Although the ceviche appetizer certainly looked great nestled in a bed of ice in an oversized wooden bowl, the contents were far less impressive. The tuna was tasteless and the s...

Average...just average 5/8/2006

My boyfriend and I were so psyched to try Tiburon after hearing so much about it. We made a reservation and were glad we did-even on a Sunday evening they were quite busy. There were several large parties dining that evening; however, we rarely saw our server. It was nearly an hour after we sat down before we saw our appetizer. Then it was another 30 minutes before we saw dinner. We don't like to be critical of service, so we looked around to see if our server was extremely busy, but he didn't appear to be serving many of the tables. The lighting was great--it constantly changes colors and is relaxing. The food was okay--our scallop appetizer was nothing to write home about and the entrees were tasty yet nothing special. Overall--an average dinner that lasted over 2.5 hours. Pros: ambience, romantic lighting Cons: SLOW service, loud large parties more

Prompt was not a reoccurring theme 4/1/2006

I dined at Tiburon with 2 of my friends. We made reservations and were seated promptly. However, promptly was not a reoccurring theme for our dining experience. We were seated around 8:30 and didn't see our waiter until around 9:00! The person filling water had been to our table and dropped off some bread which was great. Two of us ordered Mojitos (awesome)! We hadn't ordered any appetizers or desserts and still were not able to leave the restaurant until 10:30 due to slow, poor service. We planned on getting a bottle of wine and dessert but opted not to because we knew it'd take another hour or so. I will say, the waiter was quick to drop the check off. The table next to ours had experienced the same difficulties and actually had to flag down a server. That's terrible! more

hottie staff 3/2/2006

if you sit at a table for more than 3 hours and there are only 2 of you and you are asked to move to the bar and offered a free round of drinks i dont think that is rude. Have you ever worked in a restaurant? there are other people that want to have dinner just like you! Servers make there minimum wage plus tips to live. Please show some respect to the people who give you service. The place is awesome. Very FUN! Staff is very friendly and fun. So remember dont be a dick and you will get some respect back! Pros: service, hot staff Cons: nothing more

Disappointed 2/12/2006

Had 7:30 reservations last Satuday and showed up at 7:25 to be informed that they were running behind and the wait was about an hour. Sat at the bar and checked at front desk at 8:35 to be thanked since they had forgotten about us and were sitting the 7:45s. Sat down shortly after to be informed that they were out of crapes and jerk chicken, exactly what we wanted. Got served at about 9:20 and couldn't get out of there fast enough (9:40). Lousy service and limited selection ruined everything. Pros: decent rum Cons: service, service, service more

Fail to see the attraction 12/8/2005

About all this place has going for it is the kitchen is open late - past 10:00 pm on the weeknights. Yes it has a big aquarium, but unless you've never seen one before it's hardly what could be called a main draw. Our waitress had the annoying habit of comment on everything we ordered, we did not ask her for suggestions and evidently our choices were not on her ""A"" list of things to eat or drink at Tiburon. The food was tasty, portions very generous, delivered promptly and at a hot temperature; but is a far cry from true Caribbean unless it's the Minnesotan version of Caribbean (kind of like how ketchup is Minnesotan for spicy). Hardly worth the hefty price tag. Pros: late kitchen hours, large food selection Cons: expensive, wait staff more

Repeat Vistor 6/10/2005

This restaurant has become our favorite repeat place... usually we try someplace new each time. We love the varied menu, especially the everchanging chef's menu. We also love to sit in the booths to view the grass/light wall and the huge aquarium. I love their mojitos, lobster tacos and the yummy honey butter that comes with the complimentary bread basket. We will be back... often. Pros: Ambience, Interesting food, Moderate Price more

Awesome Food, Great Salsa Band 5/24/2005

A large group of friends checked out Tiburon on a Friday night and we had a wonderful time. Most of the group enjoyed seafood for entrees. The Mahi Mahi was outstanding, seafood crepes were unbelieveable. Those who had the filet with crab and bernaise were also very happy. After the meal we stayed to see the band Salsa de Soul. Very good salsa and a great crowd. A great night out! Pros: Food, Ambiance, Music Cons: Speed of Drink Servic more

Very creative, but irritating execution 2/15/2005

Really great menu for food and drinks. The service was very quick, even a little too fast/urgent, perhaps because the restaurant wasn't that full, especially for a Saturday night. Seated immediately with no res. However, there are pitfalls designed to increase your tab. Specials seem to be the most expensive items, so ask prices before thinking they're better values. Appetizer was dramatically undercooked and the entree was overcooked. Final insult: asked for some extra black beans in the take home, was charged $5 and got no beans. Ow. The mule martini was good with ginger beer and rum - yum. Pros: No reservation needed, Creative menu, Beautiful aquarium Cons: Your tab, Service too speedy more

poor service, average food 11/29/2004

Attractive ambience, but courses were served much too quickly. Had to ask waiter to slow down, but still had the impression we were being rushed although the restaurant was far from full. Overdone fish. We ordered a molten chocolate dessert and were told the chocolate interior would flow out of its cake container (had this a number of times at other places), but it was solid. Waiter tacked on to the ticket a dessert we neither ordered nor even mentioned. Would we return? Yes. One less than satisfactory experience isn't enough to write the place off. Pros: ambience Cons: , average food more

Would go back again 11/15/2004

Our dinner was very good. Our server was good, clued us in to a recipe for Mahi Mahi we liked. We ended up sitting near the kitchen which we did not like. The decor is wonderful. The only negative is that the appetizers were a little smaller than expected. Pros: Fast seating, Good Ambiance, Decent parking more

what's so great about Tiburon?? 10/6/2004

Yeah, okay, so they got the nice big aquarium in the center. Okay, so they got an illuminating lamp that can change colors continuously. So they got nice seat and fancy fancy dressed up waiter. So, does that justifies spending over $30 on foods so small in portion, that you will get your belly full only thanks to the free glasses of water??!! Forget it!!! I MUST ADMIT THOUGH that the DESSERTS are just mouth-watering and jaw-dropping. Even if I have to eat here again...I will only come for the dessert (which perhaps are the best ever...). more

Nice Place 8/24/2004

Went there on Valentine Day 2004 with my girlfreind. Glad I made a reservation. It was packed. Great atmosphere, but not really romantic due to the crowd and noise, but that was fine with me. Nice design with lighting and huge fish tank. Would definately go back. Service was good. Food was good too, definately need to get some sort of seafood dish. Pros: Design, Food more

very, VERY, average 4/6/2004

A nice meal, nothing to call your friends about screaming you wont believe the great meal I just had but good flavor (I had the lobster tacos) and a fair value. The only thing to be cautioned about is you may not be getting the freshest seafood ever. My companions tuna was definitely NOT fresh. On the plus side though she was able to get served the tuna (which is paired with a steak on the menu) without the steak and they cut the price in half. Ambiance here is very nice (theres that word nice again) but nothing amazing. Not really romantic, yet not a place you want to take your kids. The more I write the more I realize how average this place is. Will I go again? Absolutely! Will I move mountains to do so? No. Pros: nice staff, good food, nice selection more

Mixed Impressions... 3/14/2004

My girlfriend and myself dined at Tiburon on Saturday, 3/13/04. The service was excellent and we were seated promptly. However, this was where we had our first run-in. The chairs on one side of the table were soaked in a water spill that was never taken care of. Something to note and also something easily dealt with. Our waiter was knowledgeable, and glasses never empty. Food, however, was another matter. My date's salad was bland and comprised of old, brown lettuce. Despite notifying the kitchen of a food allergy, the kitchen did not withhold the specified ingredients from well-undercooked chicken. Quite a dissapointment when everything else fell into place very well. Pros: Great Ambience, Attentive Service, Good drink selection Cons: , Kitchen attentiveness, n/a more

It was Great! 3/9/2004

This is a place to be enjoying dinner, not running in and out. Our server was fabulous -- great personality and she was willing to follow our pace --so we didn't feel rushed, and we by no means thought she was slow. Food was also fabulous -- lobster cakes for hors d'oeuvres were not bready at all. The conch soup and hearts of palm salad were magnificent -- the soup had just enough heat (not ""midwestern"" heat) to make it interesting. The heat in the yellowtail snapper was perfect -- it did not overpower the flavor of the dish, but it was definitely there. The tres leche cake was a little dry in the center, but the flavor made up for that so much that we didn't even really notice -- just dip it in the sauce it's floating in. Very reasonably priced, too. Would go back in a second. more

Tiburon to be tried! 3/7/2004

Calamari: lightly breaded and deep fried, comes with mayo-type dip on a swirl of tomatoes and cilantro. Tasty but ordinary. Lobster Tacos: three, crispy, blue-corn taco shells filled with corn, cheese and lobster (yummy spices, bits of onion or peppers, too). The lobster was in large chunks, some identifiable claw meat. Marvelous! Served with black beans which were dull. Accompaniments: a tad of guacamole and crumbled bits of queso fresco. YUMMY!!! A terrific blend of textures. Price: $19. Tres leches cake. Had it on two occasions perfectly soaked outer layer, next layer was a bit dry, center again very moist. Great flavor, soaked or not. Mention soaking it more when you order it! Splurge and check this place out. Its not the BIG food you get at Oceanaire but not a la carte either. Other appetizers weve had proved to be interesting, of high quality and very tasty. Pros: valet parking, interesting food, decent value more

Do Not Miss This Place 3/6/2004

A one of a kind restaurant in the Twin Cities. A wealth of menu choices (primarily sea food) all with a truly Caribbean flair. Superb flavorings and good size portions. The four coconut crusted shrimp appetizer were jumbo, jumbo with a wonderful guava-horseradish dipping sauce. The lobster tacos were amazing - the most chunks of lobster Ive had in a dish outside of Boston. The chefs tasting menu ($30), also excellent, included a great salad of dark, crisp greens, cashews and dates. The Sueno De Chocolate dessert was molten heaven (share this one). The ambiance of the 45 aquarium, sea grass and changing colored lights (sunset) was great for a romantic dinner or a family get together. Great tropical drinks ($9), expensive wine one/two below $30. Service could be better. Web site says valet parking, but we saw no one parking cars. $110 for two including drinks, dessert, coffee. Pros: Truly Caribbean, Unique Atmosphere, Great Food Cons: , Expensive Drinks/Wine, Parking more

Lobster tacos...MMMMM!!! 1/30/2004

Order the lobster tacos. Oh my god, they were amazing. The muscles for an appetizer with the garlic and peppers. MMMMM!!!! The pork is good too as are the drinks. The aquarium is pretty impressive from an atmosphere point of view. Every time I've been there we've been seated right away, friendly and fast service. Tyring to find parking without using the valet can be kind of a drag. Pros: Food, Atmosphere more

An Acquired Taste 1/18/2004

Perhaps Midwest-Caribbean is an acquired taste...I had the paella and it was ""interesting."" Lots of little critters (ie, crayfish, squid legs, etc.), however, it was terribly bland. And I feel I can honestly say it was unimpressive because my date had fabulous-tasting Tilapia and we had fantasticly-flavored jumbo shrimp to start. I would reccomend this more for the delicious drinks and appetizer than for the entrees. Pros: interior, service, great drinks Cons: unfamiliar food more

Good Happy Hour & Late night 12/18/2003

We ate at the restaurant their first night serving food until 2:00am. The service and food were high quality even late at night. The salad was a good value and nice presentation. The jamaican cheeseburger was one of the better sandwiches on the menu. Not your ordinary hamburger. The cuban sandwich was huge enough for two. We returned and had great salads and drinks but was dissappointed in the paella for two-very bland. My last visit was for happy hour. They had great specials on beer, margaritas, and sangria. Sandwiches were only $5 and they also and had lobster tacos on the happy hour menu. We've had the same waitress on all but one occassion and have had supberb service each time. Also love the lighting in the restaurant area- feels like your watching the sunset on a beach. Of course the aquarium is a nice bit of ambience too. more
