Good 9/17/2006

Good sushi, but pricy. Had a long wait, but very trendy. Expect to valet park. More of a date restaurant. Pros: great sushi, great dynamite Cons: long wait, and hard to find parking more

Sushi Den 8/26/2006

Sushi rolls excellent, entrees of Ahi and Scallops also excellent. Wait was predicted at 7 PM to be 25-30 min, but was 40 min. Was there on Tuesday,8/22/2006, my birthday. The main problem at 7:40 PM was the extreme noise by mobs of peope seated and queuing 3-deep at the bar just behind our table. There was a window table, empty but not yet cleaned when we were seated 2 tables out from it, which I requested to wait for, but was told we couldn't have it. Five min. later, Tom Strickland, well-known candidate for Senate, appeared at that table with his daughter. We did not see him waiting outside or inside when we went in. I voted for him twice, and introduced myself. Obviouslty preferential seating!\r \r My main complaint was the NOISE, which I would estimate at about 90 DECIBELS , and which actually hurt our ears!\r \r Weather was pleasant outside, with a cool breeze that evening, and there were benches available. The socialites patronizing businesses North of Den hogged the sidewalks as if they owned them. We had parked 1 1/2 blks NW on a side street. Hate Valet Parking.\r \r If you can tolerate the see and be seen atmosphere on the sidewalk and inside the restaurant, it is excellent food. Previously we have always gone at opening time, and were seated immediatly. I would not call it an intimate dining experience, given that I could hear the people at the table to our right shouting at each other in order to communicate. Best to go there during high time and not expect to have a conversation with your companion. more

FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE!! 7/16/2006

I have been eating at the Sushi Den for over 10 years and 3 remodels, it is still the best sushi in Colorado! Cons: Parking but they have valet more

This sushi will melt in your mouth 3/30/2006

We had dinner at the Sushi Den for the first time last month. This sushi is the best in Denver, it will melt in your mouth. We left there stuffed and really enjoyed it. The service was great . This is a must if you are looking for the best sushi Pros: Friendly staff, Great food Cons: Parking, dark bathrooms more

Fantastic 2/14/2006

The best sushi in Denver. Only downside is that they don't take reservations so it can be quite a long wait. Go during the week, as the wait is less, or arrive right when they open. Pros: Great Sushi, Nice Atmosphere, Nice Wine Selection Cons: Parking, No Reservations, Long Wait more

Blown-away 2/2/2006

I have heard about Sushi Den from so many people. I am from Japan, so I know what the true sushi is. Simply stated, the standard of this sushi bar is just like what I know in Japan. It was so busy when I visited. With the number of people they serve, fish must move so quickly. No wonder their sushi is far better than any sushi bar I visited in Denver. Pros: freshness, innovative, unique Cons: busy, crowded more

disappointed 12/14/2005

dine there last nite because of friend's birthday. Very unimpress. They maybe popular but that doesn't mean they are good. Expensive and not very friendly. We dined in the back room ... say no more There are plenty of sushi restaurants in Denver and why does everyone want to go to sushi den ... Pros: pretty people Cons: price, attitude, food more

What are you talking about?! 9/21/2005

I cannot believe all of these reviews! I went to the Sushi Den once, and was extremely unimpressed with the sushi preparation. The rice should not be falling apart. Granted the fish was fresh tasting. I had heard so much about it since moving to Denver that I thought maybe I just got unlucky the first time. Second time...same deal. Poor preparation. It seems they are too busy to keep up. The lines out the door, and waits are ALMOST as pathetic as the lines at Rio! Good ambiance, fresh, but there are MUCH better places in Denver for sushi. Pros: ambiance Cons: food more

Amazing food 9/17/2005

I'm very much a sushi connoisseur and have been lucky enough to eat at some of the best sushi places in the US. Sushi Den was amazing. The service isn't great, but the food makes up for it by leaps and bounds. We went on a double date- 4 people and ate and drank sake and mixed drinks for 2 hours. I recommend the jalapeno hamachi sashimi, the big O, and Kobe beef rolls. (Although I'm sure I forgot to mention several other things). The best part of all, when we got the bill, it was $140 for 4 people! At most places that I've been to, that would have been the total for 2 people! A great value for the money! more

Upscale Sushi Den- lives up to it's Name 8/2/2005

I say quality is what attracts the crowd to this den, and I admit it's a bit pricey, but every delectable bite is worth it. If you're being introduced to it for the first time, this is the place to come-you don't have to worry about gauging your experience on sub-standard food. The quality is fresh- flown in daily. It is a VERY romantic place to go- the lighting and the warm colors create an inviting mood. Some suggestions for the 1st timers- try the cooked unagi- it's really good, shrimp tempura roll, and the toro-sashimi, and the firecracker roll. I also tried the kobe beef roll- which is tasty on a whole nother level. Topped it off with Green Tea ice cream- interesting but surprisingly complimentary to the meal. Just FYI its about $7-10 per roll unless they're a specialty or something, and the rolls are 6 peices each. Pros: quality, quality, atmosphere Cons: parking more

Area's finest sushi 7/10/2005

I can't help but laugh when people talk about this place as being ""yuppie"" or ""a place to be seen."" Last I checked, there aren't any celebrities frenquenting. I also don't think anyone is trying to impress anyone by going to a Sushi restaurant with relatively mild prices and informal atmosphere. It's not Denny's, but it's not Nobu either. Might as well hit up Champp's to ""be seen"" and let's hope you're not young wearing something beyond overalls. What Sushi Den is all about is GREAT Sushi. They have the fish flown in daily, prices are very reasonable, service is always top notch, and they always have new varieties depending on the season. The Sake menu is also solid, with lots of different options. It's far and away Denver's finest sushi restaurant. The only downside is parking, but that's just because of the location, which can't be helped. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Service, Price Cons: Parking, Sometimes Crowded more

what planet are you from? 6/11/2005

No wait, r u kidding? There is always a wait.. that's why the see and be seen goes to the Den.. Cons: crowds, price more

I don't like it !! 6/11/2005

Why do people love this place. it is too noisy, too showy, to expensive. I hated it... Cons: noise, price, attitude more

The Best! 6/9/2005

The best restaurant in Denver, if you love sushi. The drinks are fabulous, the scene is fantastic and the food is to die for. Sometimes service is slow... but it doesn't matter, because it's so fun people watching! For all of you who think it is too snobby or pretentious, or too expensive, then move to Wyoming! more

Expertly crafted everything. 5/12/2005

I have been to the Sushi Den 30+ times. 95% of the time without a reservation and I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. However, I would be willing to wait hours for the rice alone. I beleive they have 4 people every night/afternoon whose job it is to just make rice. It is by far the best sushi I have ever had. I would not be suprised if it IS infact the best sushi in the United States. Yasu San and Toshi San have worked very hard not to sacrifice any quality in their food. From designing their very own propane powered pressure cooker to cook rice in, to flying fresh fish in almost daily. Not to mention the chef's are EXTREMELY well trained, and by extremely I mean YEARS and YEARS of training. Pros: Rice, Fish, Perfection Cons: Other restaraunts more

Fabulous sushi 5/2/2004

Sushi Den has fabulous sushi. Unlike others, I don't think the price is outrageous. Because it's usually a la carte, sushi is never cheap (or you should worry about it if it is). The fish is amazingly fresh and Sushi Den excels at both traditional and more creative presentations. Overall, I think this is comparable to Blue Ribbon Sushi or the now-defunct Sushisay in New York. What a great asset for Denver. Pros: Extremely fresh fish, Great miso, Space to wait more

The Beautiful People... 1/26/2004

Sushi is very good. The ankimo is exceptional. Drinks are too expensive. Price is expensive. Very crowded - not worth the hassle, unless you want to pretend you are in Hollywood or the like. Very pretentious. Wait staff can be poor and rude. Pros: Good sushi Cons: Crowd, The Wait, Price more

I miss it. 12/12/2003

I lived in Denver for six years before moving back to San Francisco. This was my favorite restaurant in Denver and continues to be my favorite sushi restaurant in the US (there is one place in SF that is as creative with their Sushi- Kabuto, but in all Sushi Den is it). The fish is flown in twice a week from Japan- where they have another restaurant. It can get crowded which is why I usually went for lunch. There is one main reason I would move back to Denver, and it is not the price of homes, it is Sushi Den. Pros: Creativity, Freshness, Ambiance Cons: Crowd more

Additional Praise 10/8/2003

Having tried sushi in many States and the far east. Toshi San definately sets to standard for all others to emulate. Pros: Innovative, Tantalizing, Unique Cons: Expensive more

Sushi Den is the best!!! 10/8/2003

Without a doubt Sushi Den is the best sushi restaurant in CO, if not the United States. They have the freshest fish and will make sure your order is correct and how you want it, special requests are welcomed. Japon, Nobu (Las Vegas), and others just cannot compare. Pros: Freshness, Special Requests OK, Quality Cons: Very crowded, Long wait more
