Very Disappointed 10/24/2005

Upon arrival we were told that our table wasn't ready, so we should go to the bar. We do, but the bartender doesn't greet us. He was busy with paperwork of some sort. After we sat there for 5 minutes, he decides to serve us. After getting our drinks at the bar, we wait another 5 minutes, only to have the hostess not show us to our table, but point to a table across the room and say ""that's your table."" The bartender then becomes our waiter. When I began asking him questions regarding the menu, he either didn't know the answer or seemed annoyed at the question. We left absolutely no tip. The straw that broke the camel's back was this: Saha ran out of cous cous. Tell me, what kind of Arabic restaurant runs out of cous cous? That's like KFC running out of chicken, isn't it? Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

30 of us descended onto this restaurant for a birthday party last week. they were very accomodating, more so than other places, coming up with a special prix fixe menu which people could order from as well as pick anything else they wanted including surprise champagne and birthday cake for all. service was excellent, they were able to handle the chaos of a big group flawlessly. and of course everyone enjoyed the food and couldnt stop talking about what they all ordered. the pumpkin, carrot, curry soup was fabulous, people loved the seafood kibbeh, salad with tomatoes in season, orange chicken, tagine of lamb and this amazing fish stuffed with crab. the place has great ambience as well. people can forgo years of botox by making sure to make public appearances only under saha lighting. highly recommended Pros: great lighting, unique food, good service more

The food is awful! 8/5/2005

I have to wonder who wrote the reviews listed (was it the owners and staff??) b/c the food was some of the worst I've ever had. The Tiger Prawns had almost no flavor. The crab phyllo entree didn't taste like crab at all; more like a strange fish. My Mom ordered the salmon which I have to say was better than my crab dish but it wasn't good either. The food is very bland. My Mom isn't picky about food at all and she was very unimpressed. I went to Saha because of the good reviews on this site. We went on a Friday night and the entire time we were there only two other tables were taken. I was wondering why the place wasn't busy when we arrived and now I know why. I can't believe I paid $70 for such an awful meal! Service was good. Pros: service Cons: food, price more

At Saha Food is Art and Dining is an Experience! 6/18/2005

The dining room is beautiful and dimly-lit with a soothing red glow. The menu has an impressive selection of small plates, vegetarian/vegan selections, and seafood. Some favorites: Knaffe(sushi grade ahi tuna seared and crusted in phyllo shavings), Tiger Prawns in a rosewater, mint, and cilantro sauce, BBQ Tofu and Mushrooms, and the best Fattoush salad I've had in the city! To witness the ongoing creativity of chef Mohamed Aboghanem, try a daily special. I had an excellent mustard-lime marinated halibut filet over baby bok choy and spinach, with a persimmon salsa. I also loved the salmon baklava. The fava bean crostini was simple and beauiful: Crostini topped with a fava bean puree, accompanied by kalamata olives, roasted figs, or spanish white anchovies! The flavors are unique and amazingly combined in food that is divine! Pros: amazing flavors, nice beer and wine, great service more

I've been to Saha several times. Everything here makes me come back for more! The food: creative, new, bold flavors... I love getting a couple small plates in the middle to share as apetizers, each one has something so unique. The fresh ingredients, interesting spices. It is the perfect place to have a long, relaxing, special dinner. The red room, the kilims on the walls, the beautiful pictures make it a very cozy and romantic place to dine. Last but not the least, the owner/chef and his wife are some of the best hosts I've ever met. Very warm, kind, and friendly. Don't be surprised if you find yourself chatting and drinking wine with them late into the night... Definitely go and share the experience! more

World Class. 4/24/2005

I looked up Saha on Citysearch for my friend's bachelor party dinner. I was very pleased with the ambiance, the quality of service and the food. Our waitress (chef's wife) was the sweetest and most professional I have seen in months. The chef creation dishes sounded a little exotic (chocolate sharmoula, orange scallops, etc) but ended up being so delicious. The wine selection was great and reasonably priced. All 8 guests in my party had an excellent experience. I would go back anytime! more

This restaurant deserves your attention! 4/5/2005

I found Saha on Citysearch and was pleasantly surprised by the sensual ambience and quality of service. The food was AMAZING, and beautifully presented. I highly recommend the Talkin' Ravioli appetizer: the sauce was so delicious we mopped it up with bread after gobbling down the pasta. Even the music was luscious! This is such a romantic spot, equally perfect for a first date or a couple's night out. Pros: Veggie/Vegan options more

Amazing experience 3/27/2005

Yours for the taking! 2/4/2005

Going to Saha has provided us some of the most memorable and intimate evenings of 2004. From red-colored dancing to moving plates around the table....it feels exotic and refreshing. Mohammed is the chef of chefs....he opened a fine French red after a Xmas work party. mmmmm good! His wife, Marmee is featured in the art work on the walls and en vivo fills the room with warmth and serenity. Go! Go alone or a deux! Did we mention the food??? It rocks! Pros: intimate seating, delicious meals, wonderful staff Cons: need new door more

What a Great Time 1/24/2005

I have dined with my boyfriend at Saha several times, and we have always been impressed with Mohammed's creations. On our first visit, my boyfriend (also a chef) ordered the tofu with red curry sauce, and he said it was the best tofu he'd ever had in his life--that the red curry sauce was truly a unique creation--a Yemanese delight. On another occasion, we were blown away by the salmon crepes and the knaffe. The flavors are unique, distinct and the presentation is beautiful. The ambiance of Saha is quite special, with photographs from Yeman, and also some really beautiful hand blown glass lamps. The wine list is impressive, and the service is excellent. If you are looking for parking in the area, we always lucked out on two little alley streets just off Larkin, one is just north of Sutter, Stevenson St. They said they'll have valet parking soon. Pros: Delicious, Creative, Great Hospitality more

Best Middle Eastern in San Francisco! 1/18/2005

My wife and I went to Saha last week and we loved all the flavors that were mixed together - savory, spicy, creamy, sweet. We started off with the shiitake mango ravioli and the sauce was tangy, sweet, creamy and so full of flavor we ordered another one immediately! We also ordered the kofta, the meatballs were wonderfully marinated, spiced and browned. For the main course, my wife had the Saha curry, the tofu was so sweet, spicy and savory paired with squash and mushrooms - we've never fought over the last piece of tofu every before! I ordered the lamb tagine which was succulent and soft. The desserts were disappointing and unimaginative like the food, we are hoping they add some Middle Eastern-types of sweets to the menu! We'll be back! Pros: Food, Service Cons: , Lighting more

Yemeni Serendipity 12/29/2004

It is hard to tell what was more fantastic; the food or the service. Having never tasted Yemeni cuisine, I was a tad apprehensive. However, my knowledgeable server guided me through the whirlwind of flavors that is the Saha Menu. The food actually made me feel better, and the wine selection had me in a fine state to begin with. Kudos to you Saha! I look forward to my next visit. Pros: Food, Service, Food Cons: , None, None more

A delightful experience for the palate 12/5/2004

My wife and I recently stayed at the Carlton Hotel and were delighted when we found that Saha had opened. Prepare yourself to be amazed by the delightful combination of ancient flavors brought to our table by Chef Mohammed. If you enjoy eating meat, you can't go wrong with the Lamb Tagine. Among the small plates, the Tiger Prawns and the Ravioli in Mango Sause will blow your mind. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned a second evening to savor Mohammed's magnificent cuisine. The food is really spectacular. Pros: Food, Service more

Delicious Food at Saha 11/28/2004

Since the choices on the menu all sound delicious we decided to try almost all the appetizers and some of my friends ordered a few entrees. The small plates where amazing, the combination of flavors and textures are outstanding. The seared scallops on sweet potato is heavenly. Everything else was also really good and Mohamed is a very generous host. The service was friendly and professional and we had such a good time there that we'll be back soon more

So Good I Can't Stop Talking About It 11/16/2004

I went last night and it was awesome. The ravioli comes in a fantastic mango sauce that we couldn't help but sop up with the bread. The Fouel was a unique flavorful dish. There wasn't a drop left! The crab island, you get a different taste with each bite - a great combination of flavors and textures. The chocolate cake has a hint of orange but not too overwhelming, and with its gooey interior is like a chocolate souffle. My boyfriend doesn't like sweets and ate at least half! The wine list is really well priced with several extremely affordable by the glass options. In fact the whole meal was far cheaper than I'd have expected. And the service is very hospitable. My water glass was never more than half empty and I was offered another glass of wine right as I finished my first. We'll be back! Pros: Great date spot, Extremely affordable, Delicious! more

wow 11/12/2004

Very original middle-eastern cuisine, the classics are served in a different way. Also the variety of entrees is amazing. Pick your choice and you will be impress.... Pros: inexpensive, a lot of choice, tasty more

Amazing over and over again 11/11/2004

Ok so I know I've already put in one review but this place is worthy of another recommendation. The owner/chef at Saha is a genius! Every time we try a new dish, we are equally impressed. I am honestly confused as to which dish is my favorite; but if I must choose I'd say tagine lamb is to die for and warm chocolate cake with cardamom/rose vanilla ice cream is divine! Pros: Incredible food, Lovely atmosphere, Warm service more

A Taste Adventure 11/8/2004

I have never been disappointed with any meal. You will definitely taste flavors in this restaurant that you won't find anywhere else. Truly unique and delicious. Try the fouel and the ravioli! Pros: Excellent Food, Great Wine List, Great value more

Taste the love 11/8/2004

The food at Saha is a true testament of the love that Chef Mohamed feels for his art in the kitchen and the pleasure he gets out of pleasing pallets. The flavors and the ambiance at Saha are an exquisite combination. If you want to enjoy a tasty and fun meal this is the place! more
