eeehhhhhh 9/7/2008

I went to Steuben's with my wife on Thursday night to get some dinner because a friend had recommended it. We normally like to sit at the bar when we go out because we feel you get better service, but when we got to Steuben's that night we didn't find the half dressed, butt hanging out bartenders to our taste. seemed a little trashy. Anyways, we got a table and it took about 15 min to get our drinks which seemed to be because the bartenders were to busy partying. Our food was great! Loved the gravy fries! Service was also good although they seemed a little flustered. Overall I think we will come back just not at night during party time. Pros: Food Cons: bar scene more

Nice atmosphere, good quality. A little more variety, though? 8/25/2008

I have eaten countless times at Steubens--their dishes are creative (although almost too complicated on some) and good quality. I recommend their plain egg sandwiches or the french toast (although the caramel sauce is a bit over the top--I would suggest getting it on the side) for breakfast. Their burgers, pork chops, grilled vegetables and chicken are all superb--perfectly cooked, fantastic quality--down to the sandwich buns which are superb quality. I would suggest that they branch out from shredded iceburg lettuce to at least a Romaine on their sandwiches, however--it does not do them justice. A downside is that most dishes come without a side included, except for some of the entrees, and these can run you a few dollars a piece--but all are great, from the roasted vegetables to the homemade biscuits, to the excellent fruit cups and their long, thin French fries. The food is a little pricey, but it is good quality--this is not your local greasy spoon. Alcholic beverages are also steep although the bar area is a great place to relax after work or to wait for your table (usually there are not long waits even though the restaurant is usually packed). Their desserts are pretty good-from the butterscotch pudding to the (slightly too sweet) coconut cake. I haven't had the brownie a la mode, but it looks ridiculously good! The service is always friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great--retro/funk with comfortable seating (including patio and outdoor seating on 17th) and there is even a free (albeit small) parking lot. It's always clean indoors and out. My one suggestion would be that they change up their menu to offer more variety and healthier options--most items (e.g. the fried corn (yum), mashed potatoes, or items with fattening aioli spreads) are not good for the hips or the arteries. Also, I am surprised that they open at a late 10am on Sat and Sun for brunch! Overall, I heartily recommend Steubens as a great place to eat or hang. Pros: Very good quality food, good service, off-street parking, plenty of space. Cons: Prices a little higher than you'd expect, can have more variety on their am/pm menus more

Yum! What great comfort food! 6/9/2008

Sparking fun and delightful service buoys this eating establishment mellow cuisine. A mellow Monday night crowd was the perfect setting for a first-time experience. We cannot wait to go back! more

great drinks 5/15/2008

having read almost all the reviews of the place I find it hard to think that most people know what they are talking about. I eat at steubens all the time, while everything everytime is not perfect I respect the fact that they try damn hard and if I have an issue they fix it. One note for all of you doubters TALK TO A MANAGER. That goes for any restaurant not just Steubens. The prices are right on the portions are more than big the food is solid and the staff is good. I feel that most of the people that complain on here are the ones that would rather be eating at a big chain that tastes the same anywhere in the world with ""chefs"" pouring food out of microwavable bags than support independants. more

Great Service! 5/9/2008

I usually visit Steuben's for my lunch break since I work in the area. Ocassionally there will be a wait but there is usually a spot at the bar for lunch. The service is always great! The waitstaff and bartenders are always friendly and outgoing, and the food is amazing. Last Tuesday I didn't have time to eat in so I called ahead for take-out. The girl behind the counter has amazingly friendly. She didn't just have my order ready, but recognized me from when I came in to eat. She introduced herself and said she'd make sure to say hi when I came in to eat next time. I got back to my office and my green chili cheeseburger was just as good as eating in. My fries were nice and hot too, since she waited until I arrived to order them from the kitchen. Nice touch! Pros: Great food, great people Cons: parking, sometimes crowded (but I guess that's because they're good!) more

Tiny Portions, High Prices 5/9/2008

Great servers. Nice atmosphere. That's about it.\r \r The prices are very high for what you get. The food, nearly ""bad"", or at least mediocre. \r \r My party of 4 went there on Sunday, 2/17. Not including drinks or tips, we spent $110+ and left hungry. Went on to a Thai place around the corner.\r \r One person ordered the Lobster Roll ($21). This was the tiniest sandwich ever seen. LOL. Plus, the lobster (they said it was flown in daily) was dry and chewy. I've had much, much better even in Florida (no lobsters there either). You expect lobster to be flaky & buttery. This was chewy. I doubt it was ""fresh"".\r \r Another had the shrimp po-boy and complained it smelled fishy. As anyone who has lived on the coast knows, fish/shrimp only smell fishy when they get old, or go bad (maybe fried in old oil?). The shrimp was tough to boot. \r \r One appetizer, the calamari had almost no calamari in it. They were the tiniest little rings. We actually dug into the appetizer with our forks to FIND the calamari. It's mainly onions and olives in a vinegary sauce. Not worth the price. They also need either descriptions or a picture on the menus. \r \r The macaroni? Tastes exactly like the Stouffer's frozen entree in the grocery store. Hush puppies - in sugar? For $3, we got three golf ball-sized hush puppies, covered in sugar. (???). Also not worth $3, let alone the fact it was covered in sugar - and listed as an appetizer, not a desert. Maybe they do these different in the West?\r \r Trout Almondine. One member liked the trout, but picked off the olives. Said the sauce was vinegary. Who expects green olives when they order trout with almonds?\r \r All in all, probably a nice place to meet for a drink. Maybe for lunch, if you know what you are getting. Otherwise, avoid. Bland food, extremely small portions, and high prices for the amount you get. No value here. Nothing seemed fresh either.\r \r That's sad, because it's a nice place, nice atmosphere (even great music) and good drinks.\r Pros: Music. Drinks. Cons: Very expensive for tiny portions and mediocre food. more

disapointed for the first time 5/6/2008

I have never in my life written something like this, but for some reason I felt like I had to. I go to Steuben?s for lunch maybe once every two weeks, and I sit at the bar and order a sandwich or burger for something fast. I have never had a bad experience there, and I?ve gone in since they opened. I think they are a great addition to the neighborhood. However, I decided to take my wife there for dinner one night, do to that fact that I take a lunch break there and she hasn?t had a chance to go with me. Everything started off great, we were kind of celebrating. But we did not get any service for maybe 20 minutes, and I say that lightly. When our drinks came I asked our server her name, and for the life of me I wish I remember what it was. It was something like Alison or Ally. She brought us the completely wrong drinks, and when I tried to get her attention she just stood there by the bar joking with her friends. Finally she came back and I told her that it wasn?t right. She looked at us and said ?nope that?s what you ordered.? It was very condescending. We shrugged it off and went on with the meal, and got what we wanted the next time around. The food was really good and I had no complaints. I did have a problem with the way we were treated by our server. After another 20 minutes she was no where to be seen. To me it seemed that she was more interested with sitting at the bar and talking to friends than us. I have never been treated with such disrespect in a restaurant. The only thing that made me not walk out was the busser that filled our waters, because that was the only service we got. I will go back for lunch but I will never go back for dinner. My wife thought I was insane to take her to a place where no on cares. Sorry Steuben?s, I hope it was just a one time thing, I?ll try back in a few months.\r Pros: Fried chicken Cons: service more

Great down home good 4/16/2008

Went for my birthday with 12 friends. They made a special exception and let my husband make a reservation for such a big party. The drink selection was great, and everyone loved their food. The only bad part is that we were all too full for dessert. The final bill was amazingly cheap for such a large group - this place is fun. more

Always a good time 3/31/2008

I love this place! The food is always consistently tasty (thanks to owners from Boston who know good food), the service is great, the patio is nice and the hash browns at brunch are fantastic. Steuben's never lets me down - great neighborhood restaurant without the fuss. Try the philly cheesesteak or cheesy brocolli too. more

Great food, poor service 3/26/2008

Love the food - hate the service. Went in on a Monday night for food and fun and ended up with great food and poor service - at the bar. The bartender acted as though he did not want to serve us and could not be bothered with us. I was upset because I choose to go there and then felt bad that we were rushed and never given last call for food or drinks. We wont be back any time soon. more

A Classic 3/11/2008

Steuben's is such a great place! The food couldn't be better and the atmosphere is very fun! I have only been for lunch a few times and have avoided the huge wait. I will definitely come back for brunch and dinner. I have tried something different each time and then take bites of my friends' meals as well and this place is too good not to try! The hardest part is deciding what to have! Pros: Food, service, ambiance Cons: Can't think of any! more

Go on Tuesday's for the Meatloaf special 3/4/2008

My friends and I dined at Steuben's a few weeks ago before a concert and I was amazed!! Great atmosphere and energy. The staff was great. Luckily for me We went on a Tuesday night when the Meatloaf is the special. (we had a 40 min wait even with reservations). Since this was my first visit I wasn't sure what to expect but I need not worry. I ordered the Meatloaf with potatoes and gravy and it rocked. I wish I could have the recipe!! The four of us shared a bite of each others orders and everything was awesome. We ordered the crab cakes, fries, Meatloaf, grilled cheese, chocolate shake and chowder....all fantastic. My friend ordered the green beans and they were buttery but too salty for me. \r I am bringing my husband on Tuesday and you know what I will be ordering...well maybe I'll try the fried chicken and he can order the meatloaf. Keep up the great work Pros: All good, just try to get there early in the evening on Tuesday nights Cons: Parking is limited more

Great Date night with my wife 2/20/2008

Packed restaurant and plenty of fun! We had cocktails and dinner on our first night w/o our new baby! Go to this place and try the habanero corn! more

I get excited every time I walk in the door... 2/11/2008

The decor is really cool, the people watching is excellent, and the service is very friendly. I really want to love this place, but the food is just not quite good enough. On Saturday, my husband ordered huevos rancheros, and there was no green chile (or sauce of any kind) on his eggs. His dish totally lacked flavor. I have had some good items, like the eggs benedict (which had excellent hollandaise), but too often, menu items just lack oomph. It's almost like they forget to put in some of the ingredients. Like I said, I really want to love this place and, more than anything, I hope the owners (who also own the wonderful Vesta Dipping Grill) read this and really consider revamping the flavors in some of their dishes (or maybe they need to improve quality control in the kitchen). The fun atmosphere will get me back into the restaurant, and if the food gets better, I will be back often. Pros: ambiance, drinks, service Cons: taste of food more

Awesome brunch food, staff, ambiance, etc! 11/18/2007

I came with my young daughter around noon this morning to enjoy a Sunday brunch. We originally were seated promptly (much to my surprise, there usually is a wait on Sundays) outside. It was a little chilly for my daughter, and the hostesses were more than friendly getting us moved inside, unlike the usual snotty people I see at other restaurants. We were seated up front, which is very nice, you get to see the game and a view of outside through giant garage doors. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly - he made sure there was always water on the table - a plus for thirsty people! He also checked in to make sure our food was good, which I always enjoy in staff - that they actually care.\r \r I had the crab cake eggs benedict, which, in a word, is INCREDIBLE. I am from the East Coast and am generally disappointed with Colorado fish dishes, but this tasted fresh from the sea. A little pricey, but well worth the money! I also had a bloody mary - very flavorful and fairly priced. I am always impressed by the items on the kids menu - a perfect portion that tastes good - it is clear care is still put into kid's meals - and my daughter is more than excited about getting a cupcake. Steuben's has an amazing staff - I've been here several times now and never had a less than stellar experience. Even once, when my eggs were cold, it was promptly taken care of with apologies from the waiter and the manager. On the way out, the hostesses always inquire has to how the meal was, and say goodbye very sincerely, even when they appear very busy. It is clear that the staff here loves their jobs in the way they work with the eating public, which is great to see in such a popular restaurant. I can't wait to bring my family in over Thanksgiving to enjoy such an enjoyable meal. Pros: Service, food, ambiance. Cons: Usually a wait for a table more

Scores well on Looks... Average Food 8/29/2007

Wow... this place rocks, eh? Well you'd think so. It's a great place for inexpensive dining, but the food doesn't live up to visual expectations you'll surely have. Many say ""it's like Mom's cooking""... I say ""I'm glad I didn't grow up in your house"".\r \r The physical building is sweet. The staff is friendly and the service is great... the food is average. I've been numerous times... and always the same outcome... average food leaving me wanting more. \r \r Most people will love this place and be satisfied... just keep your expectations in check. Pros: Killer Looks Cons: Average Food more

Sunday Night Suprise 8/18/2007

I drive by Steubens all of the time, always think about stopping in because it looks cool and busy, but I haven't had the time. So when my friends called me last Sunday and invited me out to dinner, I gladly accepted. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager, Sean. He took us to a booth right in front of the two huge garage doors in front. It was perfectly located, we felt like we were outside but still received the benefit of the AC. We started out with Deviled eggs, Crab Cakes, and Mussels all excellent. Our server, I think it was Liza, answered all of our many questions with ease and confidence, she was awesome. I was pleasantly suprised to find that Chicken Fried Steak was on the menu, with okra, no less. I'm from Texas so I know my CFS, and theirs was right on the mark. The rest of the group had Fried Chicken, Braised Short Rib, Cheeseburger & Fries, and Etouffee. All were top notch. Sean came by to check on us, I wasn't suprised to find that he was also from Texas, there had to be some longhorn influence on that Chicken Fried Steak. We were soooo full, but Sean sent out a couple of desserts, for us to welcome us, who he called ""Steubens Rookies."" We found room and thouroughly enjoyed the butterscotch pudding with nilla wafers and coconut cake. Overall, a great experience, I can see why they are always busy. If you are from Texas you MUST go try their Chicken Fried Steak, it will take you back. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Friendly Service and Managers Cons: Parking Lot is Small, the Bar was loud more

Great all around place to go out to eat 8/17/2007

I took my wife and 1 year old son there today. Both the food and service were beyond amazing. We'll be returning for sure. Pros: Excellent food Cons: Little pricy, but its worth it! more
