Dropping off fast 9/10/2008

I have been going to Mastro's for years. The food was always good and the staff was friendly. Given that the prices have always been a bit high. Recently, Mastro's was purchased by the RARE Group. Masto's has taken a big step down. The new management at the restaurant is very corporate...very uptight. The quality of the steaks has dropped badly. Even worse, the clientele on the weekends look like a tour bus pulled up front and spilled. There are far better steak options in LA....BLT, STK or Wolfgang's. Pros: Active atmosphere Cons: Cheesy crowd, corporate, declining food quality, cramped more

Beverly Hills when its best or worst 8/12/2008

Well you certainly can not say the food is not well made in this place . They serve some great steaks here . Its old school Beverly Hills , its the place Robert Evans probably calls home away from home ( not confirmed...) . Plenty of wealthy men with their young(er) partners - its cocktail lounge with piano player , its Polo Lounge just bigger and with great steaks . Its nice - its good food - its HEAVY food - big steaks , big lobsters , mashed potatoes - its all very AMERICAN . Do not plan on going out after this meal - you would want to go to sleep . Its a great experience - maybe not my kind of place but you have to appreciate it . more

A little over priced and not very good 7/9/2008

It's good, don't get me wrong. But good lord! do you seriously need to charge $12 dollars for mashed potatoes? It was violating. We went for a bachelor party so it was a fairly large group. The service wasn't spectacular either. And I thought a thank you from management would have been nice since we did drop almost two large. The wheels just seemed to come off at some point in the night. I give it an average rating because I would probably have liked it much more on a slower night. Plus the 300 pound dude literally rubbing against the back of my chair from his, was a little unappetizing. Pros: valet Cons: inside more

Best Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Prostitutes and Cougars on the prowl - good entertainment 6/15/2008

Would definitely recommend the lobster mashed potatoes - they were nothing short of amazing. The steaks were goood NOT great. The service was impeccable - we were seated immediately, our server was polite and informative. I have to admit, I was a little shocked by my fellow diners - a cougar who nearly knocked me over on her trot to the ladies' room...let's just say, if you want a good laugh at someone else's bad facelift/nosejob or watch high priced prostitutes in action...this is the spot for you! Pros: Service Cons: Other diners were trashy more

Great ... if you want prostitutes and over-priced bland steaks 4/26/2008

This place is a fave hangout for prostitutes as well as the gold-necklaced men who love them, I kid you not. BHPD closes their eyes to this stuff but know it's going on. So if you're looking for that kind of thing, great but I wasn't ... as for the food, it's a hunk-of-meat place that doesn't cut the mustard. At best, pretty average steaks and filets. The bone-in filet which is like $50 and as such the waiters love to push down your throat is bland and a joke price-wise. If you want to cheat on your wife, go to this one, otherwise, by all means, stay away. By the way, don't know who's writing all these wonderful reviews but me smells something amiss. Pros: Great place to pick up prostitutes Cons: Bland steaks, exorbitant prices, chest hair and gold necklaces more

Can't Really Ask For More 4/24/2008

Mastro's is a first-class operation from top to bottom. Every single thing in that place...the steaks, the sides, the appetizers, the breadbaskets, the service...they are all meticulously crafted to perfection. Many restaurants will call you to confirm your reservation, but rarely does an establishment call you the next day to see how you enjoyed your meal. At Mastro's they do just that. I really don't want to elaborate any more than I have to because this review may up seeming a bit perverted to the average reader. So I'm just going to close with saying that this is one of the very few expensive restaurants that is worth every penny. Pros: Great Taste Cons: Less Filling more

an all time favorite 4/9/2008

mastro's BH, is still one of my all time favorite steak houses. I find they are most consistent with the quality of food and temperature of their steaks. although they have reason to be boastful, staff is always friendly and cordial. ambiance is great, but there's a different feel depending on which room/area you end up dining. for the most part, you can expect a warm steakhouse feel, lots of murmur on busy nights, with great live piano jazz. I recommend the bone-in rib eye, rare +...tender and flavorful! don't forget sides: lobster mashed, mac n cheese, creamed corn....if you have room, the warm butter cake is delicious!! more

Steaks not good as expected, but service was great 4/1/2008

I took my best friend here for his birthday. The big guy outside was so nice and friendly even as we left the place and were trying to take a picture next to the big chandelier he offered to take it of us and even insisted on taking one of us outside in front of the mastro?s sign, so ridiculously nice!! By that I know why this restaurant is so successful. Our waitress Molly was genuinely nice. I was expecting something brilliant for the price like 46ish for my 24 oz. porterhouse steak but it really wasn?t as good as I expected. The best steak honestly is at a place called Harris Ranch up north. Anyway my friend got the bone in filet and I thought his was more tender than mine. We also got the fried ravioli appetizer and it was very good. The chopped salad was good too it was basically chopped lettuce, roasted red bell peppers, parmesan & blue cheese, artichokes and etc I don?t even remember in a red wine vinaigrette it was pretty good too. We also got the garlic mashed potatoes which I really enjoyed it wasn?t too creamy or buttery it was kinda light and perfect. To top it off we got the apple tart which was delicious. It was like 2 big tarts made out of light and fluffy puff pastry with an apple center and a yummy fresh scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top of each one and it came with a huge plate of fresh whip cream. The price of each steak being 50 dollars is just ridiculous I mean it really is. Maybe if it had an incrdibly unique flavor and texture it would be fine but mine was pretty tough & salty and didn?t melt in my mouth as I expected it too. I had such high hopes but I mean considering the atmosphere and stuff its almost worth it to go on just a special occasion. There were like a couple older ladies with tons of plastic surgery swaying in front of the piano with some sugar daddies so that?s what they mean when they say people can dance there. Like I said the people there are nice at least even the piano guy said bye to us at the end. Pros: fantastic customer service Cons: Park at the meters so you don't have to pay the valet more
