Best

I've been using Safe Journeys since December and my dog begins wagging her tail as soon as we pull-up in front of the business. John comes to the curb to get her and she is always...

Worst

We took our dog to Safe Journey once and had a good experience and wanted to take him back for this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. We were quoted a price that didn't properly add ...

Best dog care! 6/3/2011

I feel confident that my puppy, Aasia, is well looked after and in good care when I take her to Safe Journey Dog Boarding! I strongly recommend them to everyone!! more

Best place ever! 6/1/2011

Best place ever, our dog is incredibly people shy, but whenever we turn the corner to Safe Journey, her tail beats like a drum against the seat. Friendly wonderful clean environment. Best price we could find. She plays inside & out and comes home tired. more

Thank You! 5/25/2011

Thank You! Raligh always seems to have a good time! more

Luke and Pepper love Crag and Safe Journey. It's their second name. Thank you for taking care of them when we can't bring them with us. more

Customer service matters! 5/20/2011

We took our dog to Safe Journey once and had a good experience and wanted to take him back for this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. We were quoted a price that didn't properly add up and when my wife called back to inquire about it we were told that there were unposted, undisclosed extra fees for the holiday (that still didn't make sense when we did the math) and that all would have been frustrating though understandable but then he was defensive and rude to my wife. Customer service matters. There are a lot of competitors that willing to be upfront, courteous and patient with their customers (and I found one or two to consider). To cap it off, when I called to cancel our appointment he was just as rude and abrupt with me. He made no effort to inquire as to why we were cancelling and rushed me off the phone. I was prepared to change my mind if he'd just said ""I'm sorry you're canceling - can I ask why?"" and then had just been nice and made an effort. I didn't expect or want a discount. I just wanted good customer service, maybe an ""I'm sorry I was rushed and a little curt with your wife - your business is important to us."" 60 seconds of effort and I'd be leaving a positive review. If Safe Journey can't handle being polite and decent to us, how is he going to be with my dog? more

I trust these guys. 5/18/2011

I've been using Safe Journey for the past 3 years to board my terriers Wyatt and Lian. I just now came across and read the reviews and have to say that I have had consistently positive experiences with this company. There was a period during which things seemed to be unsettled with the folks that lived and worked there, but the owners recently took back the daily running of the business and entrusted my boys to. They're well educated and know how to care for dogs as well as clearly communicate with customers. They keep the place clean and certainly have developed bonds with my boys. I trust these guys hugely and am glad they're back to doing everything hands on. more

Shock Collars Used--Beware! 12/28/2010

I have taken my dogs to safe journey in the Brooklyn Neighborhood where I live for about 4 years. In the beginning it seemed a great, albeit expensive, way to keep the dogs out of cages and well taken care of. My older dog, Bubba, would even try to go up the steps if we were just walking through the neighborhood!\r I am writing this review becasue the business was sold in 2010. The latest owners do not let you get anywhere near the inside of the house, ""for the dogs comfort and safety"". This new practice raised a red flag, but I trusted my history with the facility and I needed boarding care for the Christmas holiday, so I took my two there this last week. \r When I picked them up, it was around dinner time. When I say ""dinner time"" Bubba always howls for a minute. She started to howl, then yelped several times and put her tail between her legs. I later found that SAFE JOURNEY DOG BOARDING had placed an electronic shock collar on her.\r Whether or not shock collars are humane is a debate for somewhere else. Whether or not you'd expect Safe Journey Dog Boarding to use them (secretly) after reading their website about ""the safety and comfort"" of the animals is what I take issue with. The typeof pet owners that seek out cage free boarding in an old victorian house where dogs can roam free DO NOT expect their animals to be electrically shocked into silence.\r more

Shock Collars Used--Beware! 12/28/2010

This review is for Safe Journey Dog Boarding at 3525 Se Milwaukie. Singing Praises for safejourney 12/18/2009

I wish to express my support for ?SafeJourney.? Their location in Historic Brooklyn is near my place of worship and it?s a beautiful home and neighborhood. I utilize many of their services, and have had only a positive experience with them. They are completely responsible in their care and supervision of companion animals. They maintain high standards of cleanliness, are aware and considerate of their surroundings, and follow good business practices. ?SafeJourney? is especially noteworthy in that it was created by, and is staffed by, a younger generation of entrepreneurs. Mr. Ryan and Mr. Lioy are committed to ethical business guidelines, they are environmentally aware and concerned, and, most important to me as a pet owner, compassionate towards the animals in their care. My dogs are rescue dogs. They came into my life with problems arising from neglect and abuse. ?SafeJourney? staff have worked with my dogs, and their sensible, loving training methods show in the results. Pros: Responsible, compassionate more

Big fans for many years! Great service 12/17/2009

Iv beeen using safejourney since Nov 2006. My dog goes there mon-fri for daycare (they have my dog more than I do). the service is stellar, my dog is always happy and it's been great to have continuity with such a professional and quality service for this many years. they really are family and they've helped me raise my dog. Pros: Reliable, safe, and my dog loves it more

Safejourney was anything but a dream, more like nightmare 12/17/2009

I should have known better after seeing the ghetto area that they are in, but read some reviews that I thought were favorable (their obviously written by the owners). Let's just say that the communication was very poor, and upon picking up my girl, she seemed very anxious. I'll be using an in-home pet sitter from here on out, as there are many in the area who are trustworthy, and know how to do a good job. Pros: Not sure if there are any Cons: Poor Service, Not Trustworthy, Bad Communication more

Answer to Our Prayers 12/15/2009

THE BEST PERSON IN THE ENTIRE WORLD IS SAFE JOURNEY! Shaun and Dan are the owners. They are located on SE Milwaukie Ave. near the Aladdin Theater. WE LOVE SAFE JOURNEY. Sophie has a TON of medicines/eardrops/eye drops/ etc. They follow the routine beautifully. Of course they are cageless. The bassets stay in a beautiful Victorian home. There are no pesticides, the house is immaculate. We have boarded them there as long as 9 days at a time and have used them 20+ times so we're veterans and know we can trust them. ALSO....they have a key to our home and sometimes we just need a dog walker. They come in and walk Humphrey and Sophie but they know Grover just wants to go outside and go potty and go back inside. Safejourney is an answer to our prayers. Pros: Safe, Smart, Helpful, Trustworthy more

Tail Waggin Good Time 12/15/2009

You guys at Safejourneys are such an amazing family! thank-you so much for all you did for us over Thanksgiving!!!!! We were in a pickle. i knew i could count on you. You have earned our devotion. We are life-long clients. Pros: Only the Best in The City!!!! Cons: Simply the Best more

Love Safejourney 12/15/2009

our veterinarian, Laurelhurst, asked us to provide feedback for their list of contacts (favorite groomer, favorite petsitter, favorite daycare provider....etc.) We just want you to know that we were ecstatic when they asked us because both my husband and I say ""boy, do we want to tell you about our fabulous daycare / petsitter 'SAFEJOURNEY"" !!! You guys ar the best!!!! Pros: Loving environment, social play for dogs more

Overpriced, and Undercared.... 12/15/2009

I was sorely disappointed with the care that Sean gave my dog, and won't be back. For the amount of money he charged, and the poor treatment, I wonder how he's still in business. Cons: Lack of attention to detail, overpriced more

Great Doggie Daycare and Dog walking service 10/20/2009

A co-worker highly recommended this place a year or so ago for dog walking when I started teaching school. I had them walk my day week days and it worked really well. they kept a key to use, I gave them a code to my alarm and it was great. then I started teaching a few blocks away from their doggie daycare so now I use the daycare service. both services are have been lifesavers. Pros: Diverse Services, trustworthy, highly recommended more

I'll never go back, pet not cared for, home left unlocked 10/19/2009

Where to begin? My dog seemed attention starved, and very needy upon my return (which is very unlike him). My back door, leading to the back yard, was left unlocked! \r \r I left several messages for Shawn, but he never returned my call. Look elsewhere! Cons: Home was left unlocked, pet seemed distressed more

Student Friendly Pet Care 10/10/2009

I just got back from an 8 month internship in Europe. I should have writtenthis sooner, but better late than never. they took my little dog in their facility for 8 months, on short notice and did it at reduced cost--very reduced. Over this time, with me calling and emailing ever few days for 8 months, I got to know the owners rather well. they both have college degrees so they work with many students on pricing and doing special help because they know how hard it was to raise pets while getting a degree. they are amazing and they made my Europe experience possible. their cat place cared for my cats and did a great job as well!!! I think everyone should give safejourney a try. Pros: local, generous, creative more

Very Cool Place 10/8/2009

The day before my wife and I were to travel back east for a family engagement our house sitter canceled. We were turned away by several boarding places because our dog is mixed with pit-bull terrier and some places just refused to even talk with us. Shawn invited us over to safejourney that same day for an evaluation of our dog and could easily tell she was a family dog like any other. They took her in the next day and kept her for a week while we traveled. they really saved us in a pinch. She was happy and safe when we returned. she got to run around in their yard and be with other dogs. I'm glad a service like this is around. Pros: Flexible, helped us in an emergency more

Small Dog Heavan, my Pomeranian Loves it 10/5/2009

I?ve used them for boarding and grooming and was always happy with the results. Pomeranians are a bit pretentious, especially mine. They want attention and pampering. They get it at this place. I bring their little tents and blankets for them to sleep in just like at home. It is great. My dogs sleep with a heating pad. They let me set it right up. I don?t use the daycare regularly but when I do it is so nice to have it. I work from home but sometimes am gone for the day. It makes me feel better that my dogs get to play with the other wee-dogs and big dogs too. Shawn has a Pomeranian so they get to play together. It is very cute to watch. I trust this company with my ?kids? and have only had good experiences. ( P.S. I give them a 4 because I have to drive across town to get to them... its just me being a winer...nothing personal). Pros: Small Dogs Love it, Safe for Small Dogs, Fenced Yard Cons: Drive Across town more

Home-Style Dog Boarding & DayCare

Owner Message
  • Welcome to Safe Journey Dog Boarding - A crate free pet boarding facility.

    Serving our local community's need for top of the line crate-free boarding, Safe Journey is the best in the business when it comes to caring for animals, people and the Earth. It's crucial to our vision to be compassionate not just to pets, but to humans and our environment, as well. That's why we operate with social and economic justice and environmental sustainability in mind at all times.

    How it works:

    You make a reservation to bring your dog to us during check-in hours. Your pet spends the day and night at our comfortable Victorian home, with us and other dogs. For your dog's protection, our home is climate-controlled and our yard is pesticide-free. We care for an average of 5 dogs during the week and average of 9 dogs on weekends. During the Holidays we care for 15-19 dogs.

    While in our home, your pet enjoys frequent contact with care providers, petting, play time, and more. We follow all your instructions regarding your pet's feeding, medications and appropriate behavior. Dogs are free to roam 1400 square feet of space. Outdoors they can bask in the sun on our back deck and play in our fully secure and fenced yard.

    We are a family business and incorporate our lives into our work. This means we sometimes have to safely arrange the pets while we run to the post office, to the grocery store and other errands. All dogs need to be family raised dogs that get along great with people and other dogs.

    Our team members focus on providing the best possible care for your animal companions and we can claim the absolute best care providers in the area.. * Crate Free Dog Boarding
    * Dog Day Care
    * Dog Training
    * Pet Taxi - Door to Door Service
    * 24 Hour Onsite Management

    Please visit our web site for a full overview of our facility and services.

    We look forward to providing a loving home for your pets while you are away.
