most people when you visit the doctor you are not in the best of moods. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a smile. When the nurse was taking my information, she was so sweet and thoughful. Dr. Petroff was very thorough. My best experience was with Teresa. She was very sweet, not to mention very funny. All the while, every member of the staff still kept it very professional. Although I am not looking forward to my next visit, for obvious reasons, it will be nice to see all of the people in the office! Thank You. Cons: paperwork was repetitive more

Unethical, Nonsensical 7/15/2008

I've had multiple disappointing encounters with Dr. Cain. He was very harsh towards me during my initial visit, talking to me in a very condescending manner, not giving me straight answers to my questions and continually trying to shorten our visit (I waited 45 minutes to see him for 8 minutes). He diagnosed me with Adult ADD and told me I was the ""perfect candidate for treatment"" but I was too fat. He told me to lose 50 pounds and get ""those nasty jawels"" off of my neck (my body fat is 16%, I'm 235 pounds but not obese). He gave me a target to reach for my BP and he intended to prescribe me Adderol if my pressure was where he wanted it. My BP was where he wanted it within a very short period of time but he refused to see me and I was forced to deal with his nursing staff over the phone. While they were cordial, they did inform me that even though I had met the requirements Dr. Cain set for me and even though he stood by his diagnosis that I was a ""perfect"" candidate for treatment he refuses to treat me. Furthermore, he said he would never treat me. Very irritated I made the nursing staff confirm that he did diagnose me with ADD, that he did give me a target to reach and that I did indeed reach that target and Dr. Cain still refused to see me or prescribe the medication that he himself said I was in need of. They said I was correct but that there was nothing I could do to change his mind. I am perplexed as well as offended, to be diagnosed with something knowing there's something that will help but not being able to get it is a terrible feeling\r I will never go to Dr. Cain again and I would never recommend him to anyone. A Doctor who will not do what they acknowledge they should do and then refuses to ever treat you for what he diagnoses and stands by defies logic and potentially the health of his or her patients. There are many other capable Doctors in Austin, be advised about this one's incompetency. Pros: Nice office building Cons: bedside manner, patient care, attnetiveness, unreachable more

Always on time 6/30/2008

Dr. Cain is wonderful! He is very inquisitive and interested in my symptoms. I have also seen Dr. Heytens in the same office and she is also great. Everyone I have dealt with at Associated Neurological Specialties is very nice and I'm always seen within 5 minutes of my appointment time! I highly recommend a visit to Dr. Cain's office if you have any neurological issues. Pros: Very knowledgable, always on time more

Medical profession 6/12/2008

I had lost the faith in finding a physician who actually listened and cared about me as a patient.\r In the past year I have consulted many doctors to find that none seemed to want to take the time to listen and treat my ongoing problems with numbness and burning in my hands and feet as well as my history with insomnia. I found Dr. Cain and his staff to be professional and concerned. The immediate response to my complaints were dealt with in a kind manner with a sense of urgency I have not experienced since moving to the Hill Country. Hats off to Robert Cain and his staff. Pros: Immediate and professional service Cons: None so far more

Office Staff 5/23/2008

My records and insurance information were confirmed with their office a week before my first appointment, but of course the day of my scheduled appointment they can find no information about me. One moment my records and information are there, the next moment nobody has a clue, this has happened on more then one occasion. more

Good doctor, but not worth he hassle of his staff 5/8/2008

Dr. Cain is very personable and seems knowledgeable, but I don't know that reading an MRI and saying ""you need surgery,"" makes for a great doctor. He seems to be highly repected in his field for diagnosis, but he said I had an issue with my C8 vertebrae. C8 vertebrae? I'm no doctor and I new better, but he later corrected himself after going over a spine diagram with me. \r \r The WORST is his office. I was bed ridden for two weeks due to a severly hemorrhaged disk that is pinching a nerve. I called his office to set an appointment seven different times over the course of two weeks without a single response from his staff. I finally received a response over two weeks later and set an appointment. But, I had to wait another week before I could come in. So, it took over three weeks just to get my first appointment.\r \r During my first visit he asked me to run downstairs, get an MRI done, and bring it back up to him. So I told his staff what his orders were and they laughed as they set my MRI appointment for the following week. Yep, another week. Well, I showed up for my MRI appointment at 1:00 pm just as Dr. Cain's staff stated on the appointment card, but the MRI office said my appointment was not until 2:45 pm. So, I had to wait almost two hours because of his staffs' error (and they set the appointment). After getting the MRI, I saw Dr. Cain again and he stated that I indeed needed surgery for which he recommended some doctors. \r \r Well, I called the neurosurgeon's office to set an appointment and they needed my MRI and file from Dr. Cain's office. Its been a week and they have not gotten a response from Dr. Cain's office yet. I also have called and left four messages the past week with Dr. Cain's office in an effort to expedite the file transfer so that I may get better, but guess what. No response. I left a message with the nurse, the office manager, and two with the records department. To be continued. Pros: Dr. Cain is personable Cons: Office staff, time to get appointment, lack of communication, no returned calls, doesn't validate parking, I could go on and on more

Dr. Cain essentially gave me back my life 4/30/2008

I had 2 major back surgeries when I was 15. The Surgeon was Dr. Dossett; he is the team back doctor for the Mavs, the Stars, the Cowboys, the Rangers, and the Rodeo Association. I've seen him on HBO and the Discovery health channel. I've seen him converse with Jerry Jones (owner of the Cowboys) about his players. He has performed back surgeries on several major athletic stars. \r \r After my Back surgery, I used Vioxx to control my pain from Sciatica. When Vioxx was taken off the market, I had no replacements that could help me out side of opiate narcotics. \r \r Dr. Dossett could not help me. \r \r I finally found Dr. Cain at a point in my life where the pain had transformed me from a star athlete in high school to a 19 year hold who had to use a wheel chair in the mall and couldn't walk much without a cane after 3 p.m. \r \r The pain made me seriously consider suicide. I just couldn't bare it and the narcotics were terrible. \r \r Dr. Cain helped me fine the proper medication that enabled me to return to a normal healthy life. \r \r I will graduate college in December of '08 as a healthy and happy young man because of Dr. Cain. \r \r Make no mistake, have no doubt, this man can help you! more

Very intelligent and modern Nuerologist who treated me as if I was his only patient. 3/21/2008

I went to see Dr Cain for a second opinion and came away with the decision to stay with him as my Primary Doctor. I took my medical records with me and waited about 15mins for my appointment. Dr Cain listened to me and then started telling me more about my condition then I knew. It was obvious he had read my records throughly and gave me some information from my records that I did not know. His staff setup an MRI that day and Dr Cain reviewed the results with me within an hour of completion, Not Weeks but an HOUR!. The next morning he had another wonderful Dr on his staff perform an EMG and after reviewing the results within minutes he sent me back to her 3 more times to test a different way or area. This meant to me he was actively reviewing her results and wanted more information. I believe with other Dr's this would probably not have been done or would have taken 3 more separate visits and payments. Within mnutes he was sitting down with me and reviewing the results and making recommendations. I believe this would have taken at least a few weeks with any other Dr's I have ever seen.\r I came away with the belief that not only was Dr Cain very knowledgeable but he truly cared. I respect every Dr I have ever seen but Dr Cain took the time to not only really listen but to also fully explain test results. I have had 2 other MRI's in my life but never had I had a Dr point out the films and explain exactly what they meant.\r I have read much about his office staff in the previous reviews but I came away with the impression Dr Cain has a very busy office but I was treated promptly and with respect and friendliness that you usually don't feel in a professional office. I asked the names of Trista and Theresa in the office because they were not only very professional but very friendly. \r RD Smith Pros: Knowledgeable and professional Cons: Choice of far away or expensive valet parking more

Best Neurologist with best staff! 3/11/2008

In 3 decades of seeing all kinds of medical professionals, I've never felt more cared for, at ease, & welcome as I have at the offices of Associated Neurological Specialists. After being a patient of Dr. Robert Cain's for many years I can state unequivocally that he is a supremely skilled, informed, & trustworthy professional, with a bedside manner so confident, warm & witty he makes it a pleasure to go for a checkup. Likewise his staff is always as attentive, concerned & friendly as any I've ever known. They've accommodated my busy schedule, my many questions, my sometimes difficult insurance company, & of course my medical care, as a priority - never making me feel rushed or unimportant, or just another ""number"" like many doctors office's staff do. They're truly exceptional people doing a great service to all their patients & I can't recommend them any higher!. Pros: knowledgeable doctors, friendly & competent staff, good parking, excellent medical care more

Wonderful Doctor and great staff! Fantastic office improvements! 2/21/2008

Although I have been a patient of Dr. Cain's for several years and always considered the care I received from his office to be top-notch, I have noticed some recent changes in his office that have improved my office visits. He has hired an entirely new, extremely friendly and helpful, front office staff. He has also hired a new office administrator and expanded his billing department to four people. His wonderful long-time nurse, Matthews, is still with him and is as conscientious and accommodating as ever. In addition to Matthews, he has hired 3 new friendly and knowledgeable RN's. I feel that this expansion of his staff and the changes he has made have improved the efficiency of the office and have improved the quality of care and response time overall. The office is always very busy, but you can sense the effort to excel. Pros: quality of care more

Best Neurological doctor in Texas!! 2/21/2008

I've been a patient of Dr Cain's for over 7 years now. Not only has he been a great healthcare provider he is a great person in general. I recently had some unexpected life changes and he has always told me what I needed to hear not what I wanted to hear. Also due to him I'm in excellent condition as far as my illness I have. Along with his staff, he has been one of the best doctors I've been with in my lifetime!!! There should be more doctors like him. Pros: Excellent care Cons: Parking more

Outstanding Service 2/19/2008

Dr. Cain is an outstanding doctor and provides care that is above and beyond what most doctors provide in this field. He takes the time to listen, run tests, and focus on resolving root cause of migranes headaches better than any doctor we have seen in 20 years.\r \r His staff is very professional (especially his RN, Sharon Kerr) and they go out of their way to make sure that the patient is receiving the best care. I truly appreciated the positive attitude and the extra support they provided to my wife during our last visit. They are truly an amazing team.\r \r I would highly recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for a doctor that cares about you and your health and does what is needed to help get you back on track! Pros: Outstanding Customer Service Cons: Hard to get into see more

Dr. Cain and his staff are top notch! 1/20/2008

I have been to Dr. Cain a couple of times and appreciate his professionalism and concern for my well-being. He is a very smart man and always considers all of the options. His front office staff is very friendly and upbeat. I also appreciate the time that the nurses took to discuss the problems that I was having. They also went over every detail of my medications and made sure that I understood exactly what to do.\r \r No long wait and nice office. Pros: Good location, no wait, very accessible Doctor and Staff. Cons: none that I can think of! more

Excellent care from Associated Neurological Specialists 8/16/2007

I'm very satisfied with the care I get from Dr. Cain and his staff. They are always courteous and helpful, especially when handling referrals to other facilities for testing. I'm always seen promptly when arriving at the office and am not kept waiting for long periods. Dr. Cain takes the time to explain my test results to me, and answers any questions I have in a straightforward professional manner, without being condescending or overly technical. I found Dr. Cain after relocating to Austin, seeking care for a pre-existing condidion, and have seen several neurologsts in other cities over the last few years. I feel fortunate to have found a good neurologist on my first try here in Austin. Pros: Good quality of care, friendly helpful staff more
