excellent job 2/23/2011

I am a Bengal cat breeder and as such must have the best vet care. I have been going to Dr Thunell for several years now, and a extremely pleased with the quality of care he gives my cats. He is an excellent surgeon and is up to date on all the latest treatments and tests. He is always available for any emergency and I feel he is treating a family member not an animal. And he does an excellent job with some of my cats that are not so easily handled. \r \r The staff is very helpful and they are wonderful people that care a lot about animals.\r \r Veterinary care is expensive, and excellent care is well worth the expense. I feel Dr Thunell's prices are competitive and not out of line. more

If you pet is your child do not go here!! 1/9/2011

Over charged, rude staff...also would not transfer my dogs records even after speaking with "D" several times. Convinced me to get care credit because the charges were so much, but they promised me 12 months no interest....according to the company they never did this. Once again multiple conversations with "D" lead to no help. Multiple issues after my dogs surgery, disguising sutures with human hair sewn in. Definitely over prescribes. Very, very sad that my dog was put through seeing this clinic. I had just moved here and it was down the street and we had a semi emergent issue. DO NOT go here. If he is out of the office he has some lady vet replace him that doesn't have a clue.....My dog is my baby, not a $. They sent my dog home after her surgery, completely groggy, could barely walk, and did not help me load her in the car (shes 100# and I am clearly a small girl). They do not care!!!! more

disgusted by shelbyville road vet 11/18/2010

If you want to empty your wallet, this is the vet for you! They do not explain how to take care of your pet, just want your money. They take your pet to another room to draw blood etc. I could hear my pet yelling like he was being hurt. They sell you medicine but do not tell you the correct way to administer it. Half of their staff are teenagers. The woman at the front desk D is rude and and has a smart mouth. When I asked for my dogs records to be transferred they told the new vets office staff my dog was taking a insulin made for CATS not dogs. It cost $100.00. I guess they thought they would screw me one last time. My new vet appeared shocked that Shelbyville Road vet would order cat medicine for a dog. I could go on but I think you get it. STAY AWAY from this money grabbing office!!! more

Scam experts 7/22/2010

Who is running the place anyway, teenagers? Very unprofessional, rude. They would not give me prescription to buy my meds online, which are cheeper. They do not care about my pets, only how much money they can suck out of me. I will never go back there again. more

I took my dog to this Vet for some minor surgery. I felt I was "hustled" as the charges just for the consultation were almost $300 along with some lab work she didn't even need. I felt the staff was less then motivated in doing their jobs, lots of talking, being silly and no one at the desk when I came in. When I picked up my dog the male assistants were running the office and doing a very poor job...giving one customer the wrong medicine for her dog and ignoring me as they answered the phone and tried to answer questions for customers that came in after me. Pure chaos!!! And to think I left my dog in their hands. YIKES!!! I won't be returning! more

Very Gentle Care for All Animals 2/9/2010

My family and I have owned a dog named Maggie for about ten years now. As the days go by she becomes more frail and ill. As seeing so I've been needing to take her to the veterinarian for awhile and I chose Shelbyville Road Veterinary. When I went in with my dog the building looked very clean and lively. The staff was also pretty friendly and very kind to my dog, even though she looked horrible physically. When she was taken to the back her doctor inspected her thoroughly and told me that we had no choice but to put her down. He did say that it would be a painless process and that my dog would not feel a thing. I was really sad but I was very happy the doctor was so gentle and kind to her the entire time. I don't have a good memory of this place because of the condition Maggie was in, but I realize the service I received was top-notch. more

I have been going to this vet for 6 years. I really enjoy the ladies that work upfront and this was the main reason that I kept going back there. Every time I would come into the vet for something minor I always come out paying way more money then I thought I would and the Dr. would ALWAYS give several unnecessary antibiotics. I should never feel as upset as I did every time I went to pay my bill. My latest experience was that one of my dogs was not eating for several days so I wanted them to give her some fluids because I figured she was dehydrated. So, they told me to bring her in and they would take a look at her. Keep in mind she didn't have a temperature, she wasn't throwing up, and she didn't have diarrhea but I figured she was dehydrated. Well they call me and want to take x-rays and I really didn't understand why but they made me feel like I really needed to do it, so I let them do it. They told me they would call me and let me know what was going on but like always when they s more

Limping Kitties in Pain 11/23/2009

We took our cats, Beep and Cuddy, in to be spayed and declawed in August. It was really hard on them and a slow healing process. Twelve weeks later, Beep started limping on her left foot and a couple of days later, she started limping on her right foot. We took Beep back to the vet on Monday and they said they had not removed all of the claws. They said they needed to redo the surgery and would call on Tuesday to schedule it. They never called back..... and on Friday of the same week Cuddy started limping on her right foot. SHE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM! You can see their claws start to grow back out of their pads. We called the vet's office and we were told that, "The surgery would not cost us, but the antibiotics and pain medicine for afterwards would." We told the person we talked to we didn't think it was fair to pay for something we paid for once already. They responded with, "Well they won't need antibiotics." ARE THEY KIDDING? We asked if they were open Friday to schedule the more

Good veterinarian 4/20/2009

Also high employee turnover. As an ex-employee I trusted him with my pets but the mandatory testing was getting out of control. Pros: The doctor knows what he is doing. Cons: Doctor is always late more

Dr. Thunell saved my dog's life 9/24/2008

My dog was staying with my son in Fishers due to my work schedule. My dog (Dude) was taken to the Fishers Vet Hosp for diarrhea the first time and two times a month apart because although he did not have diarrhea, he was losing weight, his ears were turning black and leathery and he was very hyper. Fishers did nothing except put him on a prescription diet and order more tests. (Total of $900) When I saw Dude he was down to 15-1/2 pounds and had absolutely no body mass, I took him to Dr. Thunell. Dr. Thunell took him off the diet (which was for a dog with diabetes or digestive problems), put him on his regular food, and gave him something for his anxiety. (My son's dog had died, who was Dude's crate mate). He also said he had mites, which he also treated. Total bill: $132. In 4 weeks Dude gained all his weight back, his ears cleared up and he is the healthy dog he is meant to be. Fishers Vet is listed in Indianapolis Monthly as the best vet hosp in Indiana. They are the best more

waste of money 8/28/2008

Our cat sustained some sort of injury to his hip (not sure what) on a Thurs. Took him to the vet where they took xrays and sedated him to look for the problem. The vet couldn't find anything wrong, but put him on pain meds anyway ($350 total bill). On the next Tues, I noticed a small hole near his hip with puss coming out. Took the cat back where they re-examined him and he had been bitten by another cat and because it wasn't caught, was infected and required surgery ($450 total bill). (We really didn't feel like we should have had to pay since it was clearly the original injury that they missed the first time). The vet mentioned that they found a third bite mark they purposefully didn't treat because there was no sign of infection. One week after getting the stitches out, the third hole opened up and was infected. Went back to the vet, my husband was adamant that we not pay for this since the vet was clearly negligent. The vet storms out yelling that if we are accusing him of neglige more

My dogs ears are finally better!!!! 5/7/2008

I had been to numerous veterinarians for reoccurring ear infections and my dog got temporary relief. I tried SRVH and my dogs ear infections are gone. It took Dr. Thunell looking at the debris under a microscope to find what we were trying to get rid of, it was more expensive than any other vet had charged, yes, but it is gone. I guess the old saying you get what you pay for is correct. The staff was wonderful and showed us exactly how to clean the ears and offered to help if we had any problems doing it ourselves. I won't take my dog elsewhere. Not only our we as pet owners very satisfied with the care we receive here, our dog gets excited as soon as we pull in the parking lot. Personalized customer service and pet care at its best. I give them a big thumbs up! more
