Broken hearted 6/8/2011

We changed from our previous vet to this upon the recommendations of another and after meeting with Dr. Heitman. We felt they were over-priced but were willing to pay a little more for our dogs care. Unfortunately, that all feel apart when our dog got sick. We admitted our dog, only to have them released the next day with no diagnosis. Brought our dog home again, and were back to square one and $700 dollars poorer! Brought our poor little one back in finallly got an X-Ray and was then told they could do surgery, but it was going to cost almost $4000 to do it! We were given no options, only an apology that they didn't offer ""payment arrangements""! We found a vet who was willing to do the surgery for less than a 1/4 of the price and who bent over backwards to help our poor baby who suffered for over 2 weeks due to poor diagnosis! In the end, our dog had the surgery, but was too weak to rally and in the end we ended up having to put our dog down! An earlier resolution, may have provided a completely different result! In the end the ""little extra"" we paid because we thought they cared and would give the best care really became about their bottom line! We have chosen to take our new babies elsewhere! more

Caring Staff of Animal-lovers 6/2/2011

I've always been pleased with the care my dogs have received at Ottawa Animal Hospital. It all started several years ago when walking downtown Holland, I saw a little bird that had fallen out of its nest and was in severe pain. I called around to local vets and Ottawa Animal Hospital was the only clinic that would help. Then when my other vet basically gave up on treating my senior dog with seizure problems, I remembered the bird scenario years before and changed vets. The vets at OAH did testing that revealed severe hypothyroidism that the other vet never bothered to check for. They bent over backwards being compassionate to my situation and helping me to afford the costly thyroid medicine my dog needed. My current little dog has a heart murmur that they have been able to keep at a level 1 with preventative medicine. I had an emergency late after hours and Dr. Heitman was kind enough to meet me at the clinic and see my dog right then and there. When my grandpa was basically homeless, we took his dog in for care and they were gracious enough to treat Grandpa's dog with a break in price from their Angel Fund. For all of the above reasons, I appreciate the OAH staff and feel confident taking my pets there :) more

Simply the best.. 1/10/2011

We have gone to mine for over 20 yrs mainly with cats til recently. I can tell you there is such love there and they all feel like family. They have been with us as we went through having to put one of felines down. I saw them cry with us and laugh with us as we brought in another. \r I can not imagine going anywhere else and receive the care we get here from both Dr Heitman and Dr Soper. So if you are in doubt I say give them a try and I am sure you will not regret it. more

Ottawa Animal Hospital 2/18/2009

I have been going to Ottawa Animal Hospital for 7 years. After my dog almost died under the care of Mapleview Animal Hospital, I researched , visited, check animal hospitals, and veterinarian licenses of the Vets from Holland,MI to Hamilton, MI. I have trained and cared for dogs for over 28 years, and after much research I found that the most professional, well educated staff in this area resides at Ottawa Animal Hospital. Because of poor vet treatment that my dog received at Mapleview, she has life time health problems. It was the doctors at OAH who pulled her through these issues and gave her the tender and professional care she deserves. more

Very Pleased 2/16/2009

We have been going to OAH for a little over 3 years now, and we are quite happy with the doctors and staff. They explain all options available and associated costs, and return phone calls if you have a question. They are very thorough and look at all possible diagnoses, from the most obvious to the more rare, and all treatments, tests and costs that are associated with them. They also follow-up with phone calls to make sure that 'Spot' is responding to the medicine or to give you an update on test results. Overall, we are very pleased with them. The only thing that I don't like is their referral for emergencies after 10pm (I think it is 10?) to the Emergency Animal Hospital up on Plainfield in Grand Rapids. Hopefully I will never have to resort to that, as driving that far in a true emergency situtation would be nerve-wracking and would take us at least 45 minutes. I do wish they offered emergency services at their office during the late-night hours. But other than that, we are happy w more

OTTAWA ANIMAL HOSPITAL 2/16/2009

When we picked up Murphy from the breeder a couple years ago, the first thing we wanted was a good check-up for him. We had done our research, and found that OAH was highly recommended. Of utmost importance to us was the quality of care for our new friend. Our expectations were, and continue to be met by Dr. Heitman and Dr. Soper. The staff is awesome - always helpful and interested in your pet.\r Initially, Murphy had some issues, and we were concerned. Tests were done, treatment prescribed, and to this day, he is healthy and happy - all issues were resolved. After visits, a staff member always calls to check on Murphy. We really are confident that our Best Friend is in good hands at OAH - Highly recommend!!!! more

Ottawa Animal Hospital 2/13/2009

I've been a client for 5 yrs now and have referred several people. I have absolute faith in the doctors at OAH. When an uncommon case comes to them they are more than willing and eager to network with other doctors to make sure no treatment goes undetected. A year after losing a baby to feline leukemia I was able to adopt 3 kittens from the Angel Fund. The love and care the entire staff at OAH gives to all of the 4 legged babies is wonderful. Its heart warming to know when you walk into their hospital, you and your pet child are not just a number and they are going to treat your pet child just as they would their own! more

Compassionate & Patient Staff 12/23/2008

Unlike the previous two reviews on here, I had a better experience at the Ottawa Animal Hospital. The staff technician spoke in a calm manner and showed genuine interest in my cat. I also felt the same way with Dr. Soper (spelling?), who took the time to explain my options in regards to cat's condition. She did not mind at all when I asked her to repeat or explain something. I was offered tea/coffee/water a few times during the time I was there (a few hours). The only CON I have is that the price for animal care was a bit high. I'm not sure if it is high compared to other veterinarians or if the costs for animal care seem high to me in general. To be fair, it was a $40 office visit and $50 fee for the Feline Leukemia Virus test. Unfortunately my cat tested positive for the virus and we chose to end its suffering. It was a very TOUGH decision on my family. However, the staff seemed to genuinely care about my pet and my family. I cannot say the same about another Holland animal hospital --> Mapleview Animal Hospital. Dr. Bader seemed completely rushed. He gave my cat an antibiotic shot and didn't even explain what it was for! I had to ask him later. That experience made me look into other vets in the area. I'm glad I found Ottawa Animal Hospital instead. Pros: Compassionate, knowledgeable and patient staff Cons: Costs for animal care more

Terrible customer service 3/15/2008

I am so glad I left this vet clinic. Their staff has to be the most unprofessional I've ever seen. When I would take my cats there, the staff up front would talk openly about topics that were more suited to a tabloid, belittle other staff members and even joked around very loudly about those who were 'different'. It was highly inappropriate. Worst of all, the office manager is not friendly at all, and seemed to encourage the unprofessional behavior. As for the services themselves, they are highly overpriced, and clients who spend lots of money there get special treatment. I never once got the feeling they cared for my pet- they only wanted my money. Cons: Office staff, Customer service, high prices more
