This is a restaurant that is good to try once...it's very pricy and over-rated. And the Most Romantic in Denver??? Please!

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/18/2012

Hi, I'm Hector Guerrero Lara and I want to say KEEP MELTING! I was floored by the amazing experience I had at the Melting Pot. The ambience was sublime and decor elegance in simple motion. The service was a touch of Swiss clockwork perfection with a sprinkle of ""mind-reading."" What a dream come true. I felt like writing a poem after this foodie encounter. I especially loved how the waitress turned our napkins into a swan like a simple magic performed at a Las Vegas show. And, of course, all this happened before our palettes went into orgasmic overdrive with the ""pot de jeur"" and fantastic delicacies of dripping good cheeses and juicy meats. The Melting Pot exceeded all expectations and I can't wait to travel back to Denver to experience this selfish pleasure again and again. Thanks, Hector Guerrero Lara more

Stingy portions, high prices, what service? 6/23/2011

Too bad this restaurant gets recommendations, because it is just an awful place. Stairs up, stairs down, and plenty of them. I was so embarrassed that I suggested this dark grotto to my friend. It was very expensive, and the sirloin steak was tough, stringy, and my MD friend wouldn't touch the chicken. Thanks to the ""Red Door"" on the ground floor, you could escape through the waiters area to the parking lot. I do NOT recommend this place at all. more

Amazing dining experience 12/29/2010

The melting pot is an excellent place for a date or family event. In my experience the food, atmosphere, and service has been amazing. Plan on 2-3 hours for a full meal of cheese fondue, salad, main course fondue, and chocolate fondue. Eating at the melting pot is more than just dinner--it is entertainment and fun. I only have a couple suggestions. First, don't go if you are on a diet. Second, in the winter, the patio is not comfortable temperature-wise as they have some trouble regulating the heat; try to eat inside. more

I was SHOCKED at how bad this place was! 8/21/2010

My first trip here started out great, but as the night went on it was filled with disappointment. First off, I would have liked if the hostess here told us we should make a reservation when I called. We drove 30 minutes just to wait there. The server's personality was great, but he was never around. The food was BAD. We were overcharged. The manager was rude. We ended up leaving before dessert even, because, by then, our enthusiasm for this place was GONE. We just wanted to leave. I paid the bill and asked for the restaurant manager. I was given his card. I emailed him the next day, as well as called. It wasn't until 6:00pm that he got back with me. After about 30 minutes on the phone with him, the best he offered was a certificate for the dessert (that we paid for anyway!). I will NEVER go back, and I will tell everyone I know to not waste their time or money. more

Great staff, great food, excellent experience. 8/18/2010

We had a cheese pot, a beef pot, a dessert pot, and a bottle of very good wine. We took 3 hours to indulge in every piece of it. The food was delicious, there was a lot to get through, but we just couldn't leave it alone. The staff were all excellent; well mannered, attentive, and generally pleased to assist you. A great place for anniversaries! more

Great job at 5280! 3/10/2010

This was one of three restaurants my wife and I went to during 5280. We've been to the Melting Pot before, but we wanted to go again (who wouldn't) to check out their 5280 menu. \r \r I expected a watered down version of a real menu (see Elways review) but I was pleasantly suprised to see all four courses! Cheese was the right size, salads, entree and chocolate! Nothing was skimped!\r \r Let me slow down for a moment and explain why the Melting Pot is so successful. We all know the building is immaculate, but the service is what stands out. I asked our server what kind of training goes into becoming a Melting Pot server and he said it's an ongoing training process that takes several weeks. I asked him what he thought of it and he had nothing but positive things to say about it and the management. \r \r From the moment we sat down we were treated like old friends. They knew my first name (and called me by it!) and gave us a wonderful explanation of the 5280 menu. It was as if they didn't mind us cheaper folks coming in for a special-and that's what makes the Melting Pot special! \r \r The swiss was very good. Caesers with the little sugar nuts are always are favorite. Chocolate smores...yeah, gimme some of that!\r \r Martinis are a bit pricey, but I'll take it for the ambiance and service. \r \r Great job, Melting Pot. Please keep it up! Pros: Service, Service, Service! Cons: None! more

Pay your bill and get out! 3/4/2010

The Melting Pot is not a quick meal, and we expect to linger over the many courses when we visit ... which is why we were surprised when only minutes after paying out bill, we were approached by the general manager and in no uncertain terms asked to leave our table. He did mumble something about champagne in the bar, but we were so taken aback and embarrassed that we did not want to stay another minute. We felt that the situation was handled badly as our waitperson never said that she needed the table (it was 9:00 on a weeknight) and instead immediately elevated the situation to the manager, who quite frankly could use some sensitivity training in dealing with patrons. This was after we spent over two hundred dollars for a party of four and tipped our waitress 20 percent. We felt unwelcome at this establishment and our evening was ruined. Pros: Great ambiance and fun for special occasions Cons: Management more

Birthday lunch on the patio 7/24/2009

I recently celebrated my b-day at the Melting Pt. What a wonderful experience. My husband and I have opposite schedules he is a chef and I’m an elementary school teacher off for summer break. My husband had to work a closing shift on my birthday so he wanted to take me somewhere special for lunch. When he told me we were going to the Melting Pt I though he was crazy because I had no idea they even had lunch there. When we arrived I noticed their new patio. Although I was hesitant to sit outside because it was about noon in the middle of July but the hostess assured me that the umbrellas block out most of the sun/heat. She was right it was absolutely beautiful! The umbrellas provided so much shade and the ambiance of the patio was so serene. When we sat at our table I noticed the dozen roses my hubby ordered for me! They were so beautifully arranged and it was such a pleasant surprise. The lunch menu was very well priced. I was surprised about the savings. Because we were on a time crunch we did the cheese salad and chocolate special (all of the best things). I have been to the Melting Pt before and it has always taken a bit of time, but our server (Marcus) was very accommodating to our schedule. He had us fed with time to spare. I even had time to enjoy a grand mariner with my chocolate. It was absolutely a delightful b-day lunch and we were done in time for my hubby to get off to work. I got to take the dozen roses with me! So my husband was officially off the hook for having to work on my birthday. Thanks! Samantha and Tom Pros: MMM cheese more

First time will not be the last time 6/10/2009

I love reading reviews on these web sites, but I never thought I would actually write one myself!\r \r I just took my fiancé to the MeltingPot for the first time and we were both blown away. We had both heard from our friends that the atmosphere and customer service was superb, they were right! Our server was one of the most knowledgeable people we have ever met. He knew the menu like he had written it himself. I am an employee at a restaurant myself and when I told our server that, he told us about their hospitality special. For people in the service industry they can have all four courses for half price! I was shocked and amazed that even in this economy a restaurant can have such a great deal! We decided to go that route and it was simply amazing! Our friends told us that the price was better than they anticipated and they were correct again.\r \r I don't know of another fine dining restaurant where you can get so much food for so little. Our meal took roughly 2 hours and we only spent $75.00 for our food and a bottle of wine!!!!\r \r When we arrived there we walked through their brand new patio that looks amazing. We were going to dine on the patio but they had just closed it down for the evening. Our reservation was at 10:30 PM so it wasn't a problem. Looking at the patio we are definitely going to come back and eat on the patio. Our server told us when we asked about the patio that it is open for lunch!!!! To top that off they have a new lunch menu to go along with the beautiful new addition.\r \r To try to summarize everything up, this was our first visit to the MeltingpPot but it will not be our last. We were blown away by the service and atmosphere and will tell all of our friends and family to go to the MeltingPot and have as much fun as we did!\r Pros: Knowledgable Staff and great atmosphers Cons: Nothing more

Yum Yum! And Great Service! 3/19/2009

I am a HUGE fondue fan, but can never get my husband to take me out for fondue. We had tried ""La Fondue"" in downtown Denver one year for Valentine's Day and it was a horrible disaster. So, it took some talking into on my part to get him to take me to The Melting Po* for our wedding anniversary.\r The ONLY drawback was that we forgot to make reservations, when we called that afternoon to see if we could get in that evening, they said no. However, I had my heart set on going there and talked my husband into just showing up and seeing if we could get in. We showed up and were seated right away. ??? We were happy about that but how come they told us there was no availability?\r Anyway...the experience was AWESOME! Our waiter was very nice, friendly and very knowledgeable. He explained everything to us (what la fondue is desperately missing.) The salad was so YUMMY!!! The cheese was amazing. The meat with all the sauces is so tasty. Then, you get to the chocolate party and oh wow! Simply scrumptious!!\r Overall, it was a wonderful experience. If you don't mind cooking your own food (which I think is fun, not everyone does,) and having a long leisurely meal....this is the place for you!\r Oh, not to mention the old building that the restaurant is in is VERY cool!\r Keep up the good work Melting Po*! If you continue with hiring the awesome servers and bringing out the yummy food...we'll be back again and again! Pros: Great food AND great service! Cons: Reservations more

Yummy yummy 12/16/2008

I love this resturaunt (I can't type the name because apparently the word p- o- t is inappropriate)! The service is always awesome, and the cheese fondue is the best ever, it's totally worth the large bill at the end. more

Billing Dispute 11/17/2008

I ate at this restaurant at the end of September 08. After receiving my credit card statement, I had a billing dispute. I faxed a letter to the restaurant on October 23, 2008 requesing a copy of my receipt. Three weeks later, I still had not received a copy of the receipt, so I went to the restaurant in person to demand a receipt. I was faxed a receipt the next day. However, after reviewing the receipt, I still have a billing dispute with this restaurant. The following day, I left a message for the manager/operating partner, who had faxed me the receipt, and I told him that I was still disputing the bill and asked for a call back. It has now been 3 days, and the magager/operating partner has not returned my phone call. I feel I will have no choice but to dispute this bill in writing with the credit card company. I am tired of being ignored with what I feel is a legitimate billing dispute. Given the prices they charge for food, I would expect much better service and more professionalism from them. They have permanently lost my business. more
