TLC = Terrible, Long waits, Costly 6/23/2011

Let's start w/the wait. I brought my cat who sits calmly in a carrier bag even after the hour long wait and a room full of dogs. After a 3 minute check by a nurse the Dr came in and after ""feeling my cat up"" suggested a tumor or blockage in the intestine. Without even an xray the Vet then rattled off fees up to $5000 and asked me how far I was willing to go... To which I answered, "" right back out the front door."" Ridiculous. For that amount I would've taken my cat to Vegas and had a magician tell me what was ailing her. The only way my cat would've received better care is if she had a magnetic strip attached to her tail that was connected to my debit account. more

HORRIBLE 3/3/2011

A disgusting and unfriendly staff - truly hated my experience and walked out. They explained a price over the phone and then a rather rude office manager came in with an invoice for over double the initial quote. Her attitude was beyond frustrating - there is a reason this place has two stars. more

GREAT CARE for my Kitties 12/8/2010

I am really stunned by all the bad reviews. I have been taking my two kitty thier since I got them from a shelter. They have always been super nice and caring and Dr. Heibert is great. One of my cats got very sick and had to be hospitalized, they worked with my on the bill and even got the maker of the vacine to cover some of the cost. They are a bit expensive, but I have never had to pay before they would see my pet. It is like $120 for an after hours emergancy visit...and they go through the costs...before they do additonal treatments.\r \r Maybe these other reviews are slanted becuase people lost thier pets. I would check TLC out for my self. more

once in an emergency, and great1 8/28/2010

My dog got punched in the face by a raccoon on our fence and fell back on tail. She couldn't get comfortable, kept pacing but every time she laid down she'd whimper a little when she bumped tail. I brought her in to TLC, the vet could feel it was badly sprained, not broken. Needless to say my dog was muzzled. Was in and out of there in 25 minutes with pain pills and Rimadyl and, although I don't remember what I paid, it was not enough to gasp about. Will definitely go there again in an emergency. For all of you who need animals put to sleep, call 911VETS, and they come right to your house and do it. Have used Dr. Weinberg in the West Hollywood area and every time he has been there within a few hours. Kind, gentle and please don't stress out your animal anymore by bringing them to a strange, cold, sterile vet's office. Don't we all want to die in our own bed? more

Long Waits, High Prices, Condescending Attitudes 8/20/2010

After several disappointing experiences with this place, I will no longer be taking my pets here. more

Took amazing care of my girls 1/25/2010

My girls just went to heaven in November. TLC tried valiantly to keep one of them going even though her kidneys were failing. We are talking about large dogs who were about 19 and 20 years old. It was their time and we tried everything. I have been taking the girls to TLC for about 11 years. They were kind, helpful and the staff knew the girls and did everything they could. I will continue to take our cats there and trust the doctors Mahaney, Hebert, and Baker with their care. Pros: Very loving and caring of elderly pets Cons: Can be expensive but in line with other vets more

The Worst Heartbreak of my Life 10/10/2009

My partner and I came here in tears with our beloved 14 year old cat on his deathbed. His health had been failing, and expensive treatments could no longer keep him alive. Not being able to bear seeing him suffer any longer, we brought him to the hospital expecting him to be put humanely to sleep. Instead, they gave us a $500 estimate (for starters) on his treatment. It was obvious to us, knowing and loving him so much, that he was no longer even the same cat, and that his life was at the end. But we listened and went home with a large series of medicines and daily injections. After ariving home, we could see that he was getting worse and could not even take the medicines, or eat or drink. We waited a few hours, to see if he improved. All he could do was cry and stumble around the house from one place to another, and then lie there with his eyes staring and cloudy. I called the clinic back, and told them what was happening. They insisted on hospitalization at a minimun cost of $800, and ignored by plea to have him put down. It was too much to take, so we called our old vet in Silverlake and drove an hour in rush hour traffic to have him put to sleep. He died in my partner's arms on the way. Neither of us had ever experienced such a heart wrenching experience in our lives. There was no reason other than greed to put our sweet companion or us through so much pain. Pros: kind of close to my house Cons: cruel and greedy more

It all depends on the Vet you see here 8/29/2009

Dr. Monica Revel is practicing here a few days each week, and she is FANTASTIC! A lovely, intelligent, and caring Vet and HUMANE being. A Davis educated Vet, and in the Vet world that is like going to John's Hopkins or Georgetown. If you can see her, come here, or if it is an emergency ask if she is on that day. It is West Hollywood, so depending on who is on the front desk, be prepared for West Hollywood prices and attitude. I have found that if I come in and there is someone who knows me I get better service than if it is someone I do not know. I have found that Nicole and Steve are real sweeties, but you have to treat people civilly. Remember they are people too, and they see the most stressful and distressful things day in and day out. The staff I know are animal lovers. Yes, one knows in an emergency that people act without thinking, but if you can be nice, they will treat you well. Perhaps it is because I am a long time client, but when my kitty was dying last year of FIP and he was having seizures, they whisked me right in a room, and everyone was so caring and sweet during his death and during the aftermath of his death. Albeit, everyone knew my kitty and loved him there. The waiting room was PACKED that day and I waited all of two minutes for a room. Perhaps it depends on who is on that day or night, or just the chemistry of the situation. However, I will say that before we followed Dr. Revel here from VCA Bev Hills, we avoided this hospital because of a bad experience here from years before. The ONLY reason we come here is because Dr. Revel is here, if she moves, we move with her. If I won the Mega Millions tomorrow I would build her a Veterinary Hospital all for herself. I would also suggest that all pet owners to do what I do, either get a basic emergency pet insurance through the Humane Society, a CareCredit card for vet bills, or put aside a minimum of 5K for pet emergencies, because veterinary care is expensive and they want to be paid up front. However, so do my human doctors. I am so sorry for the people who had bad experiences, but as I said, if you can get Dr. Revel, go here, if not, well I'd think of going elsewhere. On a side note, if you are there for a routine exam, you sometimes see the most interesting people in the waiting room, and it is neat to see what kind of pets they have. Pros: Dr. Monica Revel, Nicole, Steve & celebrity sightings Cons: It can be expensive, and you need to be civil to the staff more

THIS RIP-OFF VET HOSPITAL IS OWNED BY A LAWYER> 8/15/2009

What I understand is that a lawyer Krieger owns this ripoff vet hosp. just read all the bad reviews. would stay away and find a vet hosp owned by a vet.\r ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AT TLC.. avoid them Pros: NONE. ZERO GOOD THINGS. Cons: EXPENSIVE, RUDE, TERRIBLE MEDICINE. STAY AWAY more

Okay for Shots and Accepting of APBTs, but Not the Best 7/15/2009

Expensive and crowded, but welcoming of APBTs. They provided standard vaccinations, but prescribed an antibiotic for a hot spot without asking us first. Unfortunately, they are also not good in an emergency. When our dog had unexplained bleeding it took the staff hours to see her and address the issue - they left her bleeding in the waiting room - and eventually we were sent to another animal hospital. more

Beware TLC 6/24/2009

I have written about this establishement on other sites, and yesterday my sister discovered City search. so many complaints and they are identical to mine. It made me sad I had not read these reviews before taking my jack russell to them 2months ago. He was bit by a snake in the canyon. I rushed to go to sepulveda with his little brother bosco at our side, frankies head was swollen. I passed TLC and thought , great, so close, WRONG. i rushed in, they took frankie to the back. i waited, I waited, aprox 45 mins. finally they took me to small room Iwaited another 30 mins. Dr. H comes in, very uptight. he proceeds to tell me about my dog. Itry to ask questions and he ssshs me . arrogant man. i go back to see my dog, its painful to see him, after another 30 mins i walk to the front desk, I am tackled by two workers OK WE NEED $3400 DOLLARS.. what?? I mean they act like thugs, I say umm, what, WE NEED THIS NOW, I say I can give $1500 . no, we need full amount. they go to doctor, he oks $1500 but bal must be in by 10am . The amt is so high, its crazy, i am so upset by dog. and not this. they call that night for me to authorize another $300 charge at 1am, I say ok. I read reviews the next day since this seems so odd, so many people, the same story as mine. I tell the woman i am taking my dog, NO YOU CANT TAKE YOUR DOG, I say yes, I CAN TAKE MY DOG. I write a letter to the doctors, tellng them i am very upset with this place, my friend says, you should never send a letter like that while your dog is still there. that night the arrogant doctor H calls, fake crying, yes, crying, YOUR FRANKIE HAS PASSED, I never hear from the doctor again, he had said only one dog in 8years had ever died from snake bite. (was this to make me tolerate the coninual pumping up of my bill?) next day they hand me his body in a cardboard box out by the garbage cans . and tell me that I still owe $287.00 .. read the other sites and this site. this place needs to change. they dont care about animals, just $$$ . I am locating the attorney who owns TLC and demand changes or closure of this terrible establishment Pros: hopefully you are warned before you lose your pet. I did Cons: this establishment only cares about the $$$ more

if you love your animal..do not go here 6/23/2009

This place certainly let one of my family members pets die plus wanted 3000.00 dollars for it. He could not afford an autopsy to prove what they did (and what vet would testify another vet anyway).TLC kept pumping up the bill and demanding more and more money for a little snake bite. I researched and found out that animals rarely die of snake bite which really gives me the creeps after reading other people's accounts of their animal dying at TLC. When i read reviews by all these ""perky"" people that just love this place, i know they are not real reviews. I just can't understand why the government organizaitons that are supposed to protect consumers are totally blind to all the things that go on at this center. I am totally in shock that these guys are allowed to keep operating. Pros: in our neighborhood Cons: rip-off vet center owned by lawyers more

They chose not to help tonight 1/17/2009

I brought my dog Flower there tonight in a emergency. They could have chosen to help her but instead they expected almost 2000- . Since I couldnt afford that, we had to leave . My dog Flower died on my couch 1 hour later. I 100% blame them . they could have chosen to let me make payments. Never take your dog there unless you can afford it.\r Cons: they could have chosen to help but they didnt . more

Great Place, friendly staff. Avoid the reviews! 12/30/2008

We've been taking our cats to TLC for years, and have only had a very positive experience. When one of our cats had to be put to sleep, we received a condolences card signed from the entire staff at TLC. Today we had to take our kitty in and almost went to another vet because the reviews we saw were so terrible, we were horrified. The biggest mistake would have been if we didn't go back to TLC.\r The staff was terrific. We had an apmt, and while waiting an emergency dog came in that was seizing. The dog was taken back immediately. Although the waiting room was busy, the staff did a great job keeping everyone calm.\r I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a vet for a sick animal. I'm so glad I ignored the reviews. Pros: 24 hours, clean, friendly staff, caring doctors Cons: not enough parking more

Worst vet in all of Los Angeles! 11/2/2008

Oh My GOD! This place is the worst! It is so upsetting to have your animal in need, one of your best friends, a member of your family hurting and to go to a place like this. The people behind the desk were rude, impersonal and unprofessional. I felt like they were to young to even know how to effectively do their job. Although the waiting room was empty we had to wait to long for an emergency situation. Half way through the examination I realized that the doctor was trying to up-sale a procedure to us when he had not even told us if our dog was O.K. yet. I just needed to clearly know if my dog was alright. Please don't go there, I'm sure you will regret it as I do and find that now you need to go to your regular vet the next day and pay more on top of TLC's excessive prices! I have ended up there three times over the years due to emergencies with my four animals because I didn't know where else to go after hours. I have had three different Doctors and the have all been awful. I walk out feeling worst that when I walked in. \r Please don't make the same mistakes that I have, do a little reschearch before you need an emergency vet so you don't have to end up at TLC, I will find an alternative today so I never have to go back there again! Cons: dirty, unfriendly, incompetent more

AVOID!!!! 10/9/2008

Worst experience ever!\r My pet was stung by a wasp and in severe anaphylactic shock. I ran in the door, definitely an emergency and I swear theese people just stared at me. The staff was SO RUDE and I swear they dont even like animals. The receptionist rolled her eyes at me and actually told me to stop crying because I would make her cry because she had a bad day. I WILL NEVER return here. Had no choice, was the closest emergency all hours animal hospital and my pet was vomitting and having trouble breathing. This place was grossly over-priced and I only got to see my pet AFTER I begged. This place should be shut down. more

Not so great 10/2/2008

I have been here a few times for emergency's. There is one vet there that I absolutely love. Very kind and caring. Then there's one who is rude, harsh and no bedside manner. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you have to go. more

OK results, staff is not friendly 8/22/2008

I took my cat here on July 28 for an emergency - his cheek had swollen to the size of a golf-ball. I took him here because it was close and they said it is an emergency hospital - I wanted fast service. When I got there, the front desk practically rolled their eyes at me when I said it was an emergency. They said I would have to wait as other people had appointments (what is the point of offering emergency services???). I waited for a 1/2 hour before anyone would even give me the time of day. Waited another hour and was told by the rudest girl that I could either give up my cat to the staff to be examined in a back, staff-only room or wait if I wanted to actually be in a room. Um, excuse me?? What kind of pet-owner just throws their pet at someone they've never met or have sound trust for? Of course I waited to be in a room. Finally a vet came in. She was actually pretty nice - a young Asian woman. Pretty good bedside manner. The vet techs and front desk staff need to be replaced with people who CARE about animals and their owners - these people act like they're working at a Denny's on Hollywood Blvd! As far as the price for everything, no complaints - veterinary medicine IS more expensive than people medicine now - it hurts but it's necessary. Compared to my regular, lovely vet's price, this was actually a bargain. I paid just under $400 for anesthesia, dental surgery (it was an tooth abcess) and antibiotics. So far, my kitty seems just fine. If you can deal with the nastiness in the waiting room, it's not too terrible a place. Oh, and I waited 45 minutes at the front desk to pick-up my cat AFTER I was told to come get him. How hard is it to shove a doped-up cat in a pet-carrier? So you better have all day to wait around... oh, p.s. - I was still charged $100 for an emergency fee...that I waited 1 1/2 hours to get. Pros: Vet herself was good, price was fair Cons: Horrible staff, make you wait FOREVER more

Glad I read the reviews!! Found a great Vet on La Brea 8/3/2008

I usually don't check reviews, but sooo glad I did, i agree with below, I would'nt take my pet rock here, I'm surprised they are still opened. I have heard stories how bad they are, but thought I would check for myself. It was definately worth the few extra minutes. Pros: None that I can see Cons: Everything I read and heard from others more

AFTER READING ALL THE BAD TLC PET MEDICAL REVIEWS AND CHECKING them out, im going to avoid them 7/27/2008

WOW.. terrible reviews. sounds like the place really is only after the money. i read all the reviews and have decided never to bring my pets to TLC again. just my opinion Pros: NONE THAT I FIND Cons: JUST READ ALL THE BAD REVIEWS.. more
