HORRIBLE 5/24/2008

Its terrible, from the not so fresh ""flown in daily"" fish to the snooty atmosphere. You should have something to be snooty about before acting like it! No reservations, the sushi chefs are rude and cold (as the rest of the staff). Skip it and head to the very welcoming sushi sasa! Pros: Nice location and super trendy Cons: Expensive, bad service, rude staff, not so good food more

Sushi was good...sushi chefs lacked personalities! 5/11/2008

Just moved from LA and finding a good sushi restaurant was a challenge. Sushi Den tops our list. The food and experience was overall good. However, I wish the Sushi chefs would ""liven up."" We enjoy sitting at the sushi bar because the sushi chefs give more attention, and get a lot more creative with the dishes / sushi you order. But that wasn't the case...Ok, but our main server was indeed attentive and helpful. We wished they had music throughout the restaurant too. This would really be an added bonus to the whole ambiance. I recommend to valet park because it is free and convenient. The wait wasn't too bad on a Saturday night. We waited approx. 30 minutes, and this place dies out earlier than LA....about 10:30 pm, when happy hours starts. The location is in a neighborly kind of residence, which gives you no option to go anywhere else to have fun. Pros: Free Valet, Sushi, Server Cons: Boring Sushi Chefs, Lack of creativity on dishes / sushi presentations, Ambience more

Sushi was great. So as.. 4/11/2008

I had lunch. Sushi was great as always. Since my 2 yrs son was with me, I had to have some cooked foods, too. Wasn't bad at all. more

Fun Place 4/11/2008

This was my first time at a Sushi joint. The food was pretty good, but I just had a nice time. The place was busy and the tables are a little to close together. Service was average, food maybe a little above average. Parking was horrible! Take a cab. more

Great food, Horrible Service 1/25/2008

To sum it up...An urban critter crawled on our table. Management squashed it, walked away and gave us our check(no discount) as if nothing happened. Before that, our server took 30 mins to greet us and proceeded to carelessly serve us throughout the night.\r \r There are better sushi restaurants around denver...Sushi den is well OVERRATED! Two stars for yummy fish. Pros: Fish Cons: Service and cleanliness more

OVERRATED!!! 12/17/2007

I am an event coordinator for a local social club in Denver. I set up a monthly sushi dinner at a different sushi restaurant and was very excited to try the Sushi Den, since it had the reputation for ""the best sushi in Denver"". Yesterday I called to confirm my reservation for 25 people and they didn't have it. They then proceeded to tell me that they would have to charge me a room fee and a percentage of our total bill. I refused and said that NOTHING was said to me about a room fee, otherwise I would have never have booked a room there. He said he would wave the fee but wouldn't promise our table to be ready at 4:45. That was fine, we could have a drink at the bar while we waited for the table. During our drinks the manager said our table was ready and that we would all have to be on one bill. Typically when our group goes the management is kind enough to let us split up into groups of 4 or 5, with 25 people this is definitely difficult with a sushi order! So I go to the hostess to have her take us to the room and she said she wouldn't seat us until 15 people were there. It's 5 at night, rush hour I know people will be late but she would rather have 13 people stand by the bar instead of enjoying our room and looking over the menu. I finally got her to take us to the room. Nice decor, nice servers. The sushi was very overpriced and nothing outstanding compared to some other sushi restaurants we have visited. Overall I would save your money and go to Japon on a Monday where it's happy hour all day, or Opal that has an exceptional happy hour every day until 7:30. Pros: Nice decor Cons: overpriced, lost reservation, OVERRATED!!! more

Best sushi, best interior 11/16/2007

I went to Sushi Den last Thursday, and it was the first time I'd tried anything from their ""cooked"" menu.\r Unbelievable. I go there often for the most divers, freshest collection of sushi and sashimi anywhere--but now I'll go back for the black cod or the grilled calamari (which was somehow tender!). Immaculate, clean, fresh . . . Pros: Cool interior, fabulous sushi Cons: service is flighty more

Pretty good place. 10/27/2007

I understand that Friday night is ""take the woman of the week that I really am trying to impress night"" but Sushi Den was CRAZY last Friday! Although I can't complain it was funny to see 50+ men with comb-overs attempting to make conversation with short skirted 25-30 somethings with store bought cleavage, this combo always is good for excellent people watching.\r \r Cons: The wait was 1 hour and 15 minutes (but it was Friday), one of my friends ordered something and didn't get it (after two bottles of Sake we didn't really notice). \r \r We ordered some sashimi for dessert and they had ran out of the particular fish that we had requested, so we told our waiter to ""surprise us"" he ended up surprising us with the most expensive sashimi on the menu (by most expensive I mean DOUBLE the average sashimi price) I thought that this was in poor taste. Also the atmosphere was very loud and cluttered\r \r Pros: Since the wait was so long we got to go 2 doors down to BBs and had a couple of drinks and listened to some music.\r \r The food was excellent! The rolls were made with precision; piled with ingredients with excellent rice. The Sashimi was very fresh and since Colorado is a land locked state I give major points for freshness.\r \r On the whole it was a great way for me and my friends to begin our evening. I would recomend going on a Tuesday, if you are really trying to impress someone! more

Great sushi and lots of fun. 8/11/2007

These comments about ""beautiful people"" and ""the place to be seen"" are hilarious. \r \r Sushi Den is just a fun place to go talk, have fun and eat some good sushi. If you do not like Sushi Den then you are just too old or just too conservative to have fun anywhere. The prices are great considering the atmosphere and the experience. Sushi Den is a great representation of Denver. \r \r Everything is always great. The food and staff are perfect just the way they are. It is loud and busy because it is a blast. If you think it takes to long for the food to arrive than you're there with the wrong people. Pros: Food, Neighborhood, Staff Cons: Sometimes negative clientele shows up. more

Cool restaurant, great sushi, rude staff...... 8/3/2007

Sushi Den is the restaurant my brother and sister in law bring me every time I'm in Denver (I live in Seattle where sushi RULES!!!). The first few times I was impressed by the modern beautiful decor because I'm used to a more traditional sushi house. The sushi was innovative and fresh...downright delicious! But the last few times we've been, I have been very disappointed. The wait time is excruciating (bring walking shoes so you can wander around the cute neighborhood to waste time), the staff that ""greets"" you is very unfriendly, and the service is extremely slow. Seems like the wait staff has a big turnover, because we always have a new waiter. I'd rather go to a good traditional sushi house where I'm treated with Japanese friendliness, and bypass the scenesters and snobs that go to Sushi Den. Pros: Delicious creative sushi, fun date place Cons: wait time is insane, service is slow more

Rude Hostess, Overpriced, Overhyped sushi 4/26/2007

I have avoided going back to Sushi Den since my first experience there when I lived nearby. The staff was rude, sushi average, and environment uncomfortable and loud. There is always a wait, which is especially annoying at 8:00pm on a Tuesday, but that's neither here nor there. The only reason I went back there was because someone bought me a gift certificate. So we arrived and the hostess did not acknowledge us for fifteen minutes. She was rude rude rude rude rude. Once we got seated our server was that great though the chef was nice. The sushi took forever and was extremely overpriced. It seems like people go there for the feature of ""beautiful people"" which is one of the dumber things I've heard about a restaurant these days anyways. ""Oh let's go to that place where all those beutiful people go for some sushi."" Where are we, LA? Pros: Green Tea ice cream Cons: Slow service, rude hostess, crowded seating more

Unless you are a sushi fan at any astronomical price ... avoid it. 4/17/2007

... 30 bucks later left starving for IHOP! Noisy, way too busy with grown up kids that appear to think that this is the ""cool"" place to be ? no thank you. \r Pros: Have something to eat before going there or be sushi at any price fan! Cons: Noisy, Chaotic, disorganized, overpriced etc? more

Overrated, get your sushi elsewhere unless you're only going to 'be seen' 1/24/2007

Sushi Den is fine but it's not the end all be all of sushi. It's constantly packed and there are constantly lines and I can't figure out why except that someone decided that it was an 'in' place to go. There are better options in Denver where you don't have to step around a Hummer to get to the door. The management is indifferent to their clientele and it's painfully obvious that their only motivating factor is money. Their fish is fresh, but it's hardly inventive or distinctive. The last time I was in, I was seated promptly and had an adequate server, but the spider roll was ... I don't know how else to say it - 'off'. It wasn't good. I have better places to spend my money. Pros: Tons of seating Cons: It's not about the fish, it's about the crowd more

Crowded, but high quality. 1/3/2007

There's a good reason why this place is so damn popular -- the food is terrific. When friends want to go there, I sometimes dread the crowded restaurant. But, by the time I'm eating, I'm so glad I'm there. You don't have to pay this much for sushi, but you're really getting a great evening. If you can eat here on a weeknight or an off-hour, you can probably avoid the worst of the crowds. Definitely worth trying if you've never been there. Then, after dinner, go across the street to the coffee shop. Pros: Delicious food, great night out location. Cons: Frequently packed to the gills. more

Sushi so nice! 12/2/2006

Sushi is da bomb here! Fresh and slides down your throat with no fishy smells, I love it! I don't recommend getting the spicy Seafood Pasta, not very good in my opinion. Go for the sushi and ambiance. Pros: Fresh sushi Cons: Long wait for table at times. Entrees not as good as sushi! more

best sushi atomosphere 11/21/2006

the is the best place to go for sushi, hands down in denver for the TOTAL dining experience. now, i am a sushi lover, and i will say that there are other places in denver that rival sushi den if you want a quick bite, if you want to chill with friends, or if you want to skip ambience and skimp on service. however, sushi den is by far the best place to really dine for sushi. besides the long wait on fridays and saturdays (reservations are not taken) the night is perfect. i love the ambience of the sushi den, the flow of the restaurant is very comforting. the service is always excellent, and the staff is very very knowledgeable regarding any sushi related question you might have. they also make the best extra dirty grey goose martinis in denver. Pros: delicious sushi Cons: high price more

Denver classic! 10/15/2006

Competes with Sushi Sasa for best fish, but is such a scene that if you don't go on 'off' hours, its a long wait...service and staff are excellent, though. Its worth the effort for the fantastic fish. Now that they have upgraded thier wine list, its even better than before. Pros: Excellent fish Cons: Can get really busy fast! more
