Review content:
I have eaten countless times at Steubens--their dishes are creative (although almost too complicated on some) and good quality. I recommend their plain egg sandwiches or the french toast (although the caramel sauce is a bit over the top--I would suggest getting it on the side) for breakfast. Their burgers, pork chops, grilled vegetables and chicken are all superb--perfectly cooked, fantastic quality--down to the sandwich buns which are superb quality. I would suggest that they branch out from shredded iceburg lettuce to at least a Romaine on their sandwiches, however--it does not do them justice. A downside is that most dishes come without a side included, except for some of the entrees, and these can run you a few dollars a piece--but all are great, from the roasted vegetables to the homemade biscuits, to the excellent fruit cups and their long, thin French fries. The food is a little pricey, but it is good quality--this is not your local greasy spoon. Alcholic beverages are also steep although the bar area is a great place to relax after work or to wait for your table (usually there are not long waits even though the restaurant is usually packed). Their desserts are pretty good-from the butterscotch pudding to the (slightly too sweet) coconut cake. I haven't had the brownie a la mode, but it looks ridiculously good! The service is always friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great--retro/funk with comfortable seating (including patio and outdoor seating on 17th) and there is even a free (albeit small) parking lot. It's always clean indoors and out. My one suggestion would be that they change up their menu to offer more variety and healthier options--most items (e.g. the fried corn (yum), mashed potatoes, or items with fattening aioli spreads) are not good for the hips or the arteries. Also, I am surprised that they open at a late 10am on Sat and Sun for brunch! Overall, I heartily recommend Steubens as a great place to eat or hang.
Pros: Very good quality food, good service, off-street parking, plenty of space.
Cons: Prices a little higher than you'd expect, can have more variety on their am/pm menus
