Awesome experience! 1/18/2011

I recently purchased my wedding dress from A L'amour and I can't say enough nice things about them. My consultant was Marjory, and she was wonderful! She is very knowledgeable about the gowns, and she is extremely nice. She is like a helpful mother figure in what could be a stressful process. When I picked up my dress, it was gorgeous and fit very well. Marjory was as excited as I was for my dress, and genuinely cares that her customers are happy and feel beautiful. If you are looking for a wedding gown and plan on spending a decent amount of money, go to A L'amour. You do have to have an appointment, and you should know how much you are looking to spend because their dresses start around $1200, but when you come for your appointment you will be well taken care of. more

Bridal alterations 6/28/2010

A L'Amour does not do their own alterations on site. They did, however, recommend 2 seamstresses who specialize in bridal and formal wear. I called both for an appt. - One never bothered to call me back (after leaving 3 messages). The other, Sarah, called me back immediately. I had 2 ""Mother of the Bride"" dresses altered by her (one had to be cut down by 4 sizes) and her work was amazing! She also performed ""surgery"" on a very difficult bridesmaid dress and the results were equally impressive. Sarah is expensive, but when you are spending so much on the dress, you can at least know that she will do the job right. I will use her again and highly recommend her. Pros: Extremely talented seamstress Cons: Expensive more

Bad Customer Service 5/25/2010

I went there looking for my bridesmaid dresses and wanted to come back to try the one I found back on to buy it but they wouldn't find time for me really?!? I will go spend my money elsewhere then. Cons: Don't like your money more

LOVED IT!!! Don't believe everything you read! 10/11/2009

I am very surprised to read all of these negative reviews on here because I have had the BEST experience at this store. Pros: the service, the selection, the employees, loved it all! Cons: A little far from city, but worth every extra minute!! more

place has gone downhill 9/21/2009

I do not support this establishment at all!!! I purchased my wedding dress and bridal veil from this store and had all my fittings done here spending well over 5 grand. When you are getting fitted they do not let you walk around in your dress so I had no idea that later, when I would have to walk down the aisle, I wasn't able to! The dress was too long and I ended up having to carry the dress the entire day of my wedding. To top it off, I tripped over the extra length in the front on the way down the stairs and sprained my ankle and ended up in the ER the first day of my marriage. A l'amour bridal refused to reimburse me for my alteration charges. Which had the dress been altered correctly and they had let me Walk in the dress, we could have avoided this whole fiasco. more

Amazing Bridal Store 1/26/2009

This store is amazing. After being disappointed by 2 other stores in the Chicago area, I tried going to A L'amour. I did not have an appointment & explained to them that I had had a bad experience shopping for dresses so far. They were not busy, so they went ahead and took me to a dressing room and told me they would give me a better experience...and they did! I worked with Carmel and she was great and very patient with me since I was not sure of what I was looking for. She helped me narrow down my decision and I ended up buying a dress and veil that day! Thank you so much! Pros: Excellent service and very helpful staff. Cons: If you are on a tight budget, have other stores in mind. more

A L'Amour Bridal Boutique 9/15/2008

The bridal consultant I worked with was Carmel. She was wonderful. She was very honest throughout the entire buying process. Every time I called to asked questions she either got to the phone immediately or called back very quickly. This salon has everything. They have gorgeous designer gowns, jewelry, shoes, veils, bridesmaid gowns, mother-of-the bride gowns. You will not have to shop anywhere else. I bought my dress 15 months in advance of the wedding and Carmel held everything I purchased at the salon until I picked it up 5 days before the wedding. This included my Lazaro dress, matching Lazaro veil, shoes, bracelet, earrings and hair accessories. The seamstress was also very gifted. They tailored my dress 3-4 sizes smaller and it fit me like a glove. I did have to travel from Madison, WI on Wednesday's to get the dress tailored since that was the only date available for the seamstress, but it was worth it. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience. I visited 15 salons in Chicago and Wisconsin and this was the best salon. I'm so happy with my choice. Pros: Designer Gowns, MOB Gowns, Bridesmaid Gowns, Jewelry, Shoes, Hosiery more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!! 6/10/2008

Be sure to ask for Rhonda, who was absolutely amazing. We had problems with a boutique in St. Louis, so we called A L'Amour and did everything over the phone or fax. The dresses arrived gorgeous, perfectly packed, etc. But the big thing is that when a disaster struck (the seamstress from hell in St. Louis ruined five dresses by hemming them four inches too short!), A L'Amour came to the rescue big time. They ordered replacements for us, but since it was eight weeks until the wedding it was too late. Without our even asking, A L'Amour then CALLED THE DRESS DESIGNER IN NEW YORK! They begged for them to sell fabric and even had them ship it overnight. We found a great seamstress/dress designer in St. Louis who used the fabric to add a pretty ruffle to the underskirt, and the dresses were gorgeous again. I know if we had used another salon we would have had major trouble. Three different people at A L'Amour helped us out, including our salesperson Rhonda, another salesperson and the buying manager. Without their help, we never would have made it through this. I would recommend them to anyone. Our whole experience was great. I can't believe some of the other reviews I read on this website. I think a few bridezillas must have been writing them because our experience was wonderful. Happy wedding! Pros: Incredible customer service more

Worst customer service I have ever found! 3/11/2008

WOW. So I have talked with this company on the phone about 4 times, each time thinking to give them a chance. First time was a Thursday afternoon I called interested in their dresses and they told me they wouldnt give me a price check over the phone on the gown, I asked to come in and they told me it was appointment only. I went on to ask if I could make an appointment for later on in the day and they said there were none available. I decided to forget this company and research other stores. However I keep coming back to the Siri bridesmaid dress line. I had an appointment scheduled for 515 today. I called at noon to find out if I could make the appointment any earlier and they told me that the consultants were all too busy. This is the only bridal store besides Davids Bridal that does not treat you at all like you are worth anything. At 300 / dress and 5 dresses that was 1500 they just saw walk out the door. I would not send my worst enemy to this store. The Complete Bridal Shop in West Dundee, although newer, will answer your phone calls, and drop what they are doing to satisfy your every need. Talk the extra 15 minute drive to visit them! Pros: offer great lines of dresses Cons: extremely rude on the phone, treat you like you can't afford their gowns, overpriced for the quality the store provides. more

I'm really suprised.... 10/31/2007

I wasn't taken at my appointment time, was take 20 minutes later, which would be fine, but I really think they forgot about me. As if that wasn't enough, when I told them what I wanted, the salesperson treated me like I couldn't afford the gowns at their store. I got so upset that I didn't even try anything on. There are plenty of other shops in the area where you could drop $2000 on a gown, I wasn't going to drop it here. Pros: nothing! Cons: Uptight and rude more

You HAVE to shop here! 8/25/2007

I am very surprised to read some of the negative reviews here also having found this site after using the store for EVERYTHING for my wedding! I am glad I didn't see these negative reviews first, as they may have swayed me from going... but that would have been the biggest mistake in planning my wedding. From the first steps through the door, to taking in photos after my big day I was treated magnificently. Pros: Service, Service, Service, Selection, Value Cons: Far from the south suburbs, where I live more

Great Selection, Great Customer Service 5/29/2007

It's funny that I came across this website after I had visited the bridal boutique. It wasn't until after I purchased my dress there, that it dawned on me that I should have read some reviews. I was really amazed at all the negative comments that were placed here. My consultant was Flo and from the moment that I walked out of the boutique until this day, she has been nothing but very professional, pleasant, and helpful! She assited me every minute I was there! Given so many different wedding gowns, it can be overwhelming to choose what you like. Flo actually sat me down to look through a book of dresses and asked that I select the ones that I liked. I took in my own pages that I had seen in magazines. She didn't carry a few of the exact dresses that I liked but she did tell me she had similar ones. She basically asked me to point out what I liked about each one and then she pulled out her own dresses based on the details I liked about the dresses. One of the pictures of a dress I liked in a magazine, they did have. Pros: great selection, great customer service, attentive service Cons: a little on the pricey side more

GO ELSEWHERE 2/28/2007

Too bad I read the reviews after we ordered our Bridesmaid dresses. The service is terrible, once they have your money or order forget it, it's on to the next customer. Totally ignored, don't understand why when their were 5 salespeople standing around and 2 customers. Kept asking questions and it was like we weren't therre. Prices are too high, selection is different and a bit gaudy. Would not recommend, for an upscale are you would think they would cater to you more

Terrible Customer Service 1/13/2007

First the good points: A l'amour has a large selection of wedding dresses in a variety of styles. The lighting is excellent and the dressing rooms are spacious. They also have one of the nicest selections of accessories that I've seen. That said, I will not return to their store because of their terrible customer service. My salesperson left me in the dressing room standing around in my underwear for long periods of time while she chatted with other brides and salespeople. I felt very rushed to find ""the dress."" Towards the end of my appointment, she began a hard sell that would put a car salesman to shame. She would work on me for a while with guilt trips - telling me that I could really save my parents money by ordering today. Then while I was dressing, she would go out and work on my parents - telling them that it would be hard to get me the perfect dress if they waited much longer (my wedding is almost a year away). Despite me telling her that this was an important decision and I wanted to think about it, the salesperson got more and more aggressive and started talking to me like I was an indecisive teenager (I'm a 30 year old professional). At one point the salesperson had the nerve to point out that it seemed like I wasn't having much fun. I was very offended at how I was treated and how lightly they took this decision. I would never recommend them. Pros: selection Cons: service more

Stay away from Margie at A L'Amour! 12/14/2006

While A L'Amour seemed to have a wonderful selection of dresses, Margie was a horrible consultant. She was rude, abrasive, and pushy - only looking to make a sale. She gossiped with other consultants while making her clients wait and refused to schedule appointments at the one time that worked for me because she wasn't at the store at that time- probably afraid she would lose her commission. After my horrible visit, she called to apologize (I think), but ended up telling me I might not be able to get the dress the next time I come in, the dress will sell itself, and if I really want the dress, I'll come back. What kind of customer service is that?? When I called to complain, the manager seemed to care and apologized profusely, but I will never recommend A L'Amour to anyone. Pros: Good Selection Cons: Horrible Service, Staff is Rude, Pushy, Obonoxious - Stay Away!!! more

Amazing selection 8/6/2006

I got my Prom dress here and it was amazing. The people were very helpful in helping me choose the perfect dress. If you're willing to spend around $300+ for a great dress this is the place. My dress was very expensive, but it was well worth it. They also have a selection of dresses that are on clearance if you don't want to spend a lot of money for one. The only negative thing i'd say is that for the amount of dresses they have, the store is too small. It can feel very cramped, but if you give it a chance you won't be disappointed! The best thing is that they'll register your dress for free so no one going to your dance will have your dress, and no one did at my prom. People came up to me all night complimenting my dress and asking where I got it. If you want to be the best dressed at your dance, this is the place to go. I was, and will buy my future dresses here again. Pros: Many different, unique options. Cons: Very pricey for a dress. I recommend shopping here for a very special dress like prom. All sales are final (no returns) so make sure the one you choose is the one you want. more

Horrible Customer Service! 4/17/2006

I went there to order bridesmaid dresses & from the moment I stepped into the store I received nothing but attitude! My appt. was set for a certain time, an hour to be exact & during that whole time Flo K. (one of the bridal sales reps) only helped me & my party twice. She was so pre-occupied on making a sale with someone else that she diregarded my needs & the needs of my party. When I brought the issue up with management they were even worse, I received no apologies for the rude treatment & lack of customer service. We walked out of there completely disappointed & frustrated. I do not recommend you entrust them with handling the details for one of the most important days of your life. It should be left in the hands of professionals & A L'amour clearly is not one of those professionals. more

No apologies, no customer service, rude manager 11/29/2005

This shop, though in Barrington, you would think would be known for class. I have seen none of that in my experience with A'Lamour. My bridesmaid dress order was completely messed up - wrong color came in 5 weeks prior to my wedding. Not only did they not apologize, the manager told me I could always ""use the black dresses if they didn't come in"". Throughout the rest of the process, I had to hold THEIR hand to get the order processed. That is not customer service. For a small boutique, they should have been holding my hand! Also, I was told when the dresses did come in, that ""this sometimes happens."" A mixup on colors of bridesmaid dresses one month before the wedding! Unbelievable. Enough to make an already frantic day more frantic. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND! more

Moody -- ""post-sale"" permanent PMS 3/21/2003

When they want something (a sale)--very accomodating. Once you decide to buy, it's rush on to the next potential sale. You feel like you're trying desperately to be kind and accomodating --that's THEIR job if they want your business! They failed to inspect my veil when it arrived to the store to see that it matched THEIR purchase order--One simple look would've revealed it was the wrongcolor. I had to chase them to get it done right. NO explanation, NO apologies, NO customer service. Just, ""You can use ours for practice hair-runs."" (Which defeated the purpose seeing as theirs were white OR entirely different in length/style from mine). Last time there I said to Carol/manager/owner, ""I sent my mother-in-law here--she was thrilled to find a dress."" Carol was too preoccupied telling her employees about a dress that fell on the floor to acknowledge my complement or hardly even my presence. Pros: Nice Dresses Cons: Customer Service, Make you feel rushed, unpredictable more
