Great atmosphere 1/4/2010

Best food I've had in the Twin Cities. I've never been disapointed with the food. We had dinner for two: appetizer, two entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine for $90. It's a bit more expensive, but totally worth it. Pros: The pan-fried Gnocchi, late hours Cons: parking, reservations are a must more

Quaint place with remarkable food 12/8/2009

It has average staff. The brilliantly huge steak tartare is a must share. I would like to be drowned in a giant vat of their tres leche cake. excellenton selections all around and one of the best gourmet burgers in town! Pros: cuisine, atmosphere Cons: parking, size more

Some good some bad 10/6/2009

I really do like this restaurant. My only issue is that some of the dishes are hit or miss. We went there and enjoyed some of it immensely and well some of the dishes I could have done without. The staff was friendly and the place was welcoming so I think I'll head back here again sometime and give it a second chance. Pros: A few of my faves Cons: Some not so hot dishes as well more

Absolutely horrible 9/9/2009

This place is known among many cooks in the Twin Cities to be the ""it spot"" for a nice melange of tapas style dishes. Our table of six came in and we were essentially ignored. We waited for over a half an hour for our drink orders to be taken. The waitress told us that we ""HAD to order food too, this is not a TGI Fridays."" We were very hungry and had questions about several items. We were ignored repeatedly when we wanted to get food. Finally when our rude server came to the table we asked if we could please order, and she told us the kitchen was closing. We must have tried over 10 times to order, yet it seemed that she could care less about taking an order, or serving bread or even being nice. All we got were rolled eyes, condescension, and a rush to leave. The Chefs from my restaurant were absolutely appaled. We demanded to see Isaac. Three of our cooks had a great working relationship with him. When push came to shove the waitress said firmly ""No! she was not going to get him and to leave now."" All we did was come in and want a meal-together as one of our cooks was going to leave La Belle Vie. That did not stand with us so we called Issac on a cell phone. To his merit he came out and immediately assured us we were going to eat. Our waitress literally glared at us in utter contempt. She brought out our food slammed it on the table and then left us sitting there....no water refills, no offers of any beverage....nothing. We called Issac again and told him how we were being treated, and he comped the meal including beverages, and on top of that bought another round. By then our waitress was seething with anger. We finally called her out wondering why she was so hostile, when we just wanted to eat. She told us she was sick of a-hole chefs and could we just #%$ing leave. We did. In fact we tipped her .01 for her top notch service. With a note on manners. Had she been kind we were prepared to tip her very very very well. We usually do 50% for servers that rule. This one got what she was worth. She single handedly angered our entire bevy of chefs. It's too bad. We used to send a lot of business their way. Not anymore. Not worth the treatment. Although Issac did what he could there simply is no excuse for anything like this in a restaurant. Even an overworked waitress at a late night Denny's has more matters than the miscreant we encountered The server in question was fired we hear. Yet the experience was so disheartening that we will never ever set foot in there again. Pros: Isaac, nobody else Cons: Everything more

112 . . . for those in the know 8/11/2009

Alright, I just reviewed the reviews for 112 Eatery and urge everyone out there to ignore the bad reviews. I've eaten at 112 for years and having just moved to Chicago a little less than a year ago am arriving in town soon and the first thing that I am going to do is take the train from the airport, rush to 112, and promptly order a glass of wine and some steak tartare. Pros: steak tartare, variety of price points, ambience Cons: hard to get a reservation more

Best restaurant in Minneapolis 7/25/2009

Having lived in Minneapolis for going on six years now, I had just about given up on finding a truly outstanding restaurant. But my dining experience this evening at 112 Eatery finally delivered. It was one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. I could go back again tomorrow and the next night, etc. The place didn't disappoint on any level - service was impeccable; both martinis were delicious; and every one of the menu offerings that we tried were outstanding. It was clear the chef has a gift that you don't find often. All I can say is...I hope they are open on Sundays because I want to go back tomorrow - and - to the chef... please don't leave us for a better offer elsewhere. I finally have a restaurant I can truly love here in the TC. Pros: Food, drinks, wine, service Cons: Nothing more

Horror Story 6/9/2009

I called this restaurant two months ahead of time (the maximum time allowed) and asked to reserve a table for my college graduation dinner (My parents and and girlfriend's family were meeting for the first time). The restaurant gladly accepted my reservation. One week before graduation I called the restaurant to confirm my reservation, because they never called to confirm. Not only did they not have my reservation, but they refused to believe that it was their fault. ""Well, for an order that size it would have been one of our managers in charge and I don't think we would have made that mistake."" Really? They acted as though I was trying to sneak into a restaurant that I had reserved 2 months ahead of time. I understand that they are full now, but when a restaurant makes a mistake that messes up the client's graduation dinner they should at least apologize profusely and try to work something out. I am extremely upset and now have to scramble to find another restaurant that can serve 11 people in downtown Minneapolis on a Saturday evening. Honestly the food is probably good, but I wouldn't know, I only know that they have snooty management. Cons: They Failed to Write Down My Reservation more

Wow! 5/16/2009

The May outing of our dinner-of-the-month group of friends went down as everyone's all time favorite. Everyone kept on insisting that everyone else try their dishes, because everyone was so impressed with the flavors, and it was hard to decided which dish was the best regardless of price level. Whether it was the $9 cheeseburger or the $28 steak, everything was executed perfectly and very creatively. Even the french fries were incredible. LIttle surprises everywhere; olives served before the meal tasted of anise, while the bread had a hint of popcorn (not sure how that would be done, but it was very good). The Tagliatelle with Foie Gras Meatballs deserves all the raves it gets in other reviews. The Gnocchi are more perfect than at just about any Italian restaurant in the Twin Cities. Desserts were excellent too (and we usually don't bother with desserts, but assumed the excellence would continue and we were right). The wine list included some good selections by the glass but may have been a bit pricier than elsewhere, although you get a nice healthy pour. Everyone in our party said they want to come back, because there were more items on the menu that we didn't get to try that sounded just as wonderful. Pros: Incredible Food, Great Atmosphere, Reasonable Prices Cons: Need to make reservations way in advance more

Upscale and trendy yet affordable and not stuffy 5/7/2009

I found this place using City Search and I trusted all of the great reviews. I was not let down. We did not make reservations which was a mistake. We still didn't have to wait too long (15 mins), but I still recommend reservations. Our waitress was pretty awesome. She asked if we had questions about the menu and explained some of the dishes to us. She paired us with good wine for our dishes and came by several times to make sure we were ok. I ordered and appetizer, a side and an entree and each was a unique creative dish. The kale w/ pancetta & ricotta salata was phenomenal, as was my appetizer the prosciutto, grapefruit and mint salad. I would recommend this place for a date or even casual dining. There is something for a variety of price ranges. I'd go back for just appetizers and drinks as they have a nice wine menu. Pros: Very creative dishes, helpful wait staff, delicious food, Cons: parking, make a reservation more

One of the best restaurants in Minneapolis!!! Possibly the most creative Chef around!!! 1/1/2009

Went to 112 Eatery for NYE and I must say, it was fantastic. We sat in the upstairs near the windows and our waitress was great. We barely realized she was there...unless we needed her, a drink, or anything, and then seconds later our drink would magically appear right in front of us, calling our names. It was almost like she was reading our minds!!! more

Great experience 12/17/2008

I went there with my husband for my birthday, and it was a fantastic experience. I was nervous at first because the hostess was a little less than friendly, but my server was amazing (Sarah D). The food was fantastic - I will forever need to have their scallops. The texture and flavor were unlike anything else I've had. I wasn't a HUGE fan of the risotto, but I have a feeling it was a personal taste preference and really nothing to do with the risotto itself. The steak prepared asian style was amazing, and the butterscotch dessert was unbelievable. Sarah was extremely knowledgable and friendly and made the experience even that much more pleasant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant - and will be back even if it's just for the scallops after work one day. more

Best in the TC! 12/9/2008

I always love this restaurant! GREAT customer service, and even better food. I wish I had standing reservations... Pros: Great little restaurant Cons: hard to get a reservation in short notice more

A True Disappointment 11/9/2008

My friends and I went to the 112 Eatery expecting to be dazzled after reading all of the fantastic reviews on their website and from bits and pieces of foodie magazine articles commending the restaurant as being the ""IT"" reservation in Minneapolis. I could not have been more disappointed in the service and the food we received there. For starters our waiter, who we were forced to give a 20% gratuity to at the end of the night, was not only a poor server and an arrogant person, but was outright rude to the gentleman in my party that inquired about the 'Prosciutto and Frybread' dish, exclaiming that it hardly needed an explanation. Although my 'Romain and Roquefort' salad was excellent, my Tagliatelle and Fois Gras was overcooked, with sauceless and overseasoned egg noodles that could be lifted off my plate by sticking my fork into the middle of them. The meatballs were delicious, however, even though I could have sworn I ordered a half but received a whole serving. The cauliflower fritters were also excellent, though my companions frybread was nearly inedible as it had apparently been rolled in salt. After this we hardly were interested in dessert or sticking around for an after dinner spirit, and still the whole experience took us 2.5 hours. There are many excellent restaurants out there that are in need of patronage during this economic downturn, this is surely not one of them. Pros: Small, cozy setting. Excellent wine list. Great cauliflower fritters. Cons: Service was dismal, nearly everything was over-seasoned, they force you to pay a 20% gratuity, and it was an extremely long ordeal. more

my favorite restaurant 8/21/2008

I went with 4 of my friends on a Tuesday night, and we were seated promptly with no reservations. One of my friends and I are ""aspiring foodies"" at best, while the rest of our party would have been satisfied with fast-food. Regardless, our waiter treated us very well and did an excellent job explaining the menu and answering our questions. The scallops were perfectly seared and my salmon was delicious. The tagliatelle w/ foie gras meatballs that my friend ordered was equally impressive. My group of inexperienced diners left extremely pleased and I would recommend the 112 Eatery for anybody that is looking for an out-of-this-world dining experience in a laid-back and unpretentious atmosphere. Pros: Atmosphere more

Worth the rush 8/18/2008

I wasn't able to get a reservation except at 5 pm- made on the day of the reservation. I had to be out by 6:30, so it was a little rushed. Realizing that people who had reservations between 6:30 and 9 had made their reservations 3 to 6 weeks in advance, I was okay with that. This place is consistent on the food for sure. Don't blame service or the host, as seems in many reviews, if your mom was 15 minutes late and you made your reservation within the last 3 days and you feel rushed. Take it or leave it, you were told. You can have chain food down the street at this price. It isn't fine dining. It is great food at a great value in a fun New York style atmosphere. Try some of the more unusual things on the menu at a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere. The foie gras salad and sweet breads are fantastic. A cork fee exists to discourage you. They have a great list. Bring in a special bottle if you must, but don't try to be cheap and expect them to say it is no big deal. They mark up wine less than most places. more
