This place is a joke - INEDIBLE 6/27/2007

I read some of the review on here and anyone who said this is exceptional food is very deluded... Let me break it down meal by meal, since 37 of us dined there this past weekend and were apalled. This is our experience as a dining club this past Saturday June 23rd, 2007.\r \r Tuna appetizer.... its fresh tuna, with SALT all over it with some sort of oil and parsley. I don't know what kind of chef designed this but it was horribly salty and then the bite of the parslet was just a shock. This should be called salt rock tuna sashimi.\r \r Baby Chicken - again overly salted and lack of any depth in this dish, it was like eating at a bbq place\r \r Kobe ""style"" Beef - This dinner was again a shock, i eat my steak rare with a seared crust. The crust should be no more than 1/8 in thick. The cooked part of the steak almost made it medium. The steak itself lacked any kind of flavor or freshness to it.\r \r Filet - Also inedible and over salted\r \r The only thing i can really say is the fish is fresh, the service was ok for our table(s) size. They were slow but i cannot really judge based on our table size. What i can say was bringing out the food 20-30 minutes apart in this case was tacky and lacked any sort of class on their serving knowledge.\r \r The bill also came incorrect with 2 extra appetizers and the alcohol not broken down on it, just a plain ""liquor charge""\r \r Pros: nice look, good atmosphere Cons: food is a mean joke, service, price more

Fell short of expectations... 3/12/2007

On a Sat. night arrived first to discover the hotel would not allow us to valet park at The Regent even though we had a table reservation. Said they were full, totally unexcuseable. We were seated at 11pm for our 9pm reservation for 4 people. I was a mob scene trying to get a table, also unexcuseable. The music playing was uncomfortably loud forcing our party to shout to one another over dinner. The surrounding diners were generally intoxicated and shouting to one another. NOW for the good news, the food was very good and tasty. The service was average, well better than average for Miami standards. Very expensive for a night that needed exceptional tolerance for such an establishment...sorry I really could not recommend this restaurant based on the screw-ups we experienced. more

Culinary excellence in casual atmosphere 2/17/2007

Gracious, attentive, and highly knowledgeable waitstaff gave outstanding service to our weeknight group of 6 (three of whom are chefs). Each course was appropriately paired with wonderful wines by our patient, passionate and entertaining sommelier. Though the intricate subtleties of flavor may be lost on inexperienced palates, we found perfect balance in most recipes, and every dish was well executed by the kitchen staff. We must have tried nearly everything on the menu, from appetizers to desserts, sharing so everyone could taste everything. The superior quality of ingredients is evident in every dish - from the cherries used as garnish in a cocktail, to the cheeses, the vegetables, the seafood, the porterhouse steak.... everything was fresh and properly prepared. \r The decor is comfortable and stylish, neither stuffy nor trendy. I highly recommend Table 8 for a superb dining experience. Pros: sophisticated, high quality cuisine in a comfortable setting Cons: too crowded on weekends more

Delivers everything a great restaurant should! 2/10/2007

A fantastic meal that lived up to everything I've been hearing! Service was on the mark and Chef Govind's dishes were all great. had a bone in Rib Eye to rival Peter Lugers, which incidentaly, we were told Rob Report had earned Robb Report's coveted ""Best of the Best"" for steaks. Didnt have the legendary Porterhouse, but we'll save that for next time. Great original drinks coming over the bar, and the apps at the bar would make for a great night of dining all by themselves. We waited a bit for a table, but the bar had a hot scene and time flew. Pros: STEAKS!!! cocktail Menu more

If you like edible food, don't eat here! 2/10/2007

This is by far the worst meal out, I have ever eaten. The staff is nice, but they have the awful job of having to sell bland food as ""amazing"" treats. The appetizers are better tasting than the entrees. Skip the pork chop if you don't like tasteless slabs of meat on your plate. The food is so awful you will feel embarrassed for suggesting it to your friends! Pros: staff Cons: food more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! 2/10/2007

MUSIC IS OKAY. NOT OUTSTANDING OR GREAT. SERVICE HORRIBLE. I WAS ON A DATE AND THEY CHANGED MY TABLE TWICE. THE FOOD WAS COLD ONCE SERVED. JUST OVER ALL I HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AT TABLE 8. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE...NOT EVEN AN ENEMY. Pros: NONE - YOUR BETTER OFF GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE Cons: SERVICE HORRIBLE, HOSTESS HORRIBLE, TABLES TO CLOSE TOGETHER more

Simple, Elegant, and Dazzling Food! 2/9/2007

This was one of the better dining experiences I've had at the Beach. Upon our enterance we greeted by a very pleasant young woman and told there would be a wait for our table (as Prime 112 regulars, one expects this at the hot restaurants in town). We moved to the bar, where to my husbands delight the Heat game was playing on television. To his dismay, the wait was only slightly more than 15 minuites past our reservation time. It struck me that the wait staff was very young, and I was prepared for this to be reflective in the service. Though our waitress couldnt have been out of her mid twneties, she clearly knew the menu and even a good deal about wine. She guided us through a concise menu, but with options from beef, lamb, pork, and fish. We had a New Zeland Lamb dish with Mediteranean flavors that were wonderful. We also had a Grouper that was so succulent and perfectly prepared. \r \r The sides were fantastic, I loved the Swiss chard and the baby carrots. Serveice was prompt throughout, water never left unfilled, and the Sommeiler always had his eye out for an empty glass. \r \r We didnt eat desert at Table 8, but certainly will be back soon and will try it then. All around, I have to say they have have really put it together nicely. To no surprise, my husband was told that the General Manager, a very pleasant British gentleman, had come over from Spago Beverly Hills, which is certainly among the finest restaurants I have ever visited in terms of both service and food. Pros: MArvelous food, beautiful atmosphere, rare service more

overpriced food wasn't great 2/8/2007

Service-great, booths-comfortable, but food-mediocre. kobe steak was decent, but not worth the money. Tried my friend's baby chicken, but again I was disappointed. For the quality and flavor, you should be paying 30% less. Ordered the cobbler for dessert, and asked for it to be hot, but it was lukewarm, it came out with a top made of puff pastry. It would have been fine with me, except that the puff pastry was extra chewy instead of light and crisp. It tasted as if they put a stale round cut out of puff pastry on top of the cobbler and microwaved it. tiramisu was also the same. Better new restaurants out there, like evolution or prime 112. but if it's 2 a.m. and your craving steak after a night out, and you are staying at the hotel, I guess this place will do. If your hungry and drunk, I could see these food tasting good. \r \r Pros: booth Cons: food and price more

Govind needs to really focus 2/8/2007

The owners of this place look like newbies at running a restaurant. There was a shortage of wait staff and bar staff. The place wasn't full but they really had no idea of what they were doing. It seems like all the waiters and bartenders all called in sick. 20 minutes to take our order. 15 more minutes to get our drink order, which they should have taken with our order before running away. The food came out and was decent, but I've had much better meals ant other places like emerils and prime 112. We spoke to one of the owners who seemed like a nice person but not an experienced restaurant manager. We were not offered a discount for our troubles. I love the outdoor space and that's the draw for eating there, but there are plenty of other places that have outdoor seating and have a clue. \r \r more

Average food and pretentious staff!!! 2/8/2007

Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by the smell of delicious food and a pleasant ambience. Unfortunately things went down hill from there. The hosts were pretentious to put it nicely and I had the beek flatiron steak (it wasn't kobe) which was average (definitely not worth the price). With so many other restaurants to choose from in miami, I would not put table 8 on a must visit list. A new restaurant needs to carry itself beyond the initial buzz and attract repeat customers - a goal I doubt table 8 will accomplish. \r \r Cons: i can eat better accrossing the street, at starbucks. more

Terrible Management! Do NOT Go with a Large Group 2/8/2007

I was recently part of a 12-person party for the weekend and they had us waiting OVER AN HOUR for our food. We didn't leave because we didn't want to make a scene. Perhaps he was ""annoyed"" that we ""inconvenienced"" him when the reservation was changed well in advance. There was another large party but we were treated as 2nd-class citizens. We had to ask for bread after 45 minutes and even though our waiter was GREAT, he had to ask the stiff manager to comp us a round of drinks for waiting so long. The un-customer-friendly manager comped us NOTHING for waiting for room temperature food, so we stopped ordering drinks. He only kept giving us the evil eye as to ""intimidate"" us. With this type of customer service, I'm surprised the place is still in business. It's ONLY advantage is the location of which there's nothing else around Pros: location Cons: management!!!! more

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!! 2/8/2007

This place has a great atmosphere and a great crowd, but the food was not that great! I had the tuna with avocado....there was more avocado than anything else and no taste! I think this is a good place for drinks and a few good appetizers (not the one i had), but I would recommend other great restaurants in the area for dinner! Food is not worth the money!.\r \r \r \r Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: very very poor food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Best Cocktails I've Ever Had! 2/8/2007

I've been to the bar at Table 8 and that place knows how to make a cocktail! thay have a menu of ""house drinks"" that are truly unique. Had a Basil 8 at t little cocktail party they had featuring their house drinks, had crushed grapes and basil with vodka, was killer. ONly tried a few food things, A grilled Cheese with short-ribs that was awesome. We rocked their drinks all night, great time in the lounge, and will definately get in for the full dinner soon. Pros: Best Drinks in Town more

SENSATIONAL FOOD IN A BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT!!! 2/8/2007

I have to lean toward the professional restaurant critics based on what I've read here (though many of these reviews are hard to understand because ther're English as Second...or third Language) I've been reading about Table 8 for years and I have had little samplings at Food and Wine Festival and a few other local events. I just had my second dinner at Table 8 and can now say it is fabulous. The flavors are wonderful, simple and pure, nothing over done- the perfect amount of ingredients- never too many. My Grouper was of the perfect moisture and texture and the porciutto was a different, but welcomed touch. Previously I had tried the Pompano, a local fish that was so simply done, yet beautifully balanced with the rest of the flavors on the plate. He seems to use alot of iron greens...swiss chard, things from that family...which the bitterness of balances the sweetness of his proteins wonderfully. \r \r Our side dishes were all spectacular, and though a few were what you would expect at a steak house, most were refreshingly unique!\r \r We tend to dine early, so I can't speak to the ssues of service once packed or attitude at the hostess stand. \r \r On both occasions my server was very friendly, cool and controled and totally devoid of any attitude. The manager (who acted as bus-boy when needed, Sommelier when needed, and server) was wonderfully charming and his Britich accent (whether real or not) reinforced his aire of sophistication.\r \r Do a bit of research on Table 8 if you havent seen anything in the past and I'm sure you will find, as I have, that is will meet your highest expectations! Pros: Perfection in Flavors and ingredients more

i hope it gets better!!!!!!!!!! 2/8/2007

I disagree with a lot of people here, the food is not that bad but at the same time i was expecting a lot more from cheff Goving Amstrong. The taste of the food isn't anything sapecial at the point that when you try it you don't feel like wowww! this isn' t the best i have ever tried. Before i was there i thought that foos was going to be like extremely good and i think i was wrong. Is not bad, don t get my wrong, but the presentation of the dishes (plating) and the taste is for sure not the best you can get on the beach. The service ok but my server was acting like a robot, that s real. i asked her about dishes descriptions and she knew a lot about them but i did t need that much description, i needed a guide, cause for example i don t like pork( i hate it )\r and she went over the description and she was traying to sell it to me. i was expecting more honesty couse being that pushy is not a good sign. The menu also is very small so i didn t have that many options so i tried the tuna ( she said that was their version of tuna tartar)and i think it was from 1 to 10 a ...6 and then the grouper which for me was below average....too dry .....and fish with proscciutto???mmm no!!!!. Desserts everybody agree they are bad with a huge lack of taste. The good thin was the wine that unfortunately wasn t made by the cheff but was very good and at a very reasonable price. cheers for that!!!. In summary, this place if the improve the menu could be a lot better.................. Pros: wine!!!!!!!! Cons: food, i need from from govind more

Totally solid, great new place 2/7/2007

After a bit of a wait we were seated at a Table on Ocean Drive. It was a bit windy and next time I would definately request something by the bar in advance. Service was prompt and clearly above average. I'd read a great deal about Table 8, but hadnt made it to the LA location yet. Had tried a few items at last years Food and Wine festival, and remembered it being terriffic. I went with a Sweet Bread dish that was excellent, had a nice pasta under it. Everyone was pleased with their apps as well. Tried a great Calamari dish with clams as well. Between us we had a Kobe style beef and a local Pompano. Both were great. We moved through dinner quickly and wanted to get back to the lounge for desert, as it was a bit chilly. The lounge was beautiful done, very comfortable with cusions you could get lost in on the futon-like beds. Definately among my better experiences in town and I look forward to coming in on a nicer night (weather) and sitting in the area where the bar is, or inside. Pros: Beautiful Decor with great food Cons: Can get chilly out front on Ocean Drive more

it must be the owner....... 2/6/2007

Table 8 is an average restaurant and reading all the reviews i see that the owners and managers of the restaurant are trying to fix here what it should be solved at the restaurant. PLEASE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!READ THE REVIEW AT NEW TIMES!!!!!! IS THAT MADE FROM A EMPLOYEE FROM ANOTHER RESTAURANT? NO, IS MADE BY PEOPLE WHO LOVE FOOD. i think the food there is average but the service is very poor.i been there 3 times and 2 were on the house. Those were free dinner that they gave me to promote the place....i will not promote the place if the food (main ingredient of a restaurant) is just average. oak salad, soup, sweet breads, foie are not good as well as pompano, snaper, grouper and chicken, and fake kobe. i have tried all of them and the are not very good. I AM A FOOD AND SERVICE LOVER AND I THINK THAT THIS PLACE NEEDS A LOT MORE WORK, SPECIALLY ON THE MENU. Desserts are bad, and even the server told me that so please let leave this place only for food critics and not for personal fights. Why don t you give free meal to ppl and give them a piece of paper and a pen so they can tell you the truth!!!!!!!!! i also know an employee of table 8 and she/he told me the amount of complints that you have every day cause the food and service.....THIS IS OUR FORUM.......A PLACE TO ENJOY FOOD WITH FOODIES....THE REST....DO IT AT THE RESTAURANT. THANKS. Pros: FOOD IN THE FUTURE Cons: THEY SHOULD CARE MORE ABOUT THEIR OWN BACKYARD more

A Steak House or a Foofoo LA place??? Who cares, it was great! 2/6/2007

Visiting from Kansas, I wanted to see how Miami does steak, as I'd heard nothing but praise for Prime 112 (which I later on my trip was able to verify was merited). My girlfriend MADE me get a table at Table 8, she said the Chef was People Magazine's ""50 most beautiful"" or some bs like that, and that all the celebs went there, I relented (a trade-off for not getting her a Super Bowl ticket and leaving her at the hotel).\r \r There were a bunch of steaks on the menu and plenty of girlie fish options for her. I was torn between a huge bone-in ribeye and a pork-chop, when the waiter told me there was a porterhouse for 2 on the menu. I got that for myself and though stuffed, put the whole thing away. It wasnt a steak like i'm used to, as it was encased in salt and herbs- but was increadible none the less.\r \r The server was very nice, but could have been a bit more attentive. We waited a while between course, but hey, it was the Super Bowl, and I was grateful to have had a reservation (girlfriend planned ahead).\r \r stayed in the bar area outside after dinner, as we didnt care about night-clubbing, and they even had ESPN playing - a bonus. \r \r I got to keep my eye on pre-game coverage, while my lady sipped champagne! I was expecting something over the top when I read the clip from People magazine that was posted by the door, but it turned out to be a great cross between steak-house and gourmet restaurant- with a little bit of sports bar thrown in for good measure. Pros: TV's playing sports Cons: slow to get food more

A Perfect SOBE Evening! Shocking how low the competition will stoop...... 2/6/2007

I was shocked to over hear at a restaurant the other night an off-duty employee tell a friend the following MY FRIEND: ""have you been to Table 8 yet"" EMPLOYEE: ""No, but I hear it's amazing, food service, the whole nine yards"" MY FRIEND: ""Can a new place cut into your business noticeably?"" EMPLOYEE: ""Sure. and take a look at the awful reviews I've posted on web-sites, to do what I can for our cause""\r \r WOW! How low. So I had the friend I was visiting take me the next night to see for myself, and he was right, that guy's restaurant should be worried about Table 8 taking business. We couldn?t get a table cause it was Super Bowl weekend, buy we sat at the inside bar and had a meal to die for! My fois gras (there's a ban in my hometown. Chicago) was heavenly and my grouper was perfectly cooked and wrapped in ham, or Prosciutto I believe. \r \r My friend, who had originally wanted to go to the best steak house in SOBE, was thrilled to see that there was a Kobe style steak on the menu and a Cowboy Cut Rib-Eye, and plenty of other things for meat eaters. We were told that the sides were a new addition and we went with our waiter?s suggestion of creamed Swiss chard. I'd never heard of it, but it was amazing! We also tried a short-rib hash at the waiters pushing, and though I?m not a meat eater, my friend was in heaven.\r \r The bartended really knew the food, surprisingly, as I?ve heard service is terrible in Miami (when was the last time a waiter offered you a black napkin because you were wearing a black skirt!?) \r \r A couple next to us did send something back because it was too rare, but the server was apologetic and it came back moments later to rave reviews from them. \r \r We moved to the very beautiful lounge for desert and champagne and it was a perfect way to cap a great experience. We shared a big lounge table with a great group in from NY, and they had had a wonderful dinner as well. I will be back and hopefully soon! Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, paople Cons: hard to get a table more

yes, just another place 2/5/2007

nothing special about this place.......food is just fine and the service is ok! the decor is very poor and the place, i mean the structure is just normal. For sure not the best place in miami but not the worst either. just one more. Pros: ocean drive Cons: just normal food more
