Editorial review from Citysearch 1/30/2013

I took a boot and a purse to get fixed in May of 2012 before the shop closed. I paid $70 to get my items fixed. Not only did they not fix my items, I didn't get them back. So I got ripped off twice. They are nothing but thieves... more

My Shoes Look Great! 2/24/2012

Gotta say, my black dress shoes came back lookin great! They shined them and even used a special hardening wax to fix some tearing at the front of the sole. I was impressed because I was originally going to throw them away. Now they almost look brand new again. I'd definitely go back. The price was reasonable too. $12. A lot cheaper than a completely new pair of shoes. more

You will never see your shoes again 12/14/2011

They charge too much and will keep winter boots that only need a news zipper for months. When you ask for a refund they will play the run around game with you. They are much happier than not to take your money and NOT provide any services.\r \r Go to Macy's, much cheaper and 5 day max wait time. more

Great service! 11/22/2011

I have had nothing but great experiences here, from shoe shines to major repairs. I love supporting a local, small business that has served this community for so many years! more

shoe a new is that deal! 11/9/2011

I been going there since I was a kid, my Dad used to bring me there. Now I bring my son's there to repair my shoes and theirs, ANY KIND, and they ALWAYS turn out excellent! I have brought him shoes from other country's to fix or repair and my experience has always been excellent. I recommend Shoe a New too all my friends and you. Next I am ordering my wife some custom made UGG boots! Where else can you get shoe service like that? Nowhere. more

Craftsmanship takes time 11/9/2011

I've been a Shoe-A-New customer for almost 20 yrs. I am the type of person who invests in articles of clothing, and as such am willing to entrust my garments to Shoe-A-New. They treat shoes and leather goods as a craft, not just job. It may take a little longer, or cost a bit more, but you TRULY get what you pay for more

Tired of waiting? Here are some tips ... 10/4/2011

After not getting any answers about my shoe repair after 2 months, I finally dropped in to the store and asked for my shoes back whether they were fixed or not. One pair was done, the other was not. The owner returned the shoes and a refund for the second pair. I took the broken pair to Macy's, where they'll be fixed in 5 days for half the cost. That's what I'd suggest for all who are tired of waiting, making sure to bring in your claim ticket and credit/debit card you charged the prepayment to. If you have trouble with this, be ready to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Find a different shop. Two that I've had good luck with are Macy's (downtown Minneapolis) Shoe Repair and Fast Eddie's in Dinkytown. ( I have no business interest in either of those.) more

Great place! 9/28/2011

I came in with what some would say was an unreasonable request. But they said that they'd do what they would do their best. And they did it! I would recommend Shoe-A-New to anyone. more

Satisfied Customer 9/13/2011

I brought a pair of dress sandles in for heel replacement and the woman who initially helped me was very friendly, helpful and nice. I enjoyed talking w/ her. She said the shoes would be ready in 7-10 days and they were done early - which made me very happy. Got a call after just 5 days saying they were ready and went over to pick them up. Heels are good as new and the man that helped me, upon picking up shoes, was quite friendly and nice - just like the woman was in the beginning. So, overall, I'd have to say I'd return with shoe needs just about anytime. Loved the store, loved the work they did and loved the service! more

Horrible Horrible Horrible 4/28/2010

I brought 3 pairs of boots in and it has taken almost 3 weeks. When I called to get an idea of when they would be done, I was hung up on, when I called back and spoke to a manager, I was told ""they couldn't pull them out of the line because they would go back to the beginning."" Horrible customer service and overpriced. Cons: everything more

Dont waste the 2 months it takes for a Repair 10/6/2008

I took 3 expensive pairs of boots in to get new soles put on in preparation for the winter. It took them over 2 months and $100 to put on flimsy and already worn down soles on my boots, which made them look completely clunky and werent even close to a similar color as the boots. Black soles on entirely brown boots - Nice! I would not recommend this place to anyone! Pros: Easy parking in front Cons: Slow, expensive, lack of quality more

don't go there 3/22/2008

i WISH i had read the reviews before bringing my 360$ boots to these crooks. i cannot discredit this place enough. \r first of all, it is a complete RIP-OFF. i was charged almost $70 for POOR QUALITY resoling-- the plastic stuff they put on the heels is already flaking off after only a couple of weeks wear. \r there is also a completely toxic environment in there. i witnessed the weasel-like owner treating the friendly elf-man (as another reviewer's description put it) with such disrespect and contempt that i very nearly said something, and would have if the interference of a twenty-something female on behalf of a middle aged man would not have caused the poor guy further humiliation. it was a really sad thing to see. \r and customers, don't expect any MANNERS either. the boots took so long (six weeks) that i had to call. I was spoken to as though i was some insane neurotic. at one point, i asked the guy,in what i hoped was a soothing voice because he seemed to be really spinning out of control, ""why are you speaking to me like this? i gave you $70 to re-sole my favorite boots and it's been six weeks already-- wouldn't you want know what was going on?"" he started shouting at me! and you know, i usually never think that i'm being subjected to misogynistic treatment, but at that moment, ""he wouldn't shout at me if i was a dude"" rang very clearly and with total conviction in my ears.\r when i finally got my boots back, the leather was scratched and warped because they had been thrown into a box with many other shoes. that's how they ""store"" those things that you like so much that you invest money into them when they fall into direpair. when i went to collect them i told weasel that i had never paid so much for such a poor service. i got an ""apology"" that was so charged with hatred and sarcasm that it actually gave me the creeps. the place is a frigging twilight zone. don't go there Cons: rip off, insanely slow and poor quality service, don't store your stuff adequately, bad manners more

Incompetent fools 10/20/2007

I brought in a pair of Coach shoes to be dyed and got them back 4 months later. The shoes came back a mix of the original color and various shades of black. The material is no longer soft and smooth, but rather rough in certain patches and shiny in others.\r \r Not only did they not refund the service fee, they would not replace the shoes. My 'refund' was a gift certificate. Do they really think I'd trust them with another pair of my shoes? Pros: Easy going and friendly elf man Cons: Slow service, poor craftmanship more

I should have known 10/5/2007

I read the reviews for this place but decided to give it a shot. BAD IDEA! I brought my shoes in on June 15th, was told they were going to be ready on July 9th, called July 15th when I hadn't heard anything only to be told that they needed more extensive work that would cost more money. I authorized this and was told it was going to be another month. Well I went to the store on Sept. 25th to find they weren't ready. I explained that I would be coming back in 1 week and if my shoes weren't done that I wanted a refund. OF COURSE THEY WEREN'T done when I went back!. Worse yet, they weren't done because the repair would have taken an hour! I filled out the refund form and we'll see if I get the charge back. Too bad I only spent 28.88 or I might get to take these fools to the People's Court! Pros: The man at the counter was friendly and apologetic Cons: Poor customer service, disorganized, pre-pay more

Stay away 4/9/2007

Do NOT bring your shoes here if you want to see them again or wear them in the same season! I had a three pairs of shoes fixed here and by second pair, I vowed never to bring a pair again, no matter how badly they needed to be repaired. Each time I went in, the shoes were never ready and I stood for 15 minutes while they searched for them. They have absolutely no process there and have no idea how to run a customer serviced business. They never called with updates even though they said they would and if I had stalked them by stopping by all the time, I honestly don't think they ever would have been fixed. They charged way too much and took over one month to finish my shoes. They claimed it was due to being understaffed but even before losing employees, it was the same terrible experience. I think they have you prepay b/c they know by the time you get your shoes back, you will refuse to pay the requested amount. Not offering me any discount was very unprofessional. Although this place is conveniently located by my house, I am now driving much further in order to get solid service in a timely manner. more

No thanks. 2/8/2007

This place is completely unorganized, to say the least. It took them over a month to fix a zipper on one boot, which was over a week longer than promised. When I called a few times to check up on my favorite boots, no one answered the phone or returned my messages. When my husband went to pick up the boots, no one could find them for almost 15 minutes, and when they did, they said that they weren't able to fix the problem and I would need a new zipper. Since they require you to prepay, this is something it would have been nice to know earlier. Pros: Good location, open till 7 Cons: Pre-payment required, slow service more

like a black hole 1/25/2007

This place is a little like a black hole, if you bring your shoes inside you might not get them back out for a while. I dropped a pair off for a heel repair and had to pay up front, which I didn't like because they hadn't even done any work on them. Now, three days after they were supposed to be done it's taken multiple calls to see what the status is, I find out that they'll be done in another 3 days. So a week late total, not impressed.\r If you want to support a quirky, local shop, this is it, but don't expect quick service. Pros: It's run by crazy locals Cons: They take a long time, get ready to hunt your shoes down after dropping them off more

A SHOE-A-NEW in Uptown will SCREW-A-YOU!!! 12/19/2006

A SHOE-A-NEW in Uptown will SCREW-A-YOU!!!\r \r Don't go to this alcoholic shoe shop, please, unless you just want a shine or some laces in your gym shoes replaced, because THEY DO HORRIBLE BUSINESS. I should've known, the dude with the horribly disgusting wax beard who said he ""needed a drink"" was the first sign.\r \r The consequences of not following my instincts after they said they could do a major repair on my Dolce and Gabanna boots, was me showing up on the date they said they'd be ready, ONLY TO FIND 1) THEY HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN STARTED, 2) THEY DIDN'T CALL ME TO TELL ME THEY COULDN'T EVEN DO THE JOB, AND 3) WHEN I CALLED TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER FOR MY REFUND--IT'S DAY 2 AND NO CALL!!!\r \r I completed a sloppy refund form, but a lot that's gonna do, folks. I'm staying on these clowns until I get my $133. I paid with my check card, but those hacks couldn't refund my money on the spot--the dude said he'd notify the owner and he'd write a check asap and get in the mail to arrive to me in 2-4 days. \r \r DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, SAVE YOURSELF A HUGE HASSLE--DON'T GO HERE!!!\r \r When I moved from St. Paul to Minneapolis, I was simply trying to find a local shop, so I wouldn't have to drive to St. Paul for my shoe repair needs, but I was wrong in coming here. Hartland Shoes in St. Paul, my shoe repair shop of almost five years has never missed a beat, always kept their promise, and are friendly and professional. I'm going back to Gene at Hartland Shoes in St. Paul on Hamiline, just off University.\r \r Sincerely,\r \r J Pros: Location Cons: Poor Customer Service, Very Unprofessional Workers more

QUIRKEY but with QUALITY & WAY ACCOMMODATING 11/22/2006

even though I have ayy too many shoes,\r I was in a real bind....\r \r I needed A pair of shoes shined and a heels on my favorite Pradas for a wedding the next day. No other shops in the area were even willing to consider it in the 'busy season' I was told. These guys at shoe-a-new were obviously swamped. I mean , like , there were hundreds of shoes in various stages of repair. Even though they were obvuously slammed with work and scheduling incoming work for 5 - 10 days, They assured me they could 'rush' the job on overtime, after hours . \r I offered double the regular price and was told ""thank you but that is more than the standard rush fee"" , which I was happy to pay. I walked past the shop later that night and saw them working on my shoes at 10:30 pm.\r \r I picked the shoes up the next day. The shine made the black shoes look like new and the heels on the other pair were better than when I bought them [plus they shined them for free as well].\r \r This Place ROCKS! \r I don't know when the 'elves' rest, \r but being accommodated like that, when I was in a real bind was so refreshing.... \r \r I will always take my leather and shoes to shoe a new from now on . Pros: free parking right in front, Rockin helpfull, Honest, open late Cons: had to wait in line 3 min., shop is small and a bit crowded more

Horrible Service 8/16/2006

I took a pair of knee high boots there. I asked them to rush them, the didn't. In fact, it ended up taking longer than expected only to find out when they handed me the boots, they were the wrong pair. He had been asking for the wrong boots. He didn't apologize, but just handed me my boots that were sitting on the shelf for who knows how long. Also, the workmanship was not that impressive. I requested a polish and I could have done the same job myself. more
