Opus, Opus, get it together! 10/20/2011

Used to love this restaurant but have seen it go down hill more and more each time I visit. Service especially. Just called (as instructed by my certificate) and apparently was a nuisance to the host. His flippant attitude wasn't appreciated. With so many options in Denver, I don't see myself making the effort to go all the way to Littleton to be treated like a burden. Sorry Opus, I will be spending my time and money elsewhere. more

Worst Restaurant in Colorado 7/1/2011

Basically they charged my credit card double for a meal and would not reimburse me for the money they stole. The food wasn't that great, but I was disgusted on how Micheal Griffin hung up on me and refused to help a customer who PAID TWICE for one meal. I would never eat there again and I am completely disgusted with their level of nonprofessional business practices'. Opus is a poor example of fine dining. They should be boycotted. more

Service Improvements, Restaurant Week 2/28/2011

Things have improved here since our first and only meal at Opus several years ago when we moved to Denver. We ordered one of two Restaurant Week options. I must first say that service and organization this time was crisp, quick and pleasant. The dishes were properly prepared, a minimum requirement for me. The now-common mesclun salad, was small and simple, but with subtle flavor additions and served at room temp., not cold. Nice enough. Next came shredded bison over mashed potatoes, with pleasant though unremarkable flavor. Last , dessert, was a smattering of preserved fruit in a hard pastry crust. My companion had a panna cotta, another dish one finds everywhere now. It wa ssmall, but better made than most. So, 3 points for one area of improvement and basic, correct prep., but no more because of the unimaginative RW offerings and Opus ' insistence on adding a higher-priced ""premium"" version RW option on the facing menu page. Sort of a backhanded insult really, suggesting that, if they must, they'll do a ""low-priced"" RW menu for the riff-raff, but they'll also offer a ""better"" menu for those with taste. As Denver grows and more restaurants come in to offer quality cuisine at competitive prices, maybe Opus pricing will evolve past this pricing obsession that has played a part in alienating customers. more

Terrible Service 12/20/2010

Planned a nice Christmas Ladies Lunch at Opus. Had a reservation and arrived on time. Finally greated by a busy waiter who addressed us by the wrong name. After we were seated,no one came to take a beverage order. After waiting 15 minutes,I got up and looked for a waiter. When I approached the waiter, he said ""what do you want, hon?"" I asked for service and finally got a wine list and a smart remark from said waiter when I asked about gluten free items. We ladies waited 30 minutes and still no one came to take our beverage order, let alone our lunch ortder. We left and went somewhere else. For a reportly fine restaurant, the service was extremely sloppy and slow. Will not ever go back to such a poorly managed establishment. more

Good Food, Poor Service 3/18/2010

Went here for dinner for my birthday a few weeks ago. We had reservations and showed up several minutes early.\r \r We were seated quickly, however it took around 10 minutes before we saw a waiter.\r \r We ordered an appetizer which took almost 20 minutes to arrive, we know this because the waiter comped us another glass of wine and said he had timed how long it was taking. Sounds like this may be a common problem. At least the guy was kind enough to recognize the wait and do something about it.\r \r The food, once we got it, was very good, no complaints there.\r \r The resteraunt is an open room with hard floors and hard walls. I'm pretty sensitive to loud atmospheres, short of being at the local pub, so at first I thought it was just me. That was until my fiancee noticed that it was really loud also. Could have just been a spirited crowd, but either way I left with a headache. Pros: Good Food Cons: Slow service, loud atmosphere more

Disappointing and possibly in violation of codes 3/12/2010

I was absolutely grossed out when I was walking toward the restrooms in the back of the restaurant. I had occasion to note that the chef who was preparing the food wiped his face and ran his hand through his hair and then was handling the food!! I returned to my table and told my dinner partner that I wanted to leave. He was determined to stay. I refused to order any food. I wouldn't go back there if they were giving the food away!! I have only given this review a star because Citysearch requires that I give it a rating. It does not even deserve one star. If you value your health, stay away from this place. Cons: chef wipes sweat from his face and then handles food - YUCK more

Worst service I've encountered to date in Denver 3/4/2010

My wife and I were excited to try out this restaurant in our own neighborhood and was severely agitated with the poor service. We were treated so poorly and left before the waitress even got to the table. \r \r We arrived 5 minutes early and was sat in the worst table in the restaurant next to the waiters station and since there were plenty of other unoccupied 2-person settings, we requested another table. The hostess planted us at the table anyhow, stepped away a few feet, turned around and told us she couldn't move us since they were extremely busy... which was far from the course at 4:30 in the afternoon. I was so insulted as to walk away from the restaurant to go next door to pub which had excellent manners! \r more

bad taste in my mouth 2/12/2010

I have dined at opus before for our anniversary and it was a good experience that's why we came back. This time, however, is a very opposite experience. The service was awful. We made a reservation but when we came in, they didn't even ask for our name and had us wait for 30 mins. I have noticed that they have seated other people who came in later than us (maybe they are regulars). Then when they finally seated us we waited 15 minutes just to get our menu. We rarely saw the waiter.. it was as if they were serving everyone else but us. We love fine dining and we are used to having 2-3 waiters serving us at a time. At the prices we're paying, we should expect a good service! After eating our first appetizer course, we waited for at least 30 mins before we called the waiter and asked them what was the hold up... Apparently the kitchen lost our ticket and have not even started cooking our order yet!!!! The food in this restaurant that day was ok (the fois gras was not to my standards) but needless to say, the whole experience had left such a bad taste in my mouth that we will never go back there again. Cons: bad service all across the board more

fine dining always at Opus in Littleton 6/2/2008

I have dined at Opus quite often, with out of town guests and with local friends....because of the inventive, creative and delicious entrees, apps and desserts, along with excellent wine choices and fine service, Opus is worth every penny and is a favorite among all our friends! Pros: delicious entrees, apps, desserts, great service more

non-inventive, outdated wine list 5/6/2008

We went to Opus for a birthday celebration because it was written up in 5280's best restaurants. What a disappointment. We were informed that they were out of the first bottle of wine we ordered (they had just sold the last bottle that day). We were then informed that the only bottle of our second choice was already open. Finally, on the third try, we selected something that they had. The service was fine and the food was of good quality but seriously lacking in imagination. For the cost, I'll go elsewhere. Pros: Easy to get into Cons: out of date wine list, food lacking in imagination more

gem in the rough 6/11/2007

I and my wife are regulars at opus-we have never recieved short of an excellent experience, although the wait between courses can drag on during a busy night. The menu is very inventive, and the nightly specials have never been repeated once during our many visits-the wine lis has many gems-the service is truly amazing for a restaurant in the suburbs-they even had signed a birthday card for her and had it waiting on the table! \r Compared to indifferent experiences at a number of downtown eateries, we always feel like we are coming home to opus. It is hard to image anyone getting bad service here. Pros: killer menu, great service more

Horrible Service - Next to none 5/22/2007

We entered the Opus for dinner and were asked if we had a reservation. We answered no. They looked in their computer and then sat us in the dining area. We were given a wine list and later served some awful potatoe based trash. We then wated for some 15 minutes for a waiter to come by and possibly take our beverage order and maybe give us a menu!!!! There were waiters all over the place apparently except for at our table. After some 20 minutes we left and will NEVER return. \r \r Survice was non-existant - downright rude. I will never ever return there and will be sure others are well informed of the extremely poor behavior of the people there. Not a good way to get new customers....\r Pros: Nice looking place Cons: Rude and arrogant - Totally non-existant service more

unique, delicious, enjoyable evening! 4/3/2007

Opus is the best! My dinner companions and I enjoyed everything about our evening there. The chef is inventive, and knows how to create great taste combinations with lovely presentations. We all had different entrees, apps and desserts and all were delicious. The service was excellent. As a advertising executive, I often take clients to dinner-this dinner at Opus was one of the best of many, many dinners-We will return for sure! Pros: delicious food, good portions; service friendly, prompt more

Still our favorite 2/18/2007

When friends first recommended Opus we were a little skeptical of a world class restaurant in Littleton. Folks, you can leave your doubts behind. This restaurant stands up to any in New York, San Francisco or Las Vegas. My wife even prefers Opus over our favorites in France. On any occasion we LOVE IT! Pros: The best in Colorado more

Losing its shine 1/21/2007

I have been a regular at Opus for many years, and the first 3-3 1/2 were great. The past year, however, has been a downward spiral. The food has become stale and old, repeating the same dishes season after season. The chef used to be an adventurer, a risktaker, but seems to have caved into the idea that a suburban restaurant is not allowed to be creative and interesting. The food quality has declined - consistently overcooked beef, dry fish and lobster, and ALWAYS asparagus and potatoes. The service has fallen off drastically as well. There are still some holdouts from the glory days, but the majority of the waiters are sloppy, lazy, and underinformed. Before I could ask Richard a question about the wine list and he knew the answer right away. I could ask Kevin about the menu and he knew the bizarre ingredients the chef used to bring in. David and Brian still do a great job, but this replacement crop just can't hold a candle to the old guard, or many waitstaffs around Denver for that matter. And a note to the chef - Your staff seems to do an awful lot of standing around, the floors and windows are dirty, and I can hear you shouting at people from the front of the dining room. I came for dinner, not a show by Pavarotti.\r The food is still good when compared to other restaurants in the area, but the service has fallen to comparison with Buca di Beppo and Ted's. I hope Opus is able to turn it back around, but I have dined there for the last time. The fall from grace has been too great for me to forgive. Pros: No worse than other restaurants in the area Cons: Service, not up to the same standards as before more

Redemption. 12/10/2006

We wrote a review back in 12/06 for Opus and did not think we would return. But since we had been given an Opus gift certificate for the holidays we decided to try them again. We made reservations for New Years Eve dinner and were very impressed with the service and our meals. The dinner was well timed and all well prepared. Very beautiful presentation and imaginative tastes and textures. The escargot starter was to die for! Oh my, I could have ordered two of them and called it a meal. My sea bass was amazing. My husband ordered the chops and thought they were great. Our server was attentive and very helpful when selecting our wine. The evening was a wonderful way to ring in the new year.\r \r Bravo Opus. Bravo! Pros: Wonderful artistic presentations. more

A Dinner to Remember 3/24/2005

First visit but not my last. Took my wife there for her birthday. Food was excellent, staff fast, courteous, fun. Dinner lasted 2 hours 20 minutes. Servings start out small and grow larger with each one. I'm a pretty big eater but could hardly finish my dessert. We were first to arrive at 5:00pm but there were several large parties that arrived within an hour. Sea Scallops appetizer was excellent. Both of us had the Opus Duet, filet of beef with lobster. It was cooked perfectly and every bite was out of this world. Wife had creme brulee (excellent), I had chocolate torte... very rich, but I enjoyed every bite. Pros: Service, Food Cons: Price, Time more

Culinary Opus. 12/15/2004

Inviting decor, oustanding service and creative cuisine is what you'll find at Opus these days. The escargot / blue cheese appetizer was flavor-packed, the butternut squash and shrimp bisque was velvety and sublime. The pesto swordfish special was well presented and very tasty. The creme brulee is one of the most creative and delicious I've tasted in quite some time. The wine list is interesting, but a bit pricey, and the menu will certainly put a dent in your wallet, but if you go for lunch, you should be able to push it through on your expense account. One of the best places you'll find in the Denver-metro area. Pros: Service, Creative Cuisine more

Bon Appetite 12/8/2004

Opus will be featured in the magazine's February issue and with good reason. The food is deliciously consistent, service is impeccible, staff knowledgeable. My personal congrats to the owners, the staff and it's patrons for making it a success. Pros: Atmoshpere, Service, Food more
