JUST LIKE HOME 4/10/2010

I go there to play with the pups, they are adorable. The people who work there are very helpful and full of helpful information. I did not buy my dog there because I made my purchase before they were open. I do bring my dog there for grooming, they are fabulous. I am a hairdresser and respect the way they follow my directions and also make suggestions. I think it is a wonderful business. Pros: clean, reliable, and caring Cons: haven't come across any!!! more

Baby died after 4 days 3/20/2010

My bf and I purchased a 9 week old baby Cockapoo (Biscuit) on Sunday @ VanityPups and the poor baby died on Thursday. Mike and the girls at the shop provided excellent customer service and went through everything with us upon buying the puppy. We felt so comfortable with them and left with this baby. By Tuesday night we were in the Vet with her (Bayside Animal Clinic) bc she wasn't eating, seemed lethargic and had diarrhea. The Vet said it may be due to the stress of a new home, sent her home with some vitamins to give her for the week and that was that. By Thursday, same symptoms, worse diarrhea, vomiting, and the poor thing could barely lift herself. I scheduled an appt. with Bayside Animal Clinic that same day and when I walked into my apt. to pick her up, she was practically lifeless laying in her own vomit and diarrhea. I RAN to the vet with her. They brought her to another room for an IV and I was then told that she was doing a little better but was going to be brought to the Emergency hospital to be looked after overnight and tested to determine what was causing her vomiting/diarrhea. I received a call that same night stating that she died. We were never told what the actually puppy was ill from. Mike was informed and business wise, did handle the situation very appropriately, offering a full refund and apologizing profusely for the situation. Regardless, NOTHING can possibly make up or comfort us around this horrific experience. We were clearly sold an ill puppy by the store and I believe the clinic may have sent her back way too quickly without a thorough exam. In the days we had her we provided a loving, safe environment and did everything we could for this little baby. It was a traumatic experience that NO ONE should ever have and I would HIGHLY recommend not purchasing a puppy from this place. To add to all of this, our puppy is STILL posted on their website, which is apparently updated every Wednesday. If you go to ""Our Puppies"" on their page you will see our little baby Cockapoo_784. Please look elsewhere. Pros: Customer Service, Adorable Puppies Cons: Sold very sickly puppy, heartbreaking experience more

not all it appears to be 2/27/2010

We bought our havanese there. We are first time dog owners. The staff was excellent in preparing and explaining everything to us. We truly love our little boy. I would recommend this place to buy a puppy. Their grooming service is another story. This young lady Sarah used to work there and customer service was excellent. I had my dog groomed there one day while Sarah was still employed at that establishment, but she happened to not be there the day of my dog's grooming. I picked him up and everyone was overly polite and loving towards him. I could tell something had happened to him just by the way he was acting. When I got home, I noticed a large cut with dried blood on his hind leg. I called the store and they stated that I had to talk to the owner, who was unavailable - even though I had just seen him in there when I picked my dog up. The following day I called and Sarah answered. She heard my concerns and stated that she was truly sorry that had happened and proceeded to state that she would issue a complimentary grooming for the troubles incurred since I had purchased the dog from them and continued to use them for grooming and feeding needs. Sarah stated she spoke to the owner and that she would enter the notes into the computer and to bring him in at whatever time in the future I felt he needed another grooming. Two months later I went to the store asking for Sarah and I was told she no longer worked there. When I asked about the credit approved by the owner, I was told that there was no credit and that the owner didn't know anything about it. Personally, I believe Sarah did what she said and that the owner was too greedy to go through with the credit. I would rather that my dog not have been injured and no credit issued. I was further told that there was nothing they could do and that injuries sometimes happen. ( At least tell the owner about it and not try to cover it up !) And so, I had a positive experience purchasing the dog, but a negative one with the grooming. Pros: excellent customer service Cons: a bit pricey more

What a place! 11/11/2009

Definitely a great choice my fiance and I made.. We've been going to visit periodically for about 2 years, how can u not with all the pups in cribs, and the girl there always remembered who we were! Finally we fell for a little shihpoo, soo cute! I did get the breeders phone number and did get photos of the parents, which was a sigh of relief considering all the things you hear about puppy stores. The girl there is great, she's uber nice and what a memory she has! She even remembered my cousins sick dog I told her about probably like a year ago and she even asked about the dog when she saw me, totally shocked me she remembered.. more

Cool People 11/10/2009

I live in jersey, but I did get my dog from there. I got a Pomeranian who I still bring back to be groomed. It's a small nursery family owned and run, and when they know who you are well, they're all always very inviting. I even buy they're products, I still buy wee-wee pads, clothes for my dog, food etc. Just sucks they are so far away from me, every time I go back I feel like I need to stock up for a natural disaster. Thanks Guys, see you in a few weeks for a grooming, not for me, my dog =) Pros: great people Cons: far from me more

great place! 11/10/2009

Every now and then in the last year n half since I've moved to bayside, I have walked into the store browsing around to see if there was a dog I was interested in or not. There is a girl there who is extremely pretty with long hair and a great memory! I always seemed to gravitate to fluffy bigger dogs and never really felt a connection with any of them. One day I walked in and fell in love with a pretty Cockapoo puppy, and right away I was sold. They're dogs have always been very socialized and don't pee on people! LOL I have always been scared of that. The girl helped me with training, with feeding, everything, and I even randomly call to ask questions when I'm concerned about something in regards to my little girl. I get my dog groomed there from time to time and still stop in to visit. The one thing I will say, don't let the vet care steer you away from a good experience. I have had a bad experience in the past with the vet they use, but I just got all my free stuff and left to my own vet. Central Vet tries to rip off customers every which way they can. They wanted $600 to spay my dog, my own vet charged me $250. Explain why they are more than double the price?! Thank you Vanity! Pros: wonderful sales girl Cons: vet care terrible more

Thank you! Vanity Pups 10/29/2009

I have been looking for a paticular types of toy poodle puppy quite a long time but finally I found one. Pros: Best Puppy store in Queens more

Vanity Pups no store is better 9/25/2009

Not only was the customer service there great but the puppies are so adorable. Mike is dedicated and devoted to puppies. He helped me choose my brand new puppy which I just brought home yesterday. He was very patient in helping me find my puppy by sending me emails of pictures and letting me come by the store to play with them to get to see their personality. I traveled all the way from long island just to deal with vanity pups and Im glad in my decision. Not only is the set up of the store nice and friendly puppies are placed in cute little cribs, and they get to play around not like many other pet stores that keep them behind a glass cage. I love vanity pups and I recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a puppy. One of the workers there her mom is an animal activist against puppy mills. We were also provided with free vet care for the first 3months. And even a care package with a ball chew toy, blanket, and food. Vanity pups is the standard that all pet stores should base their stores on. I am looking forward to bringing my yorkie back to vanity pups to pick out some clothing and to see mike again. Pros: wide range of puppies , clean pet store, nice, funny Cons: no cons more

Do NOT buy a dog here 9/1/2009

Since I live in the area I would always stop in Vanity pups just to look at the cute puppies; the place is really adorable. I will give it to them for presentation; the puppies are in little bassanettes, the store is very clean, and they have nice merchanidise displayed for the pups. They also have a great sales girl there, she really knows her stuff about the dogs and answers all questions; shes great. One day I was in there and fell in love w/a little yorkie and before I knew it I was taking her home. Later that night she was sneezing and coughing a little so I took her to the Bayside Vet (who Vanity Pups works with) the next day. They told me she had kennel cough and gave me meds to give her. After about 2 days the meds werent really doing anything and her cough was getting worse; I had to rush her to another vet. Well my little baby didn't have kennel cough, she had full blown bronchitis and if I didn't get her to a vet when I did she could have died. The new vet informed me that this didnt just develop over the 3-4 days I had her; she told me I was sold a sick dog and gave me an unfit for sale form to bring back to Vanity Pups! Now since I took my puppy to another vet I had to pay the vet bill out of my own pocket, so now i was out about $200-$300. I went back to Vanity Pups to try to get my money back. The owner gave me a bit of a hard time but after about an hour going back and forth he gave me about 80% of my money back that I spent at the vet. At that point I just wanted to get out of there so I took the money and left. After this happened to me I looked these guys up online and saw some pretty bad and disturbing reviews. I do not regret getting my puppy , I love her and couldn't imagine being without her now; but I would never go back to that place again. more

GREAT STORE 8/12/2009

It was a great experience i was a little scared to go to Vanity pups because of the bad reviews, but a came across some good ones too, give them a chance to check them out, like they say just judge for your own experience, and that's what we did. Is a great place employees are great they help you in every sence of the word, owner wasn't around but with employees like that i know why they're so confident. The puppy that we got is a yorkie love it, so fr no big problems the normal stuff, and every time we have a question we call them up,is a great boutique as per the prices on the clothes, bags, and accessories what can i say is a BOUTIQUE you pay for it......is a great friendly environment, we love the experience , thanks for all the help girls!!!!!!!! Pros: gorgeus puppies Cons: the vet more

A Must Must must 2/8/2009

I already have one dog (a Havanese) and my friend gets her dog groomed at Vanity PUps. One day I went to the boutique with my friend and I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS LITTLE YORKIE! I couldn't help myself, I had to take the pup. There were two girls working there walkin around cleaning and joking around, very friendly. At first I got reprimanded for putting my hands in the cribs but one of the girls took the little Yorkie out for me and it was love at first sight. The only problem I had at the moment was the price. They wanted $1600 for my little baby, but I can see why, I walked into somewhere called ""a boutique."" They did offer me a lot that price tho, I have to say, vet care, grooming, discounts on merchandise. I left with my friend while her dog was being groomed and I couldn't help myself, after we ate I went back and starting bargaining. I have to admit the taller girl (i think the manager) was very accommodating. She really took the extra step and called the owner and got me the deal. The other girl sat down went over the contract step by step and I still couldnt remember anything, so the moment I got home I called them up and harrassed them for 3 days straight lol. Long story short, they were extrememly helpful, answered my quiestions, everything. My pup did get sick when I took it home, but they waked me every step of the way, they were 50 times more helpful then the vets they recomend. USE YOUR OWN VET! Pros: nice store, cute stuff, great employees Cons: HATE THE VET THEY WORK WITH! more

Thanks 12/9/2008

I am in the process of getting a dog. I have been doing alot of reseach on the breed that would be best suitable for our family. Can't seem to find one on petfinder, I guess I will have to keep looking. I came across Vanity Pups via the internet and decided to check the ratings - thank goodness I did as the two that were posted said not to do business with them. Thank you both for your review of the petshop Vanity Pups, I will look elsewhere. more

Just pick a puppy with caution...once in while a puppy is sick from day one.... 12/2/2008

Just be careful...I purchased a miniature schnauzer... Immediately my puppy was sick....and their recommended vet...Bayside Animal Clinic, Dr Charo saw her twice in 5 days and twice sent her home telling me she had a cold and gave me antibiotics for her! I ended up placing her in a hospital of my own choosing where she spent 4 days, she was not getting better so I had to end up relinquishing ownership back to the store owner Michael Berger and transfer her to his animal hospital in Valley Stream! I do not know the puppys outcome! I hope she is ok! Cons: The requirement to see their recommended vets more

Cockapoo Puppy 11/18/2008

I bought a great Cockapoo puppy here, price ok for Bayside but no bargain, salesgirl very nice and informative. Tried to sell us the usual stuff and offered discounts on grooming. Dog had great curly hair, looked like a mini sheep dog. Brought him in for a grooming (he was matted) and asked he be returned shaggy. Michael said the matted sections (mainly underbody) could be cut short but recommended a dematting which took longer and cost more. I said give him a normal trim but leave head, face and body shaggy as he could. When my wife picked up the dog he was shorn like a sheep. Someone had obviously taken clippers and trimmed the entire dog from nose to tail. They were busy and this was probably fast. They even shaved the legs and ears. The dog looked terrible. I called and spoke to Michael who said he was told ""to do what he had to do"" and I must have misunderstood him. They shaved the dog bald so it could grow back to ""look the way it should"". Obviously he knew what my kids liked better than me. I might buy a dog here but forget the grooming or any spa services. Pros: Great dog Cons: Poor grooming more

Best Experience 11/14/2008

Well I did read the other two review and I have not had a problem what-so-ever. I bought two dogs (Pomeranian siblings) from there and recently sent my best friend and her boyfriend to get a dog there (a yorkie). The owner of the store (Michael I believe was his name) sat down and with his cheesy jokes made me feel comfortable buying from them. The other 2 girls who are there are also very friendly and I usually end up sitting and having conversations with them while I wait for my dogs to get groomed, which is also part of their services. I just recently moved to Manhattan and I still enjoy coming down to the store and making the drive. As far as the puppymill concern, I googled one of the girls last names and her family came up everywhere as activists, and not nly that I got a hold of the breeder for my 2 babies and I got pictures of the parents and the whole lineage. Well thats my $.2 on my experience. - Briana Pros: family like environment, clean more

RUDE SERVICE 2/5/2008

I walked in this shop to find a puppy and of course had many questions to ask in making such a long term commitment. They owner or manager did not seem to care that I was excited and had these questions, it seems that they just wanted to make a quick sale and rush me out. I just read the previous writer's review and wish that I read it before I wasted my time here. Also, I looked at some of the items they had for sale there, like pet beds and clothing and they were soo expensive. Pros: ????? Cons: NASTY SERVICE more

Buyer Beware 12/19/2007

Please do NOT buy from pet shops like these. They say they get their dogs from breeders but a reputable breeder would never sell to a pet shop. They would want to meet you. They say their dogs come from the midwest (areas where puppy mills are prominent). They charge incredible prices for these dogs, and believe me all the dogs are cute but you'll just be funding these horrendous backyard breeders. And DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE TERM ""TEACUP"" IT DOES NOT EXIST!!! teacups are runts of the litter who generally are not as healthy as their litter mates. Size is never gaurunteed. The term ""teacup"" should always raise a red flag that the seller is being dishonest! Please do your research before buying!!! Go to petfinder on the internet they have tons of animals for adoption and all you pay is $200-$300 for the medical bills. You can even find puppies on there. more
