The large pizza is very large 9/21/2006

As far as pizza goes, this pizza here is pretty good. It is good enough for me to drive 40 minutes to an hour for it. It was good enough for me to return 3 times so far and I will keep on going back for more. more

THERES NO PIZZA LIKE THIS... IT'S THE BEST. 8/21/2006

MY FAMILY LIVED IN SAN GABRIEL FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. AND SINCE I WAS LITTLE WE HAVE ALWAYS EATEN PIZZA AT PETRILLOS. NOW I LIVE IN BELL WITH MY FAMILY AND DON'T MIND TAKING THE DRIVE TO EAT THE GREATEST PIZZA ON EARTH. THANKS PETRILLOS FOR MAKING IT A FAVORITE FOR MY FAM. I'M SURE IT WILL CONTINUE TO BE A FAMILY TRADITION FOR ALL FAMILY TO COME. more

Great Pizzza, Has Traveled international 8/4/2006

My children are originally from San Gabriel and now living in England. On a recent trip my childrens first request was to bring a ""large"" Petrillo Pizza. Owner Reggie was extremly helpful in packaging a cooked product so we would not loose the product. Talk about happy kids. They would like for me to say Thank You Petrillo's and if there is a way we could send it on a monthly basis it would be great. Pros: Good Food, Great Ambience. Cons: Would like Petrillos to take reservations for large parties. That would be great more

What is the hype about? 7/25/2006

I told some friends I was working in San Gabriel and they went nuts, telling me stories about driving for hours to get Petrillo's pizza. Well I had to try it. The take out are is seperate which I thought might speed up the process. I walked in to the take out area and had to wait a few minutes before someone showed up to help me. I ordered a chesse pizza to go. 25 minutes later I had my pizza and returned to my suite to eat dinner. It was an average pizza. Maybe back in the back they had good product but I really do not see what all the hype is about. Cons: Parking is not great more

Easy to take out, not bad pizza either! 7/23/2006

After finding Petrillos on a ""top 10"" list a few months back, we just had to try it. Our friends are all native East-Coasters, and we are forever looking for great pizza. We called blind (not having a take-out menu yet) and ordered a half-cheese/half-veggie large (which is rectangle and very large!), and a medium sausage/mushroom/olive. The take-out counter is in a separate entrance, which I love. Made it easy to pick up quickly, and they were very pleasant and helpful. The pizza had a very thick crust, which is not my favorite (do they offer a thin version?) and the mushrooms were canned - yuck! But otherwise, the sauce was tasty and not too much cheese. The crust, though on the thick side, was nicely charred and not at all soggy. Held up with all the toppings nicely. Next time, we'll ask for thin crust, and we'll try the white pizza which sounds great. We'll definitely go back, but not for the mushrooms! Pros: Nice sauce, friendly service. Cons: Canned mushrooms. more

watch out, pizza for the burbs 6/4/2006

So after reading the reviews, I thought for sure this would be the place to go. But what I found was a restaurant lacking in atmosphere and pizzas that taste like if they have been put together by some giant machine. The only ""good"" thing about this place is that the portions are huge and there is no way anyone can finish what they pile on. So if you like mountains of food with people shoveling their food, this is a good place to go. But don't get me wrong, it is still better than dominos, pizza hut or the like, just not as good as all the reviews indicate. more

Great food! The pizzas are great, and the pastas are very good. The bread is good, and I always eat too much. The salads - not too special - but who's paying attention? The minestrone is nothing special either, but I really like it. Everything is fresh and homemade style. The cooks know how to cook! It's traditional Italian-American, not the trendier stuff you find at a lot of popular places. It's *not* a theme place like Buca di Beppo, Maggiano's, etc. but a regular restaurant with a totally normal, pleasant atmosphere. The service isn't that great. It's slow and they aren't really paying attention to what you need. We get better service at some Chinese restaurants, which are known for having minimalist service. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: service more

Petrillo's does not value it's customers 1/31/2006

I visited Petrillo's for the first time in some 20 years and I was saddened by what took place. My daughter and I ate in the restaurant, and the food (pasta dish and pizza bianca, were great, the service marginal, and the bus-boy was walking around with his underwear fuly expose on the backside, his pants mid-way to the bottom of his buttocks..not what one cares to see while dining. I ordered take the next week on a Saturday and again on Sunday. It was the last time I spend money on any of Petrillo's products. The take out personell were rude and alloof and even charge $ 1.00 for each parmisian cheese cup after paying premium prices for pizza. Poorly trained employees and relatives running this, do not value customer service. For poor service with an attitude try this place. Pros: Good Pizza Cons: Poor Cust Service, poorly trained staff, charge extra for cond more

More Locations! 7/12/2005

San Gabriel is a little far for us to enjoy good pizza! We use to live in Covina and there is another Petrillos in Glendora. We now live in Rancho Cucamonga but everytime we visit family in the covina area we would detour over to Petrillos. They have the best pizza EVER! I always have to sneak in an order of calamari as well....MMmmm! They have many of other great dishes besides Pizza. We were very happy to find out there is a brand new Petrillos in Upland. Now we don't have to drive nearly as far, YEAY! Thank you Petrillos! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Atmosphere, Menu Variety more

The Reviews Are True! 7/9/2005

I am originally from Philadelphia, which has some of the best pizza in the world. I have been dying for some REAL pizza, and hadn't found anything worth mentioning in Southern Cal., until I went to Petrillo's! After reading all of the previous reviews, I was a little skeptical. I thought that it might be a little over-rated compared to east coast pizza. Let me tell you that this is by far the BEST pizza you will find in the L.A. area. The crust is not doughy like most other places, and the sauce is to die for. The cheese is REAL mozzarella, and the service was great. I was in heaven, and will never go anywhere else for pizza. Thank you Archie & Helen for such a great meal! We're hooked, and I hope this helps convince new-comers to give it a try. (P.S. Their sausage is the best!) Pros: Dough, Sauce, Cheese, Toppings, Complimentary Bread more

If God liked Pizza, he'd get it a Petrillo's 6/22/2005

Yes -- you can eat even frozen pizza and be partly satisfied with it -- this is the wonder of pizza. But how rare to consume a truly great pizza. This is what you get at Petrillo's every time. It starts with the best mozzarella you will ever find on a pizza -- not the tasteless white glop you normally find there, but stuff you could easily eat all by itself, unmelted. Add to this pepperoni that packs a punch, pizza sauce that neither overpowers the palate nor ignores it, and a tasty, chewy crust. Moreover, Petrillo's stints on nothing. Nothing. Keep it simple and get the big rectangular slab of pepperoni pizza. The pizza is so good at Petrillo's that in my 14 years of going here (and I live in West L.A. -- 35 minutes away when the freeway is clear), I've never ordered anything else. Why? Pros: not too expensive, consistently good more

BEST PIZZA IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 6/6/2005

When you want the absolute best pizza, call ahead and make the drive to Petrillos. Many restaurants hold back on the amount of cheese they put on a pizza. Not Petrillos. Exceptional taste and value. Once you try their pizza, all others fall way short. Pros: value, taste more

no doubt the best in socal 6/6/2005

simply put this is the best pizza in LA. Authentic and worth the drive. excellent pizza. I have been eating here for almost 21 years and the quality is consistant. Pros: crust, sauce, ingredients Cons: no, nada, nope more

Doesn't get any better !!! 5/19/2005

Having been born & raised in San Gabriel, I was lucky to have the best pizza as a young man from the 60's on. Even worth calling ahead for a 40 mile one way trip to pick-up 2-3 pizza's for a gathering of friends or family. I've tried pizza all over the world, second best was in Guatemala City. A lot has changed demographically & visually in San Gabriel in 30 yr's with the large influx of Asian newcomers, in fact San Gabriel is world renowned for their asian cuisine. Whether I was off in the military, school, I always came home to that mouth watering treat. Also not to be over-looked is the sit down experience inside, now that there is an seperate entry for pizza pick-up. I know the family has several different outlets (including Mama P's), however nothing comes close to the original.......Damn, I'm hungry again !!! Pros: quality of food, priced fairly, hours & service Cons: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX more

Best pizza ever..mmmmmm!!!! 5/12/2005

5 STAR restaurant 4/27/2005

The Best Italian Restaurant in L.A 4/26/2005

I came to this restaurant for the first time in the 80's and still is my favorite every time I came to L.A. and I had to have some of their food not only the pizza and pastas but their appetizers and service is extraordinary, I have to name the great service provided by one of the best waitress she is sweet and so friendly but mainly efficient I own a mexican restaurant and I would love to have an employee like her I believe her name is Sharlene she is the best, and I can not talk enough of the clamari and the bianca(I think that is the name) pizza, a great choice for people that can not have tomatos. I LOVE THIS PLACE,,,,,,,, SHARLENE WE WILL BE BACK.... WITH THE ALL THE FAMILY... Pros: SUPER SERVICE, EXCELLENT FOOD, GREAT PRICE more

Mama Mia!! 4/14/2005

The pizza here is the best!! The sauce, the cheese, the crust..........the toppings!! I recommend the works, it is a total pizza dining experience! Pros: Great for kids, Great for groups, Awesome pizza Cons: Noise level, No parking, Wait for food more

BEST PIZZA AND ITALIAN IN L.A AREA 4/4/2005

PETRILLO'S IS MY PLACE FOR PIZZA. ARCHIE AND HELEN ARE THE GREATEST AND THEY MAKE YOU FEEL AS IF YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON THERE, EVERY TIME YOU EAT THERE. AS THE SAYING GOES, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, NEVER ANY DIFFICULTIES OR ATTITUDES TO DEAL WITH. JUST A GREAT TIME, PEOPLE AND ATMOSPHERE. THE FOOD IS CONSISTENTLY THE BEST. AS THE LOCALS KNOW, THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE 1954 AND SOME CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN GOING THERE FOR PIZZA SINCE THE BEGINNING. AS FOR ME, I HAVE BEEN GOING THERE FOR SO MANY YEARS THAT I FEEL LIKE A FRIEND AND NOT A CUSTOMER AS DO SO MANY OTHERS. MY FAVORITE PIZZA THERE IS CANADIAN BACON AND MUSHROOMS, THE PETRILLO'S SPECIAL, OR THE SPECIAL PEPPERONI THAT THEY USE. IF YOU WANT TO TREAT YOURSELF TO THE MOST WONDERFUL PIZZA EVER, YOU JUST HAVE TO PAY A VISIT TO PETRILLO'S. Pros: EVERYTHING more

Try the sausage... 12/20/2004

It's the best in the city! The scrumptous and slightly spicy sausage on your pizza pie accompanied by onions, green peppers, or as my cousin and I get it, with both, is a worthwhile investment. The sandwiches are above average, and the Italian pasta plates are decent, but a hit and miss until you find one you like. The bread and butter is a nice start to what should be a great and affordable meal! My only complaint is that in all the years I have been coming here, I have yet to find a great waitress! Pros: Pizza, Value, Meatballs more
