BEST Steak in town 2/25/2007

I absolutely LOVE Maestro's! I've been several times, latest being for my birthday, 02/17. Service is always great and very attentive. Petite Filet is tender, juicy and DELICIOUS! Maestro's mashed potato's are very tasty with bacon bits etc., Best appetizer is the scallop mmm mmm good. Pomegranite martini's are the best I've had. Yes, Maestro's is expensive, but well worth the price. I've referred Maestro's to several people, who do nothing but rave. Oh, yes, second floor seating is a must with live entertainment. Since this is a very popular restaurant, best to make reservations well in advance and specify 2nd floor seating. This is not the place for people on a budget... Pros: Food, Drinks, Live entertainment, Service more

Becoming a disappointing experience 2/15/2007

We've been to Mastro's two previous times. We recently went last Saturday night at 6:30pm (they didn't have any other times available). At 6:30pm, they claimed that the upstairs seating was "booked." I overheard a host stating that they had "important clients" coming in without reservations at 7:30pm and needed to clear the area. We were placed in a booth on the main level. The service was atrocious. We had to ask for water three times from three different people. They never brought us a bread basket even though everyone else around us received one. The four of us spent about $400 on dinner and couldn't get anyone to acknowledge us. I've had better service at lesser food quality restaurants. The food is great...the service has definitely gone downhill. Pros: Food is excellent Cons: Service has become non-existent more

A Dimming Star 1/27/2007

Let me begin this review by saying that this was arguably the best steak house in Los Angeles, if not the best west of Texas. That said, I have the distinct feeling that Mastro's may be satisfied to rest on their previously deserved reputation. What used to be the absolute best has turned into an overpriced average. If you have been, or read the previous reviews, the bone in filet is the signature cut at Mastro's and is a menu staple. Indeed, a filet is a staple at any steak house. Somehow, Mastor's ran out...on a Saturday night. Did I mention they were also out of lobster? Lobster mash? Nope. Also out. It used to be well worth the price. Now? more

WOW. WOW and.... WOW 12/12/2006

My god this place was awesome. The staff, the music, the atmosphere and most of all the food - great. We started off with the seafood towers which were just loaded with shrimp and lobster and oysters and then into the meal. That night I had one of the best steaks that I've ever tasted. And the Sinatra music was the icing on the cake. The place is pricey (lucky me this was a company thing) but worth every single cent. The people there are a major key in my review as everyone was nice, pleasant, helpful and attentive. If you need to do something special or just want to treat yourself , stop by and prepare yourself for a great experience. more

I have to say, this is my fav steakhouse. I've had majority of the items on the menu, and did not have anything I did not like. The steak is the best I've had. Great food and good service. Pros: Good food & great service Cons: Long wait for table more

Inconvenient Reservation System 12/6/2006

Food is great and service once you are at your table is great. However, making a reservation is painful and if you manage to get a reservation, you still have to wait for a table. Pros: Great food Cons: Horrible reservation system more

We've been to Mastro's just the 2 of us, with our parents, and with large groups. Each time, the steaks (we've had the ribeye and the filet) are prepared perfectly -- no fancy sauces, just seasoning and the meat's own perfect flavor. (And probably a ton of butter, too.) Absolutely mouthwatering and delicious. The side items are great too, especially the asparagus, mashed potatoes, and sugar snap peas, but the creamed corn tastes more like cream than corn -- they should try to copy Lawry's recipe and might do better. Caesar salad was just right -- crisp leaves and correct proportion of garlic, cheese, and anchovy paste. Service is consistently fantastic and friendly -- server will answer questions about the menu, offer recommendations, refill your wine / water in a timely manner, etc. We went last week for a pharmaceutical presentation and were quite a large group. The waitstaff were nothing short of professional, knowledgable, and courteous, and the food, as always, did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back. Pros: STEAK, STEAK, STEAK. Cons: It ain't cheap. But you pay for what you get. more
