I sent my camera to this place two weeks ago. It is now over 2 weeks and I get no return calls or email regarding what the status is. I wish I had seen these reviews here before...

amazing 7/8/2011

Thought you might like to see a few examples of recent shots from here in Nebraska taken one afternoon with my converted Sony Alpha 900 (830 nm filter). I have printed these to 16x24 on my Epson 3800 and they are spectacular! Details are amazing. more

very pleased 7/6/2011

I just received my camera and have a few questions. How were you able to complete the conversion so quickly. I was not expecting to see my camera for a few weeks but it was back to my home in Vermont within a week. Also, I was told by one of your prominent competitors that the black and white conversion on a Canon XSi would not give me a pure black and white images straight out of the camera. The images I shoot with this camera are pure black and white right from the camera without setting the camera to black and white mode. I'm very pleased with the results of the conversion service provided by you and your staff. more

incredibly sharp 7/5/2011

You converted a Nikon D40x for me and soon after, there was a problem with a capacitor. I sent it back, and you took care of it at no charge, and I thank you for that. That said, I am having a ball with my newly modified camera. It's working great. With the right lenses, the 18-55VR, the 16-85VR and the 80-200 2.8, it is so incredibly sharp, I feel like I'm looking at a 8x10 contact print. I took a photo of Half Dome in Yosemite, and every feature and crevice stands out. I can see the individual branches on the trees on the top of the mountain. And the clouds, the clouds. They make me scream with delight, like Dracula and a gallon of blood. more

BEAUTIFUL! 7/1/2011

The cameras are BEAUTIFUL! I know they are used, but the cameras you chose look like new. They were packed very securely against damage, which I really appreciate. And thanks so much for sending them so quickly! I plan to put the cameras into student hands very soon. The kids are as excited as I am, and I already have a ""Reservation List"" of twenty two students! Again, thank you -- it's been a pleasure working with you, and I will recommend you to every other high school in the area. more

extremely happy 6/30/2011

The calibration of my camera is perfect. AF is very fast with sigma 50mm F1.4 EX HSM. In fact the photos seem to be sharper than they were before the IR conversion. I am extremely happy with the work you have done. I am grateful that you returned my camera to me via expedited service. I am impressed that you answered the telephone yourself and spoke directly to me. I wish I had sent my 5D2 Canon to you for repair rather than P****** C****** more

Thanks 6/29/2011

The most exciting invention in digital photography since the advent of the digital sensor itself, is the ability to shoot high quality Infrared imaging on the fly. Both your 590nm and 830nm have proven this to me above and beyond any doubt. As the saying goes, ""A picture speaks a thousand words."" And so each of the IR images your customers bring back from the field are testimonials to your engineering and customer service abilities. Thanks for helping me reinvent a new way of seeing the world around me. more

couldn't be happier 6/28/2011

I have used Spencer camera twice over the last few years and both times I was very satisfied. Most other repair places are all too wiling to want to charge upfront diagnosis fees before they would even give me a quote. Spencer camera was willing to look at it upfront and give me a quote so I could make up my mind whether I wanted to fix it or not. The service has always been excellent and repaired ahead of schedule. The last time, I brought my Sony Camcorder to them a week before Christmas. They put a rush on it so that I could have my camcorder for Christmas events. I can't tell you how happy I was that they were able to turn the repair so quickly so I could get my kids on camera Christmas morning. I couldn't be happier with their service. more

Great price and service! 6/27/2011

Very good service. I had sent my camera to another repair shop and they were going to rape me at more than $500. Spencer's completed the repair for under $200 and faster than the other shop took for the estimate. I love these guys! I have seen some bad reviews for them and simply don't believe them. My own business has bad reviews from people we have never heard of or worked with and I think that is the case here. Use them, I'm happy I did. more

Practically a con artist! (that's harsh but true) 12/21/2010

I wish there were a negative star option. Please don't waste your time or money on his ""service"". Mr. Spencer had my professional DSL camera and lens for months! And when I finally paid for it and got it back, I was able to use my camera once before it broke again. (My zoom lens had gone out and needed to be repaired. He met with me, looked at it, and confidently told me he could fix the problem.) I called and emailed many, many, many times to check on it without much success. And when I was able to actually speak to him, I was told everything from ""I'm waiting on the part"" to ""the part came but wasn't the right one"" to ""the part came but when I installed it, the problem wasn't fixed."" He never had it finished or could tell me when it would be. After a few months of waiting and paying over $300.00, I got the camera back with his ""90 day warranty"" and had it back to him within a week. It had broken again. He kept it for another two months and gave it back to me (I didn't pay anything) and it broke within another week. He had my camera and lens a total of 3 times and it never took more than 20 pictures. I didn't bother taking it back to him again. In a nutshell, unless you want the frustration of not having him reply to your emails or phone calls (I resorted to texting relentlessly) only to pay him for not fixing your camera problem... don't call him. It's pretty sad because we need more camera repair businesses. Sadly, I found out about his reputation after my experience with him. Good luck! more

Fraud artist 9/23/2010

This clown has had my camera since Apr 2010. He was available and chatty on email until I sent the camera. As well I mailed a money order. I wasn't given a time trame but figured 2 wks. to do an I.R. conversion should be more than enough but usually then double the time estimate so I didn't make any inquiries for a month. No reply to my email. I have emailed this guy several times, no response. I filed a complaint with the UTAH BBB, they abandoned it after a month because he's not a member and won't respond to them either. Someone suggested small claims but I live outside fo Toronto ON. so that's out of the question. I was going email a complaint to the local Sheriff but they don't have email and Alpine Utah's town web site has been updated since 2007 which makes me very skeptical of their competence. more

Ridiculous 6/11/2010

Someone recomended them to me for camera repair. We called and they said they would do a quote - just send it to them. We did. That was November 17, 2010. No one ever called back. Ever. In January I called them. They said they had it, it was fixable and told me how much it would be. I told them to proceed. Over the next four+ months I contacted them a few more times and got different updates as to the expected delivery of the replacement part, to the progress of the repair. Finally the end of May I emailed them and asked the either send me the repaired camera and a bill OR return the camera within 5 business days. No reply. Nothing. I read some other simillar experiences from other people on various websites I saw that someone had filed BBB complaint. I looked that up and it showed as resolved, so I filed one too. Magically on June 11th the camera shows up. There was nothing with it explaining the problem, or the delay. It wasn't fixed, but it did have everyting it was shipped with in the package. At least they returned it, right? Bizarre way to run a business. They never once contacted me in over seven months. The VM for the company was a grouchy old man saying to NOT leave a voicemail. Live and learn. I googled the address and it's a big home in a nice, new neighborhood. I guess he didn't really need the money or something. Perhaps it was a hobby he didn't devote much time to. Bottom line... Run, run fast in the opposite direction. Pros: At least they sent the broken camera back - after 7 months Cons: Everything! more

THE WORST!!! 6/3/2010

Wish you could rate 0 stars! We turned in a film camera to be serviced and another part to be fixed. He told us that we would get a call the next day with an estimate. No call. We had to call and we were told that the camera was ready but the other part needed some parts that he had ordered. We need the camera by a certain date because of a trip we had planned. We had to call 4 times within a 2 week time period to make sure everything would be ready. He gave us the same answer every time. Camera was ready but waiting on a part. We called two days before our trip. He said he would have it ready the next day and would call us. No call. We called the day before we left on our trip. (We were leaving at 3 am the next day so this was the final day we could pick it up). He tells us they have closed early so we would need to pick up the camera the following day. When we told him that was impossible he says he'll mail it to our trip destination. I sure as hell hope he does. It's ridiculous that he says he'll do one thing and knows the deadlines of the customer but he never succeeds in doing what he says he will. He says that he will call the following day to confirm that it's been shipped, but we know better. To get anything done you better be willing to ride his ass. I would never recommend him to any one. It's extremely off putting to have some one who refuses to communicate with you. Pros: Uhm... Cons: NO communication whatsoever, lies etc. etc. more

Awful service... 7/14/2008

I'm an artist, and find Spencer's Camera and Photo on the net, when I was looking for someone to convert to Infrared my brand new Canon G9 camera. I contacted them on the 18th of June 2008, when they promised a 4 days turnaround. They received on the 25th of june my $499 camera along with a $325 money order to cover the conversion job and shipping, when they notified me via e-mail of a reception of the package, and promised a fast completion. Based on their 4 days turnaround promise, I expected to receive the completed camera before the 4th of July when I needed a camera for a photo trip. They never called , or e-mailed me about a completion or a status of the job, so on the 3rd of July I called the business owner, when he excused for installing a faulty filter, (that they should inspect before installation). He also promised to ship my camera on the same day with the newly installed flawless filter. Since that time they never contacted me in any way. The camera never arrived, no answer to my phone calls, no response to my e-mails. I'm waiting and waiting and waiting. After 19 days wait I'm in doubts, if I 'll ever see my camera again and I may lost my money as well? Still no answer, no explanation, no camera, no money on the 14th of July 2008. That's how their advertised ""fast and reliable service"" turned out for me. Weeks of stress and disappointment is all I received until now. Pros: good sounding promises Cons: they don't keep their promises more
