Made the mistake of eating at Saffron two days earlier so the misses here were magnified.

Wow - what an experience! 8/15/2008

I read a fantastic review of the restaurant in Best Life, so my wife and I made reservations for our anniversary. I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews, since they all spoke to poor service, but I thought it would be worth a try anyway. Pros: Unbelievable food! Great service! Cons: No really convenient parking. more

Good food, service lacking 8/5/2008

Went to 112 recently with my wife for my birthday. Made the reservation in advance for 7:30 and was promptly seated upon arrival by a friendly hostess. Sat down and our waiter came over to take our order for drinks. Drinks were served along with a plate of olives and seasoned almonds which were very good. The waiter was pretty knowledgeable of the menu and answered our questions with detail. We then placed our order and nothing happened for a long time. Another table that was seated after us received a basket of bread and we had to ask for it. The waiter came and servied my wife more wine, spilled on the table, and didn't even bother to clean it up. My wife dropped her knife on the floor when our waiter was walking by and he didn't even offer her a new knife - we had to request one from the bus boy/food runner (by the way, this younger gentleman was probably the nicest server in entire place). Pros: Food was good Cons: Service was garbage more

Seriously Flawed Wait Staff at 112 6/19/2008

I almost chose to ignore writing about my recent experience, except for the fact that there were other stories on this site that were of an identical nature. My two bits are that the food tends to be exceptional and I have eaten there more than a dozen times. This past weekend, however, we experienced what I would characterize as boderline hostile service from not just one staffer, but the whole group of 'upstairs' servers. They must have felt belittled by being sequesterd to the second floor, much as our group felt initially. Once we settled in, we were very happy with our table, but the experience went downhill from there. We simply couldn't get any attention and when we did it was contrite and offensive. Asking for something, as simple as parmesan cheese for our pasta was an imposition. more

Come if you like great food and don't mind being treated like dirt. 6/16/2008

I ordered the tagliatelle w/ foie gras meatballs, which came out with cheese sprinkled on top. Upon its arrival, I noticed that there was cheese sprinkled on my dish. Not usually liking cheese on my pasta I kindly mentioned it to the waiter, and said that I didn?t hear any mention of cheese from his description of the dish or my reading of the menu. Instantly he replied in what we all interpreted to be in a rather smug tone, ?Yes, it does have cheese?we can?t list every single ingredient of the dish on the menu.? The look on his face that accompanied this remark was one of condescension. After we lodged a complaint the management was kind enough to call us and express their regrets about our experience, but did not believe there was any wrongdoing on the part of the waiter. While I was willing to overlook our waiter?s poor service, his bad attitude, and his large butt that repeatedly bumped our table, it was much more difficult to forgive the restaurant management for calling us to tell us that our perceptions were incorrect and that her wait staff could not be at fault. Apparently, 112 Eatery only delivers good service to their critics, not necessarily their patrons. Pros: good food Cons: poor service, rude waitstaff more

Giving it another shot tonight! 5/7/2008

I went here for my friends birthday, none of the previous people who have commented. The waitstaff spent the entire time we were trying to eat dinner rearranging the tables for some party, dragging the tables and chairs across the floor making our table vibrate, over and over again to the point we were all laughing at them because it was clearly excessive and we must be on candid camera or something. I ordered steak, which I spied my friends steak and her's looked juicy and delicious. I had a peice with a giant fat vein in it or something so it was very unappetizing and not that great. I should have sent it back but you dont want to have to rain on someones b-day just because you spent $35 on a crappy peice of steak.... Pros: good food Cons: expensive more

Bad reviews not deserved 4/29/2008

I just have to respond to the past two reviews. The reason they ask you to mind your reservation is that frequently it takes diners at least 2 hours to dine there, (slow food = good food) and they are booked for sometime in advance for premium times (7:00pm). The food here is second to none. As far as it taking your mom 15 minutes to find parking, perhaps she should put on her big girl pants and pay at the pay lot DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET. C'mon people, you are eating downtown, not at the Maple Grove Applebees. Pros: THE best food, Tres Leche Cake, perfect quaint personable ambience Cons: I wish I lived upstairs! more

Rude, even on your birthday 2/27/2008

I was honestly pretty surprised to see someone had already written a review with the exact same experience titled, ""Not the way to treat their customers"" Pros: Location Cons: Service more

Not the way to treat their customers 2/13/2008

When making our reservation for 5:30 on a recent Friday night, we were told we would need to come by 5:00 and leave by 7:00. Although 5:00 was a stretch for us, the two hour window was fine. We got there at 5 when there were already several people ahead of us in line. We waited in the cold while staff went from the hallway through the entrance door, which was immediately locked behind them without even a nod to the customers standing in line. The implication seemed to be that they were afraid we would storm the place. more

Resting on their laurels 1/31/2008

Oh, we used to love this place! We've even chosen to spend the past few New Year's there. What a disappointment it was this year. No hats, no sparkling, no announcement it's midnight! Noticed lots of new servers, and it really felt like the ""B"" squad was in the kitchen: the steak tartare was so salty. I appreciate old favorites on any menu, but to have nearly the exact same menu in winter as in summer in Minnesota speaks of a lack of imagination. It really feels like they know they've got reservations into the next decade, so, really, don't worry. If service is less than attentive, if you have to wait for your reservation, if you can't think of new dishes for your menu: so be it. They're still coming, aren't they? more

BEST IN TOWN BY FAR!!! 12/31/2007

As always I have never left this place without being completley wowed. The new dessert with the red salt on top of the pudding was absolutley to die for. I have always thought this was the most consistent accesable amazing resturaunt in town. I wished I lived upstairs so we could eat here every day . Not one dish ever left all persons at the table wanting to talk about it and share. Nice Work!!!! Pros: FOOD,WINE,SERVICE,AMBIENCE Cons: PARKING,RESERVATIONS more

Amazing...Delicious...Exquisite 9/17/2007

I would say that this was the best meal I have had in Twin Cities in a very long time. Food just melts in your mouth, there is a great variety of interesting dishes and wines. There large list of affordable appetizers and most of main dishes also come in half portions. My partner and me decided to order several appetizers and half portions instead of 2 large entrees. Amazing dishes: Pros: The BEST food in the city, interesting and diverse menu, great wine list Cons: Very popular, which means making reservations is recommended more

The BEST Late Night Dining 5/3/2007

I have eaten here on several occasions and the only time I didn't find myself enthralled with this place was when I brought my brother for dinner for his birthday. It was his first time there and my first time being there during dinner rush (our reservation was for 7:15pm) and I suspect it will be our last. We ordered and everything was as timely a could be expected during a busy dinner, and our service was fine, but having been there before, I found the food to be just good, rather than excellent, like I'm accustomed to at the 112 Eatery. Luckily, my brother, having nothing to compare it to, had a great experience and we all had a good time. I'm glad we had a weekday reservation and not a weekend one! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Fits wide price range Cons: Hard to find close parking, Extremely cramped if really busy more

wonderful - european type bistro with scrumptious eats and friendly service 3/16/2007

I have visited 112 Eatery 3 times and enjoyed the wine list (unique and tasty) and food quality every visit. The spicy olives & nuts that come to your table right away are so fun and flavorful and each menu item I tried has been of highest quality. Pros: ambience, food Cons: just so busy, sometimes hard to get in more

Good experience 12/22/2006

My son made reservations at 112 eatery for his birthday. I read the reviews in city pages and was very skeptical. However it was a delightful experience. We were seated immediately at 7 pm. The waitress was attentive and the food very good. We sat upstairs and it didn't smell at all. I would highly recommend it. Pros: food and service Cons: off street parking more
