My girls just went to heaven in November. TLC tried valiantly to keep one of them going even though her kidneys were failing. We are talking about large dogs who were about 19 a...

Expensive and crowded, but welcoming of APBTs. They provided standard vaccinations, but prescribed an antibiotic for a hot spot without asking us first. Unfortunately, they are ...

worst pet clinic. reminds me of the DVM. avoid is my opinion 7/26/2008

clean facility. unfriendly staff. very expensive and every other word revolves around cost/money.\r not my first choice for a vet> just my opinion. there are much better pet hospitals out there Pros: pretty fish tank. Cons: rude staff. expensive. always a long wait. more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST ANIMAL CLINIC 7/25/2008

I took my dog into this clinic because it was nearby, after paying a fortune I was told my dog was fine, might be ""a little over heated"" (it was nightime and cool out). Took him home and knew in my gut something was wrong, so I went to an emergency clinic on LaBrea where my dog was immediately taken in back, no mention of money was even mentioned, as they were concerned for his welfare not the o'l mighty dollar like TLC. The doctors told me he had bleeding internally and if I had waited another 30 min he would have passed away. The doctor could not understand how even a vets assistant could have missed this, even I knew something was not right. Dr. Mahaney should find another line of work, I just can't imagine if I would have taken there word and not taken my son/dog elswhere. Since this has happened I have heard other stories very similair to mine, I plan on taking every action to get these people together along with myself and have this place investigated for negligence. among other possibilities. more

SO CALLED Dr. PATRICK MOHANEY SHOULD HAVE HIS LICENSE PULLED 7/23/2008

I hope that Dr. Patrick Mohaney suffers in death the way he choose to let my dog suffer, he just left him lie in pain until 750.00 was paid upfront, then after an hour of doing nothing came back to tell it could be this, it could be that (I lost count after 12 possibilities) What was the 750.00 for to be told it might be this ,it might be that. Then the topper, he could do more tests for another 500.00! to narrow it down. It was late on a Sunday night and had no where else to take him so I said go ahead, 30 min. later he passed away as the recession machine was not working properly and could not reccessitate him. The shear horror I experienced can not be put into words, all I can do is warn others of the complete lack of experience from this doctor and others in this facility. Pros: There are none Cons: everything was a complete nightmare more

AVOID. owner is a lawyer. just cares about the money. doctors are ok, staff is rude.. AVOID 7/23/2008

rude. uncaring. staffs every other word is cost, expense, deposits. wouldnt even look at my sick cat without a 500 dollar deposit. COULDNT BELIEVE THEY REQUIRE A 75percent DEPOSIT ON ALL TREATMENTS.\r AVOID THIS EXPENSIVE HOSPITAL Cons: EXPENSIVE. NEVER THE SAME DOCTOR. RUDE STAFF. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY more

MONEY HUNGRY LAWYER OWNS THIS DUMP. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. 7/20/2008

RUDE. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. I HEAR HORROR STORIES ABOUT THE CARE AT THIS VET EVERY DAY. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Cons: EXPENSIVE. LAWYER OWNS THE VET HOSPITAL. RUDE. more

AVOID AT ALL COST/FIND ANOTHER FACILTY THAT IS OPEN 24hrs. 6/28/2008

This is the worst place anyone could bring there pet, gross negligence, out for the ol'mighty dollar, insensative, they even filled a check in of mine after I gave then a credit card and charged me twice, so add forgery. (the check only had filled in name, and amt.) as they wouldnt treat my dying pet until they were paid what they thought it MAY BE within 5 min. of walking in. Then had to assure them I would be right back in order to get a C.Card for there payment. My son/dog passed away because he lay there with nothing being done until authorized payment was given. Please research another emergency facility that has more compassion for the animal then the money, I made the mistake to go there because it was in my neighborhood and my regular vet was not open 24 hrs. I have never been anywhere that I was treated so terrible and still agonize over on a daily basis. PLEASE TRUST MY SINCERITY ON THIS WARNING and find another facility. this facility rating would be a minus 1 Cons: EVERYTHING more

Please take your pet to another facility, not TLC 5/2/2008

DO NOT take your animal to this so called hospital. I took my dog there in an emergency, 6 years old, my dog was taken to the back, lifted up by hand even though I explained he had a splintered pelvis then was given a bill/estimate and was told nothing would be done until paid in full. It was late at night did not have 900.00 in my pocket or wallet and they told me I couldnt leave to run up the block to get my wallet or checkbook.Wasted time with my dog dying in there back room, when they finally allowed me to leave(45 min or more of arguing with them) as long as I came right back as I needed to get phone #'s ,wallet etc. They would not let me see my dog for almost two hours and when they did he was basically gone, they told me they were trying to rcessitate him as I looked the hose was not even connected to the machine as it would not reach no matter how many time they tried to connect as they yelled at me to leave and then told me he passed away. They then dropped him on the floor in front of me to say my goodbyes and kept coming in saying they needed to use the room and I would have to leave. (it was 3:00 a.m in the morn, no one else was there. This is a very short version of the horror I experienced in this horrible place. Please trust me as this was not easy to write as it brings these memories back , but needed to warn others of there gross negligence and tact. Thank you for taking your time to read. I would not rate this facility at all other then I have to in order to submit this warning. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT THEIR HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES? Cons: Gross negligence, horrible experience more

Infection ran out of control 3/29/2008

Took my dog in because I thought she might have a urinary tract infection. Vet was OK, ordered urinalysis as expected ($200+ when it should have been around $100). The vet tech was also supposed to ""clip"" the fur around the dogs back end. In reality they shaved the dogs back end so now the dog has a urinary tract infection and razor burn. Three days go buy, dog is scooting all over from being shaved and situation has gotten dramatically worse. Since I haven't heard anything I call, vet that originally saw her is out of town. Left a message, call not returned. Day 5, call back again, they ask me to schedule another appointment and come in (another $100+) when the original Dr said there would be no need to come in again. Day 6 finally get antibiotics, but by now dog is a complete smelly, swollen mess with razor burn. I do not understand why it took 6 days nearly $400(including prescription) to get treatment for a urinary tract infection when it was highly suspected on first visit on day 1. Pros: Close Cons: Expensive and not responsive more

Choose A Different Pet Emergency Hospital If Possible 3/19/2008

I took a rescue dog that had been severely starved and had gone into a seizure to TLC. The staff did not seem concerned about the dog and offered no comfort or encouraging words. If anything, they seemed burdened by my presence. The doctor (I can't remember her name but she was a younger Asian woman) didn't have much of an explanation for me about the cause of the seizure or the status of the dog, and wanted to charge me almost $600 to keep him for 12 hours. I explained that this was a rescue dog I was temporarily fostering and they did not care. I would only go to TLC if I had no other option. I suggest researching the closest Pet Emergency location prior to the emergency so you are educated about where to go if/when something happens. more

Dr. Monica Revel, DVM is the best! 1/11/2008

Dr. Monica Revel, DVM has been our baby, Buddy's vet since he was a puppy. We followed her to TLC from another hospital and are so glad we found her!!! She is so caring and compassionate. Thanks, Dr. Revel! Pros: best vet, nice/clean hospital, minimal wait times, open 24 hours Cons: tricky to get to from the south side of Santa Monica (no U turns) more

At least they were open....;-9 1/8/2008

When my dog was struck by a car I had no where else to take him. At least TLC was open but unless you have a BLACK OR PLUM American Express FORGET IT! These guys are ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!\r I can look past being called 'hun"" and 'honey"" by a girl young enough to be my daughter but the parade of people (none comforting AT ALL!) was endless and useless. For all the pomp and circumstance, there was really nothing they could do to change the outcome. Perhaps if they just reduced their staffing they wouldn't have to charge $1500 for tests! I think it's so ""LA"" for people to live beyond their means but when you are in a position of HEALING/HELPING, you can't pressure people for cash even if you're over staffed and over extended. \r Working in health care myself, I know that an x ray is $5 to shoot...what's with the mark up TLC?\r Shameful....It's nothing short of shameful...\r I had been warned only to see Dr. Hiebert but unfortunately he wasn't there that night...if you go, you're taking your chances and these people have NO COMFORTING SKILLS. They basically a very expensive doggy day care. Pros: They were open and my dog didn't die Cons: The people that work there during the night or emergency hours more

Doctors Great, New Owners Bad 11/20/2007

I trust the doctors at TLC, especially Dr. Baker. My former cat had been misdiagnosed for over a year by a cat hospital in W. L.A. when I brought her in to the first available doctor at TLC. He got the diagnose right instantly and referred her to an internal medicine specialist. I now bring my cats here. The bad experiences started when the place got bought out by owners who care about the bottom line. However, the doctors are still great and they key to a good experience is to try to schedule your first appointment when they are not so busy and to be patient but insistent. The care here is still better than any of those places on Sepulveda and I will put up with a great deal to know my cats are getting the best medical care around. They are also truly available 24 hours a day. This attention to the bottom line isn't any different than what is going on with human medical care. It's awful, but I'll still take the best doctor over the friendliest service. Pros: quality of medical staff Cons: parking, cost more

dr.mahaney at tlc is fantastic!! 10/22/2007

i went to TLC b/c i live in the area... i had heard negative things from other pet owners but decided to take my chances after spending over 15K at Calif Animal Hosp. and a significant amt. at beverly hills sm animal hospital and having very poor experiences. The experiences at the aforementioned hospitals would take more than word limit will allow.\r \r Dr.Mahaney is a dedicated, professional, and very talented progressive veterinarian. While some of the front desk has been challenging to say the least, a few have been very helpful- Alex & Tim. On several occasions dr.mahaney has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help my pup (recently passed due to cancer). The last year of my dog's life wouldnt have been as great as it was had it not been for dr. mahaney. he has always followed up via email, etc w/ info. i will always take my future dogs to dr. mahaney. i have been to 5 vets in this town(not to mention dr's i used in NYC) and he has by far been the best- i'd have to say my dog received better care than i do at my general practitioner!! he has always made sure i understood precisely what was going on and always explained me the options. \r \r i will say that dr. hiebert was so- so and dr.feldman couldnt have been less emotional. not crazy about the basic technical equipment. overnight front desk person was mean and ignorant. dr. steve smith was horrendous- he's only p/t ...but totally unprofessional. believe me when i tell you to never go to him!!!\r \r i know we all love our animals... vet offices are generally pretty stressful places. if you bring stress to an already difficult situation, the situation isnt going to get any better and the only one who suffers is your animal. we encounter waits in our own dr's offices... at Cedars, etc. so why would you expect anything different at an animal's doctor. I strongly recommend this facility- but would only vouch for Dr Mahaney. more

TLC IN WEST HOLLYWOOD WAS A NIGHTMARE FOR ME 10/13/2007

MY CAT LOST 1/2 HER BODY WEIGHT. I WENT TO TLC IN WEST HOLLYWOOD, CLOSE TO MY HOME.\r IT IS MY FEELING THAT I WAS LIED TO, MISLED, DECEIVED AND RIPPED OFF FOR ALOT OF MONEY.\r NOTHING WAS DONE AS PROMISED, PROMISED CALLS WERE NOT MADE OR RETURNED, I WAS HUNG UP ON, TOLD THE DR. WAS ""AWAY"", THE OFFICE MANAGER WAS ""OUT DOING ERRANDS' AND NOONE KNEW WHEN SHE WOULD BE FINISHED AND RETURN. I WAS TOLD THE INFORMATION I WAS PROMISED WAS ""NOT AVAILABLE"", THE XRAY MACHINES WERE ""BROKEN"" AND THAT THEY HAD ""NO INFORMATION ABOUT MY CAT TO GIVE ME, TO ""CALL BACK, BUT NOT TODAY."" I FINALLY LEFT AN ANGRY MESSAGE ON THE SO CALLED ""DOCTOR'S"" VOICE MAIL. HE CALLED ME ON MY CAR PHONE IN GREAT ANGER AND TOLD ME THAT I HAD ""NO CONSIDERATION FOR THE FACT THAT HIS WIFE WAS UPSTAIRS CRYING BECAUSE HER MOTHER HAD JUST DIED."" HE REFUSED TO LET ME FINISH A SENTENCE, TALKED OVER ME AND YELLED SO LOUD I HAD TO HANG UP THE PHONE. I DEMANDED COPIES OF THE XRAYS THEY HAD SUPPOSEDLY TAKEN BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PRODUCE THEM SO I DEMANDED MY MONEY BACK. NO INFORMATION WAS EVER GIVE TO ME ABOUT THE CONDITION OF MY CAT AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SO CALLED ""DOCTOR"" TO TRY TO GET HER TO EAT MORE.!!! THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THE URINE SPECIMIN HAD ""DISAPPEARED"" AND TO BRING MY CAT BACK TO TAKE ANOTHER ONE THAT'S WHEN THEY ""RECCOMMENDED "" MORE THAN 200 DOLLARS WORTH MORE OF ""TESTS"" INCLUDING THE ELUSIVE XRAYS THAT SEEM TO HAVE DISAPPEARD ALONG WITH THE URINE SAMPLE. THIS WAS A NIGHTMARE OF INFINITE PROPORTIONS AND I HAVN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE HORRIBLE STRESS ON ME AS WELL AS MY CAT NOT TO MENTION THE LARGE AMOUNT OF WASTED TIME. IN MY OPINION, THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT IN WEST HOLLYWOOD. ALTHOUGH THEY GAVE ME A PARTIAL REFUND I AM STILL FURIOUS AND EXPECT THE REMAINDER OF THE MONEY THEY TOOK FROM ME BACK.I CAN BARELY STAND TO LOOK AT THIS PLACE WHEN I WALK OR DRIVE BY. more

Glad they're in town 9/22/2007

I take my elderly rescued mutts to Dr. Mahaney for acupuncture and they are treated so well. The care he gives them is thorough and is always more than happy to give advice. Dr. Hebert removed a spleen with a tumor from one of the dogs and they took great care especially since she's elderly. I had heard from other doctors that Dr. Hebert is a great surgeon so I was at ease. Yesterday I saw a horrible accident where a cat was struck by a truck. I rushed it to TLC and they looked at him without question. Unfortunately they couldn't help him. I've seen these people rise to the situation many times. I've also seen the staff take a bunch of yelling from people who don't understand the bill. They've handled it with professionalism. \r \r I've also found them to be very reasonable. Vet care is expensive and it'll always sting. Dr. Baker, Hebert, and Mahaney are the best. Pros: Great acupuncture and vets. Cons: Parking is sometimes full. more

ONLY IF EVERY OTHER VET IN TOWN IS CLOSED! 9/20/2007

We took our two cats in for a check up and to arrange a spay for our female cat. The vet was brisque to the point of rudeness. The front desk staff was bitchy and cold. The facilites were clean (mostly) and they saw that both cats are purebreds and usually expensive and their rates went up accordingly. They quoted me $120 - 150 for a spaying surgery on the phone. In person, the whole bill would have been closer $350. They charged more for a CBC on a cat than my internist charges for one on me! They told me that anesthesia was an additonal charge (but you could not have this surgery without it!) The whole place is a corporate owned money pump. If there is any genuine caring or compassion for the animals in their care - I sure as hell didn't see it! If this is how they appear publicly - God only knows what's going on behind the scenes. \r \r My advice: While the location and hours are convenient, the best course of action is to avoid this place like the bubonic plague! Service is non-existent. Staff are bitchy and cold. The prices go up if they think you have money. The vets seem to simply not give a damn about anything other than jacking up the bill! One tech actually asked what we had paid for our cats! (The truth is one was given to us, the other we bought as her companion and paid over two grand for him!) But why in hell would they ask such a question? Hardly relevant to the animals medical care, in my opinion. I was appalled at their rudeness on top of everything else. Oh, and the people who work there seem to be lower middle class at BEST! Not a place you'd want to go if you have any other choice, IMHO! Avoid it! Your pets will be better off for your having done so! Pros: ONLY the location and parking. NOTHING ELSE! Cons: The lousy service, Rude staff. Unhelpful. Money grubbing. Care less about the animals. more

They are not nice to dogs OR people 7/27/2007

I brought my pet to Dr.Hiebert with infected paws from allergies. Without examining the dog or wanting to hear his history ( I was telling him that my dog had major surgery at 6 mos. because he ate a bottle of glue!) .. he spoke right over me and said "" he needs a dermatologist"". I have been managing my dog's allergy for 2 years and this dr. basically said every course of treatment prior to this was ""incorrect"". The girls at the front desk were monsters, telling me ""hurry up and fill out your paperwork, your appt. is in 5 minutes"". I then sat in the lobby for 10 minutes... Since the dr. didn't want to hear about my dog's sensitive stomach , he prescribed steroids for the allergy instead of an antibiotic for the infected paws. Steroids work BUT it gave my dog bloody, loose stools, and I ended up weaning him off and treating the infection at home with Neosporin. A doctor who does not listen and does not know or care about patient history or pet care history should not be permitted to practice. I got impression that he just wanted to dive into my purse and clean it out. I don't mind paying for good service... I am warning every pet owner I know to stay away from this place. They are beyond rude and ignorant. Cons: Entire experience from front desk to vet more

Your pets are better off somewhere else! 6/19/2007

Dont waste your time (or your money) at TLC! I took my pets here because of it's location, and the fact that the lobby was very well kept. After spending large amounts of money here.. I wont ever go back! After doing some research (after the fact), I have found that they are on average 30% overpriced!\r \r The front desk employees are rude, and the Vets dont follow very far behind. I delt with a new(er) Dr who had just moved here from Washington.... he was luke warm with my pets.. and Cold to me whenever I saw him on the street afterwards (as if to be afraid that I might ask for free advice.. which was not the case!). All of this after spending thousands of dollars! It was even more disturbing to see this Dr Craked out of his mind (clearly on Meth, or something else) at a party weeks later! To think that he performs surgical procedures disturbs me deeply. more

Wonderful Vets, Open 24 Hours 5/31/2007

IA few weeks ago my dog was limping, so I took him to the vet next door to my apt building. They told me he had a torn ACL and wanted to do immediate surgery on BOTH of his knees (he had only hurt one!). Luckily, I went straight to TLC, where I was told he had absolutely no swelling at all in his knee. They recommended some medication and rest and in two days my dog was perfectly fine. I am horrified to think of the unnecessary pain and trauma (not to mention expense) we would have put him through without TLC!!!\r \r Every staff member we worked with was calm and helped to ease my obvious panic. My dog is extremely timid around strangers and I really appreciate the time the staff and vets always take to make him feel comfortable and put us both at ease. I also loved that when I called in later with questions about medication, the receptionist talked directly to my treating vet and got back to me ASAP with answers. \r \r Even the other patients at this clinic are great! Everyone is friendly and chatty, but best of all- their pets are well behaved! It makes a huge difference, as the lobby can get quite packed. \r \r And of course, Angelina Yogurt is in the same shopping center! Can't beat that!! Pros: Trustworthy Vets Cons: Parking Lot Can Be Full more

Raves for Dr. Hiebert at TLC 3/1/2007

I also had a great experience with Dr. Hiebert at TLC. I live nearby, don't have a regular vet, and took my dog there to check out an enlarged area on his inner left thigh. Dr. Hiebert said it was a growth of fatty tissue and recommended removal. I was reluctant to agree to surgery so quickly so I monitored it for two months and also sent Dr. Hiebert a couple of emails with questions/concerns. He replied to them immediately and thoroughly addressed my concerns with professionalism and compassion. The growth got larger so I agreed to the surgery. Dr. Hiebert was fantastic. The surgery was successful and the growth turned out to be much larger than we even knew. He also had someone call me as soon as the procedure was over to let me know my pup was okay, since I had concerns re the anesthesia and was the total nervous mom. When we went back for the follow-up appointment my dog didn't even put on the brakes in the parking lot (you have to know him) - he willingly walked right in. That tells me he was treated well. I highly recommend Dr. Hiebert. Pros: It all went well so I'm happy Cons: It wasn't cheap - but it was worth it more
