This place used to be owned by the Dee brothers (all vets)., it was the best place in town.. Since VCA took over, it is ALL about money. Everyone works on commission. Take note; t...

Took my golden there who was very sick and they ignored the fact that she was bleeding to death and sent her home and told me I had tine to make up my mind if I wanted to operate her when truth really was that she was dying if she did not have emergency surgery, but thank God I took her to another wonderful doctor who performed the surgery right away and she did not die.i would never recommend that hospital to anyone. more

I would like to write to praise Dr. David Shapiro. My dog Lucky had very bad bleeding cysts on the underside of his paw., He was in great pain and licked the area constantly causing it to become worse and worse. Dr. Shapiro performed laser surgery on Lucky. It was a hard 2 and one half month recovery. We followed his advice to the letter and Lucky is now completely healed and walking well again. I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Shapiro as Lucky's vet surgeon. He 100% knows what he is doing and is kind and caring as well. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/3/2013

My dog, Kiku, was diagnosed with an ulcerated cornea the day before we were suppose to travel to NYC, so severe that she would have gone blind in one more day. We postponed our trip by half a day so we could keep her overnight at HAH, and take her back to Dr. Pelicane, her ophthalmologist, in the morning, and back to HAH. That night and the five or six that followed, required Kiku to receive serum every 1/2 hour, and subsequently every hour from midnight to six am, not to mention 7-8 other drugs that needed to be administered. Between Dr. Low and Dr. Swinger (who added a few more he thought would be beneficial) and all the wonderful techs, her healing began immediately, which assured us that we could go on our trip knowing Kiku was in good hands. \r \r During our trip Dr. Low spoke to me everyday, and if I didn't call her she would call me--religiously. Dr. Swinger kept a focus on Kiku, too. I ended up leaving Mochi, our other dog, there, as well. Fast forward to the end of our trip, we picked up two happy and one much healthier bichon! In addition, I spoke to Mimi the night before pick-up to ensure that the dogs would be bathed and ready by noon, so I could pick them up and get to Dr. Pelicane's by 1:00 pm. As I anticipated, all went according to Hoyle!\r \r Should either dog ever have any health crisis in the future, there is no question where we would go!!!! We live in Boca Raton, but HAH is the only place we would consider!\r more

Words Can't Do Justice To My Disgust 6/9/2013

I am writing this review as I and my family are grieving the loss of our beloved puppy. This review must be written because the community needs to know how business is conducted at HAH.\r \r On Friday, June 8, 2013 our 8 week old Shih Tzu (Scruffy) died on the vet's table in front of my 11 year old daughter and myself. \r \r On Tuesday, June 4th, we brought Scruffy to HAH where he was diagnosed with Parvo by Dr. Erica Bello. Scruffy was immediately taken back and an iv was started. I was told by Dr. Bello that I needed to come back to the office with a $500 deposit (and the charge is $500 per day!) or they would be unable to treat him. I came back with my husband and we told Dr. Bello that my husband was not going to get paid until Friday. I asked for a payment arrangement and she refused, saying the "partners" don't allow payments. We had already paid HAH upwards of $500 up to this point. When I told her we couldn't pay what they were asking all at once, Dr. Bello had Scruffy's iv taken more

Make sure the staff assigns your pet's case to the doctor you requested. 10/14/2011

Our vet recommended that we take our male cat to Hollywood Animal Hospital because our cat had vomited blood and, since the cat's vomiting (sans blood) continued after whatever treatments our local vet could provide, it was thought that he might require an endoscopy. Our local vet had called the clinic to prepare the way, and said that our cat would be seen either by Dr. Sessa or by Dr. Herrington. My husband accompanied our cat on the plane flight, and our cat was admitted to the hospital. However, the next day when I called to speak with Dr. Herrington in person to inquire about our cat's condition, I found that the hospital staff had not notified him that either he or Dr. Sessa was to be in charge of our cat's case and had instead assigned our cat to a doctor about whom we knew nothing. We ourselves do not go to doctors whom we have not researched and who do not have proven track records, and we exercise the same level of discernment when looking for care for our pets. THE BEST! 4/25/2011

Hollywood Animal Hospital has been taking excellent care of our animals for the past 18 years. From puppy shots to euthanazia and all the emergencies in between. Tom Sessa and Dr. Dee have gotten us through it all.\r If I have to wait a while...I know that somebody's beloved pet is in serious trouble and must be seen first. Having been in that position a few times over the years, I am grateful they are always there for emergencies. \r I have absolute confidence in HAH to care for whatever comes up. I also have confidence that they will tell me the truth gently when my beloved fur baby is suffering and with incredible sensitivity, assist me in ending that suffering. \r Thank you for all you do! more

Cat wouldnt be alive if it wasnt for HAH 4/8/2011

Ok my cat would NOT be alive if it was not for Hollywood Animal Hospital and there compassion for the animal and not just the money. My friend had told me she wanted a kitten...so another friend found a kitten in a field, she called me and said hey i found a kitten for your friend, i picked him up, he seemed ok, i took him to the vet for a check up since i have other cats in the house, he had worms and a lot of diahera, very long story short this poor baby was born with a very tiny anus and an enlarged colon, he had so many problems, we were told to take him to a surgeon (he couldn't poop) she suggested we put him down, we could not do that, our vet suggested HAH, we found out angel Dr Evans, she knew we had no intention of keeping Frankie(at that point) and we had very little funds for him since my husband had just lost his job...well my friend ended up not wanting the poor kitten and we had to help him, at this point we were in love. Dr Evans helped save his life and didn't charge us more

Doc Randell fixed my cat 2/20/2011

All right guys. Im seeing alot of good reviews and alot bad reviews. I went to Hollywood Animal Hospital 2 months ago so I will tell you my experience. My 4 month old snowshoe siamese cat started acting funny. She was just sitting on my bed with this sick look. You could tell something was wrong because she wasnt eating or drinking. Usually she loves food and always finished her bowl and her sisters bowl. Now all of a sudden no appetite and a sick look. She felt warm and wasnt moving from her spot. I waited overnight thinking the bug might go away. The next day she still was sick and not really moving. She drank some water but you could tell something wasnt right. So I asked the cat breeder I adopted my cats from for a good vet. She told me about Hollywood animal hospital. So i decided to take her to the vet. I didnt want to take a chance. If something happened to her, I didnt want that on my conscious. So i went on a Saturday around 6 pm. I got in and filled the paperwork. After 20 more

Some expectations cannot be filled 1/26/2011

To Dee E.\r Thank you for your comments regarding our practice. There are a few concerns that I have regarding your comments. Yes, some of our fees have gone up over the last few years. Both the exam fee and anal gland expression were increased in the Fall of 2009, the first increase since 2006. It appears that the doctors had not been charging you for many of these services for the prior 6 years. Regarding the rest of your comments I had a hard time following the thought process. I would be pleased to discuss your concerns with the medications that were prescribed by the University of Tennessee. I am not sure how that was done appropriately since it is my understanding is that they have not seen the pet. The doctor that you called is very good about his call backs; usually within 12-48 hours. If he did not get the voice mail or the message that is a problem that I will certainly look into. It is obvious that we did not fill your expectations in spite of our efforts. Please have your ne more

Administrator Response 1/18/2011

I have been remiss in reviewing the responses in the internet regarding clients concerns with the hospital. We have been fortunate to have approximately 250 to 300 positive transactions daily. As I review on the internet client response obviously the negative ones are the ones that stick out in my mind. Five or six negative reviews are not very representative of our service to the area considering our number of transactions but five or six are still more than I would like to see. In most situations I do my best to review the clients concerns and both address them immediately or make changes in our policies and procedures as warranted. When problems are not brought to my attention changes may not be made and we have internet letters like some of the following. \r In reviewing the negative letters over the last few years I now attempt to make the following responses.\r Dr James Dee\r Hospital Administrator\r Hollywood Animal Hospital\r \r Response to Scott A. \r If I may addre more

Amazing 1/12/2011

I wanted to tell you about my visit on 12-6-10, and I wanted to tell everyone how Dr Alicia Grasso helped make a terrible situation , tolerable. I first met Dr. Grasso on Monday with another one of my dogs who needed an operation on his ear. She was warm, friendly, and very caring in her demeanor. Willie had to have his ear operated on so we left him at the office. A few days later we had to bring Willie back because he figured out a way to remove his bandage. Again, Dr. Grasso was warm, understanding and listened to our concerns. She redid the bandage and everything was fine. Today, we brought in our St. Bernard who was having problems with her legs. Upon arriving, Lucy was unable to get out of the car and with help managed, but was unable to walk into the office without assistance from my husband.\r When we were called in to see Dr. Grasso, again she had trouble going into one of the rooms. Upon speaking with the Dr, and after her examination, it was decided that Lucy was in more

I trust them 12/19/2010

My first experience was with an intern and I was not happy at all, But since I was new to the area I had made a complaint and saw Doctor Herrington... HE is amazing, caring, compasionate and fair with the prices...I laid my cat to rest and the things that they have done for me was far more than I ever expected. I would never use and intern again but I will stay going there because the main doctors are amazing..My calls are answered immediately by there doctor that knows my animals history... more

Shedding light 12/8/2010

I am a vet tech with over 7 years of experience and have been at Hollywood Animal Hospital for many years. I have worked at many veterinary hospitals and I am so happy to be working for such a FANTASTIC hospital. I am writing because I am hurt by all the negative comments made about my hospital and hope to shed some light from the "inside". \r \r As far as boarding is concerned, owners, if you want something specific done with your pets extra walks, baths, special food, just ask for it at the time of boarding. TRUST ME WE DO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH YOUR REQUESTS. We have a set time we walk our animals in the kennel its usually three times a day (as other vet hospitals I work for have done), and if your pet needs more walks you can request them to do so, but to think that the kennel staff is going to be walking dogs 7 times a day is not feasible im a dog owner and I dont even walk my dog that much. If your pet needs special attention, or more walks, or medication, a VETERINARY TECHNICIAN w more

Horrible 12/5/2010

My wife and I had to rush one of our dogs to the emergency vet. We did wait in the room for over 30 mins before the Dr came in. In the meantime, our dog was bleeding out of her rectum. THe Dr cam in and basically didn't really know what was wrong with our Emma. She left again and came back with a detailed estimate that we were required to sign and were told that we had to pay 80% of the higher estimate. The higher estimate was $1600.\r \r The next day I went to pick Emma up and waited for over 30 mins in the waiting room. Then I was called back and told I had to pay the remainder of my bill before I could see my dog. I was pissed. Then they tried to put 3 days of overnight care instead of 1. When I finally got back to see my dog, the Dr never came out and a tech was sent out to explain the meds. After spending over $1000, which i would do any day to save my Emma, I expected a Dr to come out and explain what was found. Nothing! I need to find another 24 hour hospital around th more

Horrible experiences 11/3/2010

This is the worst vet hospital I have ever been to. First, they make you wait at least an hour in a waiting room with dozens of others. Having an appointment means nothing in this place--it's a guaranteed long wait. When you go to a vet because your pet is ill you want a nice, comfortable environment to help you through it. HAH is not that place. It feels like you're in an assembly line. \r \r I brought my 1 year old cat in because he seemed to be having trouble peeing. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong, but then called me that evening to see his white blood cell count looked high and that it might be feline leukemia. I was devastated and couldn't sleep that night. I brought my cat in for more tests the next day. This time they told me his white blood cell count looked normal but that he was testing positive for some type of diabetes only found in dogs! They eventually concluded that their test samples were tainted and there was nothing wrong with my cat! Fortunately, t more

I have been taking my pets to HAH for over 5 years and have always had positive experiences. I find the staff to be friendly and caring. While I have had occasion to use the emergency services, I usually make an appointment so that I see the same MD. I have not found the charges to be any higher than any other Vetenarian hospital that I have gone to. I will continue to use their services and would recommend HAH to friends and family. more

R.I.P. My Best Friend Duke 9/7/2010

I cannot say enough about the recent care that I received from this caring, compassionate facility. Dr.'s Larry Dee & Eric Randall were outstanding. Dr. Randall could not save my great dane but he took me through the difficult journey step by step. He showed great compassion, care, and made the difficult decision a little easier by being this way. He never rushed me, he was just outstanding & that helped my family in the transition. I would highly reccomend this facility as a place that brought me great comfort in a very difficult time. It was worth the trip as I live in Boynton Beach, it was worth the $ spent and again, I don' t think I could have done this without the care from this facility. May God bless all involved in the care of my great dane Duke. May he rest in peace. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. more

Run From This Place 6/18/2010

My two 5 week old kittens came home with kennel cough and spread it to my other cats. One developed a terrible cough and needed emergency service. Not only was I billed for her but for another cat that had passed away. They literally made up a bill to the tune of $500. It was straightened out. The care is so-so and WATCH your bill. more

A GOOD PLACE GONE BAD 6/18/2010

i had been bringing my furry family members here for over ten years and had always knew that the care given was top notch. all that worked at this animal hospital were kind, caring and understood how important your furry family member was to you UNTIL recently.\r \r with much regret, i will NEVER bring my loved one here again. not because of the staff, but because of the last doctor who actually told me that because i needed to pay the other half of my bill in 3 weeks, that she should NOT let me take the meds she gave to me and said my dog needed to keep from having to board him due to dehydration from his illness along with meds to make him well. \r \r I had never felt so embarrassed that after 10 years of bringing 5 pets, down to one now, that i couldn't be trusted and was asked to sign a "promissory note" for the balance. I had never had a problem with making a payment on balances prior, and the upfront office always handled that, but i found that money was more important to this do more
